Nice hotel. people were polite and helpful. First hotel that ive stayed at in over 2 decades that put a 100 security hold on my card. "just in case you wreck the room". I realize they are required to say this by the hotel. but kind of insulting and im 53 with bad shoulders and arthritis in my hips. only thing wrecked is me. Room was nice. bed was very comfy. room was clean. I realize the place is almost 100 years old but some areas need some attention. bad paint on the window (outside) bad plaster job in my bathroom. REALLY didnt appreciate the landscaper running weed Wacker at 6am outside my window. dont expect to ever be in luray again. but i would stay there again. especially seeing the other hotels availed. speak easy restaurant was nice. good food. breakfast in the dining room was really good. read more

I think its one of the nicest hotel in the area . But lower your expectation. It was ok for a day trip .

An older hotel with some southern influence. Dinner was ok at the Speak Easy restaurant last evening. Pool isn't filled (May 1) yet but hot tub appears to be functioning, but it isn't the most appealing to look at (next to the aforementioned outdoor pool). It needs some upgrades. Room had a freestanding electric "fireplace" that took up a good sized footprint. I would suggest removing it to add more space. Porcelain inside toilet bowl is worn. One lampshade had water stains, which is strange. Overall the place is clean though. Mattress is adequate but not of Marriott level comfort. read more

When visiting beautiful Luray Virginia, it is difficult to overlook the huge historical inn crowned on top of a green hillside. We have been here several times for their delicious Sunday brunch and it is one of my favorite things to do while in the area. I am always so impressed by the quality of their items. plenty of options from a fresh station to a fresh salad bar, waffle and cereal, stations, fresh coffee, cocktails, and everything that encompasses a great brunch. Service is always prompt and professional as well. If not for brunch, I also highly recommend their restaurant the speakeasy for dinner ! The hotel is in fact, historical has been designated as one of the historical hotels of Virginia. Having that been said, it is not renovated and it still maintains its period charm, rustic, and stately. It is maintained well. I know it is a popular location for events, gatherings and weddings ! read more

I stayed at the Mimslyn Inn and the experience was disappointing. The heat in my room didn't work, and the staff member who checked it admitted she couldn't fix it. She told me I would get a discount for the inconvenience, so I figured it would be handled. On top of that, the toilet was leaking and we had to leave towels on the floor to soak up the puddles. The bathroom sink was clogged too. These are basic things you'd expect to work were not working. At checkout I asked about the discount and was told they couldn't issue anything because I booked through a third party. The only thing they would remove was the historic preservation fee. I asked to speak with the general manager, and the front desk staff called him over. I spoke with Stephen Hand, and unfortunately that went nowhere. He said they couldn't adjust the stay, couldn't offer any credit, and couldn't even comp the breakfast I paid for with Apple Pay. This was false information because a manager has the discretion to reverse or offset a charge. He also refused any type of compensation or complementary gesture, not even a small item from the gift shop. His mannerism felt dismissive and unprofessional. For a property that's part of Historic Hotels of America, this is not the standard I expected. I was expecting to visit a wonderful, historic hotel and have a memorable experience with the family. Considering the heat didn't work, the bathroom had multiple issues, a discount was promised, and management still refused to make it right. I won't be returning and I wouldn't recommend staying here unless they fix their approach to guest care. read more

Stayed in the Roosevelt Suite. Drapes were dusty. Bathtub was spacious, but older. I didn't feel comfortable using for a bath. Shower pressure was strong and hard (stung when hit my skin). The bathroom lighting was poor. Some of the white curtains were torn. However, the lobby is very nice. There was an extra sitting area outside our suite which was like an elegant dining room. People were friendly. The Speakeasy restaurant had live entertainment and was a convenient walk from our room. Hotel pool was clean and tranquil. Despite some neglected care (or lack of attention to upkeep detail), we'd stay there again. This was still the best option close to Luray Caverns. read more

We stay here whenever visiting Luray. The staff are wonderful and so welcoming, especially Rebecca! They redecorated with a more modern design and colder aesthetic so it has lost some of the old world charm and coziness it used to exude as soon as you walked through the front door, but it still a lovely place to stay. read more

