This is now a Spacious Skies. The good: beautiful sunset view from the pergola pull thru sites (#28). Immaculate bathrooms and grounds. Quiet. Close to the National Park. The bad: the flies. I've never experienced anything like this. It turns out the campground is surrounded by active farmland. The farmer sprays manure on the cornfield. This created a plague of flies. I suggest avoiding the campground during peak corn season and/or picking a campsite in the center of the grounds as far away from the fields as possible. It was unbearable and we had to purchase a net for our canopy and that still didn't keep them out. read more

Had a pergola pull thru site. Great view!! Bugs weren't bad although others have said they have been there in the summer when bugs were really Bad. Easter treats were shared with the campground and we woke up to plastic filled eggs all over in front of our campground on Easter morning. Every site had them! Close to national park and luray caverns. Kids enjoyed seeing the cows along the fence line. The name has Changed to spacious skies. In August, I stayed in a yurt (permanent tent with a bathroom) here. It was so clean and seemed brand new. Our stay included dishes, tools for cooking, grilling, and washing dishes. It was a quiet, calm campground and had a lovely view for our fire pit. It was fun having goats in the field next to us. I wish they had more events and the store was open, but tis the time of Covid. Staying in a yurt was on our family bucket list and we really enjoyed it. The bed was comfortable, the tent was spacious enough for 2 cots and our luggage, and the skylight was cool to have above us as we slept. I would definitely return. read more

I'll start off by saying that this campsite is beautiful, and Pat at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The facilities and grounds are also kept clean, which is a major plus. It was Labor Day weekend, so a lot of what I'm about to say might not be a concern during other times of the year when there are fewer campers. Now for the deltas- the organization/security here could use improvement. When we arrived at our campsite, there was someone already set up on it. They must've seen me staring at the site, because they promptly began to move their tent and supplies to another location in the middle of the lawn, letting us know that they never purchased a spot to begin with. There was then a different person parked in our spot that was clearly labeled "tent 6." Someone working at KOA had to ask them to move their car for us. Bathrooms were the biggest problem. For all of the campers, maybe 75+ of us, there were two bathrooms - one male, one female. The bathrooms shared a space with the showers, so I had to check back 5 times at in the evening before I could finally use the bathroom. I didn't even bother showering at that point because it had gotten so late. All in all, I would return on a normal weekend, but never for a holiday. read more

This is probably the nicest, best maintained KOA we've booked. The sites are large, the scenery beautiful. Easy access to Shenandoah Natl Park and the town of Luray. The dog park is awesome! Why 4 stars? Three negatives. 1. When the wind died down the overwhelming smell of cow manure/urine was unbearable. Not unpleasant, unbearable. You couldn't be outside or open windows inside. 2. The wifi was unusable, even after most of the guests left we could not get a usable connection. 3. Two of the four washers were out of order when we were there. This was a relatively minor inconvenience but nevertheless affects the rating. It was hot but the pool does not open until May 21. I wish they had sped that up to give some respite from the heat. As much as I really loved the sites and grounds I probably won't return because of the manure. read more

I camped here for two nights at one of the tent sites and had a blast. The tent sites are right next to a big, fenced-in farm with chickens, llamas, cows and sheep. I took a ton of photos and enjoyed seeing the animals grazing next to our campsite. The campsite included a gravel pad for the tent, a fire pit, a picnic table with a canopy over it for shade, an electrical outlet and a bright lamp on the canopy for nighttime. You can buy firewood at the camp store for $5, but bring plenty of fire starter materials, because the grounds are so meticulously kept that I couldn't find any stray sticks around to use for kindling. The amenities included a nice-sized pool and very clean bathrooms with showers. When I used the shower, there were toiletries in there; I am not sure if these were provided by the KOA or if I just used someone else's stuff... ;) This campground was a beautiful place to spend our weekend. We were very close to all of the attractions we wanted to see, such as the Luray Caverns, Luray Zoo and Mimslyn Inn. The staff are very friendly as well, I highly recommend staying here if you are into site camping or RVing. read more

This is a beautifully maintained campground just outside of Luray. Lots of attention to detail: Extra features on most sites like concrete pads with adirondack chairs, fire pits, beach umbrellas. Most sites have a great view of the surrounding farmland or large field in the middle of the park. Some sites even had pergolas that overlook the valley below. All RV sites are full hookup; some pull through, some back in. Plenty of space between sites and for big rigs. Beautifully landscaped with flowers, shrubs and ornamental grasses everywhere. Pools looked nice, but we didn't have time to use them. They have two yurts to rent and a tenting area. The bath house in the tent area has a beautiful, covered dish washing station with a microwave. Bath house was a real treat. Squeaky clean and smelled nice. Brightly lit and well-ventilated (no AC). The only thing they could improve would be to add Cable TV. We appreciated the quiet atmosphere at this campground. Doesn't have all the organized kid activities like the Jellystone Park nearby, but we don't travel with young kids anymore and prefer not to pay the high nightly rate when we don't use those services anymore. read more

