Friendly dive bar atmosphere with some pretty good food. Stopped in on our way into town for a late night dinner. My husband loved his cheese steak cheeseburger and onion rings. I had the home fries covered in shaved ribeye, hot peppers, onions, swiss and topped with a sunnyside egg. It was huge and the leftovers (plus a couple more eggs) ended up feeding us both the next night. Both mains were fairly priced. My only complaint would be the 6-8 onion rings cost $10.95. I get that it was a starter as they didn't offer a side, but there should've been more on the plate at that price. All of their sides seem expensive compared to their burgers, but I'd go again. read more

They hook you up with some real good burgers and fries. Get a burger with a lot of big-time toppings on it, maybe have them take a separate sandwich and put the contents of that sandwich on top of your burger and then you will be set. read more

The service was great, but the food was meh. It was greasy (not in a good way), the bacon was both undercooked and greasy, the fries were cold and overcooked, and it just wasn't good. For what you get, it's way overpriced. Honestly, I don't mind for the fact that it's helping a small, local business, but probably wouldn't recommend it. Definitely wouldn't go back. Also, no kids menu, such means I'm paying adult prices for my kid to eat half a chicken strip and four fries. Overall, not worth it. Again, service was good! I appreciated the nice waitress and the clean restaurant! $74 (over $80 with tip) for a sub par lunch doesn't sit well with me. read more

My Manhattan was pretty good; however, not sure why there was an orange slice in it. My wife ordered chicken noodle soup, mom a Ruben, and I their Naked in the Park. The soup reminded me of shredded chicken breast, noodles, and Swanson Broth. No other flavorings. No onions, celery, carrots...nothing. My Naked in the Park was good, but seriously lacking seasoning. Mom's Ruben was great. Service was great, our server came round a few times checking on us and made another Manhattan for me. Not sure why there was an orange slice in each of my Manhattans when the standard garnish is a cherry. I know the construction has hampered some businesses. There was only one other table occupied and a couple bar stools when we arrived at 1530. read more

This place used to be 5 stars but the prices are insanely high now. $9.95 for onion rings. Fish is $16.95 and does not include chips. Soft drinks are $3.50. Food is good, but plan to spend $25+ for lunch. It's unfortunate as it was once a go to place for good food and good prices. Prices now are closer to east coast establishments. read more

This place is a Mansfield institution, and deservedly so. Nick and his crew are working magic in that kitchen. They serve enormous portions of excellently prepared food. The burgers are amazing, the steaks are delicious, and the potatoes are perfection. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Keep an eye out for their specials! They whip up some creative masterpieces! The place itself has a cool,neighborhood pub vibe with art on the walls and awesome music in the background. So, we went in and it was busy. It slowed down after a bit and EVERY table was dirty as well as the 50 dirty glasses on the bar. NO ONE CLEANED UP ANYTHING!! Come to find out the owner was waiting tables and she wasn't doing much of anything. I believe the other two servers were high on something. Come to work without being high....please. It ruins the experience for the people who like to go out and try new places. Our server was nice enough, but dang. The food was good, but no one was cleaning anything up and that turns me off....no matter how good the food is. read more

My wife and I try to find a new place for lunch every week. We look for non-chain, locally-owned pubs, cafes, or small restaurants. This week we visited Unclue John's Place - on the square in Mansfield. This appears to be a place that's been here for years. Very cozy and very comfortable with lots of dark wood, and a mixture of booths and tables. My favorite food in places like this is a burger. Pubs, bars, and cafes seem to excel at preparing burgers. I ordered their Cheesesteak cheeseburger which includes a hamburger patty topped with shaved ribeye steak and your choice of regular or spicy peppers and onions. I opted for the spicy peppers and my burger was outstanding. My wife's "go-to" choice is frequently a Reuben and that's what she ordered yesterday. She said it was excellent and was one of the best Reubens she's had. We ordered a LARGE order of home-cut fries to split and we had ample fries. The service was excellent and the tab for the two of us was $30.00 - not bad considering the quantity and quality of the food. We'll definitely be back. read more

First, I must say our server was very rude, My husband and I decided to try Uncle John's Place 11/8/24. We were seated near the kitchen and were able to see the kitchen. We were able to see the dishwasher while he was washing the dishes. We were totally shocked to see how the tableware was cleaned. There were 2 sinks side by side. One was the wash sink for all tableware and the other was for rinse. We noticed the dishwasher had a rag in the rinse sink and used that rag to wipe the stainless area that the dirty dishes would sit until they were put in the wash rack and replaced into the rinse sink! We were shocked that not only about the rinse sink and the rag being used to clean the stainless area that the dirty tableware was but the water in both was never changed in the hour that we were there. We are reporting this establishment to the health department of Richland County because of the sanitary conditions of this establishment. read more

Uncle John's is OK. If you're looking for a greasy spoon, diner-type restaurant, this is the place to go in Mansfield. The portions are huge. There are lots of fried things on the menu: fried shrimp baskets, fried chicken tender baskets, French fries, fried hash browns served all day. This is your place for fried food. This is not your place for salads. Nor is it a place that caters to children in the slightest. Nor is it a place to visit during the last half of the weekend. (They're closed on Sunday.) Nor is it a place to just drop by for dinner on a Saturday -- they have limited seating, and they get very busy. The salad part doesn't bother me as much, because the salad I received was what I kind of expected from a diner: some iceberg and a couple of tomatoes. However, there's really no excuse for Uncle John's to not have a kids menu. They have no kids menu, no portion sizes smaller than extremely huge. So if you order a cheeseburger for your child, you get this gigantic burger with a knife stuck through the middle of it. Uncle John's serves food that kids like: burgers, chicken tenders, fries, etc. I'm not sure why they don't throw those things on a kids menu with smaller portions. They also don't have small cups, so if you order a water for your child, it's served in a 20-ounce glass. It's just frustrating. My child isn't going to drink 20 ounces of anything in one sitting, and a glass that big is just going to end up getting knocked over. And also, my child isn't going to eat a half-pound burger that's so tall that it needs a knife through it to hold it together, and also? You just placed a burger with a knife in it in front of my child, who of course is going to reach for the knife, because he's a child. It's just small considerations like these that would make a huge difference for parents who just want to eat at a restaurant with their children without getting shanked. That said, my BLT sandwich was good, and the bacon in it was cooked perfectly. I had a great sandwich. read more

We were in town for a show and wanted to grab a bite beforehand. I found this place on Yelp and we sat at the bar. The bartender was also serving tables so she was busy, but friendly. Returned to Mansfield for business after several years have passed. I remembered Uncle John's and it certainly didn't disappoint! The Reuben was one of the best that I've ever had, you could taste the lean, thin sliced corned beef and the fresh rye bread. Perfect kraut and dressing.
