the buyers at buffalo exchange do not know and/or don't care about high-end labels. what does this mean to you? if you are a buyer and visit often enough, you can find some fairly amazing pieces for unbelievably low prices. over a period of about 4 months, i found a chanel poured glass necklace for $23 (yes it was authentic), a $1200+ issey miyake patchwork blazer for $15, $500 new with tags gaultier pants for $30. but you are much more likely to find scads of "trendy" urban outfitters, h&m, anthropologie, etc. crap that may be priced higher than work by designers of actual talent.... if you are a seller, you will probably be extremely disappointed and possibly insulted by what the buffalo exchange buyers will offer you (their reselling prices are really low, and they only give you 30% cash/50% credit...yes, that means they paid somebody a whopping $6.90 for the aforementioned chanel necklace). my advice would be to bring in your trendy h&m and american apparel that you don't care about, get the 50% store credit, and save your expensive items for ebay or a manhattan consignment store like ina. also, some of the buyers apparently do not know how to recognize fakes of high-end labels (i have seen many low quality asian counterfeits of LV, dior homme, margiela, etc. at the williamsburg buffalo exchange). so if you go in, beware of this fact (or use it to your advantage, wink-wink). read more

OH, this place. *cracks knuckles* long story short, I have been going there for years and never had a problem. However, I went there a few months ago and had the worst experience there. So here I am gathering my things, and I see a blonde girl following behind me. I mean every move I made this chick was up under me, so I figured she was an employee who thought I was going to steal. Why? I have no idea. So anyway I got fed up and turned around she asked if I need help with my things.....do I look like I need help with my things lady? I am just fine. But I gave her my stuff anyway to ease her nerves and kept browsing but she still followed behind me. Even when I went to the fitting room and came out she started following me again. By that time I was fed up but I went on line to purchase my items anyway. I don't plan to go back there again after the way I was treated. And quite frankly, this is def a Williamsburg thing as a whole because I went there not too long after and a group of drunk people yelled racial slurs at me. Idk where the heck these people came from (probably the middle of America on a farm) but they need to go back there. Because its 2012 and things like this should not be tolerated. read more

I really love buffalo exchange fashion and the things they offer but the reason I'm giving this place a 1 star rating is because it's hella fucking expensive for a thrift store. Like I found items there for $30 and $50 . Like it's called a thrift store for a reason so people can buy clothes for cheaper and not close to the same price as the original so such a rip off. And when I came in to sell my clothes which had great designer pieces and "one of a kind " pieces as so called they're looking for , they didn't take ANYTHING! I was so upset and startled! my first buffalo exchange experience was in southern cali, & i was floored. my friend & i went to two, & they were both amazing, & i didn't find the employees that insulting. boy was in for a treat upon visiting the williamsburg buffalo exchange. not only was the selection less than amazing (i did find some metallic american apparel leggings, so there was some redemption), the staff also apparently believed that my friends and i were hard of hearing. apparently trying on high heels without socks is a disgrace, but when i took off my hat to reveal a head of messy hair, one clerk "ew"ed me. this was particularly hilarious, because i was looking in a mirror at the time, so i made eye contact with her immediately. so. to those of you who don't exactly look put together, i say stay away from the williamsburg buffalo exchange, & go to that pizza shop adjacent to the l, cos the guys in there loved us :D edited feb: we return the next week, & were again insulted, & this time complained to the manager who said, in a patronizing, near mock-apologetic voice that she was "sorry" that we were insulted, but that there was "nothing that she could do". so we told her we'd never shop there again. later, we remarked that we should have defecated in the changing rooms. too bad we didn't. read more

