An older hotel with some southern influence. Dinner was ok at the Speak Easy restaurant last evening. Pool isn't filled (May 1) yet but hot tub appears to be functioning, but it isn't the most appealing to look at (next to the aforementioned outdoor pool). It needs some upgrades. Room had a freestanding electric "fireplace" that took up a good sized footprint. I would suggest removing it to add more space. Porcelain inside toilet bowl is worn. One lampshade had water stains, which is strange. Overall the place is clean though. Mattress is adequate but not of Marriott level comfort.

Found a pair of men's socks which did not belong to us. Left over from the last guest. Completely disgusting and gives it away that staff does a terrible job vacuuming. Towels had smudges, and tv didn't even face the sofa nor beds

    Bathroom for Roosevelt Suite

Stayed in the Roosevelt Suite. Drapes were dusty. Bathtub was spacious, but older. I didn't feel comfortable using for a bath. Shower pressure was strong and hard (stung when hit my skin). The bathroom lighting was poor. Some of the white curtains were torn. However, the lobby is very nice. There was an extra sitting area outside our suite which was like an elegant dining room. People were friendly. The Speakeasy restaurant had live entertainment and was a convenient walk from our room. Hotel pool was clean and tranquil. Despite some neglected care (or lack of attention to upkeep detail), we'd stay there again. This was still the best option close to Luray Caverns.

My boyfriend and I spent the night here because the hotel we wanted to stay at had a 2 night minimum. The hotel is cute and charming but their cleanliness could improve tremendously. When we first got into the room, we could smell the moldy/mustiness from the bathroom, mainly coming from the shower curtains that weren't washed or dried. We thought, "whatever, it's an old hotel and doesn't have the best ventilation." Everything was fine up until we pulled the sheets up to crawl into bed. There was a blood looking stain on one side and tons of grass on the other. This was our first time getting into bed, so it was not from us. Being grossed out knowing that they DID NOT change the sheets before the previous person that stayed there, I went down to the front desk and told them about the situation. She didn't seem too surprised, half ass apologized, dropped off sheets, and then made us change the sheets ourselves. We were so surprised and disgusted by this because it was one of the more pricier hotels in Luray. And the fact that they aren't taking cleanliness seriously during a pandemic is horrific. Take your money elsewhere.

We loved this place! The opulent Mimslyn Inn sits majestically upon a knoll overlooking the town of Luray, VA. In the lobby we were greeted with a cozy seating area surrounding a roaring fire. The check in process was quick and the staff was very helpful. Our room was large and well appointed with a bottle of wine and white bathrobes. We had dinner in the Speakeasy. The menu was on point and the service was excellent. We were traveling with our children and were pleasantly surprised that there was a children's menu that included a PB&J! After dinner my husband and I got a bottle of wine and enjoyed it by the fire while the children played on their phones (yes, there is wifi). Breakfast in Circa 31 was delightful. We were greeted and immediately offered quiche and fruit. There were cereals and muffins available along with coffee, tea, juice, milk and water.

They had a common living room for the guests to relax in which had books and board games. There was also an area for 24/7 water, coffee, and tea, and in the afternoon, a baked treat was available. We saw chocolate chip cookies and apple cider donuts. Bonus: There was a mini fridge with seltzer water. Second, we booked the Naturalist for the weekend and it was a wonderful room. The sheets were so soft and comforting. The bathroom was a bit small but had modern fixtures. I don't know what the shower head was, but it was super nice LOL. I could've stood in there forever. Their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash smelled lovely as well. They provide a little lotion tube. So, I'd recommend bringing your own. Third, the breakfast was amazing. Shannon and Joe did a wonderful job making the dining experience wonderful. I really loved Shannon's french toast. Joe was also very attentive to the guests. Overall, it was such a wonderful experience. I would love to visit again someday. The location is also quite convenient. You are walking distance away from many cafes, stores, and restaurants. It was definitely a wonderful weekend to recharge. Highly recommend and grateful that we could spend our anniversary here

Unfortunately, because of our choice of year, we ran into a few problems, all of which were addressed promptly and satisfactorily by the owners of Brookside. And, because of that, we are in position to review several of the cabins! We booked Cabin 9 and battled through crazy DC drivers who freak out over a literal two inches of snow (aside: seriously DC-area, get it together!) Diane in the gift stop called us that morning to warn us of the impending snow and to let us know that if we ended up arriving late, they would leave the key for us under the doormat. Amazing foresight and we really appreciated her call. When we walked into our cabin, the bathroom sink was overflowing and not draining. Turns out the cold winds had frozen the drainage pipes and Cabin 9, being at the end, got the brunt of it. Cece and Bob, the owners, came down immediately and gave us our choice of cabins. We chose number 2, which is a cozy space with a hot tub, angled bed and intimate fireplace area. The second morning, when we were moved back into 9, the water went out over the entire resort just after our morning shower, but by the time we returned to the cabin in the evening, it was fixed. Overall, I liked Cabin 9 best, with its open layout, its great view from the Jacuzzi tub and its numerous skylights. Cabin 2 was cozy and romantic and I liked the layout of the sofa area around the fireplace and the hot tub was pleasant. Both are ideal for a couple, though Cabin 9 has a pull-out sofa and is large enough to not feel too crowded with kids. We also had a peek into Cabins 7 & 8. Number 8 has a full kitchen and two bedrooms and would be great for a family or even the main house for a family reunion. Cece said it is popular for Thanksgiving gatherings. Cabin 7 is a jacuzzi cabin that was intended to be a two-bedroom but instead has a "tub room." If you like privacy for your Jacuzzi it makes sense, however we did not like that each room was separate. The greatest part about the winter? Beautiful snow-covered trees and a partially frozen brook that still babbles underneath it AND the amazing Christmas decorations in each cabin. The usual decor is a bit old-fashioned and flowery, but the Christmas decorations are really fabulous and fun. The restaurant was closed from Thanksgiving until the second week of January. Also, the cabins are really close to 211, which could get noisy in the summer, maybe? But we did not hear much traffic from our cabin, which was next to the roadway. Plus, you can't get any closer to the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park. We hope to return this spring!

Our room was not like the photos (definitely not fully remodeled) or luxurious. The bathroom had new fixtures and vanity but the tub was still old and kind of grimy. The window screen in the bathroom was ancient and hard to open and there were some sort of seeds or insect eggs all over the windowsill there. There were also dead flies in the front window, which could have used a wipe down. We had a 2 queen room and one bad was extremely hard and one was very soft. There were only 3 pillows on each bed so someone only had 1 pillow - not ideal with kids. Two of the towels in the bathroom were nice and 2 were pretty raggedy and thin. The size of the room was fine (only room for 1 small table, no chairs) but there was no additional deadbolt or slide latch on the door and that didn't feel safe, especially after someone tried to put a code into our door at about 11:00 one night. This motel is somewhat cute, cozy and quiet but still seems a bit run down. However, after driving around Luray, I'd venture to say it's the nicest of the roadside motels we saw. It has beautiful views of the Shenandoah's and it's very convenient to town and the park. It wasn't awful but wasn't what we expected. The manager Judy was very nice when she called to confirm our reservation and when I let her know the room smelled smoky. Be aware that not all rooms look like the photo on the website.
