Crummy attitude and bad service on two occasions so I'll not go back. Most recently... Had 2 keys cut, 2 copies of motorcycle keys. I wanted more copies but they had only two of this key blank. Okay with me. One of the new keys worked. The other would not go into the lock (neither ignition nor keyed gas cap). Took bad key back to store with my receipt expecting a refund unless they had recently gotten more of those blanks. He said all he could do was try to clean up the bad key. I was not optimistic and I said I did not want to have to make another trip down to store so was thinking refund since I had my receipt. His response was, "This is not Amazon" and continued cleaning up the key. I pondered that for a few seconds, then said his Amazon comment was a crappy response to my refund request as most businesses give refunds for faulty products when customer has a receipt. (my point being that I did not view my request as outrageous or asking a huge favor). He said they do not guarantee their work unless i bring the lock in so they can test it themselves. (although I did not like that answer, that would have been a better first response than the Amazon comment.) So I have to go bring my motorcycle down? If this was a house key , I have to take the lock off my door and take it in? My encounter a couple years ago with them was similar but I'll not go into that here. I went for let copies. We weren't sure of the blanks, so the tech made some keys and told me to try them first before I pay. They worked and I went back to pay. I like that they trusted me as a first time customer. read more

I can't say enough great things about the response time, communication and expertise from this team! Not only did Daylon respond quickly (right before closing, too) and share excellent communication with me into the next day regarding our broken lock, he was willing to look at emailed photos to decipher what kind of lock we were working with. We were able to book a diagnostic appointment a day later and when Greg showed up, not only was he knowledgeable about the more unique lock we had, he was able to reuse most of our parts, saving us money and time and repairing the lock on the same trip. He also educated us about the whole system (something the installers never did) and gave advice regarding a few other issues with the door. He was competent, kind and worked quickly to solve our problem. This company will be 'my' lock company from now on! read more

Was very disappointed with this company. We had to drive from Issaquah to Kirkland three times. One to order the key. Once the key came in it was broken. We returned again and it was it was fixed, but I thought $99 is a lot for a new key. It would have been nice if she had asked if we wanted a remote also. It was confusing since it was mentioned that the key had a chip in it. The gentleman at the counter was also unfriendly And I don't think we were thanked for the business. read more

I brought in two trunk key blanks, and two door and ignition key blanks for them to cut from the original set. These were new old stock key blanks from the 60's, that were $25 a set. The guy looked at them, and immediately said he would not guarantee them. I could tell he didn't even want to do them in the first place, but I figured a trusted business like this would not mess them up. The guy cut all 4 new keys as the trunk keys, and none as the ignition/door keys. I didn't realize this until I got to the vehicle, and because they were not guarantee, I could do nothing about the wasted original new old stock keys. So, SO disappointing, and a waste of money. My advice - check you Mr keys carefully, befor leaving the establishment. :( read more

I recently purchased a used car that came with only one key fob (electronic). I first went to Bona Fide's Issaquah store since it is next door to a place where I have lunch most weekdays. Hector told me their Kirkland location is where the fobs are done. I had been told by the car dealer and a car consultant I used that a new fob would run between $400.00 and $600.00 to make. I spoke to Shaun at the Kirkland location late on a Monday afternoon and gave him some information about the make and model of my car. He told me it would cost a little over $200.00 and would take 3 or 4 days to get it by a special order. I agreed to the fee and gave him my credit card information. I trusted Shaun and Bona Fide because I had done business with them before for my home. Instead of 3-4 days, Shaun called me the next day and said it was in. I went up Wednesday around 12:30 and by 1:30 I was on my way home with the new fob. I was extremely happy with the price and service. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars I give Bona Fide 10. I purchased a extra fob from bonafide lock and safe for my car at the cost of about $300 the first time I went to use the fob it did not work so I took it in to see if they could replace the battery. upon opening the fob it was apparent that the fob they sold me was defective. They took no responsibility, they told me I must have dropped it ( I had never dropped it or even ever used it) he said they would give me a discount on a refurbished one for approximately $290.00 But he wasn't going to take a loss. So basically he wants to make more money off me for a defective item he originally sold me. I would never recommend this company for any service. He was Rude and very poor customer service. Zero stars in my opinion. Trust me bad word of mouth goes a long way, they may want to re consider how they treat there coustomers. read more

