Spent the weekend enjoying winter activities. We had a blast and would definitely recommend stopping by. We were looking for a smaller place for a first time skier that wouldn't need many harder trails. We booked everything for the weekend online. The process was easy and made it easy and quick to get tickets and rentals that we already paid for. I think they do charge an additional fee if you didn't prepay. The first night we arrived we did the snow tubing. It was a fun time. You need to get a tube at the bottom of the hill. Then there is a belt you stand on that will bring you to the top. You pay for and hour and a half that seems like a long time but it went quick because it was fun. We did a snowboarding lesson in the am and then spent some time skiing. We rented a board and changed to skis and it was a $15 fee to change. There is a cafeteria type area to eat. I did read another review that said people just dump their bags in chairs to save them. So that is what we did. We saved half a table for us then shared the other half. When lunch time came the tables filled up fast. Most kids would just sit in the floor if they needed. For a small mountain it was a great time. They had everything you need. We stayed at Chalet resort that was a 3 minute drive. read more

I coordinated a Cub Scout snow tubing outing at Bryce Resort and they were very easy to work with. The price was incredibly reasonable especially with the group discount, the drive was pleasant and check-in was very seamless. Everyone had a blast and I foresee us returning over and over again in the future. We had such a great experience. read more

We went to Bryce during the summer to experience their bike park. The resort is clean, staff was friendly and bike trails were well maintained. The only reason for the 4/5 is the resort allows hikers to take the ski lift which slows down the lift. Also, we rented bikes and safety gear. The Trek model bike rental was amazing. We were able to try a Trek Session and Trek Slash, both were fairly new models and in well condition. However, the Session had some excessive wearing on the tire outer tread, appeared cracked. We were so focused on having fun that we didn't bring it back to address that. I will say the more shocking thing was the safety gear which seemed extremely worn. Granted we got there late the only upper chest gear they had was shredded (arm sleeves had so many holes it looked the last person had a bear attack in it :-D ). Overall, my experience at Bryce Mountain Biking Park was amazing. It was the best mountain biking park of my life, but I have to give them four stars because while my mountain biking experience was splendid, my bike/ski lift experience was tragic. The first ski lift ride we took up the mountain took 45 minutes to deliver us to the top, going painstakingly slow and stopping over 10 times. One time it was especially frustrating because we were stopped on the lift about fifteen feet from the spot where you get off the lift. We later learned it was due to construction being done on the lift, but we were not given any discount, voucher, or partial refund, and no one explained the abnormally slow lift to us. Even when the lift wasn't stopping for construction, it was extremely slow--so slow that someone started biking up the hill and beat us to the top. What slowed down the ski lifts even more was the fact that the lift was stopped for all the sightseers so they could get off and on (taking the lift up and down for the views of the mountain). Stopping the lift for ALL the sightseers makes no sense considering all the mountain bikers get off and on the moving lift. In addition, there was construction (not posted on the website) on a couple of trails that made them rougher and more covered with leaves and sticks. Nevertheless, mountain biking at Bryce Park was my best mountain biking experience ever. I definitely recommend it--I just hope they can make the lift process more efficient. If you are looking for some of the best downhill mountain biking in the DC area, Bryce is the spot. It's not cheap, but it's high-quality and there are mountain biking trails for all levels, including 1 green, 4 blue trails, and 4 black trails. They rent out high-quality bikes and bike protection gear and also have a resort (and private condos) with a pool, sport courts, and more. Bryce Mountain Park is a great place to mountain bike, with trails featuring huge drops, tabletops, gap jumps, amazing berms, huge wooden features, amazing flow, and more! They also offer the opportunity to take mountain biking lessons, buy mountain gear, and of course ski during skiing season. For context of my photos and videos: We went on a Wednesday in between peak seasons, so it was not busy. We didn't ever have to wait more than a minute to get onto the lift. Some advice from our trip today, not all the trails were open at 11:30 am because they were still opening the bike park up and there was barely anyone there. As far as ski resorts go, Bryce Resort is a solid 3 star option for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. It's about 2 hours outside of Washington DC, nestled in the mountains with tons of lodging options nearby. Things I did enjoy about the resort: - the staff was super awesome the entire weekend. I'm a sucker for good customer service and everyone was great! - they accommodated my partner and I when I booked our ski lift tickets for the wrong day. - they have a 5 slopes that are ideal for beginner and intermediate snowboarders Things I didn't love so much: - they don't accept Apple pay or Google pay anywhere on the resort (cafeteria, copper kettle, Ski school, etc) - there are limited vegetarian or pescatarian food options in the cafeteria space or copper kettle - there weren't a ton of snowboard or ski racks to store boards when people popped in for a hot chocolate - my partner (who's an expert snowboarder) wished there were more black diamond options Overall, we had a great time visiting. This place is great for beginners! We've been to Massanutten twice before, but when Massanutten was closed at the end of the season due to lack of snow, we went to Bryce as a second choice. But now I wish it had been our first choice all season long! They have 2 magic carpets with no restrictions on who can use them - different from Massanutten which has 3 magic carpets, 2 of which are only for folks in lessons and the 3rd one is usually closed. So the first time we took the kids skiing at Massanutten, they had to deal with the scary ski lift instead of using a magic carpet. The second magic carpet is pretty decent too - it has a decent slope and is pretty long for a magic carpet. You can also pay a reduced beginner price if you only plan to use the magic carpets. And kids under age 6 are free! It's true there's only 2 ski lifts, but the resort was way less crowded than Massanutten, so it was a much more pleasant experience. Instead of parking half a mile away, we were able to get a decent parking spot. Instead of fighting people for a table at the lodge when we wanted to eat lunch, we were able to sit in Bryce's brand new lodge with plenty of tables. Next year, I plan to go to Bryce as my first choice! read more

