Overall a great experience. I loved the fact that coming here a little after the check in hour I was texted a code to get through the main door and into the room specifically resevered in advance. Though it is remodeled, the building layout still has its old-time feel and stairs, so be sure to take that into account if you book a second floor room. The rooms are spacious and have more in place than most modern hotels. The kitchen is a nice feature, but not something very useful for a one night stay. The bed was comfortable, but as others have said you do hear everything outside on the street, so it might be best to try and book a room in a somewhat remote corner. read more

We just finished our stay at this cute hotel. It has an Airbnb feel and is located close to everything we wanted to do - hiking, kayaking, zip lining and more. The best part is we were within walking distance of several eateries which made finding food easy. Now for the cons - If you need complete darkness to sleep, this may not be the place for you. The natural light in our room was incredible and so were the street lights! We wore sleep masks and that helped us greatly but without them we likely wouldn't have slept well at all. Also, when we raised issues about cleanliness, the manager responded promptly. I'm not sure we'd stay here again but it was still a solid stay. read more

We stayed in this cute little historic hotel in the heart of Luray which is a great spot for going to the Shenandoah mountains and the Cavern. The lady that checked us in is so sweet and informative. Our room was very nice but the alarm went off in the hotel for several minutes because someone didn't turn the exhaust fan on while taking a shower which is necessary. We also found ants in the kitchen. It was a block away from a very scenic walkway. Enjoyed the common area for afternoon tea. read more

Beautiful building with an excellent location! We stayed here after a long day of hiking Skyline Drive, and went 5 minutes down the road to Luray Caverns in the morning. There are restaurants within walking distance or a very short drive (you pick). We had a beautiful suite on the second floor. It was very noisy. We could hear e v e r y t h i n g our neighbors did, and when they dropped something it sounded like it was in our closet. Judging by the guest book, this place is a hotspot for wedding anniversaries. You have been warned. The street noise was surprisingly intense for such a small town. It once again felt like the noise was coming from inside the room. We also got a lot of light through the blinds and spent some time debating which direction of the slats let less light through. Curtains would help immensely with light and noise! Last but not least, the bed was not as soft as we'd hoped. There were plush pillows and soft blankets aplenty to help us be more comfortable though. The shower was spacious and hot, and the towels were plush. Hotels are designed for sleep. We barely slept. We had a great 2night stay. Staff is warm, attentive and available. We had lots of complimentary water and the kuerig in the room was quite tasty. We loved the newly renovated look and chic decor. Really cool design details made the room look great. It's an old building so we could hear walking upstairs and cars going by but nothing out of the ordinary. In mid-January, my fiance and I reserved a room at the Hotel Laurance for a Valentine's Day getaway in Luray. We received confirmation of our reservation from Hotels.com, and believed everything was set for our stay. But, when we arrived at the hotel, we were told that our reservation was in the computer system, but the room was double booked. There were no other open rooms, and we could not stay there. The woman at the front desk told us this had happened a few times before (apparently, the two online reservation requests were submitted very close together, and this somehow resulted in a double booking). We understand that mistakes happen. But since the reservation was in the hotel's computer system and they could see room was double booked, this seems like something hotel employees should have caught early and notified us about, especially if it had happened a few times before. Overall, we were very disappointed with the customer service we received. The hotel staff suggested other places to stay (many of the popular accommodations were full or pricey, because it was Valentine's Day weekend and at this point it was late in the day), but at no point did the hotel offer to pay for our stay elsewhere or provide a voucher if we wanted to come back another time. The staff did not accept any responsibility for what happened. Instead, they blamed the issue entirely on Hotels.com. The front desk employee offered to call Hotels.com on our behalf to request a refund or demand they pay for us to stay at another hotel. She explained that in the past, Hotels.com had sometimes been reluctant to give refunds when this happened, and that it could be a lengthy process. At this point, it was about 5:30 p.m. After she spent about half an hour on hold and calling other local accommodations (most were full or pricey), we decided to just get dinner and drive the two hours home. We didn't want to book another hotel without our refund in hand, and were still in shock, processing how this could have happened. The front desk employee took my fiance's phone number and told us she would continue to try to get through to Hotels.com and would call when she did. We didn't receive a call from her, and when we followed up via email the next day, she told us she had been on hold with customer service "for four hours" and was unable to get through. We called shortly after and secured a refund from a very understanding and helpful hotels.com rep within about 10 minutes. When we followed up with the front desk employee and the general manager, Lauren, to express how upsetting and confusing this experience had been for us, we received a lengthy email from Lauren which detailed her many grievances with Hotels.com/Expedia (she accused Hotels.com of "lying" to us) and explained that if we had made a reservation directly through the hotel, this would not have happened. Again, there was no offer from the hotel to make up for what had been a stressful and overall unpleasant experience. This was especially disappointing because we are getting married in Luray next year, and had hoped to recommend the Hotel Laurance to family and friends. We were also looking forward to a special Valentine's Day weekend in Luray, which instead resulted in a stressful and confusing evening. The hotel looks beautiful and is a short walk from shops and restaurants on Luray's main drag, but after this experience, I can't recommend it. read more

