Cool train themed restaurant (could've even called it "Dining Car"). Food is delicious and plentiful, and not too badly priced for what you get! read more

CAUTION - limited hours. It's been a few years since I passed through this area and I was looking forward to eating at The Buckeye Express Cafe. Unfortunately, their hours Monday to Thursday are now limited to 11a-4p and their weekend hours are 11a-7p. Sadly, this was Thursday and it was after 4p. Great place to eat - just get here early. read more

Buckeye Express Diner - Cheeseburger - American Near Me - Bellville, Ohio

Got the food to go. They did have a few picnic tables outside. It's a cute little place with things to see in every nook and cranny. The staff was friendly. You order your food and drink then go sit on the train. The burgers, fries, and onion rings were all delicious. Most of the burgers came home from all the food we got. read more

Just ate here for lunch today. It's definitely a cool Experience. All kinds of Buckeye stuff throughout train. We had the pizza burger with fries and side of onion rings. The pizza burger and onion rings were great. They tasted hot and good. The fries were soggy and not crisp. The service we had was great. read more

Hate to to even say this as a local but you sure can tell Tony retired. Quality of food has suffered and place is dirty. Lukewarm food when served with only 3 tables occupied inside. Hopefully this will be corrected as we are as we would like to be able to get lunch here. read more

What an incredible family owned business! I have never had anything but amazing food here! The Reuben is exceptional and the fish Friday is incredible too! The service is great and the OSU and train decor provides a unique experience and cool ambience! Dom the cook is a wizard in the kitchen! If you are in this area then you cannot miss a chance to dine here! This is one of the best kept secrets of this area and it shouldn't be a secret at all! The food is too good! Tell everyone! read more

Have been here twice, and have been very pleased with the food, prices, the kitschy decor/theme, and service has been pretty good. With it being an old train car, there is a musty smell that just is what it is. The burgers are huge and very tasty. The runner/waitress was adequate, though waited a long time on one visit to get mayo for my burger. The bobble head and tooting the train whistle are worth a stop, but the burgers will keep me coming back. read more

Such a cute little place to visit! Food is great too! People are wonderful! Eating out of a caboose train car is such a unique experience:

The food was decent but the service wasn't great. The condition of the restaurant is also not great.

Food is good! Family friendly and good service. A little pricy but it's quality and a lot of fries with the burgers and sandwiches. Thick fried bologna, fresh handmade chicken salad, and fresh hand pressed burgers are the way they do it here. Awesome train conversion to a diner adorned with football memorabilia throughout. Most The Ohio State University, but also Ohio U Bobcats, and Cleveland Browns represented. It's like someone needed a place to store their collection and decided to open an awesome train restaurant to put it in. Outside is a play zone and all kinds of old west scenes surrounding the area. Captivated by the layout and decor, but don't touch display items. Absolutely worth checking out. Only issue right now is figuring how to get up there. Take the first road to the left of the building that look like a non paved construction access road up the hill. Can't wait to pass through again to try something else on the menu! read more

Great for kids! My kids loved the experience of eating in a train. Upon entering you order your food. The menu is enlarged on the wall but it hard to see with the person, register, and other things in the way. They have printed menus but they are copies of other copies so very difficult to read. I felt like the prices were high based on the quality of the food. They give a huge portion of fries, which I think was way too much. We had plates of fries leftover. Overall the food was average. It's worth a trip once for the novelty of the experience. read more

Neat place. The food is really good. Large portions. My husband and I could have split an item. People very friendly and attentive. Our waitress was amazing. Recommend. read more

Food was inedible, place was dirty inside (ants at the soda station) and outside. As one-time tourists we expected a casual & fun place to have a good burger. I'm leaving one star only because there were no options for zero stars. read more

We stopped by on an afternoon drive and we're surprised by the quality of the food. We also enjoyed the old train ambiance.

