I went to Williamsburg to go to Beacon's Closet, but stopped in Buffalo Exchange on the way and I must say that it beats Beacon's by a long shot. I brought in a bag of clothes and they took my Tripp corset and a dress I've probably worn once. The lady that bought them (I think her name was Regan) was super friendly and even complimented my clothes. I found a dress that was originally $24 for $8.50, so the deals are pretty good. Not trying to knock Beacon's or anything, considering the customer service was nowhere near the horror stories I had heard before. I walked in here on a Thursday evening, initially coming to sell, but there was a line that was almost to the door. In retrospect, it probably wasn't really that long of a wait, but at that moment I was all, "Eh, screw it" and decided to do a quick browse instead. Since I really wasn't looking to buy anything (at first), I did a cursory look at the racks which means I can't give good commentary on the selection of designers. But I must say that 10 minutes and $18.50 later I was the owner of this really cute D&G top. Score! (I guess you could say I move fast on a first date?) Staff was really nice and the store was buzzing with a good amount of customers for a Thursday night. This place is much better than beacon's closet when you want to sell. The wait time is shorter in comparison to beacon's AND buffalo exchange's staff actually talks to you. I've sold a fair amount and I'm not complaining. It's either a miss or a hit with a staff that is feeling generous that day in buying your clothes. Takeaway: 1. They won't take any forever21 unless it's brand new and still have a tag AND it's in style. 2. The only thrift stores that buys NEW WITH TAG bathing suits. (Other thrift stores I've visited won't accept it even if it's new). Like I said, it's either a hit or miss when selling. Every time I go back to the city (from Buffalo where I go to school), I always make it an event to go to Williamsburg for lunch and Buffalo Exchange. ::heavenly music:: I love this place. When I have cash, I visit BE. End of story. They have a variety of stuff to look through. The prices are also decent. The girls that look through the clothes have really good taste, too. I used to get all my skinny jeans from here, in my size 2-4, too. YAY. That's unheard in other thrift stores. If you're looking for unique tops or random pieces, I would check here. Although this store is not as huge as Beacon's closet, these guys do a great job of picking out good items to sell. I haven't shopped here much, but I've seen other people pick out some super cute things. I've sold some clothes here and although they are picky, they do give pretty decent money for your clothes. I think you get the most bang for your buck with store credit, though. Since this store is located in Wiliamsburg, one would assume that all the fashion conscious hipsters here would be relinquishing some really cute stuff so I definitely think this place is worth a visit. read more

Now that I've been here a few more times, I like this location more. They have a wide variety of shoes, belts, and even HATS. The staff is friendly enough and I don't have to wait for a fitting room, even when it's crowded, which is ALWAYS. The prices are definitely reasonable and now that it's not FREEZING outside, they definitely have a lot more interesting and wearable pieces. Yay for dresses! The racks in the store are squeezed a little close together, but nothing I can't handle -- it allows them to get more clothes into the store and give me more things to browse. The staff was very friendly. I brought to sell over 50 things and they only took three. They have a list of brands that they choose to sell so I only brought those brands some being brand new with tags. They took two pairs of used jeans and one T-shirt. I would not venture all the way into Brooklyn to sell my clothing to them again. To me it was a total waste of time. While they were looking through my clothes I looked around the store. I didn't see many of the brands that they said they choose to sell. I think that most of the stuff looked dated and overpriced. Compact to say the least, but organized with a great number of cute digs in spite of everything crammed into this small space. Two thumbs up for them letting me put on hold a pair of boots (very nice, sturdy, barely worn purplish grey tall leather boots for only $30). Very cheap but I really need to consider how often I'm going to wear something purplish-grey, besides the fact that they weren't on my shopping list, but I digress Their items are pretty reasonable in comparison to many of the other secondhand shops in the area. They're clearly a contemporary, gently used consignment shop, not $$$ vintage-boutique, neither is it a Good Will where sifting through Christmas-tree sweaters and one-armed coats for a find is the law of the land. I loved this place when I lived in Philly and I love this one, just don't shop at 5pm on a Wednesday it was PACKED to the gills, and I have this nightmare that I'll put down my jacket or take off my shoes to try something on and they'll be gone because someone thought they were for sale. read more