Such a pretty little place to stay when you want to get out far. It was so difficult picking which room to stay in because everything looked sooooo nice. They have room options with kitchen, living room or family. Checking in was very easy and inn keeper was very friendly in accommodating our needs. Accessing was very simple, just four digit to enter. Everything in the room is was simple and clean. They also had tv with wifi capability that allows you to access your own entertainment apps. It literally mile or two away from Luray cavern and not far from Shenandoah, main reason people would stay here . Highly recommended for a nice cozy stay. read more

This historic element, the central location and the tranquility of this place really makes it stand out from other hotels in Luray. Check in was a bit confusing and inconvenient since there was no one present when we arrived (at check-in, on Saturday), so we had to call and text numerous times in order to get ahold of the innkeeper. Let me start by saying nothing really bad happened while I was here but really nothing good happened either. It was a place to spend a night but for the price is why the low rating, especially considering no breakfast is included. The night before I had spent the same amount of money on a bigger room with breakfast included. So that being said, the rooms are quite pretty and decorated in period style. And by rooms, I should say room, because apparently each room is different. I see reviews saying they had no problems with space, but our room was tiny. It was functional; honestly it reminded me a bit of a combination of minimalist living and what someone would do if they bought a bunch of antiques. The problem I have with pretty rooms is they're just nice if you plan to spend time in them and in that case they were small. I cannot fault them for not making good use of the space they had. There was no TV service but they did have the ability to connect to your own Netflix and Amazon Prime. Also, the wireless was down when we arrived at night but again mostly there to sleep so didn't call. It was up the next morning. The walls were definitely thin. I could hear 2 neighbors distinctly. In fact, I think one was trying to be loud to drown out the other, otherwise I'm pretty sure I could have pieced out a conversation. As advertised, there is a full kitchen in each. "Full" being relative since the rooms were small. "Kitchenette" but with everything basic there. We did not use the common areas. Apparently there were board games in one but I peeked only a little and didn't see any so left it alone. One appeared to be setup for dining and I didn't want to intrude. The staff we saw was friendly. They did knock at exactly check out time to check on us but gave us a few extra minutes to get out and told us not to rush. IMO the parking is not great (there are 2 side spots and then a sort of scary blind turn into the rest of the spots) but it served its purpose. read more

The hotel is located in downtown Luray, only a few minutes drive fro Thornton Gap entrance station. The beds are extremely comfortable. My dad said that it was the most comfortable bed he had slept in his life. Although it is recently renovated, it is an old building. The handle of the oven is falling. The power went out for about two hours during a thunderstorm. But the staff was able to buy us some candles. They charged $25 for extra person to my credit card afterwards, which is never stated on their website and during my booking process. read more

Every room is unique and looking at the different options is half the fun when staying here. The interior decoration for each room is beautifully done. I arrived around 9PM and all the doors were locked but saw that the door had a keypad lock. I called the number for the hotel and was immediately assisted with the code to the door to enter the hotel from the parking lot as well as my room code. The room was set up exactly as the photographs posted on their website. The only issue I had during my stay there was that the bathroom sink was very, very slow to drain. It was to the point that even a quick use of the sink like washing my hands would start to create a pool of water. Couldn't use the bathroom sink to brush my teeth or wash my face as it would have probably overflowed. There was a kitchen in my room so I used that sink instead. For the cost of the room, I don't think there should be inconveniences like this especially if the room gets serviced (when it was cleaned it should have been noticed...and fixed). The location is quaint as it is in town and easy to grab a bite or coffee. Shenandoah National Park is also nearby and this was where we chose to sleep during our visit to the park. read more

