    Homemade cake waiting for us
    Nola M.

The criteria that matters most to me are cleanliness and quality. Greg and Bryce provide both in spades. The place is as clean as a new home, despite being over a century old. There are no dirty corners, no mustiness (as experienced in older buildings), no cobwebs. They have put a high degree of consideration in every detail. The bed and pillows are comfortable and seem new to me. Each room has a quiet heater/cooler. There was a homemade chocolate cake waiting for us when we arrived!! Yep. It was good. In fact I'm going for another slice. The breakfast is all hand made with locally sourced foods. Bryce cooked a light custardy quiche alongside fried potatoes he grated himself. There was a berry yogurt parfait and fresh OJ. The setting is beautiful. We are on a hill overlooking the surrounding community. Lots of greenery. Rolling hills in the distance. A lovely breeze outside. You can see every star in the sky. We've stayed in many B&Bs before. I rank Mayneview at the top of the list. (Even better that the Churchill in New Zealand which had an adjoining pub).

Our stay was amazing!! Bryce and Greg were so accommodating and hospitable. I would love to come visit again. I highly recommend this place for a romantic getaway. We stayed in the cottage behind the main house and loved it. Breakfast was delicious we were full all day from the breakfast. The cottage was very clean and we felt confident in the cleanliness.

What a great stay! The inn is beautifully ornate and very clean with hand sanitizer provided throughout the B&B. View is absolutely stunning, the bed & bathroom were wonderful, breakfast was delicious (my dietary restrictions accommodated!!), and owners super helpful with recommendations on hikes / local restaurants. We really enjoyed our nightly time by the big fire pit chatting with the other guests and appreciated all the thoughtful touches like s'mores kits for the fire, desserts, water bottles, and toiletries that aren't usually provided. My friend had never stayed in a B&B before, and now she's hooked!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We had a wonderful experience here for our anniversary…read more First, the house itself is incredibly beautiful and clearly well taken care of. They had a common living room for the guests to relax in which had books and board games. There was also an area for 24/7 water, coffee, and tea, and in the afternoon, a baked treat was available. We saw chocolate chip cookies and apple cider donuts. Bonus: There was a mini fridge with seltzer water. Second, we booked the Naturalist for the weekend and it was a wonderful room. The sheets were so soft and comforting. The bathroom was a bit small but had modern fixtures. I don't know what the shower head was, but it was super nice LOL. I could've stood in there forever. Their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash smelled lovely as well. They provide a little lotion tube. So, I'd recommend bringing your own. Third, the breakfast was amazing. Shannon and Joe did a wonderful job making the dining experience wonderful. I really loved Shannon's french toast. Joe was also very attentive to the guests. Overall, it was such a wonderful experience. I would love to visit again someday. The location is also quite convenient. You are walking distance away from many cafes, stores, and restaurants. It was definitely a wonderful weekend to recharge. Highly recommend and grateful that we could spend our anniversary here

    ## Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast: A Perfect Shenandoah Valley Getaway (5 stars)…read more **A Dreamy Escape with Spectacular Views and Unforgettable Hospitality** My recent stay at Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast was an absolute delight. Nestled amidst rolling hills just outside of Luray, the location offered stunning panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Finding the B&B was a breeze, and upon arrival, I was immediately charmed by the property's historic character, perfectly complemented by modern amenities. **Comfort and Convenience** The room itself was a haven of comfort. The bed was incredibly inviting, and the ensuite bathroom provided everything I needed. Piney Hill truly goes the extra mile with thoughtful touches - from having spare toiletries on hand (lifesaver alert for that forgotten floss!) to individual climate control - ensuring a perfectly relaxing stay. **The Heart of Piney Hill: Hank, Wiley, and Bob** However, the heart and soul of Piney Hill lie with the wonderful innkeepers, Hank and Wiley. Their warm hospitality and engaging conversation made each breakfast a highlight. Their stories and kindness were truly heartwarming, and I found myself looking forward to these morning chats just as much as exploring the Shenandoah National Park nearby. **Breakfast Fit for Royalty** Speaking of breakfast, it was without a doubt the best food I had on my entire trip. From the melt-in-your-mouth sticky buns to the heavenly French toast and the savory sage-egg-sausage bake, each morning was a culinary delight. **A Must-Stay for Shenandoah Valley Travelers** Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a base to explore the national park, or simply a place to unwind amidst breathtaking scenery, Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast is the perfect choice. I can't recommend them enough! In fact, if you're staying nearby and can't swing a stay, I highly recommend checking out their take-out bakery. **A Fond Farewell (and a Scratch for Bob!)** Thank you, Hank and Wiley, for making my stay so special. And please give Bob the dog an extra scratch on the head for me! I can't wait to return to the Shenandoah Valley and Piney Hill in the future.

