I rented a Rav4 Hybrid from PHX SIXT car rental. I arrived after dark, and it was very difficult to see the car to do a walk-around to check for damage. They expect you to use their phone app to review and report additional damage. However, the app was very difficult to use, especially with it being so dark. The car was dirty, so we had to wipe off the dirt to check for damage. I needed to have an attendant assist me with photographing all the extra damage and reporting it through their app. For instance, there was unreported physical damage to the body of the car, and cigarette burns to the upholstery. I had to trust that the attendant got everything that I pointed out, as there was nothing for me to review before I had to sign approval. I rented the car on April 1, 2026, and returned it on April 6th. On April 2nd I received an email asking for an explanation of additional damage that they found on the vehicle, just hours after I left the lot. This was pre-existing damage that they were now blaming me for. I didn't see their email until I returned home from my trip. The email only had a link to a page where I was supposed to explain the reason for the damage, even though it existed before I rented the car. I attempted several times to contact them by phone, but the AI agent kept sending me to someone in another country who only spoke Spanish, who would then hang up on me. Apparently all phone assistants are in the Philippines. I finally found someone who spoke English, but they had no way to send me confirmation of my report of this issue. So I don't know what I can do if they try to charge me for pre-existing damage. I won't ever use this company again. I'll stick with only American-based companies. The car was fine to drive, but the experience was terrible. read more

May 8, 2026 - After waiting in line at Budget for 42 minutes and seeing no line at Sixt, I went for it. In less than 10 minutes I had several questions answered and a SUV in the same size/class for the same price! Thank you Manny/Mansour for your assistance. We rented a BMW luxury sedan for our trip to Scottsdale. Upon arrival at Phoenix Skyharbor, we proceeded to the Syxt counter and after the usual admin procedures, our rental was shiny, beautiful and ready. The attendants at the airport were very courteous and efficient. The car performed perfectly throughout the entire time we were in Phoenix. Upon return, a superb attendant by the name of Uryia made us feel like VIPs as we brought the car back. Be very careful! They charge exorbitant damage fees for existing damages. The check out and check in process has no oversight. I rented a car that had damages, multiple scratches on every single wheel. About a month after returning the car they wanted $650 for "A" scratch on one of the wheels. A scratch that was already on the wheel along with multiple other scratches. They wanted me to send pictures because of course they don't have any of their own oversight. They have lost a customer for this "scratch". I will never rent from them again. read more

The agents are consistently courteous and helpful, and although I've had a couple of less‑than‑ideal visits, the management team--especially Cora--has always gone above and beyond to make things right. Their responsiveness and genuine care for their customers are the main reasons I continue to return. The premium car selection is also very strong. Scam! Scam! Scam! Be aware they charge you for any little stuff you may have missed. You must Video the whole vehicle inside and out. They give you a wet vehicle in a dim lite garage..easy to miss something but they will find it and charge you!!! They want to charge us $1,800 for a nickel size smudge on the bumper we didn't cause. Over the past few years I have rented Sixt vehicles across the US and had good experiences each time. Originally I had doubts thinking that they were a low level rental car company. I was wrong. Sixt is very competitive with companies like Dollar, Budget and Thrifty and close to Hertz and National which are more expensive. My most recent Sixt experience was about a month ago here at PHX for a 6 day rental. They gave me a Toyota Camry hybrid that got excellent mileage. The cars exterior body and interior windows could have been cleaner but that is the norm with most rentals. Check out was easy along with the return. A lady there by the name of Sherry was helpful and professional. I have had good customer service experiences at other locations too. I give Sixt a 3 score because they met my expectations. While it may be the new kid on the national block they have succeeded well. I have no problem doing business with them. Unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures. read more

Rented a car to Sedona. It was not properly maintained. Despite being in a dusty climate windshield wiper fluid was empty. Drove 2 hrs to Sedona where key fob battery warning light went on. I had concerns about being stranded and took several hours out of my trip to contact algorithmic customer service. They had no options other than for me to replace battery. Didn't offer to send one out. Said they wound send video on how to do it. Never did. Spent time calling back. Finally got the email (after YouTube it myself). Then finding Ace hardware for the battery. While it was not expensive, it took time away from the vacation. I was told to contact customer service for reimbursement. Three emails and multiple calls later with at least 3 photos of receipt sent. I still have no reimbursement 3 weeks later. Disappointed with status of car (premium model) and maintenance and lackadaisical response to addressing the issue. Definitely NOT impressed. read more

use the QR code to open self report tool to log imperfections in car before you drive off. only get 1hr to do that and the parking staff did not tell me about this! (4 stars because of that) app check out made it really easy. go straight downstars to pickup keys wothout wait in line. parking area crew were very friendly. if you're worried about them charging for damage later pay extra and get the insurance. rates are on par with every other rental provider in that location. read more