It's nothing exciting, but I will give Bryce Resort a yes recommendation. A very family friendly place, with one of the best ski schools. As an experienced skier, I go here because it's less crowded and expensive than the bigger resorts. The pine trees are stunning, and all of the staff here are exceptional. Yet they are limited. There are no huge vertical drops, only two lifts, and the food is just a step above what the school cafeteria has. Again great men and women there too, but I think they could improve the quality a bit. $15 for a hotdog, awful fries, and a soda is nuts. I will give this higher marks for new skiers though. They also have all the rentals you'll need if starting out. Their school helped both my son and dad get into the sport. The slopes here are quite pedestrian after awhile, but they work for basic purposes. Their summer activities don't intrigue me. It's a good place for casual skiers, but if looking for adrenaline, there are better selections. read more

A smaller, yet nicer and less crowded ski resort. I chose them over the other ski places that got bought out by conglomerate Vail Resorts (which offers no discounts for Church groups-what so ever). Shame on them! This ski place was somewhat cheaper and offered as much as the bigger resorts do. Bryce was equal distanced from the previous used resorts and was less stressful. If you want a quick place to ski or snowboard than this is one of the closest place. Only 1:40 hours away from FAIRFAX, VA. Reservation is highly recommended due to COVID. The folks who were helping with shoes fitting and skies were super nice and friendly. I wish I could say the same about their cashiers though. Bryce is a 4 Seasons resort with golf and Ski facilities. An hour and a half drive West from Northern VA or Metropolitan DC so there's the convenience. I've been coming to Bryce since moving to the NE 10 years or so ago.It's a good alternative from Liberty Mountain which is in PA, also about an hour and a half away going North! Got here late today so 4-hr flex was a good option! The snow was well- groomed and packed under a bed of freshly fallen and machine made snow, just perfect fir threading down with skis. Probably not best for snowboarding in some areas pretty packed. I like it packed, as a skier, I don't get buried when it's more powdery. Ticket Line associates are always pleasant and getting my lift ticket today was a breeze. Not very busy today but it had enough friendly crowd mainly by homeowners after all this place is a private resort with folks with their timeshares or winter homes! Bryce, while not as magnanimous to WA State's mountains like Crystal or Snoqualmie where I frequented when I lived in the Northwest, is simply perfect for me! I've been spending a good bit of time recently out at Bryce. Some good friends of mine own a house out here - so I've been staying with them here and there. Bryce is awesome for a number of reasons - there are a number of activities to enjoy: skiing, grass skiing, snow boarding, zip line, tubing, euro-bungee, rock climbing wall, golf, miniature golf, fly fishing, and more. I'm not a skier or golfer, but there are plenty of folks enjoying these activities at Bryce. There are also hiking trails very close by in the George Washington National Forest. It's very quiet, so other than the noise from the occasional small private Aircraft landing at Sky Bryce Airport, it's ideal for chilling and relaxing, reading... You can also eat lunch and dinner at The Copper Kettle - the restaurant/bar/lounge at Bryce. I sat in the bar one evening and watched the Virginia Tech vs. Florida State football game on ESPN HD and drank a few beers. The Copper Kettle is a good place to drink - one of the bartenders - Ann - is friendly and knows how to make a lot of drinks. She makes a mean Bloody Mary! I'm looking forward to spending more time at Bryce! read more

