At 6:58 am, there was a line! It opens at 7. The staff were really friendly and fast. I got croissants, cinnamon rolls, and strawberry cream cheese croissants. I tried a croissant myself and took the others home for the family to try since they were the experts. The regular croissant was large, buttery, very flaky, and really good! The family were not impressed with their treats though. The feedback is that they took their croissant dough, tossed some cinnamon and sugar on top and called it a cinnamon roll. They said the strawberry cream cheese croissants could have used more filling. They all agreed that the croissant part was good though. So if you want to try something new, you may like this bakery. However, if you are a fan of the normal cinnamon rolls and danish like strawberry cream cheese treats, this is not for you.

So in the last two weeks, I've been back exactly four times. My first introduction was the Croissant Scramble with chicken and veggies inside, with the Arnold Palmer. My friend got the Croissant Scramble with brisket. The presentation of the croissants when brought to the table blew me away. It was wrapped up in the cutest paper with the ends twisted. The topic of conversation was how good the croissants were. Before we left, we ordered some delicious cookies. The chocolate chips were yummy. So I went the following day and grabbed some pastries! One in particular was the Pecan Bar. The following week, another friend and I stopped in for the Chicken Pesto Omelet. I like that the fire-roasted bell peppers and onions are cooked, if that's the right word. But l have to tell you, the Mexican Hot Chocolate drink brings on the flavor, as does the ice-cold Mocha. Of course, we got the Pecan Bar for dessert. So yes, I went back yesterday for the Almond Croissant. I know, I know!

Customers can't rely on what they see online -- or even the in-store menu. That's disingenuous. We won't be back. Very disappointing.

It was so hard to choose what to order, so I got milk and cookies ice cream, and a blondie. As I walked away, I wished I also tried one of their classic chocolate chip cookies. That's what I'll need to go back for next time! The blondie was good, but their chocolate chip cookies looked better. I'm now piecing together that they're associated with Tiny Boxwoods, a restaurant I'd heard of before. Their whole complex of white buildings feels like a peaceful little retreat in the middle of the city. We took my blondie to Pease Park (and I ate the ice cream on the drive there), but next time I'd want to simply stay in the neighborhood to eat it.

Which is not acceptable and a waste of time. To compensate they gave me a cookie but the service needs major improvement bc they also got the couple next to me's order wrong. Overall I tried it and probably won't be coming back. It's objectively good but nothing stands out. There are plenty of other places in Austin to get your sweet treat fix. There are so many different options and fillings, so there's definitely something for everyone. I think the bakery is run by an older couple who make everything themselves. One thing to know: despite what some of the photos might suggest, there is no actual seating area where you can sit down and eat. You'll need to take everything to go. We originally thought we could sit and enjoy the pastries there because we saw photos with a table and chairs, so I wanted to mention this for anyone planning a visit. Everything we tried was fresh, soft, and delicious. I definitely recommend giving this place a try! Just make sure to check the names and fillings beforehand so you know what you're getting. The inside is super small and only meant for ordering, but it was cool getting to see the masters at work preparing the food (don't film or photographer the employees though as there is a sign not to do so). There is a decent amount of seating via small tables and benches behind the restaurant, in front, and along the sides. Customer service was good! Their patio area was FILTHY: tables with dirt and crumbs, napkins on the floor, grime. It was just gross. Then, in the very small space inside where you order, somebody brought in a massive slobbering dog (NOT a service dog) and the staff were completely blasé about it. So not so much into health codes here apparently. We each ordered a taiyaki, and also got 3 macarons and 2 donuts. The ube macaron had great flavor but was completely stale, so it sucks that they are serving old food. The vanilla-passionfruit and yuzu were much better (and fresher). As for the chocolate donut, we liked the flavor but we're not the biggest fans of mochi because something the texture makes it feel like you're eating something raw. Same issue with the pumpkin donut. We do have to say that the taiyakis were awesome. We had recently tried SomiSomi and these ones were definitely better. The "fish" has a great balance of chew and crisp, and we loved the consistency of the soft serve. One of us got the pumpkin and it had such a pleasant light flavor to it that wasn't cloying or artificial. So good. One of us had to get ube and black sesame in a cup because you couldn't swirl them and both flavors were delicious, as was the unique red bean paste (which we fell for when we were in Japan this past summer). If not for the sanitary conditions and semi-catatonic workers, this would be four stars. We can see ourselves coming back again at some point, and hopefully they can train their staff to clean up, smile, and not let customers bring filthy animals into a confined space. Three stars for now.
