Worst bike shot I have ever been to. They told me that it was "too much of a hassle" to deal with my full suspension bike so therefore he wouldn't even look at it to see if it was something simple, even though I asked him about 10 times (turns out it was a $5, 1 minute job which did not require even lifting the bike). I got a tune-up here about a month and a half ago. My bike really didn't need a tune-up but I had a flat and, since I am an almost daily bike commuter, said what the hell, why not. My bike then started to act worse than before the tune-up. The gears were a mess, and it was making noises. Then the chain broke. I brought it in and, because I didn't have a receipt, they didn't want to replace the chain. It's an old bike, and I said "OK, fine". Maybe it wasn't how they adjusted the gears. Then, on my way back from work yesterday, the crank fell off. I was on the Pulaski bridge, so I was safe, but I had to jump off. As I jumped off, I had to do sort of a forced mid-air split, tearing a huge gash in my work pants. I was SO PISSED. I decided to walk my bike to their store and give them a piece of my mind. Luckily for them, I mellowed out a bit by the time I got there, and pleaded my case for what happened. Without even blinking, the person who I met there was very apologetic, and offered to fix my bike right then and there. He put on a new rear sprocket and a new chainwheel, along with all of the requisite parts. He said to just stop by with my receipt of my tune-up, so he can follow up with whomever did the work. He also gave me a credit for the tune up as well. SO - at the end of the day, I am happy, as they repaired my bike without giving me any grief whatsoever, as well as giving me a store credit. That is the mark of an honest business. HOWEVER - they should impress upon their mechanics on doing a better job, as biking is dangerous in NYC and screwing up can mean someone getting hurt. My crank fell off, for god's sake - if you don't know how to work on a certain type of bike, or if there are problems that you see with the bike, let the owner know (there were problems with the original chainwheel, which was bent, and may have caused the chain to break initially). The initial tune-up was very half-assed, and I ripped a good pair of work pants because of their workmanship. SO - I would go there to get my bike fixed again. But I am going to be very wary and paranoid for the couple of days afterwards. read more

B's Bikes is unsafe. Their workers don't pay close attention to what they're doing, and shoddy work results. I bought my bike used from B's about 2 years ago. I had a few problems with flat tires immediately after I purchased the bike, and B's was very helpful and the workers were all nice. They even fixed some of the issues for free (but maybe those problems wouldn't have surfaced if they had done a proper tune-up before they sold it to me). Anyway, after about 6 months I had a problem with the front wheel--it wasn't true, so I took it into B's. They re-positioned the wheel and it seemed ok. Here's where the problems started. As I rode away to test it, about a block down the street, the wheel FELL OFF MY BIKE. The guy who helped me hadn't properly secured the wheel. After that, I avoided B's for a long time. There are other bike shops within a ten-minute ride, and I didn't want to risk it with B's. But one day I needed to have some simple work done, including adding a reflector to my back wheel. They took care of it, no problem....until about a week later, I'm going across the Pulaski Bridge, and in the middle there's a bit of a bump. I go over it and the reflector falls off and gets jammed in the wheel--stopping the wheel and making me go over the handlebars...if I had been going faster I would have ended up falling 30 feet into the soon-to-be-Superfunded Newtown Creek. Again, I avoided B's for a long time. Then last week, I needed a new headlight, and I figured they couldn't screw this one up. The headlight works great, but the worker who helped me out installed the headlight's clamp backwards, so it faced directly into my chest. This issue wasn't nearly as big a deal as the last two, but it's very clear to me that B's workers just don't pay close attention to what they're doing. I would avoid B's at all costs for anything that could impact your safety. read more

I love B's. I dropped by to pick up a set of toe clips, and the staff there is about as helpful and knowledgeable as it gets. They are very courteous and don't make assumptions or judgements about you and just help you get what you need to get riding. Later on in the day my girlfriend needed the seat raised on her bike and the post was badly stuck and we had no tools to work on it. We dropped by B's and one of the guys grabbed a wrench and fixed it right up, free of charge. He was very nice about the whole thing. I'll be going back here for sure, since they're now my lbs anyway, and I couldn't have asked for a better one! read more