I personally feel like I get a different experience every time I walk in here. One day the employees will be friendly and help you out, the next they'll ignore you. Same goes with the merchandise, there are good days and bad days. Did manage to find a few good items on certain occasions. ($185 jeans bought for $10, ect.) I came here with a bag full of clothes. The cute stoned cashier took only two items, easily worth hundreds of dollars, and gave me the choice of $21 store credit or $12 cash. After browsing their ridiculous selection, I opted for the cash. A different, clownish stoned cashier handed me a soggy ten and two rumpled singles. I can't believe anyone shops at this pathetic vintage store - there are greater places to go if you look further than Bedford/Driggs. I don't know what this store is looking for when it comes to selling. You would think that they'd want lightly used, trendy, name brand, clean clothes. Instead, they don't. IDK want they want! I came here with at least 10 items, only 2 were chosen. An ugly leopard skirt from Forever 21 and a blue dress from Topshop. I had brought a couple of things (such as cheap, no name jeans) that I figured wouldn't sell, but I DEFINITELY expected my moto jacket (again, from f21 but its still cute and trendy) and my 2 pairs of high waisted Ralph Lauren jeans to sell. I don't understand why neither BE or Crossroads wanted them. It seems as though they are more interested in buying ancient, damaged, and just plain ol' UGLY designer clothes rather than clothes that are actually trendy and will sell! This is the most amazing vintage store I've shopped at. The staff are so friendly, helpful, & down to earth. They make me feel comfortable when I go in to shop or have any questions. The overall layout of the store is very organized & put together. The clothes are always up to date with the season & there's many different styles to chose from. Every time I go there's different clothes, shoes, bags, etc. Which makes it exciting for me from the moment I walk in. The dressing rooms are very comfortable and clean & you have a mirror in the room. You can take all the time you like & there's no staff member waiting for you in front of the dressing room. Which I love because I hate to feel uncomfortable or like I'm being rushed. I've always went in will intentions of purchasing one or maybe two items & have always left with more than 5 because the prices are too amazing to pass up & I feel like everything is so cute. Lol. By the way they don't have plastic bags to put your purchases in so it's best if you come with your own bag or you can always purchase a cute Buffalo Exchange bag from them for only $2. I purchased one & I use it all the time. I love this place & have told all my friends about it. My mom even came shopping with me for the first time today & she loved it. Although this place is much smaller than Beacon's Closet, I like it more. All the clothes are very clean and hung up in an organized manner. It's easy to go in without much time and flip through everything quickly. I only wish they had chairs in the changing rooms! read more

Holy Hipster...I just had a baby and wanted to try and get a few $ for the designer clothes that I had that I will no longer be wearing anymore. I drove out from Long Island on a Monday afternoon and apparently no one works because the store was packed. I had a full trash bag of clothes and got paid for less then half of them. Made a big $27! Thanks for that it just paid my gas but I made more then if I just had a yard sale. Funny thing was there was a big sign that said no donations and the people before me just got there clothes rejected and left but I was asked to donate my stuff! Hell NO! Pay me! Please!! Loved it! Staff is super friendly and the clothes were trendy. Like any thrift shop, at a glance its not gonna be like your favorite store. You have to look! I got a Blu Pepper green tank with good buttons and a pair of light wash jeans. Again, this thrift store is not for everyone. Most of their clothes are youthful and some can be on the extreme hipster side. Good for high school kids, college kids and up. My mom was able to find a nice leather blue clutch by kooba. Finally had the chance to come by here. Came here with a friend, it was a bit hard to find at first and I walked into 2 stores that were the wrong ones. Once I finally found the place, it was quite crowded. Customers were moving in and out. The line was kind of long for people who were selling things, but it wasn't as hectic compared to Beacon's Closet. Also the way they bought items or traded is much better, they did it right when you were there which I thought was beneficial to the seller. The staff were already dressed up for Halloween. Unfortunately I didn't find anything, but my friend found a cute floral top that was $14.50. The staff were extremely friendly. The place isn't as messy as Beacon's. Clothes are easier to find. They group it according to what the apparel is, for example, all dresses go on one rack, all shirts go on another, tees, and so on and so forth. Would definitely come back here, hopefully I'll find something next time.. read more

