I traveled here on a group trip - and if you haven't met me - I'm not a fan of winter! I basically came with my family and a bunch of friends, and I was the one who stayed in the condo and made sure everyone was well fed! I did love the little village of Snowshoe, so quaint and cozy! We went to the shops, restaurants, and hit the sights! Everyone hit the slopes, while I observed and put the chili on! My kids snowboarded and had a blast, hubby went skiing and said the snow was perfect! The rest of the group had a good time! In the evenings we played games, watched movies and repeated the shenanigans all the days we were there! The drive up the mountain is pretty cool- if you are a fan of winter activities, this is the destination for you!

Such a charming resort and mountain! A good spot for a beginner. ***LOCATION*** This is the best skiing mountain closest to RVA. It's a 3.75 hour drive. If you're coming from RVA, it's a pretty easy drive. There is a very windy party about 60% in the drive, but you get through it in about 30-45 minutes. There isn't much around, but the ski village has all you need. ***EXPERIENCE*** I came here with five other experienced skiers. I decided to take a class since this was my first time skiing. Unfortunately, the first teacher's teaching style didn't click with me. He was using an older style teaching method (we had poles) and I couldn't get past pizza-ing and falling. I decided to take another lesson. Thankfully, the next day, the weather wasn't amazing so not only were there less people on the bunny slopes, but I was the only person to take the class. My teacher Aspen was INCREDIBLE. She was a phenomenal teacher. We didn't use poles and her teaching method made a lot more sense. I will add that I've been told the first day of skiing is the hardest and I think having the lessons beforehand helped more things click together. I love that the Intro to Snow Ski Lessons come with rentals and a limited lift ticket. "Limited access lift ticket is valid for Skidder Lift/slope and the Silver Creek Ski Area for the entire day of the lesson (excludes Snowshoe Basin and Western Territory)." I wish there was a little more to the ski village. Most of it seems to close pretty early and they don't clear out the ice which makes it hard to walk around. For the more experienced skiers with me, their biggest complaint was the long lines for the lift and how short some of the routes were. ***BATHROOM*** We had two bathrooms in our Mountain Lodge room. Expedition Rentals has bathrooms too. And there are plenty scattered throughout the village. ***PRICE*** Lessons are $145.80 each day. Since I'm not confident in my ski skills/I didn't want to do any Blue or Black Diamond hills, I found that my limited access ticket was best for me. Especially with the rental included. ***CONCLUSION*** I'm so grateful to have had my first ski experience at Snowshoe. Although there were tough moments, I really loved having Aspen as a teacher.

Great mid-mountain stop bar/restaurant. Really fun!

Let me start with, I'm a ski-guy. An instructor and racer in my time and have skied all over the US and outside of it as well. Recently, we were looking for some Spring skiing that was drivable from Indiana and really didn't want to hit Michigan again. I'd checked out Snowshoe Mountain before and was at first impressed by the sheer size of the skiable areas it offers, but it was the elevation of almost 5,000' that really sold me. Especially for the location. I'm not going to say that SM is as good as the skiing across the West or even the North East for that matter, but for its location and its accessibility, it is by far superior to any other ski area mid-US. And for Spring skiing (we skied in early March) the mountain did show a few bare spots, but for the most part there was over a 50" packed powder base of nice, solid coverage. Which I found simply amazing. So, if you're in a bind and can't get to the more favored areas of the country for downhill skiing, Snowshoe is an awesome alternative. We'll be heading back again for sure (but maybe in January this time though).

We've stayed dozens of nights here since my husband lives on Snowshoe Mountain for several months. A few things that seem obvious, but may not be for travelers: - This is a remote location, deep in the hills of West Virginia. The roads are winding and beautiful. - Cell phone service is non existent unless you are in The Village on the Mountain - Snowshoe is within a few minute drive of Greenbank Observatory - check it out - This is considered a "12 month" resort, but research carefully if you are visiting outside of snow season, as many stores and restaurants are not open during off peak times Snowshoe has added several new stores and restaurants over the past few years. The selection continues to grow. I'm specifically glad to see more options to purchase locally made artisan goods. During the summer months, check out the lake area and the biking trails - they don't disappoint.

Have been coming here at least once every year but missed last year due to the lockdown.  Glad to see it's reopened for this season.  One side effect of the pandemic however is that now this resort is busier than before even during the week.  Pre-pandemic if you come during off peak - meaning weekdays (weekends is always packed) there's be no lift lines anywhere, plenty of lodging to choose from and easier dining - but now that seems to have all changed. Lodging in village center can be hard to come by unless you book more in advance even during the week.  Lift ticket numbers are controlled (except for season pass holders) - weekends mostly sold out for the entire season - weekdays still ok although Fridays could potentially still be a problem. We stayed here for two nights this time in early Feb and skied on a Thursday and Friday - snow conditions being wonderful that whole week both days are pretty busy - by 10 am on both days there are lift lines just about everywhere in the basin area (didn't go to Silver Creek so can't speak for that - it's not as popular except for night skiing), with Ballhooter and Powder Monkey being the worst (up to 15 minute wait by 11 am). One of the reasons for the longer and slower lift lines is due to pandemic safety measures - no two unrelated parties are made to share one lift (although on the quads it would seem pretty safe for two masked strangers seating at opposite ends, but that's up to the riders themselves to decide). Western Territory however remains less crowded with no lines and relatively empty slopes.  For some reason this year there are also a lot more snow boarders than before including many newbies you have to watch out for.  Overall this is still the best and largest resort in the region - just have to try to avoid peak times.