Best bike shop hands down in Williamsburg. Great prices on new and used bikes. Awesome Fuji's that compare really favorably to more expensive brands. Used bikes there are sometimes 100 bucks less than at Recycle-a-Bike (totally fair prices there, a non profit, so you get the idea). Not the absolute cheapest place for repairs but only by a hair (cheapest might be the guy at Lorimer and Meeker). More important to me is the fact that they care about what they do. They always show you the broken part, what you could do to prevent it from happening again, and fix anything that they don't get right the first time. Repairs are done quickly, especially weekdays. I had two things done this week in separate trips in a day and a half while my bro's bike sat for THREE WEEKS in a fancier bike shop. I pretty much want to buy them all PBR every time I go there. Randomly decided this morning that I wanted a bike to help get around Brooklyn, I knew nothing about anything and haven't even been near a bike since 3rd grade. I decided to try a couple bike shops in east Williamsburg/Bushwick and after not finding anything below $400 I decided to make the trip out to Greenpoint. Joel spent over an hour helping me find my perfect bike, basically taught me everything I needed to know (including not laughing as I had to relearn how to ride) and was over all just a great guy. Would definitely come back because of the service I received. Will be recommending this place to everyone. Great place to go for both new and seasoned bikers!! Did a great job. I gave them a lemon and they made it ride-able for around $100. I tried to save money buying a bike on eBay and was sad when it arrived but they fixed it at reasonable costs. Ask for Ethan. And they will call you when your bike is done. Don't ask for updates. read more

I have visited B's Bikes a number of times since my friend moved to London and sold me his bike. Correction, sold my wife his bike for my birthday present. Lucky me! During the process of looking for the right bike, I went to B's for the first time. When trying to figure out how to find the right size frame that would fit in the way I wanted, I asked if they could help measure me. I was told in a pretty snotty way "this isn't a tailor." Not too cool. But they did redeem themselves on a few future occasions. A month or two after my first visit, I returned to ask about changing my bars and brake levers/cables. They were really nice and gave me a couple suggestions. Not only that but they called me when the bike was done...much earlier than anticipated! But, they lost my ticket when I came to pick up the bike, and didn't cut the bars tight enough as I had explicitly asked and shown to the dude who wrote down my order. But, they fixed the problem within 10-15 minutes and were nice enough to help me with a couple little touch-ups for free the next week when I wanted to tweak the bars a bit more. The customer service is pretty decent, but I think finding someone to actually listen to you (as opposed to half-listening) and relay the proper info to the people doing the work can be spotty. It depends on who's helping you, but most of the employees are quite friendly (especially for a hipster bike shop). It was a bit back and forth on the pendulum, but all in all B's Bikes is a solid 4 stars. read more

I am new to the neighborhood and parking is a bit of a nuisance, to put it lightly, so when i come home from work and need to grab something small to cook dinner i rather take my bike. So I just stopped in to purchase a helmet and a lock for my bike and the staff was friendly and helpful considering my "minimal" purchase. They carry high end stuff here so don't expect to leave without dropping some cash, but I'm sure the merchandise will last so I'm ok with a 100.00 investment that will last me a while. read more

Hands down, the best bike shop in North Williamsburg; possibly New York City. Every time I go to B's Bike I'm greeted with friendliness and professionalism. My go-to bike shop. I brought my bike here with a front derailleur issue and the guys here explained to me why the problem was occurring and what they were doing to fix it. I never feel like they are talking down to me even when there is a problem with my bike is something that I could have easily noticed and fixed myself. An employee named Ethan was super friendly and knowledgeable, and helped me through the whole process of picking out a bike. Very chill little shop run by a commune style group of hipsters. Reasonable prices, quick service. They know what they're doing.