This store is alright. Upon entering there was a long line up the stairs of people selling clothes to the store. I've read in other reviews that this is a good place to sell your clothes because they give you a decent price. I guess that rings true judging by the line. They had a nice selection of mens shoes. I found a pair of barely used size 8 Doc Martens. It's a pair I had been thinking about buying and here it was for only $43. Sadly though, trying it on confirmed my suspicion that these shoes are just too stiff and uncomfortable even after being worn in. The store has a nice variety of womens jeans up to size 14, and lots of shirts and shoes. Again, another thrift/vintage store that doesn't have anything for plus size. The mens section is tiny compared to the womens but they do have nice items. They also had some costumes which I thought was a nice addition. The clothing and shoes were all in lightly-used condition. I didn't find anything that was smelly, or had stains or holes. The store is clean, bright and the air is not stale. It was bustling with shoppers and sellers and it had some good but loud music. read more

There was a time when this (and Buffalo Exchange's many other locations around the country) were my favorite stores ever. I can't tell you how many cute dresses and sweet tees I've gotten over the years. And when I started my first real job, a lot of my boring office wear came from Buffalo Exchange, too. Therein lies the problem: as years go by, boring office wear has come to dominate Buffalo Exchange's clothing racks. I don't know if this is a NYC-specific problem or if it's a nationwide epidemic, but all the exciting clothes are going ELSEWHERE. Beacon's Closet, is it you?! Consignment stores, are you to blame? Most of what I end up "scoring" from Buffalo now is a second-hand knock-off top from H&M, which is really too bad: what continues keeps Buffalo a cut above its competition is its keen sense of organization. Clothes are grouped by category and size--unlike Beacon, where clothes are grouped by...color (wtf). But what's the point of finding the exact segment of the rack to search when the pickings are so slim? read more

I went to the Buffalo Exchange in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I found it to be a nice change of environment from my usual F21 addiction. However, very similar to Forever this place happens to be a little crazy looking in just about every location. You could potentially come out with some really good finds but you have to know your personal style in advance and more importantly you really, really, REALLY have to dig. This staff is okay, relatively friendly and certainly more helpful than the sales associates that you may run into at the more commercial retail outlets. This location in particular carried some nice apparel selections, but let's be serious. Paying ten, fifteen, and in some cases twenty dollars is a bit steep for secondhand threads. But I won't because how many stores is there really that sell gently used top designer bags, clothes, and shoes? There were a lot of Ralph Lauren items which I found to my liking. This place is certainly the Barney's of thrift stores. It was a more upscale than any other thrift store that I have ever seen. read more

Had a few great experiences buying here. Once bought shoes but ended up getting two rights. Was able to get credit even the shoes were still in London. Unlike Beacon's Closet, staff was busy being too cool to answer questions and help find things. I almost never buy new clothes and am glad to have one of these stores in my neighborhood. Took a small bag of items here - one of the items was a pair of black patent leather Ralph Lauren Collection high-heeled ankle boots that had been worn only a few times. After the 18 year old "fashion savvy" buyer deliberated for a few minutes because he was nervous that these may not be in style (ankle boots aren't in style right now? Someone should alert Net-A-Porter, they're really off-trend right now...) He came back and said they could maybe sell them for $28. (should have taken them straight to a consignment shop on the UES). He rejected a jacket that had a snag - ok fine. I shopped for a few dresses and went in to the fitting room only to find every item I was trying on either had a tear or a snag. Looked through their shoe selection - choices were destroyed,chunky-heeled, cheap, or fake leather - nothing of quality. Obviously, I should have taken the bag I had set aside for the Salvation Army here and kept my designer items for consignment. *****Oh, and by the way - The girl that let me into the fitting room was in front of me in line at Beacons Closet two days earlier cashing in her drop off for cash. They are friendly, but their eyes say different. You get the feeling that they buy your clothes based on something arbitrary that's actually related to you and not what you are selling. I've heard tales of people going on different days to buyers and they take what the previous person wouldn't. Plus, the selection is gritty. read more

Worst place to sell. People are nice, but it doesn't make up for the true rip off that they are. I've been there twice to sell really good condition name brand items and each time they want to give you the practically nothing for it. After the clerk (cause that's all they are to me) checked my items - front and back, top to bottom - to see if anything was wrong with them I would have received what I paid in tax for a rather expensive item. No thank you ... ever again. I had to post something for those of us who know and have always sold items and bought at thrifty places. If they're willing to sell your grandma's moo moos as the hot ticket item, then there's something wrong. I refuse to leave anything in donation for them.
