This place is located near Luray Caverns and endless locations to tub, kayaking, horseback riding, ATV, hike, bird watch, etc. The customer service and quick checkin was great the entire time we were there everyone was nice. We arrived on a Wednesday stayed for several days. We did the platform that was right near bathhouse and tucked away from everyone. We will definitely go back, everything was clean and rules weren't an issue everyone respected them. Midweek was great most RV's arrive on Friday but al were quiet. The ladies room was clean, men's room I heard wasn't very clean.

Near by what I believe was Barney's Glen

Love, Love, Love this campground! We just got home from what I hope will be many more stays with Outlanders. We were very fortunate that our family of 4 and a party of several families were the only ones camping in the main tent area - our time was quiet and peaceful. There were several RV's and a couple folks down by the river - but even so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We arrived too late to make use of the Camp Store, this was our first time here and we didn't take note of the hours. We stayed in an electric site, and the area is void of afternoon shade. If you have portable shade, bring it with you! The tent sites were situated on well manicured grass and were huge. Our littles loved the playground and I enjoyed the tall platform - I did some birdwatching and caught both the sunset and sunrise from it. My boys and I hiked one of the trails and found the safety rope down a certain slippery spot to be very fun. We accessed the beach in two places, both were fairly level and offered some water suitable for a 4 and 7 year old to splash around in. We highly recommend this campground. The only drawback was the 2pm check in time.

This is the nicest campground I've seen in a long time. Thanks for opening for us to check in without a reservation after the main season for all other campgrounds ended! We are so grateful!!!

Amazing! Tubing down the river, hiking trails, clean bathrooms and showers. This has just become our go to camp site when we visit Luray.

No big RVs or trailers (generators are allowed during designated hours, but we've never really found it a problem -- no RV, no generator for your A/C or DirecTV necessary). You get the feel of backcountry camping with the conveniences and amenities of a maintained campground. Plus friendly, down-to-earth, old hat co-campers. On one visit two adorable little boys were pulling a Radio Flyer around selling firewood collected on their family farm. Mellllt! There are only 31 sites here, so Lewis Mountain typically fills really early on weekends. Any weekend, not just busy ones. Your best bet is to show up Thursday evening/Friday morning (you're still lucky to get a site then...) or to come in the middle of the week. Lewis Mountain has a store, laundry facility, and showers on site. Laundry and showers are coin operated. There's a camp store for necessities. You can also rent one of a few cabins on the grounds. A great, private campground most easily accessed from 33 at the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station. Signs at the entrance stations will tell you whether the campground is full yet or not.

Tubing Review: We had an amazing time. Was is exhausting,…read moreyes. Worth it, yes! Owen was great. He was a great driving the stick shift bus back to the outfitters. It was nice being dropped off and picked up. We did have issues with our card online, but when I called in to book, Nancy was helpful. She got us all situated and sent an email to confirm. We filled out waivers online which was a breeze. We watched a quick safety video, picked up our lifevest and were on our way. The water was the perfect temp, and it was clear. Tips: bring snacks and water. You are out there 4-5 or longer hours. Especially if the water is low, which ours was. We used a waterproof bag and had no issues. We used a tube with a cup holder which was nice. I wore my life vest out of precaution even though I can swim, plus it made it comfortable for my to use it as a neck rest. I've noticed people mention in previous reviews that the bus was dirty ect. Um, you're in the woods. If you get picked up after many other groups the bus will be dirty as everyone is wet coming out of the water no matter what activity you choose. I would not own a brand spanking new vehicle for this type of environment and job. Used is best and saves money I'm sure. Wear a hat and sunglasses, put in that sunscreen. Bring a waterproof phone case/bag. You will have no service out there so put it on airplane mode and use it as a camera.