They seem to do solid work, and most of the people who work there seem really friendly and knowledgable. I brought in a pretty nice road bike, which I hadn't ridden in a long time, to get the wheels trued, have the drivetrain and cables oiled, stuff like that. I was quoted $60 (plus a $30 tire I bought). When I got it back, they said the rear axle had been broken. I was a bit surprised at that, because I'd been riding it right up until I put it into storage and I hadn't noticed anything amiss. Anyway, I didn't question it, paid the extra $20 or so for the axle. But they also tossed out my Campagnolo quick-release (which was apparently bent?) and replaced it with a generic one. They didn't mention this to me at all -- I discovered when I got it home. That kind of rubbed me the wrong way. However one of the mechanics was SUPER COOL about it and the next day brought in a Campy one from his own stash as a replacement. (I offered to pay for it when I went in to pick it up but they didn't accept. If that dude reads this and wants to send me a message through here, I can definitely pay him back, by the way.) Anyhow, my 2¢: If someone brings in a bike in for a tuneup and high-end parts are discovered to be broken, it would just make sense to get the customer's OK before tossing them out. Had a great experience at this bike repair shop. Called a little before they opened to see what the timing was like. Said it would take 15 minutes to replace a tube and tire. Got to the shop and waited probably 7 minutes. The cost for the new tube, tire, and installation was about $29 - everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. The whole process was painless and very efficient - awesome job! read more

I live down the street from the this store and have been going ever since they first opened. The dudes are always friendly and helpful. You don't get any of the bike-scene pretension like other w'burg shops (bike doctor) and they aren't trying to scam you with crappy bikes (nyc bikes/spokes & strings). FWIW, I'm 41, a father to a young boy, and I'm a native NYer who's been riding these streets since there were no bike lanes, cabbies TRIED to run you off the street, and Kent Avenue was a gnarly, rutted trucking route. I ride almost every day, ride my kid to school and/or commute to work over the WB bridge. If you don't want to read the rest, here's the gist: No bullsh*t attitude Good prices - like $5 for adjusting brakes. Quick work. Attention to detail. I feel cared for as a customer. I have been going to B's for more than a year now. I don't take my bike anywhere else unless I have to. I've been to other shops, notably Bicycle Habitat, and I always feel somewhat ripped off, and the attitude, well SAVE IT - I've got plenty to throw back, I just don't want that from a shop. Here's what I love about B's: # It's not too clean - like a NY (brooklyn!) bike shop should be - slick is not their style # The guys all know their stuff, and though several of them look like straight fixie riders, there's *NO* stupid cooler-than-you attitude. It's not just with me - I've seen them interact with other people with all kinds of bikes and issues, and generally they are really decent with everyone. Not everyone has great bedside manner - whatever, the job gets done, done right, quickly, and at a reasonable price... # The price is just RIGHT at B's. Labor is totally reasonable and parts that just do the job are reasonable - or you can get better gear - they have most of what you need, or will order it and get it fast if you need. # I'll save the long-winded stories, but *twice* now they've noticed critical problems, that I failed to, which were endangering myself and my son and then they fixed them. One was that my front fork was *cracked* and rusting a bit. They found me an awesome, known-good used replacement. Another, totally scary, was that a bolt that holds my rear rack, onto which my son's kid seat attachs, was cracked clean off. The weight of my son on the back had been feeling "swishy" back there.... NO WONDER! They fixed this by DRILLING OUT the old bolt, re-boring and rethreading a new hole and screwing the whole thing back on with stainless steel bolts -- as I waited. I am eternally grateful. They also totally worked through an extended brake problem with me.... Always happy to work it out to the best conclusion. Happy happy camper with B's. B's Bikes did an amazing job on my bike, and tried to save me money everywhere. Absolutely zero sales pressure, did a perfect job, and gave great advice. They trued the front wheel, tightened up the brakes, adjusted the headset, adjusted the tire bearing, and now my bike is actually ride-able! They weren't happy with the fix on the headset (bike's fault for being old, not their's) and didn't charge me for it. All this with zero wait in about 20 minutes. They also caught some minor issues, like a loose screw on the gear shifting mechanism that was affecting the chain. I asked about replacing a tire, they said to wait on it, and basically passed on every other chance to up-sell. Although I didn't get a tune-up, I heard them tell another customer it was only $50, which is a great deal for the neighborhood (good luck finding one under $60). Will definitely be back for future repairs! read more

