    Called ahead to customer service to see if I could rent with just a debit card (no credit card) prior to making the booking. Was told several times it would be fine so long as I brought a passport of proof of address. Made the booking, paid for it, and went to pick it up only to be told that I couldn't pick it up without a credit card. Then the people at the counter told me they'd cancel the booking for me and refund me within 1-2 business days since I wouldn't be allowed to pick up the car. I never received a refund, apparently because they never cancelled it! Now I'm being charged almost $300 for a rental I never even laid eyes on. Called in today to ask for my refund again and was told that no managers were available to approve it, and to try again on Monday. Amazing customer service 10/10. Hope to one day see that $300 you guys swindled from me again!

    AVOID SIXT LIKE THE PLAGUE. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR DAMAGE YOU DID NOT CAUSE. My experience started out quite positive, the rental pickup process was fast and easy, and the car was great. The return process was equally quick and easy, and after inspection, I was told everything was good and was sent the final invoice. Three days later, Sixt sent me a claim of damages for a tiny clear coat scratch on the edge of the door. I did not cause this scratch and never saw it while the vehicle was in my possession. Also, the scratch was so minor that it could be cleaned up with a microfiber cloth and polishing compound, by hand, as part of the wash. I know this because I did exactly this all the time as a former auto body shop employee. Sixt is trying to claim this "damage" will cost $490 to repair. This is conveniently $10 under most insurance deductibles. I suspect they are trying to milk their customers for as much as they can while avoiding insurance being involved, because anyone with any experience in the field will recognize the absurdity of their claims. After leaving a one star review on Google, I received a comment from Theresa, the branch manager, telling me to forward my case information to service@sixt.com. I did this, and two weeks later, I have received no response, even after follow up emails. Meanwhile, the claims management department is not budging, and has addressed none of my requests for clarification on how they arrived at their number and what "repairs" it would pay for, as their claim cited no actual estimate for repairs, no billable parts or labor, only a number for the damage, a document fee, and a "depreciation fee." I suspect this practice of damage fraud is baked into their business practices. It seems like an awfully cheap way to ensure they never have repeat customers. This company is a scam factory hiding behind flashy marketing and nice cars. STAY AWAY

    Dashboard warning to replace key fob battery

    Rented a car to Sedona. It was not properly maintained. Despite being in a dusty climate windshield wiper fluid was empty. Drove 2 hrs to Sedona where key fob battery warning light went on. I had concerns about being stranded and took several hours out of my trip to contact algorithmic customer service. They had no options other than for me to replace battery. Didn't offer to send one out. Said they wound send video on how to do it. Never did. Spent time calling back. Finally got the email (after YouTube it myself). Then finding Ace hardware for the battery. While it was not expensive, it took time away from the vacation. I was told to contact customer service for reimbursement. Three emails and multiple calls later with at least 3 photos of receipt sent. I still have no reimbursement 3 weeks later. Disappointed with status of car (premium model) and maintenance and lackadaisical response to addressing the issue. Definitely NOT impressed.

To start off with, Joy at the counter was super friendly and helpful! I had just had a rough disembarkation (because we had to wait for an open gate) but she was quick to help and get me on my way, with clear instructions that the next person would help me get my vehicle and with the understanding, friendliness, customer service we don't always see anymore. When I reached the parking lot, I was told I could choose any vehicle between the rows I was told. I couldn't believe it. The selection was incredible! I couldn't help but think I'd be charged more because I booked a smaller vehicle but ended up choosing a smaller SUV. Nope, same price. The Jeep Compass was clean, worked perfectly and was a great fit for my visit. Checking back in was also super friendly and efficient. After a quick greeting and check of the vehicle, Aiden made sure I was happy with my vehicle, if I had any questions, concerns, how it could've been better, etc. I've rented from others before where I was told to just throw the keys on the dash and that was the end of our interaction. National made the effort for a friendly, customer-driven experience every chance they had to ensure a high level of satisfaction. I didn't download the app or become a member because I wasn't sure it'd be worth it but if every National Rental Car is as friendly and accommodating as the PHX Airport site, I think I may have a new favorite car rental company! Big thanks to the National PHX Airport team for making the car rental experience one of the best I've had to date!

Most recently, I rented a car for a week and after taking the train to the rental car center, I was able to skip the desk and head straight to the Emerald Aisle to pick any available car. I would highly recommend setting up an account with National and taking advantage of this.... being able to skip a line at the counter is a blessing. In any event, we went to the aisle, picked out our car and were off after a brief stop at the gate to check everything. Return was also quick and painless. Josh did a thorough inspection of the car, which we returned with a full tank and in pristine shape, and we were on our way in no time. It's amazing how frictionless the experience can be, as opposed to how awful other companies (I'm looking at you Hertz) can make it. I highly recommend National.

There was no long line (in fact, I was attended to immediately), it was just a HORRIBLE comedy of issues, one after another. This was my first experience with Budget, and will absolutely be my last. Here's a summary: I reserved an electric vehicle ("Ford Mach E or similar") through Budget using Costco's travel website. The rental fee for the entire 6 days was roughly $377, a phenomenal deal. I told the Budget employee that I had a reservation through Costco, and he couldn't find it. He asked for my confirmation number from my Costco confirmation e-mail, and found my reservation that way. He rung me up (took roughly 10 minutes), and said the total cost would be right around $1,700. I showed him the confirmation e-mail showing the $377 total, and he said that the "prices must have reset since it's now after midnight". He was unable to adjust the price because he needed a "manager number", and there were no managers on duty. He sought assistance from a coworker, who was able to help him (another 15 minutes), and got the price adjusted, but said that the car was no longer available. He looked for cars, and found a Genesis GV60, and said he could give it to me for another $10 / day, and I excitedly agreed. He went through the same ten-minute ordeal, and again, reported that the car was no longer available. This cycle went on over and over for over an hour, and I added that at that point I don't care if it's an electric car, I just want something to drive. He said he'd put me in a Mercedes, and would give it to me for the same $10 / day premium over my original price. He wrote parking space #140 on my pickup ticket, told me the keys were in the car, and to just go to spot 140 to pick it up, and show the QR code he'd texted me on my way out. So, off I went to the garage, found space 140, and in it was a Genesis, not the Mercedes on my contract. So, I went for help from the in-garage attendant, and he repeated the same "here's a car", "I'll update the contract", "Oops, that car's not available" a few more times. He eventually was able to transfer a "car over from the Avis side", and I went to the parking space to get it and it was a Ford Mach E, just like I'd reserved. Budget corporate responded to my "how did we so" survey, and refunded one day's rental fee, and apologized, thus the extra star.

    This is an update to my last update. More than a month later NO ONE has responded. Budget did give…read moreme a refund for 2 out of 8 days of my rental. When they first offered it, I turned it down. It wasn't enough. They gave it to me anyway. Sky Harbor is complicit in that they never even acknowledged my complaint to them. So much for the friendliest airport in the country. They basically gave me the Don't rent from Budget. Like so many corporations today, they don't give a crap about the people who hold the money. Use anyone else, just not them.
