Had reservations for 12 people, my daughter and her family were running a few minutes behind. After they arrived and ordered , they waited an extra 50 minutes and their meal still had not come. Just wanting a refund, my daughter and son in law were told by the owner "why should I have to eat the cost of $18.00, it's ready now "owner was a complete ass)&); and then told them to never come back, which is fine because you could have been professional but decided to act the way you did. Just ate here for lunch today. It's definitely a cool Experience. All kinds of Buckeye stuff throughout train. We had the pizza burger with fries and side of onion rings. Great for kids! My kids loved the experience of eating in a train. Upon entering you order your food. The menu is enlarged on the wall but it hard to see with the person, register, and other things in the way. They have printed menus but they are copies of other copies so very difficult to read. I felt like the prices were high based on the quality of the food. They give a huge portion of fries, which I think was way too much. We had plates of fries leftover. Overall the food was average. Thick fried bologna, fresh handmade chicken salad, and fresh hand pressed burgers are the way they do it here. Awesome train conversion to a diner adorned with football memorabilia throughout. Most The Ohio State University, but also Ohio U Bobcats, and Cleveland Browns represented. It's like someone needed a place to store their collection and decided to open an awesome train restaurant to put it in. Outside is a play zone and all kinds of old west scenes surrounding the area. Captivated by the layout and decor, but don't touch display items. Absolutely worth checking out. Only issue right now is figuring how to get up there. The Buckeye Express Diner is my all time favorite "burger and fries" place. I stop here anytime I'm in the Mansfield/Belleville area. The diner is housed in an old railroad dining car and there are other old "train things" like an old locomotive on site. The restaurant sits up on a hill behind all the gas stations and fast food restaurants along the main road. On my last visit, I had the "Woody" which is a burger with a horse radish sauce. The burger was excellent and the fries are always great. Even my wife who is not a burger freak like me, loves their burgers and fries. The menu is heavy on burgers and sandwiches, including hotdogs and fish. The prices are very reasonable. Top of my list for burgers and fries. read more

We got there when they first opened and there was already a line. It was worth the wait. We had fried pickles, a philly cheesesteak basket, mushroom burger basket, and the shrimp basket. They were all delicious! The fries were fresh cut like fair fries.The service was fast and friendly. Eating in the train car was a neat experience, but it was very crowded. I was a little disappointed in the Ohio State Buckeyes collection in the place. BUT, I had the Lake Erie Perch & Onion rings -- it WAS THE BEST FISH I"VE EVER EATEN.. I'm from Ohio, I know what I'm talking about. It was a bit pricey (but what isn't these days), the staff was friendly and attentive. My, what an excellent place for a Rueben. The group with me had burgers and were super pleased as well with their food. They really do over do it with the fries though, but we took home a bunch and they were still good heated up with a cast iron skillet. I always see this on Ohio travels on Facebook and comes highly recommended. It is really cool to see the different things they have there and to be able to eat in a train car. The experience was based around the train and the Ohio state football team, with many pictures and memorabilia. The food was just average. I had the perch sandwich and my wife had the wings. Interesting little place. I've always wondered what it was like. You pay upfront and they deliver your meals to your table. The seating area, as well we the entire restaurant, is modeled after rail cars. At first I wasn't too sure of it, but decided to give them a go. The restaurant itself is really cool. We are dining in a train car! It's a must see for Ohio State fans as Buckeye decor is EVERYWHERE. The staff couldn't be more friendly and their recommendation was spot on. I ordered the Italian Sandwich w/mac and cheese and my husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger with hand cut fries. Had the Woody burger and a pizza burger, fries and mushrooms. The burgers were barely seasoned, and the hand cut fries are what you would expect from a fair. It was diner food. Best part was that it all came out good and hot. Service was alright, was quick and efficient. You order and find a seat. The kids delivering the food were pleasant. The train cars were fun, loaded with OSU memorabilia. The decor kept you busy looking, while your food cooked. Bathrooms needed some love. Stopped in on our way to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway for lunch. True diner food...even a one-pound burger option. I opted for the two min burgers and fries (regulate burger is 1/2 lb). Fresh buns, hot burgers and fries like you get at the fair (malt vinegar on all tables!)...hot bc and tasty! Order as you enter; server delivers to your table. Wife and I rode our motorcycle here over the weekend. We thought it was a neat place and the food was really good and priced appropriately. She had the Ruben and I had the perch sandwich. Both solid options. Only negatives were the gravel driveway which is a bit tricky to climb the hill on a motorcycle (this place is a big motorcycle destination) and the train horn that was cool was abused by a couple kids while we were there and it was obnoxious and actually the reason we ended up leaving sooner as opposed to taking a few more pics. read more