Walked in to get a car key copied, but I wanted to have one without a remote built in to allow me to take it in the water (SCUBA diving). The employee explained to me the different options I had, and recommended a plain chip-less key to open just the door. It cost about $7 and now I don't have to leave my regular ignition key in my dive buddy's car. The entire thing took less than 5 minutes, so I'm 100% satisfied with both the key and the service. read more

I bought a car key with remote from Bonafide for my Ford Sedan--$180. I only used it as a spare for 6 months. One day as I turned the key in the ignition--the metal key started bending and the remote housing started coming apart. I took it into Bonafide and was told there is only a 30 day warranty and that there is nothing they could do to help me. The owner said she did not design the key, but would call the manufacture the next day--probably just to get rid of me. Of course I did not hear anything back. A company should stand behind their products for at least 6 months, or a year! Next time I'll go to a dealership--where they actually back their products and care about customer service. read more

Couple of years ago I had Bonafide Lock and Safe install several door locks and hardware for my new addition. The tech was professional, focused, efficient and there was no mess left behind. I needed a worn out ignition cylinder repaired and needed a new key cut and programmed for my Dodge truck. Shaun repaired the cylinder cut a test key that worked then cut and programmed the new key. It ended up saving me over $400.00 from what the dealer wanted to do it. Other locksmiths weren't interested in doing a complicated job. I was very impressed. read more

The worst experience I have ever had with a locksmith. I brought a trailer door lock that needed a new cylinder and key which I provided. When I took the lock back to our trailer and installed, the key wouldn't turn in either the locked or unlocked position. They key also was stuck in the cylinder and when I tried to remove, the entire cylinder popped out. When I returned the lock, already upset that I had to take it back, nothing was provided but excuses and justifications. Supposedly loose cylinders are normal, it was implied that this was my fault since the cylinder had "exploded" in trying to remove the key, and the lock had worked just fine in their shop.......When I originally brought this in, I asked the worker if he wanted both sides of the lock so he could test the whole unit together. He refused saying the fewer parts he had the better. The standard of workmanship here should have been to test the entire assembly before it left the shop. If it didn't work assembled in my door, it probably wouldn't have worked assembled in their store. A one star Yelp review and getting bad-mouthed to others for the rest of my life. So, tell me Bonafide, was that worth the $70 you refused to refund? read more

We had Bonafide come and replace a lock that just stopped working. We were quite lucky that someone happened to be home when this happened else we would have been all locked out of the house! Hector came promptly and efficiently replaced the faulty part with a great explanation as to what had happened and ensuring that the part he replaced would be fixable in the future. Great service. We just moved into a new house and wanted to change the locks. I went into their shop to pick out a new lock and Wes recommended rekeying it. I opted to have one of their locksmiths come to my house rather than bringing the lock in to rekey. Chris showed up promptly and checked things out. The lock was previously on upside-down and he flipped it over for us. He checked out the locking mechanism and door as well. All for a little over $100, which was very reasonable. They also have a nice little shop with lots of different safes both new and used. I'd use these guys again for sure. read more

I arrived at 5:15 PM. The lights were on but I couldn't see anyone inside the shop. I called the number on the door and someone answered and said they were in Issaquah. He very kindly offered to call the shop and see if someone was there and could open the door for me! What a gent! He called me back in several minutes and said Rudy would open the door for me. Several moments later Rudy came to the door. I showed him my busted mailbox lock and he let me in, taking the lock into the back to search for the right part. He emerged with a $10 part that wasn't quite right. He admitted it needed filing down and my cam needed to be used from my old lock. And then he said he would need to charge me for the part plus an extra fee for opening after hours. That fee was $50!!! Or someone could come out the next day for 69 bucks, plus whatever parts were, and some other fee that would put it over a hundred at which point I couldn't even process due to the $150/hr extortion fee he had just calmly layed out. Oh, and the 50 bucks was non-refundable even if I had them come the next day too. Bah Rudy. Reviews of this place were good! Guy on the phone was trying? Or maybe they were going to have a very nice lunch on my "late fee." Idk. Beware. read more

Shawn is incompetent and he doesn't know what he is doing. Great service and experienced, improved our entry lock during re-key and updated patio door handle to include a new lock, and replaced back door knob to make all barels match to 1 key - glad he could make it happen with stock on his truck.