Our family absolutely loves the the Mimslyn Inn. We regularly go to their Sunday Brunches. Their is something for everyone. Their Prime Rib is wonderful. The kids love their waffles. Each week is a different theme. My favorite week is seafood. They have all kinds of shrimp, oysters, fish, salmon and their normal prime rib, waffles and omelet bar. They also have a soup and salad bar along side a grand selection of cheeses that are amazing. Their drinks are great. The service is always fantastic. They also have chicken and pork in a lovely sauce. They also have fantastic vegetables. Typically potatoes as well as several other cooked vegetables to choose. Their dessert bar is also wonderful. They have cakes, puddings, creme brûlée, bread puddings, and more. While you eat they have a live pianist. It really is a treat to dine here. read more

My boyfriend and I spent the night here because the hotel we wanted to stay at had a 2 night minimum. The hotel is cute and charming but their cleanliness could improve tremendously. When we first got into the room, we could smell the moldy/mustiness from the bathroom, mainly coming from the shower curtains that weren't washed or dried. We thought, "whatever, it's an old hotel and doesn't have the best ventilation." Everything was fine up until we pulled the sheets up to crawl into bed. There was a blood looking stain on one side and tons of grass on the other. This was our first time getting into bed, so it was not from us. Being grossed out knowing that they DID NOT change the sheets before the previous person that stayed there, I went down to the front desk and told them about the situation. She didn't seem too surprised, half ass apologized, dropped off sheets, and then made us change the sheets ourselves. We were so surprised and disgusted by this because it was one of the more pricier hotels in Luray. And the fact that they aren't taking cleanliness seriously during a pandemic is horrific. The best aspect of my visit (10/09/24-10/13/24) was the spa treatment. Jennifer is fantastic. Stayed in Roosevelt Suite - the living area furniture is quite worn, could use new furniture for sure. The dining was very good and staff attentive and friendly. No microwave or little fridge. Staff not allowed to warm up our leftovers - a 'contamination' reply. Front desk staff could use some personality. Beautiful entry and exterior with lovely front lawn and front porch rocking chairs with the view. read more

We loved this place! The opulent Mimslyn Inn sits majestically upon a knoll overlooking the town of Luray, VA. In the lobby we were greeted with a cozy seating area surrounding a roaring fire. The check in process was quick and the staff was very helpful. Our room was large and well appointed with a bottle of wine and white bathrobes. We had dinner in the Speakeasy. The menu was on point and the service was excellent. We were traveling with our children and were pleasantly surprised that there was a children's menu that included a PB&J! After dinner my husband and I got a bottle of wine and enjoyed it by the fire while the children played on their phones (yes, there is wifi). Breakfast in Circa 31 was delightful. We were greeted and immediately offered quiche and fruit. There were cereals and muffins available along with coffee, tea, juice, milk and water. read more

We stayed one night in a cabin and would love to return for more! We did swim in the saltwater pool and played table tennis. But the hammocks and fire pit time eluded us. Brunch was enjoyed on the veranda with views of the mountains and the food was top notch. The only downside if pressed for one is that getting in and out of the bathtub would be difficult for any seniors, due to the glass door and wide jetted tub. We had an amazing time here. We stayed at the Hawksbill Cottage and had a great time. The Hotel staff was super friendly and the accommodations were comfortable. Outside the cabin was a ping pong table and our 2 kids and us really had fun using this. It was a very nice vacation and a time we will never soon forget. My husband and I rented one of the cottages for two nights; the South River Cottage. It was adorable, and the fireplace and tub were awesome amenities. The staff was friendly and responsive, cottage was clean and well stocked. We came when the pool was closed, but this particular cottage backed right up to the shared pool, so I'm not sure I would've enjoyed it as much in the summer. Something to note; Luray is a SUPER small town. Like, way smaller than we anticipated. Very limited activities, food choices, or even nightlife. We came when we were pregnant with our third, so Netflix and a fireplace were sufficient. But if you intend to do anything other than Shenandoah hikes or the caverns, do your homework. read more

We stayed in the Manor House for just one night as a pit stop on our way to somewhere else. I had a feeling we were going to wish we had stayed longer and I was right. It's a beautiful place, a perfect mixture of modern and vintage. And it's HUGE. We're a big family (6 people), so it takes a lot of space for a place to feel "big" too us. This place pulled that off. There's plenty of space to eat, sleep, and relax without ever coming close to feeling crowded. I'd even say there was too much space for us! We'll have to come with a larger group the next time we come. And we will be coming again. Everything is sparkling clean and comfortable and there's plenty to do in the Luray area that we didn't get to do during this trip. One final silly note: There are some reviews floating around online that suggest Mimslyn Inn is haunted... We found no such evidence of that, at least not in the Manor House. read more