AVOID SIXT LIKE THE PLAGUE. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR DAMAGE YOU DID NOT CAUSE. My experience started out quite positive, the rental pickup process was fast and easy, and the car was great. The return process was equally quick and easy, and after inspection, I was told everything was good and was sent the final invoice. Three days later, Sixt sent me a claim of damages for a tiny clear coat scratch on the edge of the door. I did not cause this scratch and never saw it while the vehicle was in my possession. Also, the scratch was so minor that it could be cleaned up with a microfiber cloth and polishing compound, by hand, as part of the wash. I know this because I did exactly this all the time as a former auto body shop employee. Sixt is trying to claim this "damage" will cost $490 to repair. This is conveniently $10 under most insurance deductibles. I suspect they are trying to milk their customers for as much as they can while avoiding insurance being involved, because anyone with any experience in the field will recognize the absurdity of their claims. After leaving a one star review on Google, I received a comment from Theresa, the branch manager, telling me to forward my case information to service@sixt.com. I did this, and two weeks later, I have received no response, even after follow up emails. Meanwhile, the claims management department is not budging, and has addressed none of my requests for clarification on how they arrived at their number and what "repairs" it would pay for, as their claim cited no actual estimate for repairs, no billable parts or labor, only a number for the damage, a document fee, and a "depreciation fee." I suspect this practice of damage fraud is baked into their business practices. It seems like an awfully cheap way to ensure they never have repeat customers. Beware of SIXT Rental Car - DO NOT RENT Like many other reviewers, I was hit with a Damage Claim for preexisting damage (TWICE). I rented from SIXT in 4/2025 and 7/2025, both experiences were exactly the same and resulted in unjustified damage claims approximately a week after the rental car was returned. Scam Details: 1. They advertise for standard rental cars (Nissan, or similar) at a competitive or slightly lower rate. 2. Free upgrade (BMW or similar). Not sure if they even have Nissan or similar in their fleet, only luxury cars. 3. Upsale for their insurance. If you decline and tell them you already have rental car coverage, they will persist and tell you that your existing insurance is inferior protection. 4. Preexisting Damage: Beware of their pre-inspection app, take/save pics of the car, and make sure you save copies on your device. Carefully inspect and photograph car's interior and exterior for preexisting damage. If you use their app only, the photos may not upload to their platform and may not save to your phone (check your cloud account). 5. Rental Return: Carefully inspect car, take/save photos, and make sure your vehicle inspection report clearly indicates no new damage. Sign and retain a copy of rental receipt for your records. 6. Expect Damage Claim approximately 7 - 10days later. It will indicate that new damage occurred to the vehicle during your rental period and that it was discovered sometime after your return inspection was conducted. Carefully complete damage report and attach all photos/final return receipt. Reflect on scam steps 1 - 5, luxury cars cost more to repair, if you used their app to photograph any preexisting damage, you may not have the pics (check your cloud account), and you have likely declined the insurance upsale. 7. Expect Repair Bill- you will receive a determination that you are responsible for the damage and a repair estimate. Carefully review all docs for accuracy. Since this appears to be their business model, the report is a template of the previous victim and may contain errors, including important details like rental dates and report completion dates. 8. Dispute claim, do not pay or authorize payment for repair, and carefully monitor your credit card statements for any additional/unauthorized charges. 7. Keep all docs, pics, and correspondence. They will close claim with "Hold Harmless" language or continue to demand payment, including pursuing collections. Additional Info: There are thousands of BBB Claims for exact same behavior that I described. There are lawsuits and money judgments for customers who suffered a derogatory collections entries on their credit reports. This company has highly suspicious business practices. MY car rental was too small for our luggage I called the day after purchased online at their website to customer service before my pick up date and said we need to get a bigger rental. Was given a Highlander all chargers ended up being $3,600 this was a 12 day rent more than double !!