We were very surprised that so many of the sites are not level and the one we had been assigned had our new camper when we were trying to attempt to get it level started moving down the hill. (note-stay out of any site with 80 in it) Not something you want to happen to 35k of your hard earned cash! We did change sites, which came with a cost. The sites though are CRAZY in price! We get a senior discount with many places we go.....this is not one of them. We selected another site that looked fairly level, but if we ever have to do this again, we will be thinking about if the playground is nearby. While we love kids and have 3 of our own and two grandkids, when the pool closes, the play area is LOUD! Won't make that mistake again. This AM, we took the camp map out and circled acceptable sites for the next trip. The only problem with this is you are charged if you want to make sure you get the site you pick. I really take issue with that. It should not cost you a thing....this is souring me altogether from commercial parks. Pluses....they have great pools, nice inside areas and so forth. Cabanas and golf cart rentals are nice, but a tad high. I feel sites are tight for the $$$$'s. There are some cool places to go in the area to include Luray Caverns, wineries and distilleries. Deluxe tent sites are nice and there are activities. Minuses....I wish that they would build roofs over the picnic tables in all their sites, not just the tent areas. Prices, well I can stay in a hotel for $135 a night.....don't add in the nickle and dime stuff. Many of the sites are just not great....we talked to a gentleman with a diesel pusher and he said he was unhappy as well. At the price, you really do expect a little better. Make sure to join Yogi rewards before coming. At least you can add and get a free night here or there if you stay at other Yogis. It's nice, but very pricey. Unless we have our grandsons, I don't see us staying again.

The drive in from DC was not bad at all. When we arrived we were told we didn't need to pay since the government was shutdown. On your way up the mountain you'll notice that there are a ton of trails. We went straight to the Visitor Center and was happy there was someone inside to guide us to the trail we wanted to hike. The views outside of the visitor center are perfect for a photo opp. Right across the street was the Fox Hollow trail where you can do a little over a mile or a 4 mile hike. I was definitely shocked how much uphill there was on the 4 mile hike. The only thing keeping me going was the beautiful views. About midway we stumbled upon a great outlook where we were able to chill a little bit before heading down hill. Riding through the rest of the park was really nice. It wasn't too busy and the national park is huge so you can explore all day long. There's places where you can camp and picnic all throughout the park. And then afterwards you can check out a local winery or brewery in the area. Have funnn!!!

Next time I'd try to pick 429-432 to see the water. The Glamping tent has Ac, small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, double induction cooktop. Had typical place setting for six people. My bed was incredibly comfortable and I slept well for my entire state. The folks at the front desk, like Brian, were kind and generous. The entire facility appears to be brand new. The pool area is very nice, and my kids had a great time in there. The boys in our group enjoyed the bike track. There were always kids in the playground. We had a great time tubing down the river (have to judge conditions based on weather / rain). It was a 20 min float down the property for us, but one could make it to the "south river Shannon river boat launch" in a few hours. (About 5 miles, and water moved 1.25mph on our float) This campground is very big. I totally see why everybody is on golf carts. We used bicycles and it seemed to work just fine, besides going up the steep hill from our glamping site. There are not much shade at the sites, but many trees are planted.

We loved walking throughout the huge complex, the many options for entertainment and the scenic view deluxe back in sites. The spot that we stayed at (611) was much more quiet than the rest of the RV rows esp in the Strickler area which we were happy about. Despite really enjoying our experience there, there's a few things that need improvement. The number one thing is that the roads are gravel and everytime someone drives by a cloud of dust is kicked up. Someone drives by probably every 5 min even in the isolated corner we were in (cars/golf carts) so this is a very common occurrence. It's bad enough that our tow vehicle was covered the entire trip and we didn't want to eat outside. Who wants a cloud of dust hitting you while you're enjoying your dinner? This alone would be enough to make us hesitate going back. Number two is that it's the beginning of the season and the grass was more like dirt with some grass. (Check out the bonfire photo) I could imagine it won't get any better this summer. Number three is non existent WiFi. You will not, even with the best booster, get access to WiFi reliably or at all while you're here. Overall with all of the above, and the price per night in consideration, we do recommend the Luray RV Resort. Just know what you are getting yourselves into with the above information and you'll have a pleasant experience

As an FYI, every "order" of course came with a life jacket. The river itself was calm and effortless, for the most part. I think our experience was a little over 3.5 hours.