I had no idea what to expect when I set out late on a Friday evening from Washington, DC to Luray,…read moreVA. My biggest question was where was Luray, VA. As it turned out, Luray is located in Northern Virginia, about 80 miles South of DC in a quaint little town nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Arriving around 10pm, I didn't know how beautiful until the next morning when I woke up to the most awesome sunrise and gentle mountain ranges. The "Inn" is actually one of several huge homes or "villa's" on the top of a hill on 5 acres of beautifully manicured land, something else I discovered the next morning. Upon arriving, I drove up the hill to Villa #1 and was greeted warmly by the owner Darryl Haley, a 6'6, 325-pound gentle giant of a man. As it turns out Haley is a former New England Patriots Offensive Lineman, Ironman Triathlete, and Corporate Fitness Trainer, with a B.S. degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Utah, a degree in Computer Science from George Washington University, I was given a tour of the 5-bedroom villa each with its own bathroom and jacuzzi tub, and settled in a room on the corner with an Eastern view towards the mountains and we agreed that breakfast would be served the next morning at 10AM.. Fortunately for me, I was the only guest in the entire villa so I was able to wake up to a wonderful sunrise, go back to sleep, shower, watch television, roam around the spacious home at my leisure and enjoy the views all before 10AM. At around 9:30am I received a call from Darryl inviting me to come up to the main house for breakfast that included eggs, turkey bacon, orange juice, cinnamon pancakes topped with strawberries and walnuts, and a delicious spicy hashbrown invention called a "Darryl." Normally after eating that much food I'd want to go back to sleep, but I felt energized and ready to go. I spent the next hour talking to Darryl about his career as an athlete in the NFL, and how much he loves cooking, hosting guests, and how it all fits into the theme of The Darryl Haley Bed and Breakfast, "where romance, fun and fitness are the main activities." After he cleaned up the kitchen, I was given a tour of the the main house, the grounds, a cottage tucked away at the bottom of a hill, and the gazebo which overlooks a dairy farm and has mountain views in every direction. We eventually ended up in a spacious garage that had been converted into a fitness and recreation center where I was coaxed into a friendly game of ping pong which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was then given a tour of the city which has plenty of bike and jogging trails, a lake for fishing or canoeing, as well as parks, hiking trails, antique shops, restaurants and wineries. The people are warm and friendly, and the area has become a magnet for artists, writers, and others looking for a retreat from the pace of big city life. In one area of the town there is a sobering reminder of its confederate past and an acknowledge how far this city of 5,000 has come. Whether its a personal or romantic getaway, a family, women's, men's or group retreat, this is a relaxing place to come to and you'll feel at home. The accommodations include unlimited access to cozy areas for conversation, relaxing or reading and comfortable and casual lounge areas to socialize and unwind. The beautiful and manicured grounds are ideal for outdoor events or simple sanctuary. The immediate area offers vineyards tours, wine tasting, hiking, cycling, kayaking as well as many other outdoor activities and antique shopping. While it was very cold out and the cabin we booked's heat was out, the staff were all incredibly friendly and jumped to make our experience amazing. As soon as we reported the heat not working, maintenance was sent down and a portable heater was put in. The cabin was very clean and cozy. The bed was comfortable and you couldn't hear anything from outside. It was so peaceful. The food was also amazing! Our first night we enjoyed the ribeye special (which was cooked to a perfect medium rare), venison stroganoff and a glass of the night sky (Shenandoah Cabernet Franc). We liked the wine so much we picked up a bottle from the shop. For breakfast before hiking, we chose the blackberry French toast and Stoney man breakfast along with coffee that was never allowed to be low. This was all so good we ordered the same the next morning along with an orange juice to go. For our second night, we had the short ribs, forrester pasta, blackberry lemonades and a blackberry cobbler that we had brought out in a box to save for later. On that second night, there was a bit of a back wait to be seated, but we think the staff handled it very well and as efficiently as possible. Overall, even with a few hiccups, we didn't have any complaints and are considering to make this a tradition for our anniversary.
