We were looking for a smaller place for a first time skier that wouldn't need many harder trails. We booked everything for the weekend online. The process was easy and made it easy and quick to get tickets and rentals that we already paid for. I think they do charge an additional fee if you didn't prepay. The first night we arrived we did the snow tubing. It was a fun time. You need to get a tube at the bottom of the hill. Then there is a belt you stand on that will bring you to the top. You pay for and hour and a half that seems like a long time but it went quick because it was fun. We did a snowboarding lesson in the am and then spent some time skiing. We rented a board and changed to skis and it was a $15 fee to change. There is a cafeteria type area to eat. I did read another review that said people just dump their bags in chairs to save them. So that is what we did. We saved half a table for us then shared the other half. When lunch time came the tables filled up fast. Most kids would just sit in the floor if they needed. For a small mountain it was a great time. They had everything you need. We stayed at Chalet resort that was a 3 minute drive.

Everyone had a blast and I foresee us returning over and over again in the future. We had such a great experience.

The hot water heater hadn't been flushed in a long time (maybe never). The hot water had some sediment and smelled of Sulphur. *There are only a few restaurants within 5 miles (15-20 minutes) and none of them are much of anything. *The 3 floor unit only has one hvac unit. The ground floor and the upper floor were nice and warm. Downstairs was notably cooler. The email we received from the property prior to arrival suggested that they only supply a limited amount of blankets. We found that what they had available was plenty sufficient for January. *Lighting in the rental unit could be improved. *They have an electric heater fireplace in the living on the ground floor but it is enclosed and therefore provides no heat.

I held a memorial for my ex-husband, attended by our daughters, their families and close friends who were neighbors of ours for years when our kids were young. Each of the 5 upstairs bedrooms accommodates 2 guests (more if futons added) and has a private bathroom and door to the balcony. The kitchen is amazing. You can bring in food or cook. There are also large living and dining rooms. You can walk on paths on the 175 acres and enjoy the 2 Japanese oak baths on the lower level. I couldn't have found a nicer place to share memories and spend time with those close to me and my ex. We sang, cried, enjoyed the baths and shared meals and memories.

They are now a vacation house rental; only one group can occupy the house at a time. We were a group of four who visited Pembroke Springs Retreat in the middle of August. Because we were the only group in the house, we took full advantage of the baths. There's nothing more relaxing than a full soak in the warm, mineral-rich waters. They offer one meal per day if you rent all five rooms; we only rented three rooms. But that gave us access to their amazing kitchen. They have fresh mountain water which tasted smoother than any city water and made incredible green tea and coffee. On checking in, we spoke to Lisa over the phone who was very helpful and friendly. Because of COVID, everything was over the phone. But Lisa answered any questions we had immediately. We were also happy to meet some of the dogs. :D

Also very disappointed that the duplex unit had no wi-fi! We are so used to having it for the last 20+ years of traveling that we were shocked. Wi-fi available at cost but resort manual stated it was slow and limited. Also had no wireless service. Had to drive 20 minutes away to get wireless signal. Checking in was ok, with one exception - I was asked to fill out a form with name & address (which was provided via our RCI reservation), plus the usual car information. Then I was asked to fill out my credit card information, including cc #, cc name, exp date and code! I have NEVER been asked for this! Usually resort just runs a hold amount on my credit card. Now on paper they have all someone needs to take money or even steal my identity! I was told the info was shredded after we left but will monitor activity closely. Unit was a duplex and surprisingly larger and better equipped than we thought. Huge living room/dining room combo with a pull down Murphy bed. Plus small bedroom & bathroom with small shower downstairs. A much larger loft bedroom and bathroom with a Jacuzzi & a Sauna!!! I slept upstairs after the first night because we were used to our King bed and in the Queen bed we kept bumping into each other. Tried the Jacuzzi but two issues. One, the on/off switch was on other side of Sauna door about 5 feet from Jacuzzi! The tub had weak power and with the remote switch, you had to leave the tub to switch it off. This meant I had to turn the water on before I left so that the water displaced by my standing up was replaced so jets did not spray out of tub. Took me awhile to get the sauna to work. No instructions, although the upstairs bedside table had instructions for 3 different alarm clocks, but none were present. Finally office told me of a reset button underneath the Sauna and that worked. Really enjoyed it, a little st a time. Although the kitchen was well equipped, better than most, there was no blender (for our meal replacement protein shakes) and no hair dryer. I asked and was provided a hair dryer but no blender available. Lots of activities around within 30-45 minutes so plenty to do.

The website has a whole page talking about how the Inn at Vaucluse Spring has "the best breakfast in Virginia." My wife saw this and it was a major reason she asked me to make a reservation. But I didn't know this when I made the reservation and hadn't seen the website. So when I called and the owner told me that the breakfast would be delivered in the room, I didn't think think anything of it. As it turned out, the "breakfast" was a collection of thoroughly mediocre food picked up at the grocery store--yogurt, bagels, orange juice. The yogurt wasn't event especially fancy. As a result, my wife was disappointed. The host did offer to give us a discount on our stay to compensate for the disappointing breakfast. But he refuses to change the misleading information on his website. To this day, the website brags, falsely, about having "the best breakfast in Virginia," creating the likelihood that other customers will be misled in the future. I could understand if it was still May 2020 and they just hadn't had time to make the change. But the pandemic has been underway for almost a year at this point. It could easily go for another year. And I think it's unethical for a business to knowingly publish inaccurate information on its website.

There wasn't a speck of dust anywhere, no joke, it was spotless, even under the bed was dust free, attention to detail like this really impressed us. Aside from the delicious food, the property is very tranquil and relaxing. They are located on over 100 acres and have several different properties to choose for your stay, we stayed in the manor house and we're glad we did. The manor house has a back porch with rocking chairs, it was perfect to sip lemonade and eat cookies (they offer mid-afternoon snacks too). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend getaway in Virginia (its about an hour and 20 minutes outside DC area).
