Simple, easy process. Price is better than renting up on the mountain. Will definitely rent from in the future for our children again. Only downside is the parking, if you can go with an extra set of hands so you can drop the person off, circle around and pick them back up once finished. read more

Rented skis from here and they gave me the wrong size, of course I didn't realize this until I arrived on the slopes the next day. Went back after I couldn't bear the discomfort the day after and they wanted to charge me a fee to switch out sizes (completely their mistake). Asked for a manager, clearly heard a female speaking in the background but then they came back to say 'she wasn't in today.' Unless you want to deal with the nasty manager, Samuel, and them wasting half of your ski day, skip this place. Best to buy or rent anywhere but here at the Powder Shack. Sadly they have some cool stuff in the place but they are rude and have no empathy or accountability as a retailer. read more

We rented from here because we were running behind and the resort was sold out. The kids working here were ok but the adults were rude and had a chip on their shoulder. As a customer I don't owe you anything, and you are obligated to answer my question not bark at me. The condition of the boots were horrible, literally glued plastic sheeting and duck tape to hold them together. It took a while to get the equipment since no one gave us any clear instructions. Rented a snowboard from this place. We have been waiting for 1,5 hr to get our equipment. While we were waiting, two ladies returned to the cashier to complain about quality of equipment they got. But they were promised to get an exchange. We got our shoes and they were soooo used, one of my shoes was glued previously and another one was torn. I asked for the replacement - they provided, it's ok. On the very first time I was sliding down from the mountain, my binding got loose. I found out that one screw got lost. It's simply wasn't tighten since beginning I think they should check stuff like this, cause it's unsafe. I ended up returning the equipment and getting refund. read more

The equipment we got had obvious wear and tear with exposed wood (even got a few splinters) and the binding came undone once or twice. But for beginners, it'll do the job. Bad customer service, they randomly marked my rental as not returned then charged me $450 almost 2 months after I rented from them. I was so excited to have such a convenient shop close to my time share but if anything goes wrong, they don't take care of you. I called several times today to get this rectified and they either don't answer or the phone is off the hook ringing busy. I got someone earlier and told them I needed a call back asap to resolve this, that was 3 hours ago and now their phone is off the hook. SCAM! There's also no email address or any other way to contact them. I sure hope someone calls me back asap to fix this. $450 dollars isn't a small charge! Update, after waiting several hours and calling over and over, I finally got someone to answer the phone and they just said they would call me back later. Would not resolve my issue, would not agree to refund the stolen money from my bank account and is just making me wait till they get around to responding. When I asked them if they could relate to how infuriating it would be to wake up and find $450 dollars missing from your debit account they HUNG UP ON ME!!! Wow. Please don't make the mistake that I did and ignore all of the 1 star reviews. I decided to roll the dice and paid the price. They completely robbed our friends the day that we returned our equipment and blamed them for "damage" to a tiny plastic piece on a boot and charged $75 with no possible recourse. Then, an entire week after our trip to Massanutten, a mysterious $100 charge to our account was made by Powder Shack. The charge was "resolved" but only because we caught it and called them out. When you rent equipment they make you hand write your credit card information (which is wild in 2024) but they promise to destroy your info after you return your items. Clearly a lie. They obviously still had my info a week later and made a charge with zero communication to me. So ask yourself, do you want a thief to have your credit information stored in a filing cabinet? read more

Ask to see the equipment before you pay for the rental! Very old and worn out equipment. Major grooves on the bottom of the skis with zero signs of any wax. Daughters boots were falling apart on the inside. Lack of padding on one side cause major irritation of her ancle. Inside the store is majorly cramped because they they so overstocked. read more

CAVEAT EMPTOR! See all the one-star reviews here and on google. The kids in the store seem nice, but this gang of self-styled ski bums have horrible customer service. If you are a novice skier and heading to Massunutten you are probably fine...price is right for what you get. 1) we filled out the forms and they told my 6'1" son who is a level III skier that the longest skies they had was 164cm and when we were picking them up around the back a guy was returning 174cm skis...I asked the tech if they had more of these and he said and I quote, "Yes, next time ask for the right size." Wow, nice attitude we did and were given bad information. The bad-attitude ski bum went got the 174cm skins, but the DIN settings were not right (not hard to look at any internet search) and he kept popping out of him. Easy on slope adjustment andI thought nothing of it...honest mistake...BUT the hits keep on coming.. 2) we got to the slopes in Snowshoe and my 5.'7" daughter (level II) is pulling her 130cm skies out (PS...since the bathroom was not working I had to go to the Mexican restaurant around the corner and my kids put the skis in the carrier before I saw them.) She normally skis on 150'ish cm skis. So I had to rent another set while these sat useless. 3) When I returned the skis I mentioned it to the owner (lady) and her answer was, "You should have checked them before I left" This is true, my mistake, my daughter's mistake. I own that. I looked at my paper work we filled out and cannot find ONE SKI LENGTH calculator that puts her in skis less than 150cm. SO IF YOU ARE NOT A NOVICE...YOU NEED TO OWN YOUR OWN SKI DECISION. Obviously the store has a faulty calculator. We ski at Snowshoe, Killington, and Stowe regularly and they have never given her less than 150cm. 4) ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF BAD ATTITUDES IN THIS STORE. While I am standing there waiting for the charges to be added to my account, a guy returns a snow board and tells the "kids" there the back binding kept coming off...he leaves and the two kids started talking bad about him while i was standing there. So good prices, novice skier...good option. But the attitude of this place is really a function of the ownership so...enter at your own risk. AND if you think I am off the charts or just an anomaly...as an example of the owners attitude, look at the owner's response to the customers who have made complaints here and on google...it should tell you everything you need to know. So to preempt your final nasty comment to me, don't bother responding, I will NOT ever be bringing my business to your store again. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE! They gave our son 2 different sizes of boots which caused cramping in his foot. It cut our day short and prohibited us from skiing. When discussing our concerns with the workers, the owner was extremely rude and asked us to leave. We did not ask for anything but to explain our concerns. Rented skis for $15.99 a day for three days. This is less than half what you will be charged for rentals up at the ski resort. The Shack employees were helpful in working us through the process of getting the correctly sized boots and skis. Quicker and less hectic than the resort center. would use them again and would recommend folks needing ski rentals to go here. read more