Calvin Klein? Marc Jacobs? Express? French Connection? BCBG? Yes, yes, yes, and absolutely yes. This store is great if you're looking for cheap name brand clothing. I have saved so much money buying from Buffalo Exchange and the things I buy are in style, cute, and totally worth it. The only downsides are the limited space in the store itself (difficult to move around when there are lots of people) and you often have to really dig to find something good. I have sold here some things they took some they did not but it doesn't matter to me. They are very selective of the stuff! Don't get offended! The store is pretty small but you will find some good stuff. PLACE ORGANIZES BY SIZE!!! (*cough* Beacons) I have not brought that much here.. The shoes don't cater to big foots... I cannot praise this Buffalo Exchange enough! I shop here constantly because i dont know about you but im a bit cheap..ok im kind of really cheap! haha. I have found SOOO many unique pieces for amazing prices! While some of the stuff is over priced considering it is used, you can really find some great pieces if you look and i feel great when i can browse around for a while and leave with some great finds! There's times when I have found nothing but i always come back. The staff is super friendly and im not the type to chit chat back so its awesome when they dont take my response ( just a smile) personal! It's a small store but very organized. I've seen very few clothes with dirt stains and such but i wouldnt mind it because either way you would wash it before wearing it right? This place is a haven for the most amazing treasures. The magic starts the s econd you walk in . You are greeting by employees who actually looks as happy as a customer spotting a deal so good it feels like shoplifting. Shop lifting because it's truly an uplifting exprience. The bargins are insane. Brand new Linda Farrow glasses new with a case for $25. Items might be second hand but they look brand new. It's a must stop place and we'll worth the effort or train ride. If you want to start of your day with a bad experience just come to Buffalo exchange Williamsburg. The staff has been trained to forcibly say hello but you can tell that the staff could care less about you or the clothes you bring. It was my first time taking clothes here and I've never sold anything at a thrift store. My daughter loves buying at thrift stores and suggested I bring some of my clothes that no longer fit me. I literally had clothes with tags on because I gained some pounds during the pandemic.. the staff quickly went through my clothes and told me that the clothes I brought in was out of style. Most of the clothes I brought in were from brands like Guess or Bebe.. then I asked to give me suggestions of what they are looking for and she replied "like high waisted pants" I literally had 2 high waisted jeans and they said no to practically everything I had.. meanwhile right next to me was another lady with clothes she expressed she made herself and they were pricing it at $14 to $17 each.. On a rare trip to Williamsburg, my friend and I came across Buffalo Exchange amidst a pretty dead stretch of Driggs. I'm a sucker for vintage and hard-to-find clothing, so I checked it out. The selection was pretty good--everything from some '80s DVF to a lot of H&M. The clothes were all in very good to brand new with tag conditions (haha, yeah, I sound like my eBay ads now). There were some cute things, but I was a little surprised at how expensive the prices were. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a pricey place. But I found a H&M shirt that I liked that had the original tag on it--and it was marked down from $19.50 to $15--not really that much of a savings for a shirt at least a year old. The employees were super nice--though it could be because it was really dead in there, and they might have just been happy for the company. The changing rooms are really nice, though. I really, really like the fact that they organize by size. I'm a XS, sometimes S, so it's a big pain to have to sift through and see all of the cute stuff that are too big for me. Dig at Buffalo Exchange and you will find at least 1 item that you would be ringing up at the register, I usually happen to come out clutching the goodies I patiently sifted through (they have a eco-friendly system that saves garbage bags and donates 10 cents to a great cause). I scored a Marc by MJ bag for $17, a $798 Donna Karen new with tags dress for $60 and they have a nice spot for consignment bags. I did have to take out a star because when I sold them my clothes which all cost me a pretty penny, the check they wrote out to me was totally not worth it. I took a pretty big hit but wanted my clothes to be put in good use since they were just in the back of my closet. I must say though, on my last visit...it is a total hipster place and you don't find as much as I used to when it first opened up. But still a joy to go to every now and then. read more

I've always been a big Beacon's Closet fan and never gave Buffalo Exchange the credit they deserved, but now I'm changing things up. I've recently gone to Buffalo Exchange and had a great experience. I bought some nice Dingo boots in great condition for around twenty bucks, a headband for 6, and some barely used high-top Vans for my boyfriend for around 18. Everything there is in really good condition and organized. Beacon's may seem like it's organized because of the color coding, but in reality it is so difficult to find things there unless you are in the mood to really search... it gets very tiring. Buffalo Exchange has appropriate prices and just enough stuff to keep you occupied. I find something almost every time I go there. Plus they play good music and have a pretty friendly staff. read more

Accompanied my daughter with a treasure trove of FAF sundries and mid fashion gently worn apparel...original value $2000 plus...store credit$74...huh??? This store is definitely more useful than other places such as Beacon's Closet. The color coding at Beacon's has been very confusing and I have heard a lot of people leaving there saying they had no clue why they would do that. The Brooklyn spot is a great place to shop if you live in the BK area and don't feel like trekking to the EV location that just opened up. The weekends are always busy, so it's best to sell maybe on a weekday if you get a chance since they get new stuff in all the time, that's the point of these places people. I've found a lot of great things for my friends for gifts and even for myself a lot of times, and why the hell not! Grab a gift card! The staff is really warm and friendly here, most definitely. They are always laughing and making small talk with you at the buy counter and whenever you are combing through the racks, that is what matters, making you all feel welcome. Ask them for help and I'm sure they can help you pick out stuff, the staff seems diverse enough! Beacon's is pretty bad with customer service, more than anyone, sadly with the huge staff they got there. Poor guys. For the first Buffalo location in BK, I'm liking it! read more

