We stayed in this cute little historic hotel in the heart of Luray which is a great spot for going to the Shenandoah mountains and the Cavern. The lady that checked us in is so sweet and informative. Our room was very nice but the alarm went off in the hotel for several minutes because someone didn't turn the exhaust fan on while taking a shower which is necessary. We also found ants in the kitchen. It was a block away from a very scenic walkway. Enjoyed the common area for afternoon tea.

Beautiful building with an excellent location! We stayed here after a long day of hiking Skyline Drive, and went 5 minutes down the road to Luray Caverns in the morning. There are restaurants within walking distance or a very short drive (you pick). We had a beautiful suite on the second floor. It was very noisy. We could hear e v e r y t h i n g our neighbors did, and when they dropped something it sounded like it was in our closet. Judging by the guest book, this place is a hotspot for wedding anniversaries. You have been warned. The street noise was surprisingly intense for such a small town. It once again felt like the noise was coming from inside the room. We also got a lot of light through the blinds and spent some time debating which direction of the slats let less light through. Curtains would help immensely with light and noise! Last but not least, the bed was not as soft as we'd hoped. There were plush pillows and soft blankets aplenty to help us be more comfortable though. The shower was spacious and hot, and the towels were plush. Hotels are designed for sleep. We barely slept. No breakfast is provided.

We had a great 2night stay. Staff is warm, attentive and available. We had lots of complimentary water and the kuerig in the room was quite tasty. We loved the newly renovated look and chic decor. Really cool design details made the room look great. It's an old building so we could hear walking upstairs and cars going by but nothing out of the ordinary. The town seemed to turn in around 9pm so we found it to be very quiet for sleeping.

Such a pretty little place to stay when you want to get out far. It was so difficult picking which room to stay in because everything looked sooooo nice. They have room options with kitchen, living room or family. Checking in was very easy and inn keeper was very friendly in accommodating our needs. Accessing was very simple, just four digit to enter. Everything in the room is was simple and clean. They also had tv with wifi capability that allows you to access your own entertainment apps. It literally mile or two away from Luray cavern and not far from Shenandoah, main reason people would stay here . Highly recommended for a nice cozy stay.

Very nice hotel at a great location with relaxing rooms. The entire hotel has been tastefully redone but the old character still remains.

They had a common living room for the guests to relax in which had books and board games. There was also an area for 24/7 water, coffee, and tea, and in the afternoon, a baked treat was available. We saw chocolate chip cookies and apple cider donuts. Bonus: There was a mini fridge with seltzer water. Second, we booked the Naturalist for the weekend and it was a wonderful room. The sheets were so soft and comforting. The bathroom was a bit small but had modern fixtures. I don't know what the shower head was, but it was super nice LOL. I could've stood in there forever. Their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash smelled lovely as well. They provide a little lotion tube. So, I'd recommend bringing your own. Third, the breakfast was amazing. Shannon and Joe did a wonderful job making the dining experience wonderful. I really loved Shannon's french toast. Joe was also very attentive to the guests. Overall, it was such a wonderful experience. I would love to visit again someday. The location is also quite convenient. You are walking distance away from many cafes, stores, and restaurants. It was definitely a wonderful weekend to recharge. Highly recommend and grateful that we could spend our anniversary here

Unfortunately, because of our choice of year, we ran into a few problems, all of which were addressed promptly and satisfactorily by the owners of Brookside. And, because of that, we are in position to review several of the cabins! We booked Cabin 9 and battled through crazy DC drivers who freak out over a literal two inches of snow (aside: seriously DC-area, get it together!) Diane in the gift stop called us that morning to warn us of the impending snow and to let us know that if we ended up arriving late, they would leave the key for us under the doormat. Amazing foresight and we really appreciated her call. When we walked into our cabin, the bathroom sink was overflowing and not draining. Turns out the cold winds had frozen the drainage pipes and Cabin 9, being at the end, got the brunt of it. Cece and Bob, the owners, came down immediately and gave us our choice of cabins. We chose number 2, which is a cozy space with a hot tub, angled bed and intimate fireplace area. The second morning, when we were moved back into 9, the water went out over the entire resort just after our morning shower, but by the time we returned to the cabin in the evening, it was fixed. Overall, I liked Cabin 9 best, with its open layout, its great view from the Jacuzzi tub and its numerous skylights. Cabin 2 was cozy and romantic and I liked the layout of the sofa area around the fireplace and the hot tub was pleasant. Both are ideal for a couple, though Cabin 9 has a pull-out sofa and is large enough to not feel too crowded with kids. We also had a peek into Cabins 7 & 8. Number 8 has a full kitchen and two bedrooms and would be great for a family or even the main house for a family reunion. Cece said it is popular for Thanksgiving gatherings. Cabin 7 is a jacuzzi cabin that was intended to be a two-bedroom but instead has a "tub room." If you like privacy for your Jacuzzi it makes sense, however we did not like that each room was separate. The greatest part about the winter? Beautiful snow-covered trees and a partially frozen brook that still babbles underneath it AND the amazing Christmas decorations in each cabin. The usual decor is a bit old-fashioned and flowery, but the Christmas decorations are really fabulous and fun. The restaurant was closed from Thanksgiving until the second week of January. Also, the cabins are really close to 211, which could get noisy in the summer, maybe? But we did not hear much traffic from our cabin, which was next to the roadway. Plus, you can't get any closer to the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park. We hope to return this spring!

Our room was not like the photos (definitely not fully remodeled) or luxurious. The bathroom had new fixtures and vanity but the tub was still old and kind of grimy. The window screen in the bathroom was ancient and hard to open and there were some sort of seeds or insect eggs all over the windowsill there. There were also dead flies in the front window, which could have used a wipe down. We had a 2 queen room and one bad was extremely hard and one was very soft. There were only 3 pillows on each bed so someone only had 1 pillow - not ideal with kids. Two of the towels in the bathroom were nice and 2 were pretty raggedy and thin. The size of the room was fine (only room for 1 small table, no chairs) but there was no additional deadbolt or slide latch on the door and that didn't feel safe, especially after someone tried to put a code into our door at about 11:00 one night. This motel is somewhat cute, cozy and quiet but still seems a bit run down. However, after driving around Luray, I'd venture to say it's the nicest of the roadside motels we saw. It has beautiful views of the Shenandoah's and it's very convenient to town and the park. It wasn't awful but wasn't what we expected. The manager Judy was very nice when she called to confirm our reservation and when I let her know the room smelled smoky. Be aware that not all rooms look like the photo on the website.

We liked the wine so much we picked up a bottle from the shop. For breakfast before hiking, we chose the blackberry French toast and Stoney man breakfast along with coffee that was never allowed to be low. This was all so good we ordered the same the next morning along with an orange juice to go. For our second night, we had the short ribs, forrester pasta, blackberry lemonades and a blackberry cobbler that we had brought out in a box to save for later. On that second night, there was a bit of a back wait to be seated, but we think the staff handled it very well and as efficiently as possible. Overall, even with a few hiccups, we didn't have any complaints and are considering to make this a tradition for our anniversary.