We decided to stay here because they have yurts. Our kids have always wanted to stay in one of these. The yurt was nicer than some hotels I've stayed in. I packed camping gear because I figured we needed some supplies. I ended up leaving it all in the truck. They provided everything. Imagine staying in a room at a Marriott but instead of walls it's a tent. The campground was very well kept it felt like the yurt and campground were brand new and we were the first people to visit. read more

Beautiful KOA park located in the rolling hills just outside of Luray. The park has the standard amenities of showers, bathrooms and laundry. The pool area was nice and a popular hang out spot for the guests. The park is easy to access from the highways and has a wide selection of site options. I've never been camping before, so true campers might call me an amateur. They have two cabins here and our family rented both. Ours was the smaller one, sleeps four. The larger one sleeps six. The interiors seem to be totally Ikea - very clean, streamlined, modern. We had a queen bed in it's own bedroom and a futon couch in the kitchen/living area. Our bathroom had a roll-in shower stall with seat. The larger cabin has a traditional tub/shower combo. The larger cabin has a deck with a gas grill, the smaller cabin has a large concrete patio with patio table/umbrella/4 chairs and gas grill. Both cabins have an additional paver pad with fire pits and 2 adirondack chairs. read more

We booked a cabin at this KOA for a 3 night stay for our family of 3. We loved the campground, it is very well kept and is beautiful when the weather is nice! The cabin was more than we could have asked for, clean, well stocked, and a great layout for traveling with a toddler. Only complaint is that the ants could find any amount of food no matter where we tried to hide it. Great place to stay with your family! read more

We love it here it's our go to place for a quiet weekend. Campsites are clean, spacious and are level. They don't stack campsites right on top of each other like other places, They actually have a nice front yard if you will. I like having the cattle and animals around as it adds to the Country-ness and rural setting. The pool is great during the summer and the dog park is completely shaded. The patio sites come with two chairs and a nice fire ring. I can't say enough about it here, only problem is weak WiFi but I'm not here to be on the internet all day playing games so that's no big deal. read more

I'd I could rate a zero I would. Never actually got to stay. Paid 86.03 for a two person two night stay to arrive late like 2 am. On the way up there (I live about 4 hours away) I get the call my only living grandparent (only one I ever met) passed away. So I turn around and drive four hours home. The next morning I call explain what happened and asked if they can refund either both nights or just the second night given the circumstances. A lady very curtly tells me that I should have been aware of their 48hour cancellation policy and even though when I paid I only needed to pay 45 for a deposit since I went ahead and paid the whole thing they won't refund any of it. To make a long story short only pay the deposit because if you pay for the whole stay in advance and something happens they keep it all. Will never stay here nor at any koa resort as long as I live. read more

We are tent camping. There is no shade in the tenting area. Also, the wifi hasn't worked the whole time we've been here. The tenting area only has one bathroom; it's clean but I don't know what they do when there are a bunch of people here. They do keep the place clean, and there are a ton of things to do around this area. read more

Can say pool was very nice for my kids. But the flies just so bad at our pull through site. Never had an issue with this but here flies sweat bees was so bad here. The ice cream snack shop only open on weekends for a few hours. Everyone in the pool thought that really stunk. My kids thought that was very lame. Never got to see it open. The place kept pretty nice other than bad flies. But there is no store here. Hardly any in town. Have to pay five bucks to play pool. Ridiculous after the cost of sites. They have seems stricter rules. I along with my children. were not impressed. The sites are bigger but our RV breaker box started smoking after a storm here. I just felt like their was nothing to do or eat in this town. The Italian place that delivered to site was a joke. Terrible food and service. The order was all wrong and they totally forgot half of the order and got the other half all wrong. My kids and I will not be back. The pool nice. The caverns and mountain was nice but not much else. Every restaurant was closed on Tuesday too. We could not wait to leave this place esp due to flies The whole experience stressed my family. Get some pest control people in here and fix this. My sons girlfriend got stung and had an allergic reaction to a sting. My poor boyfriend tried to arrange this as are special annual getaway. Despite the camouflaged physical look of nicer sites It. The many little and big things are wrong here. Hate to say this as office staff was nice but was worse camping stay ever. read more