The Lewis Mountain cottage at the Mimslyn Inn was lovely and very clean. There was more than enough room for family of 4. Close to Luray Caverns, Skyline Drive, and hiking trails. There is a large outdoor area behind the cottages for guests to play games and enjoy a bonfire. Complementary breakfast was the only sour note of the 2-night stay. Highly recommend! read more

Warning the town of Luray is fairly outdated and run down, so my review is relative to that. Overall, we are glad we stayed at the Mimslyn. Really neat historical feel with some old grandiose here and there. The staff was very friendly and true to the community culture. Rooms were unique looking and small. Comfortable fit for a couple, adding anymore would have been very cramped. Restaurant was great and some of the best food the town had to offer. I'm serious about this, save your time/money and eat here. We tried a few of the non-chain places in the area and were disappointed at the price gauging/taste at each one. read more

Don't waste your money or your smile...First of all, this is 2024, as a mixed race couple, we stayed at the Inn Monday, July 22,Tuesday July 23 leaving on the morning of Wednesday July 24th. Not once did the staff say hello to me, a white female accompanied by her African/American spouse of 24 years, they were cold and uncaring and not helpful at all. There was a young lady on the night shift that talked to both of us, she also left a note for the morning staff to give us a 'wake up' call at 0700 on Wednesday, not done, never followed through. When my spouse went to the desk to inform them that we did not get the call at 0700, the employee said " I will let maintenance know that the call didn't go through." No apology, just excuses. Now mind you.... I called the front desk from my room the first night we were there. The room didn't even have a clock. The Inn is historic and in good shape, but the staff needs to SHAPE UP! We did not see one black employee during our stay...., I'm just sayin'..... read more

Pros : great location if you are planning to visit Shenandoah. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious. Cons : very small room and bathroom, despite spending 3 nights the toiletries were never replenished, old school air conditioning that did very little, 3 pillows are provided we had to ask for an additional 2 pillows (we saw a lot of guests doing the same), and a pair of AirPods either were stollen or trashed during the cleaning process. When the hotel staff was called they showed very little interest. Would not recommend and wish we could have left as soon as we saw the state of the room/bathroom. read more

Bottom-line, our first visit to the inn was a mixed bag...some experiences pleasant, some not so great.  For the price we paid, I am not sure we would come back to stay again. We stayed at this hotel overnight during Columbus Day weekend.  It did not seem crowded or particularly busy, although it was sold out. This is a nice little heritage hotel that is clearly the most luxurious place to stay in the area.  If you like boutique, this will likely be a pleasing place to stay for you. We had a cozy two-bed room (for three people) with period pieces and furniture and a decent bathroom.  If you expect the most modern amenities you would see in a 5-star hotel, this might be a let-down.  For example, although you have cable service and wireless internet, the TV is one of the smallest I've seen in a hotel in a long time. The fitness facility is just a room with a few pieces of exercise equipment. Room service was good, although we only used it for just a few simple items.  We were not there long enough to experience the maid service.  There is a pool and hot tub, so don't forget to bring your swimwear (like we did). The front porch, with its numerous composite wood rocking chairs, Adirondack chairs and chaise-lounges, was really a nice place for a cup of coffee or tea or to read the paper/smartphone.  The morning we were there was cloudy and drizzly...rather pleasant actually. Unfortunately, dinner on Saturday night was a disastrous affair for us.  We tried to get into the Speakeasy restaurant in the lower level, but there was a long wait, so we walked into the upstairs, more up-scale, restaurant on the main level.  Although it was not crowded in the restaurant, we were later told that the kitchen was overwhelmed since many of the parties arrived at the same time.  Our young waitress was pleasant, but inexperienced, and she failed to keep us updated on the status of our meal.  After waiting over 45 minutes for the main entrée, I had to stop her and ask why the delay.  She said that they were busy and that our food was being prepared now.  15 minutes later, after another table with people who were seated after we were was served, our food arrived.  My wife's lobster was luke warm to touch and undercooked (this was their feature dish).  We sent her lobster back, were given a complimentary steak meal, and unhappily took everything upstairs to our room since it was getting late.  I enjoyed the pork chop, my wife's steak was average, and my son's chicken pasta was OK but bland.  The restaurant manager apologized profusely and we were not charged for the lobster or the steak, but this did not really compensate us enough for such an upsetting inconvenience since this was supposed to be our one night we looked forward to in Luray which capped a great day at the cavern and museums. Given our bad experience at dinner, and the meager "continental" breakfast available the next day (Holiday Inn-type coffee dispensers with mini muffins), we opted to go to breakfast at Uncle Buck's, just a half-mile or so up the road on Main Street.  This was really a great place for good old country fare at a great price. The historical portion of Luray is a quaint, sleepy location with a number of nice little restaurants and shops to check out.  There is also a nice 4-mile trail nearby, great for walking or jogging, with nice views of the creek that runs through the town. I recommend to management that reconsider how the restaurant is managed, especially if there is an influx of customers. Also, additional training for their young staff so that customers are better aware of any delays would be useful. On the whole, the Mimslynn Inn was a mixed bag for our first visit. read more