For our first time skiing, we had a great time at Snowshoe Mountain resort! We stayed at the Highland House and loved the connivence of ski in and ski out! Will definitely be back again!

We were on site for the Treasure on the Mountain charity event. Before the event, we spent some time wandering around the village. It is obviously designed for a captive audience, think snowed in tourists. But it is well set up and while the prices are high, they are not terribly higher than normal places.

Sit down, strap in your bindings! This is a long ride! Horrible! Everything but the slopes.... checked in Friday 1/22/21 Excited and my sons first time snowboarding as was my first time (at snowshoe) back in '93... stayed at Silver Creek. The room was outdated, chair was broken with a metal piece sticking out the front, the baseboard heat didn't work and we were given a space heater (with a 3yr old) when we told the front desk associate she said she'd send someone or change our room. Enough said, I hit the mountain. Came back after 2 runs and no one had come by. Ok, I'll deal with it in the morning... after my son had a pretty cold night on the pullout couch (which sucked too btw) I stopped by the front desk in the AM on the way out and told a different employee. She said she would take care of it.... hit the mountain all day and returned for a late lunch. The heat still wasn't fixed and I noticed the lavatory faucet was dripping.... geez.... this is starting to not feel like the "deluxe" room I paid for. Had lunch at the Locker room and I can honestly say Tom/Tim (male Asian server) was horrible at his job, rude, sarcastic, and just a general disappointment. Btw the food there is precooked, pizza is raw and doughy, chicken precooked as well and dry as the Sahara, burger store bought/precooked patty that isn't worth the 50¢ bun it's put on. I returned to the front desk and asked about maintenance, a different room, something.. the young lady replied she'd send some one right up... I returned to the room and the maintenance man showed up, nice guy but was just nonchalant and told me "she knows about the heat being broken and that chair broken. I don't know why you're in this room. They've known about this for a week or two." Oh wow!!! Wow... now I respect his honesty and he is the type of employee you need because he generally sounded frustrated about the situation. He apologized and said if he could come back with a space heater he would. (He never did) I called the front desk after 30 min and asked for another room and the woman replied that the resort was booked and I could purchase firewood at the rental shop if I wanted heat... hahaha wow! again.... so now the heat is broken and I have to purchase my own firewood?!? Deluxe room?!? Really?? I gave up on that and said let's go to the repair shop and fix my jammed binding... when I got downstairs the young lady said I could use the screwdrivers on the tables... I said can I just drop off and have y'all fix or replace them? That's when she told me that would take a day or two and I could fix it myself faster and for free. Omg seriously!!! For the love of god I just want to drop my board off for a repair or new ones (which is more money I'm spending) take a hot shower and get some freaking heat in my room! Is that to much to ask from a Ski resort with "deluxe Rooms" to offer? There are a few more disappointing and dissatisfied "happenings" that occurred this weekend such as my 12 yr old hearing you're slope attendants swearing at guest, rude staff, the wood burning fireplace trying to kill us, no tubing passes available, etc.... but I won't go into further detail as I have taken up enough of your time and have already came to the general conclusion that you genuinely don't care about your guest . I'll leave you with this; we booked 4 rooms, a total of 10 people and were ready to have a great time with great food, a great "deluxe" room and a great staff on a great mountain. In the end the only thing that didn't disappoint was the mountain. I won't be back and I will steer everyone I talk to from now on away from Snowshoe and to Canaan valley. Sincerely, J Flynn Room 5114 silver creek

We stayed in a room in the Expedition Station, which is in the central village. At 6AM trucks started driving outside the room with loud beeping as they reversed. This continued all through the morning and could be heard anywhere throughout the central village. The room is adequate and very old. It is poorly lit. I would certainly not call it a resort stay. It has a kitchenette, which is nice. The spa is booked through the next 6 weeks. Only one of the restaurants here answered the phone and the rest require you to walk to the restaurant and order your takeout in person. You can forget room service. The check-in process involved driving to the opposite end of the resort with only 1 person checking in the entire village, which consists of multiple mini-hotels. Check in took an hour. Recommended for a ski trip for the day, not for an overnight stay.

The lift has scanners that read the lift ticket and there are 2 sets of gates; this did seem to confuse some of the people in the lift line; I did see quite a bit of difficulty with people getting on and off the lift. The runs off the top of the mountain are a nice mix, 2 double blacks, 2 blacks, 3 blues and a long beginner green run. All of the runs give you 1000 feet of vertical; more then enough to give you a nice run, and plenty of challenge. Everything except for 1 double black run was groomed with good snow coverage. The runs have a nice variety, more than enough to make for a fun and invigorating day of skiing for intermediate and advanced skiers. A couple of notes, the bathrooms are conveniently located in the lodge without having to go to another level from the back of the lodge. If coming down the skiers right of the mountain you want to keep up some speed to make it all the way to the lift. Having 1 lift that is the only way to most of the mountain means that when there are issues with the lift stopped the lift line can get a bit longer then desired, but they managed to keep things moving for most of the day. Timberline is a very nice affordable option to ski or board in WV. Very nice for a day or two, although there is probably not much challenge for expert skiers. The 1000 feet of vertical and high speed lift make the mountain ski like a larger resort. Easy to navigate and affordable it is well worth considering for part of your ski trip in the area.
