So, we went in and it was busy. It slowed down after a bit and EVERY table was dirty as well as the 50 dirty glasses on the bar. NO ONE CLEANED UP ANYTHING!! Come to find out the owner was waiting tables and she wasn't doing much of anything. I believe the other two servers were high on something. Come to work without being high....please. It ruins the experience for the people who like to go out and try new places. Our server was nice enough, but dang. The service was great, but the food was meh. It was greasy (not in a good way), the bacon was both undercooked and greasy, the fries were cold and overcooked, and it just wasn't good. For what you get, it's way overpriced. Honestly, I don't mind for the fact that it's helping a small, local business, but probably wouldn't recommend it. Definitely wouldn't go back. Also, no kids menu, such means I'm paying adult prices for my kid to eat half a chicken strip and four fries. Overall, not worth it. Again, service was good! My Manhattan was pretty good; however, not sure why there was an orange slice in it. My wife ordered chicken noodle soup, mom a Ruben, and I their Naked in the Park. The soup reminded me of shredded chicken breast, noodles, and Swanson Broth. No other flavorings. No onions, celery, carrots...nothing. My Naked in the Park was good, but seriously lacking seasoning. Mom's Ruben was great. Service was great, our server came round a few times checking on us and made another Manhattan for me. Not sure why there was an orange slice in each of my Manhattans when the standard garnish is a cherry. I know the construction has hampered some businesses. There was only one other table occupied and a couple bar stools when we arrived at 1530. read more

My wife and I try to find a new place for lunch every week. We look for non-chain, locally-owned pubs, cafes, or small restaurants. This week we visited Unclue John's Place - on the square in Mansfield. This appears to be a place that's been here for years. Very cozy and very comfortable with lots of dark wood, and a mixture of booths and tables. My favorite food in places like this is a burger. Pubs, bars, and cafes seem to excel at preparing burgers. I ordered their Cheesesteak cheeseburger which includes a hamburger patty topped with shaved ribeye steak and your choice of regular or spicy peppers and onions. I opted for the spicy peppers and my burger was outstanding. My wife's "go-to" choice is frequently a Reuben and that's what she ordered yesterday. She said it was excellent and was one of the best Reubens she's had. We ordered a LARGE order of home-cut fries to split and we had ample fries. The service was excellent and the tab for the two of us was $30.00 - not bad considering the quantity and quality of the food. We'll definitely be back. read more

First, I must say our server was very rude, My husband and I decided to try Uncle John's Place 11/8/24. We were seated near the kitchen and were able to see the kitchen. We were able to see the dishwasher while he was washing the dishes. We were totally shocked to see how the tableware was cleaned. There were 2 sinks side by side. One was the wash sink for all tableware and the other was for rinse. We noticed the dishwasher had a rag in the rinse sink and used that rag to wipe the stainless area that the dirty dishes would sit until they were put in the wash rack and replaced into the rinse sink! We were shocked that not only about the rinse sink and the rag being used to clean the stainless area that the dirty tableware was but the water in both was never changed in the hour that we were there. We are reporting this establishment to the health department of Richland County because of the sanitary conditions of this establishment. read more

Been wanting to try Uncle John's for a while and glad we did. Arrived after a late soccer match on a Saturday. Place was busy but not packed. Greeter was pleasant and waitress was nice and accommodating. Good atmosphere. All 5 of us enjoyed our meal. My reuben burger was amazing. Uncle John's is OK. If you're looking for a greasy spoon, diner-type restaurant, this is the place to go in Mansfield. The portions are huge. There are lots of fried things on the menu: fried shrimp baskets, fried chicken tender baskets, French fries, fried hash browns served all day. This is your place for fried food. This is not your place for salads. Nor is it a place that caters to children in the slightest. Nor is it a place to visit during the last half of the weekend. (They're closed on Sunday.) Nor is it a place to just drop by for dinner on a Saturday -- they have limited seating, and they get very busy. The salad part doesn't bother me as much, because the salad I received was what I kind of expected from a diner: some iceberg and a couple of tomatoes. However, there's really no excuse for Uncle John's to not have a kids menu. They have no kids menu, no portion sizes smaller than extremely huge. So if you order a cheeseburger for your child, you get this gigantic burger with a knife stuck through the middle of it. Uncle John's serves food that kids like: burgers, chicken tenders, fries, etc. I'm not sure why they don't throw those things on a kids menu with smaller portions. They also don't have small cups, so if you order a water for your child, it's served in a 20-ounce glass. It's just frustrating. My child isn't going to drink 20 ounces of anything in one sitting, and a glass that big is just going to end up getting knocked over. And also, my child isn't going to eat a half-pound burger that's so tall that it needs a knife through it to hold it together, and also? You just placed a burger with a knife in it in front of my child, who of course is going to reach for the knife, because he's a child. It's just small considerations like these that would make a huge difference for parents who just want to eat at a restaurant with their children without getting shanked. We were in town for a show and wanted to grab a bite beforehand. I found this place on Yelp and we sat at the bar. The bartender was also serving tables so she was busy, but friendly. We each had fish (dinner for me and sandwich for him) and it was tasty. I had a glass of wine. It's a cool place for locals and I would return if in town again. read more

So sorry to say, 3/23/24 visit was beyond bad. Arrived after the rush, 7:15PM to have a dinner. Sat at bar. First, they still had not cleaned up the tables and bar from the earlier dinner rush. Waited 10 Minutes before we were acknowledge to be there. Ordered dinner, salads & bread for meal never arrived until meals were brought. Opps, it was noticed we had no salad and bread. Then half the meal was cold...... they were nice enough to take this off our bill....... all the problems were mostly due to bartender working to help waitress in main dinning room. Figured dinning room was the place to be. Note: We did leave a proper tip. Management needs to look at 'all' patrons are to get good service and a hot dinner. Not just certain tables....... My wife and I were on our way to Kentucky for a family Thanksgiving get together and Mansfield was about half way on the 16 hour drive so we decided to stay there for a night. We like to try local places when we travel, as opposed to chain restaurants, and are very glad we found this spot. It's on the small side, cozy and warm. Friendly and high energy staff. It's a long narrow room, a few tables in the front of the house, bar to the left (with table place settings on it) and a divider separating that from a row of booths and 2-tops to the right. We opted to sit at the bar. Only two waitresses serving the whole place and they did a great job - especially Fritzy who took care of us. Friendly, efficient and constantly in motion. Now this is not a white tablecloth kind of place. It's a pub, a local and family friendly place, and as that it's definitely 5 star. (a family of 6 was waiting for a table as we walked in). Drinks were solid. I like hamburgers and I really like Rubens so of course I had to order the Ruben hamburger. What a genius combination! My wife ordered their risque'ly named naked in the park dinner - slices of rib eye over home fries with cheese and peppers and onions. Excellent! About half way through our dinner a guy came in and sat down at a seat at the bar next to us. After a bit we fell into conversation. He is a life long resident of Mansfield and has been coming to Uncle Johns since he was a kid. His 8 year old is a pasta fanatic, his 16 year old not so much. He likes to come by once or twice a week. Tonight he was there to catch a quick bite (not that we were judging but it was soup and salad) before going to an Elks meeting. Kind of guy you like to have in your community and Uncle John's is his kind of place. If, like us, your passing trough Mansfield definitely consider Uncle John's. read more