We visited Mimslyn Inn a couple weekends ago when we were in Luray. It was a group of 9 of us and my friend had called ahead of time to make a reservation. When we arrived, the hostess told us that it was a good thing we made a reservation because it was a busy night! We were seated immediately, and the hostess came by with menus. There weren't really a ton of veggie options (other than a salad there was a veggie burger and one entree to choose from). None of the appetizers or soups were vegetarian so I wasn't able to order any of those items. I ended up ordering the veggie burger which was actually house made. It was tasty but it kind of fell apart as I was eating it. The fries were great though (waffle fries FTW)! Overall my experience was pretty good, I don't know that I'd visit again, but I did enjoy my meal. The waitress we had and staff were also very nice so that's another plus. My wife and I booked this place for her birthday weekend and we couldn't have chosen a better spot. The inn itself is so inviting and cozy with a fireplace when you walk in a fireplace upstairs. The room was perfect and the bed was amazing! We both had been fighting sinus infections for weeks and for myself, that was the first sleep I had gotten in almost two weeks. Beth at the front desk was extremely patient and kind when we thought the hot tub hadn't been turned on. Both Circa '31 and The Speakeasy were delicious. I'm from Alabama and am very picky about pulled pork bbq. This is the first place I've found in my 4 years of living in NoVA that has comparable bbq. We will definitely be visited again! read more

Book a cottage! We stayed in the Jewell and were very pleased with the layout, amenities, and cleanliness. Great bath amenities- smells fantastic, even had toothbrushes. Only con is the front heater crackled like a fire and we had to turn it off in the night. Liked the electric fireplace and the Roku tv. Wifi was spotty. Check in receptionist was very nice. However, checked me in under wrong prrson and thankfully I caught it before my credit card was charged $425 extra. It was a misunderstanding on my last name so an innocent mistake. This place is definitely the most extravagant structure in the area (apart from the caverns). It is located on top of a hill (adding to its splendor). There is plenty of parking as long as it's not late in the evening when locals are dining at the hotel's two restaurants. Formally dressed men hold the door open for you at the entrance. (I guess as a city girl, the deferential display bothered me a bit. It wasn't the typical doorman politeness.) Check in went smoothly. Southern hospitality felt phony and forced. Elevator is slower than my grandmother! Take the majestic stairs if you only need to go to the second floor. The rooms are clean but dated. There is this huge boxed TV in a cabinet. The doors to the cabinet don't open all the way so view of the TV from bed is obstructed. Honestly, the inn is beautiful but I didn't feel at ease during my stay. I don't regret picking this place to stay but I won't be returning to the establishment. read more

