A group of 16 of us booked for the weekend and I honestly can't think of enough great things to say. Seriously, everything about this place was AMAZING! I organized the trip, so I got to work with one of the owners, Jesse, to get everything set up. He was helpful, responsive, accommodating, and really kind. I organize a lot for my friends and myself, and this was one of the easiest. Upon arrival we were checked in by the other owner, Gary, who immediately made us feel like we were at home. He gave us a wonderful tour of the property and told us everything we needed to know for a wonderful stay. This property is nestled in the hills of WV and the views are STUNNING! Every space and room is beautifully appointed, really leaning into the upscale rustic vibe you'd expect in a mountain retreat. So many beautiful nooks and crannies to sit and read or play games or just nap. The pool and hot tub are gorgeous and Logan at the pool bar will take amazing care of you! They provide a complimentary breakfast of freshly cooked eggs, meats, and biscuits/scones. The lunch and dinner menus are varied and everything we had was delicious. Our servers, Rain (spelling ??) and Angie were stellar and the ambience was just perfect. Every single one of us left feeling refreshed and we were all sad to leave. Do yourself a favor and make the trek out to Lost River and treat yourself. This place is amazing and I'm already planning my next trip here with my partner.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Guesthouse and we were blown away!…read more Nestled in the mountains of West Virginia the first thing you notice driving up to the Guesthouse is the beauty surrounding you. A winding road through a rocky valley with a mountain stream that flows to the Lost River. Then you turn into the Guesthouse and the stunning main building and cute cabins are so perfectly placed on the property with lovely landscaping. Walk into the main lobby to be greeted by Gary, one of the owners. He was super pleasant and took us on a tour of the property pointing out the dining room, bar, pool (although it was still closed for winter), hot tub and sauna, gym, multiple media rooms, game rooms and lounge areas, and then our room in the Hobson Cabin. The room was well appointed and clean. The shower was beautiful and had great water pressure and temperature. The balcony had wonderful views of the parks close by. A country breakfast is served daily at 9 and is a great start to the day. The dining room is open in the evening for drinks and dinner with a menu for anyone! Gary and Jesse are always close by if you ever need anything and make you feel most welcome. We can't wait to visit again in the summer so we can make full use of the pool and enjoy some nearby hiking!

Debbie and Gene were super nice and very welcoming with plenty of stories to tell. Loved the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver played every night. Please don't bring your own wood because it may have pests that could be passed to the tree populations there. Bring lots of water because there is none up on the mountain. There is a little market at the bottom of the mountain in Dry Fork that carries a variety of goods you might need. There are beautiful spots to hike down to enjoy the river, Res Creek. Viewing the sunrise across the road from the campground affords beautiful views, and a great spot on the rocks. I highly recommend it. In the evening, drive down to Bear Rocks preserve and park. Hike up to the rocks and enjoy the view. The campground has a couple of vault toilets that were kept pretty clean. The sites don't offer a whole lot of privacy, but they are surrounded by grass and trees. there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and wildlife feeling. At night you can hear the nighthawks and down at bear rocks at dusk you will see plenty of them doing their courtship dive. The creek is a hike from the campground. These are not along the creek at all.

Each has a fire ring and picnic table and what not. The foliage is nice but there is not a lot of thick tree cover in this alpine area which of course makes Dolly Sods unique so just don't expect large forest shade or pines. The vault toilets are clean and tidy. It will take you less than 1 minute to drive through the whole loop and pick your campsite. It's that small. You could walk to nearby trailheads but it might be easier to just hop in the car and park before your hike. Ample parking is available near the trails.

Located just one mile east of Seneca Rocks, the area offers many activities for outdoor enthusiasts including hiking, rock climbing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and cave exploration. The campground offers 25 standard, 13 standard electric, and 40 walk-to-only tent sites, and is generally open from the second Friday night in April through the last Saturday night in October. Reservations can be made through Recreation.com, but we were able to easily secure a "first come" tent site in Loop B (no hookups) on a Tuesday night in September. The "regular" price is $28 (2025), but our price was $14 using the NPS Senior Pass. Our site (#5) featured a smooth tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and a paved driveway that was sufficiently long and flat for our 20' class B RV. The site was wooded, so we didn't have a view of Seneca Rocks from our site although other sites (especially from the group sites in loop F) are reported to have views. While separated by trees, the sites are relatively close together and loud voices from our neighbors carried up to our site but they did respect the 10 pm quiet time. Our site was across from a clean, gender-differentiated, wheelchair-accessible restroom with flush toilets and showers, and was in close proximity to a large trash bin. The campground also had an amphitheater (no program on the night that we were there) and a dump station. Firewood was available for purchase from the camp host. Note that there is zero connectivity in the campground. We were able to get wi-fi at Yokum's Grill and General Store about a mile from the campground. A highlight of our overnight stay was the short easy walk on the Sunlight Trail, which is in the campground, which took us to an observation area with a view of the Seneca Rocks. The walk is only about 1/8 mile each way, but you'll need to add the distance from your site or parking spot.

We LOVE the experience - for its cleanness, its quietness, and the privacy you get. We did hear that the open area can be quite "eventful" at night, but our choice of staying at the wooded area suits us well. We enjoyed the elevated tent area, the elevated fire ring, and the paved drive way. The camping weekend is very pleasant because of this campground. Choose the wooded area if you want privacy and peaceful nights.

Had one day of skiing at Timberline during my WV ski trip. Getting there was fairly easy from…read moreElkins where I was staying. Parking was free, easy and convenient; I was a short walk to the lodge and the main lift. Picking up the lift ticket I had purchased online was also easy, there was a kiosk that issued the electronic card that worked from my coat pocket. Buying online and as a senior the one day lift ticket was a very reasonable $65. The mountain itself is easy to navigate; there is one main lift, a high speed detachable 6 pack that runs up the center of the mountain with all of the runs coming off of the lift. The lift has scanners that read the lift ticket and there are 2 sets of gates; this did seem to confuse some of the people in the lift line; I did see quite a bit of difficulty with people getting on and off the lift. The runs off the top of the mountain are a nice mix, 2 double blacks, 2 blacks, 3 blues and a long beginner green run. All of the runs give you 1000 feet of vertical; more then enough to give you a nice run, and plenty of challenge. Everything except for 1 double black run was groomed with good snow coverage. The runs have a nice variety, more than enough to make for a fun and invigorating day of skiing for intermediate and advanced skiers. A couple of notes, the bathrooms are conveniently located in the lodge without having to go to another level from the back of the lodge. If coming down the skiers right of the mountain you want to keep up some speed to make it all the way to the lift. Having 1 lift that is the only way to most of the mountain means that when there are issues with the lift stopped the lift line can get a bit longer then desired, but they managed to keep things moving for most of the day. Timberline is a very nice affordable option to ski or board in WV. Very nice for a day or two, although there is probably not much challenge for expert skiers. The 1000 feet of vertical and high speed lift make the mountain ski like a larger resort. Easy to navigate and affordable it is well worth considering for part of your ski trip in the area.