The campground is immaculate and very well maintained. The sites are quite large compared to other KOAs we've visited. The pool is very clean as well. I do have two issues with this campground however. First, and my biggest, is the bathrooms. The men's room walls around the toilets are very low and provide zero privacy. How much more could it have cost to extend the walls to the ceiling? Next, the store onsite has essentially nothing except ice, wood and a few small items. It's a really nice campground but we will likely not stay here again because of the toilet issue. read more

By far the prettiest campground we have stayed at so far!! The sites are spacious and private. Lots of open area in and around the campsites. Bathrooms though they weren't new we're very clean. The pool is beautiful. The only drawback was we were here in a Thursday night and it was only open until 7:00. Fridays it is open until 8. We would come back in a heartbeat!!! read more

Not a bad location. A wee bit expensive for the pull in sites (gravel & grass not much else but full hook up) even with military discount. The lady at check in was, shall we say grumpy. Only game in town if you're going to the caverns and you don't want to stay at silly city with all the little kids running amok and unsupervised. Also, be advised train runs nearby and it blows its horn in the middle of the night. read more

Being less than 4 miles from the town and Luray Caverns was convenient, and being on the top of the hill with mountain views was nice. Even though it was surrounded by cow pastures, we did not detect unpleasant odors. The restrooms were clean but freezing (a small heater was plugged into the wall the next morning in the women's restroom, but nothing when we took our showers the night before and the men's room never had a heater of any kind.) The roads and pads were graveled and somewhat flat. The lanes are almost too narrow for a 40-ft rig. What was NOT good was that the sewer top was not glued in at the site (thankfully there was no mishap), and there was NO WATER. Yes, it was unusually cold temperatures for the end of March, but no one came to see us or left us a note that they had turned the water off. There was no one in the office the entire time we were there. We called to ask about where we could get water before leaving, but even then there was no apology or explanation, just a "go out behind the bath house to fill up." We might try this place again in the summertime to see if it is managed any differently, but the Luray KOA was definitely below par compared to other KOA campgrounds we have visited. read more

Nice dog park area and did not use the pool but it seemed very nice. Will be back if we are in the area. Only complaint was the wifi almost non existent. Very slow. Almost unusable. The only negative i can say is the bathroom near tent sites doesnt have a wall seperating shower from toilet so your stuck waiting for early showerers when you wake up and natures calling. Pretty campground in a great location for sight seeing the Shenandoah Valley. We had a pull-out site (They call it a pull through). Not a real problem, truthfully for our 40' fifth wheel and truck but a little snug. The view was nice for us (a farm field) but some may not appreciate that as much. Some of the other pull out sites faced the green field within the campground which is nice also. Nicely done landscaping in parts of the park. We travel primarily during the week so the campgrounds are not typically full or have activities available Sun-Thurs. The entrance road is a little snug but doable with care. We would stay here again if visiting the area. read more

There are also RV spots that back up to the field which I would pick next time if you plan to hang out with family late. Front desk was friendly. Had a nice pool but it was too early so not open yet. This KOA is a beautiful campground. We tented here for a weekend in August and were very pleased with our choice. They have a new bathhouse for the tenters and a camp kitchen, both are kept very clean. They also have a new swimming pool and a smaller pool for the kids. They also have 2 yerts! Very pet friendly. We live in a "historic country" area of northern VA, although, on the edge of the hustle & bustle of the suburbs. After enjoying a few nights at Country Waye Luray in our Motor Home, we contracted a spot for the entire season and bought a new travel trailer to leave there. We did not go there for the purpose of finding a getaway spot, our decision to do so was entirely based on the beauty, cleanliness, & incredible views of this KOA RV resort. Small enough to be peaceful and quite, yet large enough for two new pools that are rarely busy, a fenced dog park, & country roads for bike rides, this is the perfect place for getaways from anywhere around DC. The mountain views are spectacular, there are farms one all 3 sides where you will delightfully watch the sheep & baby lambs play. The resort has several deluxe cabin rentals and a beautiful new Yurt, if you want a special treat, try the Yurt. The wonderful, friendly people that work there; Peter, Jeff, Jennifer, Catherine and all the others, are another bonus, they do their very best to insure an enjoyable stay. If you like being minutes from the Shenandoah River, enjoy peace & quiet, meticulous grounds, grand views, and genuine nice hosts, this is the place for you! read more

This is a real nice campground. We stayed 7/3/2014 to 7/6/2004. They have a great dog run. The campground was well maintained and very clean. This being said the wifi is hit or miss not a volume setup, the proximity to livestock leaves a lot to be desired, the entire campground was over run with flies our entire stay. And in reading the reviews on the KOA website this has been a problem that has been known for sometime. I would probably stay at other campgrounds in the area if I travel that way again. read more
