Swindled - After being asked to up scale and saying no, the guy at the counter kept asking and lowering the price a little. This happened about 3 or 4 times where I said no and he would come with a different offer. My original quoted price was 400 bucks. When I returned the care, I owed over 800 do to the upgrade. I thought he said the extra 400 was the new total price. it was the added cost of the upgrade. I am an idiot for letting him do that to me. Never had that with other rental places. Stay away from Budget and Avis. This was at the Phx Airport. read more

I reserved a car online for 550. When I got there they said I had to take an electric car or pay an extra 250. I'm in from out of town and my housing doesn't have a charge station for an electric car. I'll never use budget to rent again. read more

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! The car broke down in the Arizona desert. Roadside assistance is a joke. They stranded us at night in the Arizona desert, sending an Uber voucher which we could not use (Uber would not leave the city 30 miles away). Thankfully our tow truck took us to Yuma. Budget told us a replacement car would be available...untrue! They offered to send a car from Columbus, Ohio!! Check your geography folks. Bad Check-In Experience I recently rented a car at Phoeniz/Sky Harbor Airport through Budget using my Costco Travel and Budget's RapidRez memberships. The check-in process was extremely disappointing. Despite having a confirmed reservation and all details pre-approved, I waited far too long due to gross understaffing during Thanksgiving! The process was poorly organized, using slow outdated computer systems that kept rejecting valid credit card information. It was clear the counter employees were doing their best, but they were overwhelmed. The system kept freezing or failing to recognize reservations tied to Costco memberships, which led to confusion and unnecessary delays for everyone in line. This was supposed to be expedited Budget/Costco check-in using their RapidRez program as a time-saver and is promoted as such. However, my experience was the exact opposite! The process should be much smoother for confirmed members who booked in advance. Budget/Costco really needs to address staffing shortages and upgrade its technology so that loyal customers don't face such an inefficient check-in experience. read more

Chalk another car rental company that will never see another penny from me. I needed a vehicle because my truck was in the shop, so I called Budget. After the Dollar Rental fiasco that I had during the pandemic, Dollar, Thrifty and Hertz (all owned by the same company) are off the table, so I went with Budget. We've had good results with Budget several times since, but this time I made a mistake, and it cost me. The mistake I made was to "pre-pay" for the vehicle, which "saved" me $20. About two hours later, I got a call from my mechanic, who had had a cancellation of his own, and as it turns out, he was going to be able to get me done today. Great, I thought to myself - I'll just cancel this reservation I made two hours ago - and I still have two hours before I pick it up! Surely they won't charge me more money than the reservation itself as a "cancellation fee," right? Yeah no. The car reservation for two days was going to cost me $142. The cancellation fee was $150 (!). Because this is PATENTLY STUPID, I immediately went to their website to double-check. The website says the cancellation fee is $50. So I called them. I was politely informed by three different people that $150 was for "same day" cancellations - even though I made the reservation the same day and nowhere on their website does it say any such thing - no, I am told it's buried in the fine print, which of course, we all read thoroughly. They wouldn't even let me "un-cancel" the reservation. Hell, I'd drive the car around for two days for spite rather than just cough up $150 for nothing. Surely they'd have some flexibility, when I told them that not charging me more money to CANCEL a reservation than the RESERVATION ITSELF COST would mean that I most certainly would never do business with them again? Usually when I pull this one out, they will at least try and do *something* for me. Maybe get it down to $50 in a gesture of goodwill? HA HA no. Take a long walk off a short pier, genius - we don't need any more of your money! Good thing, too - because they won't be getting any more of it, I can assure you. I vote with my dollars, so now Budget is off the table. How long do you suppose it will be until I manage to strike them all off? Stay tuned I guess! read more

Use Great caution renting from Budget. We've twice had them mislead us about cost. The latest incident was... we rented a car through Costco. Cost was abt $550. When we went to Budget to pay for car, they added on close to $200 of fees, taxes and extra time. Get this, the extra costs were because we picked up the car 'an hour' earlier! Representative NEVER MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS REASON FOR EXTRA COSTS. ALL HE SAID WAS 'TAXES'. We protested charge to Costco. They investigated but said that Budget refused to refund the charges. Our first encounter with Budget was in Hawaii. The rental car tire had a leak in one of the tires. we called Budget and they refused to come out to change car. We had to drive there. Well how does one do that on a flat tire? So we asked for repair. Budget set out repair person. This cost $165 dollars. No mention that we could have used our Triple A membership. I am amazed that no one has investigated these clearly shady actions by the company. DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET! THE MONEY YOU THINK YOU SAVE IS DECEPTIVE! read more

This is a Review for https://www.budget.com. I was a victim of a Bait & switch. I needed to rent a vehicle that could hold 7 people. I picked a cadillac escalade and used Budgets "PayNow" and saved a few bucks. I did everything online, reserved the car and paid. My email confirmation said I rented a Jeep Wrangler.- I NEVER even looked at that vehicle. WTF. Long story short after calling Customer service 1 min after confirmation, they said I had to pay $50 to cancel the reservation or $922 to upgrade to a cadillac escalade. Budget is a TERRIBLE rental car company! Do not come here if you are looking for a car to rent. These guys let my sister drive off with less knowledge to cars without inspecting the car if it needed major repairs. The car that she rented was a charcoal grey nissan sentra with bald tires to the front and out of aligned steering wheel. The tires were on life support and for the price she was charged was absolutely unfair. You are better off renting from Thrifty or Hertz where they have quality cars unlike these trash cars they have. read more

If you forgot something in the car, regardless of how valuable it is, you can kiss it goodbye. I forgot an expensive pair of glasses in the car in the morning and didn't realize it until I was in the air. I called 6 or 7 numbers with the hope of getting someone in the facility to grab the glasses from the car before they rented it again so I can have family pick them up. I was on hold for many hours, was told to file an online claim and wait 30 days. I was provided no help whatsoever. After 3 hours of endless attempts, I had no other choice but to give up. Apparently the sky harbor facility has no phones and is ran by thoughtless robots without a care in the world for customer service. STAY AWAY. read more

So I had initially booked a car with Enterprise and had a terrible experience and ended up declining Enterprise vehicle and booked through Budget. What a difference. Worked with James who was professional, kind, entertaining. The whole process was seamless, got a vehicle as ordered, return was easy. Budget has my business. Sorry Enterprise, you lost me as a customer. I hope to work with James again on future rentals. read more