Good service, usually fast, but considering they are they only shop in the area this place gets crazy packed in the spring/summer. A larger space would be helpful at this point. Most of the staff are knowledgable and friendly, a couple of the guys are not and rude Read below. Although my experience here has overall been pretty good, there were 2 incidents worth mentioning: 1) One of the guys working here, who looked a little inexperienced, took about 15 minutes to install a bike chain. He was struggling to get the pin back in, FOR 15 MINUTES, and didn't really look like he knew what he was doing. I was watching him do install and should have said something because guess what? 30 miles into a distance ride on my road bike, the brand new chain broke, bent, and ripped my entire rear deraileur off. I was 30 miles from home in New Jersey, no car, no public transpo, and getting dark out. NOT GOOD. 2) When I returned to the bike shop the next day to report the problem, I talked to a different guy, told him what happened. He started yelling at me, telling me that he told me many times "my set-up" wasn't going to work. There was nothing wrong with my new set-up, and the chain breaking exactly where the inexperienced guy installed it had nothing to do with this configuration. And they never told me this setup was bad, HE WAS THE ONE WHO RECOMMENDED IT. Anyway, a different guy came by and said they would take care of it free of charge, and they did a good job. The first guy walked over later to apologize, which was commendable, but yelling at customers for things that are clearly not their fault doesn't sound like a good policy. Overall this is a good place and I do recommend going there, but the owner needs to tame a couple of the hipster douchebags that work there. Realize that sooner or later another place WILL open in the neighborhood, and disappointed customers will go elsewhere. read more

i'm a big fan of b's. besides being 4 blocks from my house, the boys that work there are awesome. since going in so often, i've befriended a few, so i might be a bit biased. before that, i like b's because of the lack of bike shop attitude. everyone has always been really helpful answering questions and even patient with me when going back because something wasn't completely to my liking. if there is something you need done, they will work with you and if something isn't up to your standard, it's a good place to speak up and they will help you get it done as you would like. read more

They have an excellent staff of dedicated cyclists and bike mechanics. Repairs are always timely and professional, if somewhat more expensive than at other neighborhood bike shops. Usually open from Noon to 7 or 8pm - they will call you promptly when repairs are done - often on the same day you dropped it off. read more

I bought a used bike at B's this afternoon. Maybe time will tell whether my experience with the bike remains so glowing but my immediate impression was excellent. The staff, including B himself, were happy to help me out as I tried out around 4 or 5 bikes in total until ultimately settling upon the first bike that I had tried that day. They were totally cool with helping me out when I returned to the store after checking some other bike places out too. As a final plus, someone helped me install all of the bells & whistles (almost literally) after I had made my purchase. read more

I was a little apprehensive, because I'm no expert and these guys kinda look like they might be snobby bike geeks, but they weren't! I'm updating my previous post to change from four to five stars. I just got back from B's.. I purchased a three-speed there (which I have since named Coco) not too long ago. Coco's been acting up so it was time to go back to the Bike Doctor - my brake line had the wrong part in it and kept popping out. They fixed it right away and charged me nothing, no questions asked, and I was back in business in no time! read more

Stopped in to get a new brake cable for my BMX bike. Although they don't carry that many BMX parts, they did have exactly what I needed. The guy that helped me even filed down my cable head for the perfect fit! (It was too big otherwise) I'm new to the area and knowing that there's a legit bike shop around the corner just made me like the area even more. $5 out the door and my bike is stopping effortlessly.