What a DUMP! Clearly they haven't changed really anything about this place since... maybe the 70's? It's so very dirty and the staff is all very removed from any actual customer service that could be done. We actually just showed up to ski and play in the 'snow', which we did. We also purchased a snowboarding lesson for my daughter, which is the only thing saving this place from receiving one star from me. Her instructor was very kind and patient, and communicated with us throughout the lesson. Also ate at the restaurant, which was mediocre food at premium prices because that's the closest restaurant by a long shot. If you want to good to their concession stand, you can expect to pay $4 for a small bottle of water/soda, again, because they know they can charge that amount. All in all I'm certainly glad that we didn't pay for a room. read more

I wish I could rate lower than 1 star. Customer service check-in was great per usual but the rental staff ruined the entire experience of the trip. I waited 1 hour to get attended by rental staff that refused to service people other than white. The amount of waiting time was not due to long lines or limited staff,but due to refusal of service. I have never experienced this much level of racism in my entire life. I will not return again. Resorts stay are in bad condition and ski area is not well maintained. We didn't ski here, but we did do the snow tubing, and it was a lot of fun. There are several lanes if you want to race down, and then tug your tube on the moving sidewalk back up. There is also a bar facing the slopes as well as a restaurant. Night skiing available as well, and if you need to warm up, sit around the indoor wood fireplace in the snack area. Great experience! 2 hr 30 min drive from door to door from Alexandria VA. Teaching my 7 yo to ski and they have bunny slope and even a very beginner slope. It was very organized. They have you chose a time to pick up your rental gear and they have it ready to grab for you. They were very kind and knowledgeable. They don't have a connected hotel- you chose from local condos. I was dubious about that, but that was seamless and awesome. I stayed at Chalet High condos and it was excellent. Local eating options are very limited so the full kitchen is great. read more

This review is strictly for the snow tubing. I had planned a trip the Shenandoah region for months and called many times to confirm they would be open on New Years Day and what their hours would be. On two separate phone calls, I was told they would open at 10 for ticket sales. Well on New Years day we dragged our asses to the ticket booth (and believe me, it was a struggle making that happen) just to find out they weren't open until 11. I pride myself in doing my due diligence so to have confirmed two different times and given wrong information was annoying. We could have REALLY used that extra hour of sleep that morning. In the end, tubing ended up being a blast. We had no idea what to expect since the website doesn't give you much. There is a carpet lift that takes you up the hill (you just have to stand there, dont worry) to 3 separate snow lanes. It would have been nice to see some variance in each lane (maybe a tall one, a zig zag one, a deep one, etc) but they were all the same. Your ticket gets you an hour and 45 minutes of tubing. We did it for about an hour. You can switch it up and go tandem, we even linked up and did a 4 person trip. You can go backwards, forwards, spinning. After about an hour of trying all the combinations, we were over it. We then had lunch at the Copper Kettle lounge and that had a pretty decent menu (small beer selection though). Bryce is the smallest resort in Virginia, I believe, but overall it offered a fun adryelaline rush on New Years day that we would have not otherwise gotten laying in our beds all day. read more

This is a really lovely, small, family-friendly ski resort. We took our three year old for some private ski lessons and he had the time of his life. Great instructor, Horst - he really went above and beyond for our son. The resort is small and cozy, easy to keep an eye on kids, wasn't crowded on weekdays, and has such charm to it - something all the epic-owned corporate-y resorts are sorely lacking. Great for beginners - two practice areas at the base, one steeper than the other, a nice long green trail, and several blues with some black diamonds sprinkled in. Personally compared to other ski resort we thought food was reasonably priced. Bottom line - one of the friendliest ski resort in the DC Metro area. This is my first time at a ski resort so I don't have too much to compare to. This is a smaller place, which is totally fine for me as I have no skiing experience whatsoever and planned on spending most of the time on the bunny slope. We had to rent our skiing equipment and waiting in line to pay and obtain the rentals was a pretty slow process and took around 45 min or so (I also had to go back to get my skis adjusted which took another 30 min). The ski resort itself had a few greens, blues, and one black trail. There was only one open ski lift when we were there but we never waited more than a few minutes in line to get on. Overall it was a good experience but you might get bored if you're more experienced. read more

This place was amazing! Me and my boyfriend took a day trip to ski. Staff was very relaxed but super helpful. Food served here is pretty much cafeteria style but i thought everything tasted good. I had a cheese burger and curly fries and a hot dog which was really good. This place isn't very strict with structure so skiing is really at your own risk. If you're a beginner i would think twice about purchasing lift tickets. You can have fun just snowboarding or skiing down the small/medium hills or the Hill used for lessons. We were so bad the first time we were terrified to try the lift LOL and we had tickets. I would def. come back here. read more