I like Buffalo Exchange, but I also know it could be awesome or lame at any given moment. It all comes down to what people have to offer, and who the person picking through the bags of stuff thinks of it. If a buyer passes on your clothes, don't be discouraged, chances are if you go back in a few weeks a different buyer will stick a price tag on it. My best find was a pair of Marc Jacobs pants for $5. Damn. However, there is definitely an abundance of Forever 21, H&M stuff to sort through, which is fine and all, but not when you're spending $12 for something that would be $15 brand new. My best advice is if you're selling, don't take it personally if you make $15 from three bags of clothes. read more

When my friend told me he wanted to go Thrifting when he came for a visit, I searched for the stores that had menswear. This was recommended and delivered. Though it is mostly clothing for women, it did have a nice selection of mens items in good condition. Next to it are 2 other shops equally good. Brooklyn hit the nail on the head with having three so close as there are very little menswear stores there. It is the first stop on the L train from Manhattan for those of you worried about leaving the city. The ride is over before you can get off that app on your iPhone. Definitely do it! read more

I get all my clothes from this store now, I always find tons of stuff to try on. I feel like in addition to designer names, they have a lot of Urban Outfitters type clothing, or at least I get drawn to the same brands that they carry. They have really nice, unique stuff for cheap-usually between $10-$30. If I had a friend, and they were visiting me in New York I would take them here to go shopping. Never a long wait for the dressing room, someone has even asked me a few times if they can start a room so I didn't have to carry all those clothes around. ALSO, it's not too big or crowded or over-packed with clothes on the racks so you have to use muscles to pick through clothes, I don't get overwhelmed. Had the weirdest experience here today. I should add I never shop here because the clothes are worn and not very appealing. I brought in brand new unworn, unused items and they were rejected. Meanwhile a girl in front of me sold a pair of torn, dirty chucks. I've always been a huge fan of Buffalo Exchange ever since stumbling upon their Chelsea location, but their Williamsburg location doesn't live up to its hype. First of all their selection consists of poorly displayed Urban Outfitters brands and the store is almost always crowded and messy. I've made several attempts to shop in this location thinking maybe if I came a different day I might find something I liked, but so far nothing. As far as selling goes, their sales buyers are inexperienced and poorly trained. The girl who was doing my buy breezed right through my clothes and passed on pretty much everything except two pieces, which I thought was weird considering everything I had was in season and popular styles and brands, including a cute ASOS skater skirt and Jeffrey Campbell shoes that were in nearly perfect condition. Not only that but she was chatting with her coworker the entire time and not even acknowledging me at all. Afterward I had taken my items to Crossroads Trading Co. in Williamsburg and they accepted everything.. Not to mention Crossroads has a much better selection, their store is bigger and more comfortable to shop in, and they're not nearly as picky when it comes to buying. Bottom line, if you're interested in shopping in an incredibly crammed space with tacky Urban Outfitters style clothes, then BE is your store. But if you're like me and love your designer names without the ridiculous prices and good customer service, then make the trip to Crossroads instead of Buffalo. read more

I've been here several times. It's the place I go to after college break for all my clothing needs. Once I walk in the store I'm greeted by a large variety of clothes, from dress shirts, to jeans, and even the occasional full body leather onesie! The staff there is very hip and friendly. I'm particularly fond of the young African American guy who always tries his bestest to help me find the sweaters I yearn for, and the cool blonde at check out! The staff always knows what's best for the customer and how to find what suits you. Everything in the store is great, and everytime I go I always find GEMS. Like a pair of leather Y-3 shoes, and the brown Polo sweater I bought yesterday. If you're willing to look in the store, you WILL find what you seek, believe me. Only downside to the store (if you can call it that), are the lines, which can get quite long sometimes. Aside from that, I give it a 5 whole stars. Passing by today! read more

Been here over 6 occasions to liquidate my clothes, every time was amicable and easy. Every visit I have always been able to take away at least $250 in cash, I would hope that I am considered a trusted contributor to this store. Tonight will be my last and final visit to this place. Brought in my custom "mi adidas" stan smith with off white soles and pony hair back tabs, brand new with tags, manager named Sahara insisted the shoes being fake, I even showed her my original adidas.com web order receipt and was continued to be verbally insulted to no end (soles have yellowed - it is called off white sole / pony hair is falling off - nope nothing was falling off, brand new with tags / receipt is your own so I can't verify that - yes it's my receipt I bought the shoes myself!). They ended up also did not accept even one piece of clothing I brought in, all pieces almost new, 100% cashmere sweaters, silk dresses, leather jackets all purchased from Bloomingdales, Saks etc. I'm actually not bothered by it as this is their complete loss. Never again will I ever patronize this location ever again. Taking my stash over to Beacon's closet. Bye feliciaaaaaa!!! read more
