Came here for a wedding and stopped by this place to try it out... heard that their burger and shake is good, so I have to try it... order a bacon cheese burger and tater tot with Nutella milkshake... burger is ok... fresh, decent size... tater tot is amazing... fresh and crunchy... must be the beef tallow that gave it some extra flavor... it was so good!!! Shake is ok.. would want more Nutella favor.. service is ok.. you order via the kiosk.. and that might cause some delay bc navigating the menu choices as a first timer is time consuming.. therefore the line was long and people did walk out... otherwise the service is quite fast.. do have to say the floor is very slippery... so just be careful!!! Giving this a one star rating only because I can't give it minus stars. Horrible restaurant with very poor management! Approximately 20 people waiting for their dining in food (some of who had been waiting for over 20 minutes) and a baseball team of around 15 boys came in. The baseball team placed their orders "to go" and the restaurant stopped all work on the "dine in" orders and filled all of the "to go" orders first. Baseball team then proceeded to sit down and eat their orders in. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food because of this and then when we finally did get it, it was cold. Many people complained to the manager and were told they could wait or they could leave. Refused refunds if they wanted to leave. Absolutely ridiculous. Now I understand why over 200 Steak N Shake locations have closed in the last seven years. Ordering at this location is via kiosk only; apparently, they can't be bothered to operate a cash register. It took 24 minutes to be served a single cheeseburger and fries, apparently to allow them time to grow cold first. The staff were spectacularly apathetic, as though they were staging a slowdown strike. It's not as though they were busy, either. I was one of six tables, two of whom had been served before I arrived. Service this slow and inefficient is truly remarkable. I will say the milkshake was tasty, and because of the well insulated cup, it had not melted by the time I was served my food. That was the only bright spot in this experience. It's a shame when a once very good restaurant chain falls on hard times, but Steak N Shake isn't the first, and surely won't be the last. read more

I'm not sure the hate for this location. It was clean inside. The staff were incredibly friendly when we went to get our order. You do have to order via kiosk but that is becoming more common place with fast food. The meals were hot and delicious. No complaints on the meals. I ordered my food online and it said it would be ready in 4-9 minutes. I got there after roughly 10 minutes thinking that was enough time for everything to be done. I went inside to pick up my food and I noticed the restaurant was pretty busy. I asked for my food and was told there was a wait. While waiting, I looked around the restaurant and 90% of the restaurant was waiting for their food as well. Must order at kiosk. 2 out the 5 kiosks are broken but only one is labeled "broken" . So of course we ordered food from it and then had to wait for someone to come over and tell us to use a different one, when we asked for help. The drink machine is broken so there were 16 people waiting for an attendant to come over and get drinks from the back. There appear to be just two cooks. Worst Steak N' Shake I have ever been to. We waited 30 minutes for 2 burgers, 2 cheesy fries, and 2 shakes. After waiting we were told they don't have shakes. No shakes at Steak N' SHAKE?? The burgers were fine but the cheesy fries consisted of regular fries with a cup of hard cheese as shown in the picture. We stopped here while traveling. Even if you want to dine inside you have to order using a kiosk inside the door since there is no wait staff. It then asks if you would like to leave a tip! After ordering you stand there waiting for them to call your name. Not my preference on how to be served in a restaurant but that seems to be the way things are going. Of greater concern was the cook working the grille with his pants halfway down. Then when we got our soft drinks we saw that the clear plastic chute that dispenses ice has an actual GREEN RING of ALGAE at the top! The food we received was tasty enough but after viewing the cook's underwear and unsanitary soda fountain we really wonder what we may have eaten. I tried to report this place to the Richland County health department but their website apparently will not let you. Needless to say we will NEVER return to this Steak-n-Shake. read more

Despite the worrying 1.6 stars and negative reviews, I decided I wanted to give Steak 'n Shake a try for the first time. I got the steakburger with cheese and a birthday cake milkshake. Friendly service. Not to fast but that wasn't our girls fault. We ordered milkshakes at drive thru. They were made quickly and placed by window by the lady that made them and they just sat there! Our girl (maybe Latoya) was taking another order at drive thru, so they just sat there until our girl was finished taking the other order. Was it to hard for the other girl to see our girl was busy and just hand them out the window!!! Yes it was only a bout 3 or four minutes but just take two more steps. But I gave a 5 because our girl was so so polite and apologized for the milkshake's sitting there for a few minutes. Where should I start... Should these awful employees be worried about the safety and security of their jobs? Probably not. The managers here seem to like hiring employees with no social skills or any type of motivation to do anything besides talk behind the counters and be rude to customers. Sure, the shakes may be fine after the first sip (although you may be questioning whether these employees have slipped anthrax in your drink) until you've realized that the people in the drive through after 15 minutes of waiting still haven't returned your card. Sitting here writing this review after being told the drive through was closed and told to "have a good night" I'm wondering how this Steak and Shake stays open.