Amazing place for lunch! Food was spectacular! Fresh, hot and large portions, we had the bologna, cheeseburger and perch with fries & onion rings. Service was friendly, prompt and helpful. What a fun little roadside lunch with the train and bobble head! We will be back when traveling across Hwy 30! read more

Had reservations for 12 people, my daughter and her family were running a few minutes behind. After they arrived and ordered , they waited an extra 50 minutes and their meal still had not come. Just wanting a refund, my daughter and son in law were told by the owner "why should I have to eat the cost of $18.00, it's ready now "owner was a complete ass)&); and then told them to never come back, which is fine because you could have been professional but decided to act the way you did. None of us will be going back, food wasn't that good anyway and for an owner to talk like that to my daughter, just wow! read more

This place stays busy! The food was excellent. I had the 4 cheese grilled cheese and it was SO cheesy and delicious! The fries are hand cut and were really good. They have outside picnic tables and a kids area to play in. This is a must stop!!! read more

We got there when they first opened and there was already a line. It was worth the wait. We had fried pickles, a philly cheesesteak basket, mushroom burger basket, and the shrimp basket. They were all delicious! The fries were fresh cut like fair fries. The service was fast and friendly. Eating in the train car was a neat experience, but it was very crowded. The restraunt was clean and so were the restrooms. I would hands down recommend the philly! read more

I was a little disappointed in the Ohio State Buckeyes collection in the place. BUT, I had the Lake Erie Perch & Onion rings -- it WAS THE BEST FISH I"VE EVER EATEN.. I'm from Ohio, I know what I'm talking about. It was a bit pricey (but what isn't these days), the staff was friendly and attentive. Back in Texas now & will have to wait till next year to have more Perch & Onion Rings. WOW loved the food. Little hard to get to, due to no sign to point where to turn, BUT worth the trip. You really do have to try this place !!!!!!! Allyson R. read more

Interesting little place. I've always wondered what it was like. You pay upfront and they deliver your meals to your table. The seating area, as well we the entire restaurant, is modeled after rail cars. At first I wasn't too sure of it, but decided to give them a go. The twin mini cheeseburgers were actually fair sized with a huge order of fries! That was more than enough more wife to split with their side salad. It was delicious!! Thank you! read more

My, what an excellent place for a Rueben. The group with me had burgers and were super pleased as well with their food. They really do over do it with the fries though, but we took home a bunch and they were still good heated up with a cast iron skillet. Servers were on top of their game, since we served our own drinks I was surprised that they got refills for the ones that wanted them. Not a real fancy place but interesting enough with the train car. Will definitely return there but next time split a meal with my wife, read more

Not sure if I enjoyed the Buckeye atmosphere or foos. I had the Lake Erie Perch no bread & it was 3 large pieces. Very good. Would stop again. Plus you can see the world's largest bobble head. read more

I always see this on Ohio travels on Facebook and comes highly recommended. It is really cool to see the different things they have there and to be able to eat in a train car. The experience was based around the train and the Ohio state football team, with many pictures and memorabilia. The food was just average. I had the perch sandwich and my wife had the wings. It was a typical diner experience. Nothing amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful. read more

What a cool place. Great atmosphere and the older man taking the order... not sure if employee or owner, but the happiest and best greater ever. Food was great. Definitely a great stop read more

Great burger. Almost too much. Fries were ok. Again WAY too much. If it is being visited by bus loads of older people there is no way they are eating all that food. Lower the portions and lower the price. But would I go back? Sure IF I was in the area. And fix the bathrooms. You can see you them when closed. read more

Had the Woody burger and a pizza burger, fries and mushrooms. The burgers were barely seasoned, and the hand cut fries are what you would expect from a fair. It was diner food. Best part was that it all came out good and hot. Service was alright, was quick and efficient. You order and find a seat. The kids delivering the food were pleasant. The train cars were fun, loaded with OSU memorabilia. The decor kept you busy looking, while your food cooked. Bathrooms needed some love. The stall doors didn't shut, and the door to the women's bathroom was kept wide open and didn't completely close. Same issue for men's restroom, although no stall, just one toilet and a urinal. My husband walked in on someone sitting on the toilet. Oops. read more