We held our daughter's wedding at Bryce Resort on 10/12/19. The ceremony at the top offers a panoramic view of the foothills and Great North mountain. Lovely! Guests riding up the ski lift is a fun touch! The reception was held in the Shenandoah Center which is a beautiful building. Wedding and Events coordinator Jackie Moe took care of our preplanning, Rehearsal dinner, and facilitated the ceremony and reception events like clockwork. She was professional, knowledgeable, and a joy to work with! Our wedding party also took advantage of dining at The Copper Kettle. When I was fifteen, I worked as a ski instructor here and Bryce resort is a great place to learn how to ski. But if you are an experienced skiier, youd be better off going to Massanutten if looking to ski in the Shenandoah Valley. And as i said it is a great place to teach someone. To be honest though, Bryce is just a glorified hill. Its difficult slopes are medium, and there one diamond, is barely difficult (just narrow). Also, I dont really think that its worth the money (unless its your 1st time). As a resort though, there are numerous other activities one could take advantage of. The golf course is actually pretty good, and rather beautiful. It is also the only resort in VA that offers grass skiing and mtn. boarding. They have just recently installed a zip line tour that Im dying to try out. Other activities include: Horseback riding, swimming, tennis, mini golf, mountain tubing, chairlift rides, climbing wall and bungee. Theres also Lake Laura right around the corner, but it kinda sucks... no literally, my sister went swimming and I had to pull two leaches off of her afterward. Thank god it wasnt a Stand By Me moment. All-in-all Bryce is a pretty cool place, that offers numerous outdoor activities. If youre in the valley, its definitely a place to visit. read more

Great, convenient, friendly ski resort just a couple hours outside of DC. Very reasonable rates ($63 or less for a full day lift ticket) great private instructors, and a fantastic place to stash your kids for a few hours if you want to catch a few runs. The Copper Kettle is very reasonable with a great beer selection and the vibe, while nothing fancy, is warm and welcoming. The only thing I would mention is the runs are definitely geared towards the beginner in mind, but as an intermediate snowboarder who's a little out of practice-- the slopes were the perfect place for a tune up. Added bonus if you score yourself a private lesson. I didn't catch my guys name but he was super helpful in giving me some pointers on what I could improve on and tips to smooth out my ride. read more

Just left four days early from a summer resort vacation at RCI, The Pines at Bryce Mountain, in Basye, VA. Bryce Mountain facilities are OK. They are dated but functional. Not too many frills. There were not many tourists around, locals appear to be the primary users of the 18 hole golf course, the mountain bike runs and the "resort" facilities. The area is clean and pets are permitted. Do not come to this place expecting there to be much to do, besides mountain biking, playing golf or possibly fishing. There are clean, plain swimming pools on premises. You can hike, up the ski slopes or on the myriad of steep winding roads but you are not permitted to hike on the mountain bike trails (nor would I recommend it.) There is no local flavor, in that there is nothing to do at all. There is no main street to stroll down, no local shops to hunt for souvenirs. Locals are tolerant of outsiders, but not particularly welcoming. The dining establishments all provide pre-packaged, foods. Don't expect to find, locally produced hams, preserves, country breads or anything of the like in Basye. You also will not find local textiles, jewelry, nick-nacks, quilts, cheeses, or cured meats of any kind. For that matter, don't expect to find much of anything at all. In fact, although the room sports a fully stocked kitchen filled with vintage appliances from the 60s and 70s, make sure you buy food somewhere before driving in. The closest actual grocery store with real food is more than 15 miles away. The Wi-Fi did not work in our room, and although it had a DvD/TV, it had the wrong remote and we could not use the DvD player. Complaints to maintenance resulted in being told that we shouldn't come to the mountains to use "That Internet" and we must have lost our remote. In my opinion the only type of resort, RCI's "The Pines" at Bryce Mountain Ski Lodge in Basye, VA is, is a last resort for someone desperate to get out of town. read more

I don't know if if I would call this a four season resort, especially if you go in October. Haha We rented a house for the weekend, and it is beautiful there, but other than the resort amenities everything else is an hour away. Bryce seems comparable to Massanutten, but Massanutten offers so much more.... Bryce has only one restaurant we could find. In the fall, the zip line and bike parks are open, and there's golf and the scenic chair ride. Although I found info on Lake Laura I didn't see any info about fishing there, which was what my son wanted to do. It's nice for a weekend, but not sure I could entertain myself with resort amenities for a week. read more
