This one star is based on the fact that our room was nice, the pool was definitely a BIG winner... but that's it! The staff, whether in the hotel or the silver-creek slopes, were completely unknowledgeable about their product, obviously lacking training. I saw a 6 year old in a lesson go on a four person with 1 adult and 3 kids... he fell off and not at the beginning. We ended up having to take him, crying because he fell too far past the start and could not get back-on the lift with his teacher and friends - I had a kid in classes at the time, it was terrible and considering their were 2 other employees right there who could have helped the teacher, unconscionable. On snowshoe - Christmas day, we saw a lift operator sleeping - yes, sleeping - we woke him up!
Rarely in our 6 nights, did anyone have an answer and more rarely did someone try to find the answer for us rather than the other way around. To boot - the housecleaners took our reusable bags that came with us to bring food (what their purpose is) - they happened to be sitting out in the small kitchen and I guess they thought they were trash... what's that about? The slopes were nice but they were less important than the slopes at Snowshoe as you can imagine, which if there is not much snow, which their wasn't before we came, makes you go to Snowshoe rather than stay on-site.
And MOST NOTABLY there is only ONE restaurant (apart from the ski food court) - this restaurant is run by a manager who by all accounts throughout the property, and my own witness during my ONE and only time I ate there and will ever eat there, was rude and beyond unfriendly to customers. It is a real problem when you think the manager of a place could possibly spit in your food, doesn't quite make you have the warm and fuzzies about going back. In addition, when the people who work for him make comments about how they work for 14 hours with no break because of him and then other workers say "imagine how I feel working for him," it also ruins the luster of SC entirely. Then, to find out this same manager - SAM COLLINS, is also the HOA president. Moreover, somehow people are confused and think he runs the entire Silver Creek Resort (including him, who said so when I asked him to save mine and my kids ears and turn the music down a-bit) but then others at SC said he didn't - it was weird that some thought he ran the place and others didn't - kind of a need-to-know kind of thing from employees. Anyway, it was all very, very odd and very, very displeasing as I was FORCED to go to Snowshoe by shuttle for every decent meal, period! And, that makes SC and never go back to again kind of place.
I think that SC should hire decent, honorable management (as I've read online since my stay seems to be an overriding issue and complaint by patrons and ex-employees alike). If you want decent patrons, provide decent management and train all the staff on knowing their product.
If you have kids, go to PA - Camelback, much better customer service than WV, Silvercreek. Snowshoe was better, but I'd still stay away from it compared to the service and quality in PA resorts.
I hope I've given you a good picture of what to expect at SC and at Snowshoe too. read more