Stopped in on our way to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway for lunch. True diner food...even a one-pound burger option. I opted for the two min burgers and fries (regulate burger is 1/2 lb). Fresh buns, hot burgers and fries like you get at the fair (malt vinegar on all tables!)...hot bc and tasty! Order as you enter; server delivers to your table. Server stopped by several times to clear dishes and refill drinks. Will be back as we travel 71 north with some frequency. Call ahead seating also available...it was busy the hour we were there! read more

Buckeye Express Diner - Mini burgers and fries - American Near Me - Bellville, Ohio

This would be one of those local traps where everyone says it's good because they maybe never had a good burger. The burgers are dry and overcooked with no flavor. I did enjoy the decor. Buckeye Express Diner - Sad burger. - American Near Me - Bellville, Ohio

Have tried to eat dinner twice, today being one of the attempts, and both times the diner was not open. Is the diner out of business

Unique and fun dining in a railroad car. When you walk in, you place your order and pay at the counter. There's a 3% fee if you use a credit or debit card. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich that came with fries. I also ordered a side of coleslaw which is the creamy type. The chicken salad on a croissant was delicious and just the right size. It was described for those with a lighter appetite. The chicken was white meat and they were generous with the scoop, I had to use a fork to eat it. The fries were a bit disappointing, soggy and pretty greasy. Drinks were not included, they had Pepsi products and tea. Free refills. My coleslaw was very good, creamy and sweet. It contained hard boiled eggs, but they weren't overwhelming. Wait time at 2:30 on a Saturday was about 30 minutes to get our food, but the cashier did tell us that before we ordered. Friendly staff that asked us a couple of times if everything was good and if we needed anything. My friend got the patty melt which she said was good. Another two got the cheeseburger and one really liked it but the other wasn't happy that it had cheddar sauce all over it instead of a slice. Lastly, another got the half pound chili dog and everyone agreed that it would be what they wanted next time if we returned. I was very happy with my chicken salad croissant but the chili dog looked pretty awesome and I'd get it next time too. read more

Buckeye Express Diner This diner has been on my list for a couple years now. I always thought it was in the middle of nowhere, but I happened to see it on a trip to Cleveland. I was very surprised that you could see it from the highway. We decided that we would stop the next day on the way home. I am so glad we did. Like I mentioned, this diner sits right off the highway. It is on a hill behind a service station, so you feel a bit more secluded. You won't be bothered by traffic noise and it is easy to get in and out of the lot. When you arrive, parking is behind the business in a gravel lot. There are decor items to look at outside and a playground. When you go into the diner, the counter is just inside the door. You order and then seat yourselves. There was a big group arriving at the same time we did, so we opted to sit in the main building and let them enjoy the train section (we will sit their next trip). We ordered our food, picked a seat and enjoyed looking at all the pictures around the room. Being OSU fans, it was fun seeing the photos and reading the articles. I ordered the Woody burger (horseradish/bacon aioli ), and my wife ordered the bacon cheeseburger. Both meals came with a side of Fresh cut fries (other options available with an upcharge). We both had fountain drinks. The drinks were smaller than expected, but refills were available so it wasn't a big deal. The burgers were handpatted and cooked through but juicy. The aioli on my burger had the horseradish flavor but none of the heat. The bacon worked well within the horseradish and was loaded onto my burger. The fries were hot and fresh. Service was fast and staff was friendly. We will definitely be going back. read more

Wow wow wow! I'm so glad we found this stop! We stopped two places and they were closed since it was Sunday; and we are glad they were! The food was awesome! The ambiance is cute, but I hope no Michigan Fans find their way here! Hand cut fries, and hand patties burgers! I make burgers for a LIVING , and these were the best burgers I have had outside of my own! Service is eh, but it's basically serve yourself which is new to me, but I can't speak enough on how great the food was. Bacon Horseradish sauce.... Dang Yummy! Thank you for an awesome experience! I only gave four stars because I would love table service here so I can tip the hard working staff! read more
