Buyers Beware: Faulty La Cantina Door and No Accountability from Builders Direct San Diego…read more We purchased several high-end doors for our new home in Santa Monica, CA, including a very expensive La Cantina collapsible sliding glass wall system from Builders Direct in San Diego. At the time of purchase, Builders Direct recommended an installer for the project, Randy Berger. Unfortunately, from the moment of installation, the La Cantina door has never functioned properly. It has never closed or sealed correctly, despite multiple attempts to address the issue. Soon after installation, we were broken into, and we strongly believe the faulty installation or manufacturing defect contributed to this incident. Builders Direct has refused to take responsibility, despite having referred the installer themselves. There is now serious concern that the La Cantina door may also have a manufacturing defect. As we've researched this further, we've come across numerous complaints from other homeowners who have experienced similar problems with La Cantina doors, with little to no support or accountability from the manufacturer. We want to be clear: we are reasonable, honest people who made a good faith purchase and trusted the professionals involved. But this experience has been extremely disappointing and stressful. We caution others to be very careful when purchasing La Cantina products and working with Builders Direct in San Diego. We are currently exploring legal options, including a potential class action. If you have had similar issues with La Cantina doors or Builders Direct, please reach out. Consumers deserve better.

Communication was always timely, there were never any surprises with price / billing, recommendations on products didn't seem biased in any direction, time from signing the contract to installation was reasonable, and the people who work there are just really nice. The measure and install/removal team, led by Tony, was professional and finished under their originally estimated timeline. Things were pretty clean when they left and they took every bit of packaging, old materials, and "stuff" with them. It's such a relief to have consistently good service and quality products.

I've purchased flooring from this place twice in the last two months, and I can say with confidence…read morethat you should avoid dealing with a guy named JASON at all costs. My first order was for three boxes of floors initially, which - come to find out from my floor installer upon opening - one box was damaged from their fork lift. My installer said it wasn't a big deal, just to take it back to Rayo and they would credit me. Mind you, I had just placed an order for TWENTY more boxes of the same flooring -- so clearly I was not out to scam them. If I could have used that box, we definitely would have. That seems to be pretty common sense, but oh man, you would have thought I was asking Jason to have them give me the Pacific Ocean for free. In a nutshell he completely freaked out on me asking to return the box. First he said "this is not damaaged!" Then that quickly turned out "I don't see why your installer can't just work around the damaged parts." Then from there it went to "Custom orders are final!!!!!!" WHIICH ONE IS IT?!?! Good grief! I explained the situation to him, and he even KNEW that I had just put in an order for twenty more boxes. He still acted like a complete and total jerk. Only when I ran out of the store in tears, did another associate (Mark) call me to let me know he would credit my other order for the 20 boxes to offset the cost of this damaged box. While I appreciate Mark for this gesture, I am disguted by how Jason acted. Definitely should never have this man in sales or any role that involves him interacting with other humans. I own three properties in San Diego -- and will never work with this place again. I'll make sure to spread the good word about Jason's level of service. WOW WOW WOW.

I purchased three slabs of marble for my kitchen, and after speaking with two independent fabricators, I learned that I would have to sign a release of liability for installation. Both fabricators explained that marble is extremely porous and prone to chipping and cracking, and they both advised that marble should never be used for a kitchen countertop. Anything acidic : lemon juice, vinegar, soda can dull and etch marble even when it has been sealed. Wine, citrus, tomato sauce, coffee, and oils can all leave stains or dark spots. If you don't use any of these in your kitchen, you might be safe; but if you do, they will leave a lasting impression. When I explained this to the owner and requested a full refund despite the slabs never being moved or fabricated, he refused. I even offered to pay $1,500 to be reasonable, but that was also declined. If that is the kind of business you want to deal with Petra Stone is the place for you.

There are many slab yards, but few with offerings from around the world of the first cut, finest quality stone. I have enjoyed working with Marcelo, Livia, Natalia, and Robert at Petra for many years. They have become partners and friends in my business, which is essential for my success and the happiness and satisfaction of my clients. Petra also offers a proprietary sealant called Azerocare for their natural stones, which makes them stain-resistant for many hours. This comforts clients who are reluctant to use natural stone due to potential marks and stains from everyday use. It is such a joy to have them in San Diego. I get excited every time we work together and make selections because there's always something new, and the finished product consistently exceeds my expectations.
