It took 24 minutes to be served a single cheeseburger and fries, apparently to allow them time to grow cold first. The staff were spectacularly apathetic, as though they were staging a slowdown strike. It's not as though they were busy, either. I was one of six tables, two of whom had been served before I arrived. Service this slow and inefficient is truly remarkable. I will say the milkshake was tasty, and because of the well insulated cup, it had not melted by the time I was served my food. That was the only bright spot in this experience. It's a shame when a once very good restaurant chain falls on hard times, but Steak N Shake isn't the first, and surely won't be the last.

However, the customer service deserves 0-1 stars. When she handed the cone to my brother in law for my 4-year old nephew, he said," I asked for a cup." She replied," You said cone." Try to imagine a very harsh tone here. After I finished my shake, I went to ask for water. I very gingerly asked if I could have a cup of ice water. She came back and said, ".25." I didn't have any money, so I said, "sorry, let me go see if I can find some." She said," you don't have any money?!." "No, I said. We just had a very larger order. We're sitting over there." She said, "I don't usually give out water for free. Do you know what goes into this cup." At that point, I said, "Sorry, if it's that big of a deal, don't worry about it."