1. Getting in to our room there was something disgusting folded up in to one of the towels like they just folded up a dirty towel and placed it in the room but we didnt complain bc its human error and it was our wedding so whatever get some more towels. 2. Get back from honeymoon to several extra charges on our credit card for $100 in cleaning for both rooms and $75 for a dog that was never there and for damaged towels. LOL so the towels they said were damaged they sent us pictures of that had sopping wet orange juice all over them the DAY AFTER ANY ORANGE JUICE was drank... interesting.. Yes one towel had spray tan on it and we owned that stuff happens but charging us almost 100 in damages for dirty towels that they had not washed is absurd. I explained to the manager that I personally put the towels in the bathroom and there were none with orange juice on them and she needed to look at her cleaning crew because they must have spilled the orange juice that was put on the counter with the rest of the trash we had left in the kitchen ALL TOGETHER because they do not have big trash bins and we had a wedding party getting ready there so we staked it all together to make life easier. fast forward to the dog. THIS MANAGER ADMITTED TO GOING ON MY FACEBOOK TO LOOK AT PICTURES OF OUR DOG. She had accused us of having our dog there when we had not had him there he was at my parents and then taken to reston right after our wedding because he was not allowed at our wedding venue either. She told me she didnt appreciate being lied to and she had looked at my wedding pictures and the hair in question is the same as my dogs HAHAHAH ok you are crazy so you are admitting to going on my facebook to see if I have a dog and to accuse me of having him in our hotel room. WHY would anyone have their dog in their hotel room with a wedding party trying to get ready? ALSO she told me she overheard a groomsmen saying watch out their is another dog out here. hilarious because my husband wasnt in his room 90% of the day and the dog was always at my moms house with my uncle who brought him directly to our wedding site. AND HIS GROOMSMEN were with their girlfriends. He was watching womens soccer with his brother and my step dad.. They also told us that there was a water bottle thrown across the room that had water on the wood floors and ruined it... UMMM you have showers and people walk across your floors all the time with wet feet im sure that number one no one threw a bottle and two the floors arent ruined. We aren't the big partying type and don't get very wild so this was very upsetting to say the least. She said that it took 2 hours to clean my husbands room when quite literally there was NOTHING in it. You cannot tell me that with as many weddings as they have their that they dont have trash they have to take out of the room. and again remember everything was put together in the kitchen to make it easier. I think she likes to pray on people from the city that dont check their card statements or look at the fees because we are on our honeymoon and just chalk it up to extra fees. But I grew up in that town and my family owns a prominent business there and we are completely disgusted at this behavior. My question to Laura is if you overheard a groomsmen talking about a dog. 1. why didnt you address it? 2. how do you know its my wedding party you dont know me or my wedding party 3. you are in the office in the front and barely at that so how would you over here a comment from the back outside of the building? 4. How dare you accuse me of lying. You are a fraud and want to charge people more money for what? I am so excited for my photographer to send me the pictures of the guys getting ready to I can show her the inside of the hotel and how NOT FILLED WITH DOG HAIR IT WAS, OH and she tried to say the rugs were ruined with orange juice... HAHAHAH THE RUGS ARE DARK COLORED. moral of the story. Orange juice washes out. Spray tan may not. AND my dog wasnt there. I booked the Hotel Laurance last minute for a friend's wedding. I did not have a pet sitter available and they were incredibly wonderful to allow me to bring both of my dogs; not only that but when I arrived there were two dog bowls with treats and a toy waiting for them. In regards to the hotel itself, I was incredibly impressed. The hotel is renovated and very charming. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Luray. I hope to return again! read more

Wow! So very nice. Clean cozy and roomy. Lots of space. The kitchen has full size appliances and dishes. The bathroom has an old claw foot tub. It is like stepping back in time. I've been to several hotels and b&bs in luray over the years. Laurance hotel was a pleasant surprise. We were exhausted rock climbing in skyline drive. We got there as the hotel manager was driving by and Gail parked her car to let us in, show us our room and give us all the necessary key codes. My first impression was very positive. All was clean, well kept and not at all fussy. Decor was neutral and elegant. Walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that if you can help it don't take the Main St rooms. Traffic was light but the street lights shone into the room. We plan to stay there again. read more

The rooms are really clean and comfy. I loved how the bedroom was in a separate room than the small sitting area and kitchen. It felt like you were living in your own little apartment. The decorations were pretty and felt historic. The common area was also very well decorated and had an assortment of board games. The WiFi was one of the strongest signals I've had at a hotel. Booked the hotel but never got to stay. The Inn Keeper called and gave me a code to unlock the room when we got there because she was at an event for the night. The code did not work. We called and texted 20-30 times with no response until three hours later. Had to stay at another hotel. She apologized and said she'd give me a voucher for a free night which she never did. We stayed here last weekend for our wedding in Luray and let me just say it was wonderful! Not only are the rooms beautiful and the beds super comfy, the hospitality is top notch. We had a last minute issue with the cabin we were supposed to host our welcome dinner at Friday night and the manager of the hotel, Gail, came through and let us host it in their ballroom for a small fee. She was great - within hours had tables set up with linens, helped set up the food and then helped us break everything down after. It turned out wonderful and all of my guests could not stop raving about it. The next night we booked all of the rooms for our friends and wedding party to stay and they all had the best time. I had thought awhile about whether or not to write a review and decided I'd better go ahead. While the hotel itself was quaint and cozy, the customer service left much to be desired. My significant other and I had arrived at night, and I had pulled a pillow off the bed and set it on a side table to check for bed bugs. When I went to return the pillow to the bed, the side table (with a marble top) came crashing down onto my foot, which resulted in a trip to the local emergency room, where I spent most of the night. My significant other found the owner on site to let her know what happened and she gave him a bag for ice and didn't say much else. She did not follow up to see what the outcome was (my toe ended up being broken in two places), nor did she offer to comp our room or at least remove the table so that it wouldn't later land on someone's toddler or something. Needless to say, we won't be returning, nor would I recommend this place. read more