Unique and fun dining in a railroad car. When you walk in, you place your order and pay at the counter. There's a 3% fee if you use a credit or debit card. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich that came with fries. I also ordered a side of coleslaw which is the creamy type. The chicken salad on a croissant was delicious and just the right size. It was described for those with a lighter appetite. The chicken was white meat and they were generous with the scoop, I had to use a fork to eat it. The fries were a bit disappointing, soggy and pretty greasy. Drinks were not included, they had Pepsi products and tea. Free refills. My coleslaw was very good, creamy and sweet. It contained hard boiled eggs, but they weren't overwhelming. Wait time at 2:30 on a Saturday was about 30 minutes to get our food, but the cashier did tell us that before we ordered. Friendly staff that asked us a couple of times if everything was good and if we needed anything. My friend got the patty melt which she said was good. Another two got the cheeseburger and one really liked it but the other wasn't happy that it had cheddar sauce all over it instead of a slice. Lastly, another got the half pound chili dog and everyone agreed that it would be what they wanted next time if we returned. Buckeye Express Diner This diner has been on my list for a couple years now. I always thought it was in the middle of nowhere, but I happened to see it on a trip to Cleveland. I was very surprised that you could see it from the highway. We decided that we would stop the next day on the way home. I am so glad we did. Like I mentioned, this diner sits right off the highway. It is on a hill behind a service station, so you feel a bit more secluded. You won't be bothered by traffic noise and it is easy to get in and out of the lot. When you arrive, parking is behind the business in a gravel lot. There are decor items to look at outside and a playground. When you go into the diner, the counter is just inside the door. You order and then seat yourselves. There was a big group arriving at the same time we did, so we opted to sit in the main building and let them enjoy the train section (we will sit their next trip). We ordered our food, picked a seat and enjoyed looking at all the pictures around the room. Being OSU fans, it was fun seeing the photos and reading the articles. I ordered the Woody burger (horseradish/bacon aioli ), and my wife ordered the bacon cheeseburger. Both meals came with a side of Fresh cut fries (other options available with an upcharge). We both had fountain drinks. The drinks were smaller than expected, but refills were available so it wasn't a big deal. The burgers were handpatted and cooked through but juicy. The aioli on my burger had the horseradish flavor but none of the heat. The bacon worked well within the horseradish and was loaded onto my burger. The fries were hot and fresh. Thought this place deserved my business due to having the World's Largest Bobblehead on the property...big mistake!!!!! Dining in a caboose...was empty when I arrived at 4:30pm, but soon was filled with a few parents and lots of kids in a confined space...was like an upscale McDonald's with not-so-great food at the higher prices. Woody Burger (horseradish and bacon sauce)...cost of $13.99 and I decided to substitute mac n cheese for the fries...DO NOT EVER ORDER THESE TWO ITEMS...GROSS!!!! I thought there would just be a little sauce...was drowning in it...had to scrape off to even attempt eating. The mac n cheese was the worst I have ever had...literally took two little bites and pushed aside...tasted like noodles with cheez whiz.... I am putting this review out there to warn others...or to at least try other menu items when visiting. Btw...The spicy crab bisque was yummy and the servers were very attentive...reason for giving two stars...just surprised the one did not question why she was taking away an almost full side of mac and cheese when i told her i was done...she didn't even ask if i wanted a lid to take the leftovers home...must happen all the time...if so, change the recipe please. read more

Pretty cool. Everything is Ohio State oriented. I'm not a fan but didn't mind. You come in and order at the counter. Suggest you come early because we got there around 5 and it was getting crowded. They offer pub type fare. Hotdog, hamburgers, etc. They say that they have beer but its miller lite type crap. I was undecided but went with grilled cheese. I know. No imagination. The other half got bacon something burger. He was seriously impressed with the burger. Grilled cheese was what it was. So I got chicken salad sandwich to go. Gotta take a star away. Yuck. Huge pieces of onions in there. Just dice them up at least. You could smell the onion from a mile away. Anyway, they bring you your food and do offer refills for your soda. Staff was friendly. You actually eat in a rail car. Pretty sweet but the seat yourself thing is not really conducive to this time of social distancing.