There is no shortage of staff there, not sure how they don't violate fire codes or capacity codes, you can barely squeeze through the store, you can rent full equipment for 24hrs for $25 (you get what you pay for) so be advised the store manager is rude. read more

Rented from this business last season and had a far from pleasant experience. Customer service was seriously lacking. To start, the young man I spoke with on the phone hung up mid conversation. After looking up the business hours online I brought my grandchildren in for rentals. When we arrived a large dog ran up to my youngest granddaughter. No one seemed to notice or try to control it. The first woman we spoke with was not even close to welcoming and was not personable at all. I believe she said she was the manager but I don't recall her name as it's been so long. After getting ignored by the woman at the front desk another employee came to help us. It took far too long getting the rentals out and when we finally got them, they were in horrible condition. The bindings on my grandsons skis were broken. For future renters..... TAKE A PHOTO OF YOUR RENTALS AND LOOK THEM OVER We were charged for the broken equipment when it was given to us in that condition. DO NOT GO HERE FOR RENTALS! On December 22, 2023 I rented skis from Powder Shack. I was asked if I wanted to pay $5 insurance to cover any damages to the skis. I denied the coverage because I have faith in my ability to ski and knew it was unlikely I'd cause any damage. Big mistake on my part since the moment I got off the lift to go on my first run one of my skis began to feel loose and was rattling. The ski came off and I fell. I tried to put it back on with no luck. I had to walk down from the top of the mountain on my first run and drive back to powder-shack to hopefully get a replacement. When I got tI the shop another gentleman had the same issue but he paid the $5. So he got another pair of Skis and went on his way. I on the other hand was put on the hook for an additional $70 to repair the ski that was broken to begin with. When I buy a rental I expect it to work from the start. But the employee insisted it was my fault and that I must have stomped on the ski. Which I hadn't... I'm very aware on how to properly put on skis. I was given bad skis and the shop didn't want to take ownership. It was a bit fishy that another gentleman had the same issue. Overall I will not be going here again. I'd rather pay the higher rent fee from Massanutten resort for peace of mind that I won't have to deal with leaving the resort if something is wrong with my gear. I'm very disappointed with my service and lack of customer care. I was already upset that I was burning my lift ticket but having to pay an additional $70 felt wrong to me. read more

We hit their end of season that was a super deal so of course we bought more, but all quality stuff. Highly recommend you stop and check them out. Visited Powder Shack to rent skis & snowboards for a recent trip to Massanutten. We did have to return the snowboard due to a strap falling off - but the service was great. The price to rent here is by far less than Massanutten - and the staff is courteous and helpful. Witt was our associate and even though the store was very busy - he was extremely helpful and I was in and out quickly. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the check-in process for equipment return could use some updating. I recommend Powder Shack and would use them again. read more

Rented skis for myself, went around 4 pm. The owners son assisted my son and I in renting skis and his boots. He was very informative and pleasant to speak with. Very easy quick return of equipment as well around 11 am. We rented last year and also had a good experience. Such better pricing then massenutten. For two days of renting entire ski set up and sons snow boots, plus $10 (optional insurance) is was a little over $80. read more

We've always done seasonal equipment rentals from Powder Shack, as it is much more affordable than renting from the resorts and the equipment is in far better shape. Always given top brand skis and boards that are perfectly prepped for the slopes. Reasonable prices on a great selection of gear, as well. Employees are always pleasant and knowledgeable. read more

Poor service and poor equipment. I recently rented skis from powder shack and had a poor experience. All the ski pools my size were bent. The skis would lock you out of the boot. I had to wait an hour for them to size my boot to the skis. If possible please avoid renting from this store. read more

Their gear is crap! We rented all our gear today and as soon as we got to the mountain 2 of our 3 snowboards bindings we're missing the tightening screws. We called them and they said to load everything up and head back to have them fix it. We only had a few hours to ski so we had the massanutten ski shop fix it. Honestly all of their boots are super worn and beat up. Not worth the savings or hassle with broken gear. Spend the extra money to rent on the mountain. Also the lady working the front desk didn't offer any compensation she only defended their crappy equipment in front of everyone in the shop. Sad excuse for a business. read more