My wife and I finally had a weekend without the kids (with thanks again to the grandparents!) and chose the Mimslyn for our retreat. Absolutely zero disappointed us about the experience. We booked a suite and for two nights had the utmost in comfort. The room was quaint and well-apportioned. The dining excellent. The staff superb. The saltwater pool is modest in size, but plenty for the number of guests. Besides, the hot tub is the real attraction. And it was necessary after a day of hiking off in Shenandoah. We have just returned from a very relaxing weekend in Luray, VA and most definitely enjoyed our stay at the Mimslyn Inn . Check-in and check out was a breeze, and the front desk staff were very organized and helpful. Everything was in order upon arrival, and the check-in process took only a few minutes. I will say that upon entering, the main lobby is very attractive, with a nice fireplace and plenty of seating and at times, a pianist. We found our standard room to be very comfortable. Having read some of the previous reviews with issues concerning room size, I did not find this to be an issue at all. Not really sure what sort of calisthenics those reviewers were planning on doing in their room at the inn, however I didn't find the room size to be an issue in the least. We took the time to walk around the inn with a few adult beverages from the bar, and found the third floor and outside gardens to be extremely relaxing and inviting. Do take advantage of those! Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room in a very nice, historic inn that is exactly what we hoped for. Free - fast WIFI. This was a Groupon find. I would stay here again with another Groupon. Cons: Sunday buffet breakfast was fair at best. Bartenders could use a refresher on how to make proper drinks. We came here to unwind and celebrate the end of my intensive bar-study. Everything about this hotel is just so darling. The manor is situated on top of a hill with breathtaking views of Luray and Shenandoah mountains, and only 15 minutes drive from Shenandoah. Inside is plush carpet and winding staircases and glittering upholstered chairs and lovely sounds of a grand piano. We got a free upgrade to a corner room, which was quite nice of the management. While we didn't partake in dinner as we had a picnic while hiking, we had dessert on the porch. The fantastic dessert was accompanied by spectacular views of the sun setting over Shenandoah mountains. I felt so much of my stress melting away at my stay here (full disclosure: we also indulged in a couple's massage), and would gladly come back the next time I am down in Shenandoah hiking! read more

My friends and I went to the historic, stately and charming Mimslyn Inn after an entire day of hiking Old Rag, an approximately 8-mile circuit hike in nearby Sperryville, VA, Shenandoah National Park. We did not go to the main restaurant, Circa 31, in the inn, because of our attire, and instead, chose the Speakeasy, a more casual, more moderately priced restaurant downstairs. It was a nice low-key place to rest our tired selves and refuel with good food and beer. I highly recommend (esp. for a post-hiking meal) the hearty, tasty, well-portioned Sheperd's Pie with lamb. I wouldn't recommend the Chicken Ravioli, which came in a bland watery sauce, and was cold when I ordered it. However, to the restaurant's credit, the staff was wonderful, and replaced my ravioli dish with the Sheperd's Pie, once I explained its unappealing attributes. Prices, as I said, were reasonable, and the atmosphere was friendly. I plan to return during my next hiking jaunt, and also to stay at the inn itself. read more

We were in Luray on vacation last week and my friend who is a local suggested we go see Acoustic Thunder at the Mimslyn Inn Speakeasy bar and have dinner - I'm glad she did. It is a decent bar with good food and service. The band was fun and encouraged interaction allowing some kids to sing along and they know most of the locals. Even if you are not a local you are made to feel welcome. The home made chips and garlic dip are amazing - don't skip them. We also split the salmon burger which was one of the best I've ever had. My friend ordered the nacho's, she's the local and swears by them. The next morning we went back and ate breakfast in the main dining room. Having only seen the bar I was surprised by how "swanky" this hotel is. My friend's son gave us the nickel tour and the staff we encountered were all super nice. For breakfast they offer ala carte and buffet. Buffet looked ok and my boyfriend got that. The price of buffet was ok. I got an omelet and they stuffed full of yummy creamy cheese and veggies. The grits were great and the potatoes yummy too. I heard they offer a lunch buffet as well and they were setting it up as we were leaving. It looked pretty extensive and again the price was right. We were full though and headed out of town. I will consider staying here next time and will be back to hang at the bar and eat in the main dining room. read more

Unfortunately, we didn't get to stay here as it was way ridiculously expensive. However, it does appear to be the fanciest and nicest accommodations in Luray by far. The whole feel and setting is beautiful and southern. We went here to partake in some of the oyster fest and dine at The Speakeasy (the restaurant where you don't have to dress up). We had oysters, steak, and chips and dip. It was all wonderfully tasty. And the service was pleasant and knowledgeable - and we were never rushed. The space itself for the restaurant was alright. Nothing too special. It definitely feels like a basement and is on the dark side. Not much to note about the decor. But it was cozy and enjoyable enough. Overall, based on our limited experience with the Mimslyn, I would say I'm a fan and I would totally stay here if given the chance. read more
