    We travelled to AZ for spring training, my family of 6 adults. We reserved a LARGE 7 passage SUV. My mom is a presidents club member and when we showed up we had to wait in a 30 minute line to then be given a small toyota highlander. Again we have 6 adults with luggage and we are cramped in this tiny suv when we saw plenty larger ones available. We asked a representative if we could have a larger vehicle similar to what we originally reserved and she simply said "It says or similar so you will have to take the toyota or reserve a new one". We then had to wait another 30 minutes in the exit line just to leave!! We have always had great experiences at hertz, until now! This is horrible and the customer service was also terrible.

    When visiting my son, I always land at Phoenix International Airport for their direct flights from Newark. Then I rent a car to drive to Tucson. It pays to sign up for free to become a GOLD member. You can skip the lines and go straight to your rental car. Why wait in a long regular line when you don't have to. I love that they let you choose any car you want on the lot for Gold members. Took me half an hour to pick one. Lol. They keep the cars pretty darn clean too. Be prepared to show your driver's license at the exit booth. Then off you go into the hot Arizona desert sun. There is another level above Gold and that is Hertz's Ultimate Series (President's Circle Status). Those cars are on a whole other level.

    Waited forever to make changes to reservation. They need to staff the booth during the peak spring training season travel.

    Fake fake fake gold service is a joke

    Terrible service. Gold plus membership is totally fake, our name was supposed to be on the board, not there, mile long line understaffed with one poor guy at the counter, two tired kids on a late flight at 1 am, took us over an hour to get a car, miserable. Don't rent from here

They expect you to use their phone app to review and report additional damage. However, the app was very difficult to use, especially with it being so dark. The car was dirty, so we had to wipe off the dirt to check for damage. I needed to have an attendant assist me with photographing all the extra damage and reporting it through their app. For instance, there was unreported physical damage to the body of the car, and cigarette burns to the upholstery. I had to trust that the attendant got everything that I pointed out, as there was nothing for me to review before I had to sign approval. I rented the car on April 1, 2026, and returned it on April 6th. On April 2nd I received an email asking for an explanation of additional damage that they found on the vehicle, just hours after I left the lot. This was pre-existing damage that they were now blaming me for. I didn't see their email until I returned home from my trip. The email only had a link to a page where I was supposed to explain the reason for the damage, even though it existed before I rented the car. I attempted several times to contact them by phone, but the AI agent kept sending me to someone in another country who only spoke Spanish, who would then hang up on me. Apparently all phone assistants are in the Philippines. I finally found someone who spoke English, but they had no way to send me confirmation of my report of this issue. So I don't know what I can do if they try to charge me for pre-existing damage. I won't ever use this company again. I'll stick with only American-based companies. The car was fine to drive, but the experience was terrible.

I looked and a couple of those in line at Budget ahead of me were still waiting there. I could've save an hour or more if I'd gone to Sixt initially. Thanks Sixt!!

Most recently, I rented a car for a week and after taking the train to the rental car center, I was able to skip the desk and head straight to the Emerald Aisle to pick any available car. I would highly recommend setting up an account with National and taking advantage of this.... being able to skip a line at the counter is a blessing. In any event, we went to the aisle, picked out our car and were off after a brief stop at the gate to check everything. Return was also quick and painless. Josh did a thorough inspection of the car, which we returned with a full tank and in pristine shape, and we were on our way in no time. It's amazing how frictionless the experience can be, as opposed to how awful other companies (I'm looking at you Hertz) can make it. I highly recommend National.

The staff are friendly and professional. I've had them offer to give me a bit of a discount when something inconvenient happens, and I'm glad they have that authority. This last time the car I rented had a lot of fingerprints on the windows and the carpeting in the trunk of the car was stained. There was also a splotch of something in the cupholder (I didn't try to remove it so I don't know how stuck on it was). That said, it didn't affect performance of the car and overall I still enjoyed driving it. The pricing seems okay. I think there are cheaper rental companies, but some of what I pay for is convenience. I'll keep using them when I visit Phoenix for work.

So I arrived at the customer service desk and waited in the very long line. Just to get to the desk and the employee to tell me its because my birthdate was missing...
