Recently took a trip to France and loved their authentic french baking. Brown bear is just as good. absolutely loved this place.

The most delicious carbs. It can get pretty busy in the morning on a holiday weekend, but the service is quick and it's worth the wait. You get to see them mixing, kneading, and baking all of their products. You may as well just go here, since many of the restaurants on the island just purchase their products anyways. The salmon quiche is so light and delicious, and the morning bun is a sweet treat. Skip the filled croissants, they're amazing all on their own. It's a must for your stay on the island. read more

One of the best eateries on Orcas Island and one of the only places we make an effort to return to. Pastries are all awesome but the various croissants stand out. The chocolate muffins are straight up chocolate cake in muffin form. The Croque Monsieurs (ham and cheese on toast) are great. So basically everything is good. Add in good coffee and great, friendly service and you got yourself a winner! read more

Hello, Their food is fresh, absolutely delicious and the service is warm friendly and inviting. I am fortunate to have had great friends who are chefs and were wonderful at what they did, (i.e. cook and bake). Loved this place the moment we set foot on the front porch. Modern yet cozy decor inside with amazingly, delectable treats tempting you from the front counter. We enjoyed an americano and latte (yummy Victrola coffee), both of which were perfectly made with love; staff were over the top friendly. Awesome service. Great, afternoon vibe on a rainy winter's day in February. Look forward to returning tomorrow and again on our next trip to Orcas. read more

Watched the puff pastry being made on Saturday, this morning my wife, who is a pastry chef picked up a pain au chocolat and a ham & cheese crescent. Best crescents since our trip to Paris 3 years ago. Had to get another cup of coffee and a scone before we left for the ferry. Great Bakery! read more

Sweet little bakery. Delicious pastries and Victrola coffee. Never thought I would be so excited about a currant scone, but it was so good and still warm. We went in the morning, shortly after opening and got two pastries, two coffees and a loaf of bread to go. Pricey, especially at $10 for the bread, which blew my mind, but we were on vacation and enjoying ourselves. My husband and I visit Orcas 4-5 times a year, and each time we go, friends and relatives ask us to bring them back some pastries from Brown Bear. One look at their mouth watering selection will convince the most selective sweet tooth and discerning tourist that this is the place to be for your breakfast quiche, mid-day sticky bun or late night danish. The sight of the kitchen buzzes with their team of bakers preparing the next delightful recipes. Their menu of hot from the oven goodies changes from time to time to include wonderful soups and artisan breads as well. Located in the town square with indoor and outdoor seating, Brown Bear is a must see (and taste) destination while visiting Eastsound. In a word... Yum! read more

We stopped in for an afternoon snack, and were blown away by the friendliness and the baked goods. Although they had just run out of savory lunch stuff, David (owner) chatted us up and organized a new run of croque monsieurs and kept us happy with a cookie and good conversation while we waited. Great atmosphere, tasty bites and coffee. We made sure to stop in again the next day. The place looks like it was just transplanted from the trendiest (but friendliest) Seattle neighborhoods, which is meant as a compliment. It's very rare to really get the feel that someone loves their business so much, and it's infectious. Will definitely go back when next on the island. read more

This was one of the best mochas that I have had in a really long time. My girlfriend and I both got drinks here, and we also got a pastry to split. This place is a true gem! My husband and I love bread and pastries and have eaten them in some of the best places all over the globe. This place is right up there with them, if not better. Care, precision and optimal local ingredients go into all their products. Their bread is crusty, yeasty, soft and delicious. Don't even get me started on their pastries. Their quiche is buttery, light and fluffy and uses seasonal vegetables. Their Kougin Aman, pain au chocolat, croissant and peach pastry? You would trade your Husband for just a bite. The space is quaint and inviting, the owners are welcoming and friendly and they are truly passionate and care about what they are making. We live on the mainland, but this wonderful bakery will keep us coming back to Orcas island! read more

Nearly $40 for two coffees and pastries? Our pastries weren't even warm. I know being on an island things cost more, but not this much. Service was OK, but it would have been nice to know they are cash only before being rung up. Espresso was good, but not worth the price tag. read more

We were on Orcas Island for only 2 days and we made sure to get 2 visits in. Their savory monkey bread was a revelation. The yeasty buttery bread hid chunks of fatty ham, green onions and grainy mustard in its swirls. The innards were moist and velvety while the exterior was beautiful browned with delicious caramelized crunch. I kept on smelling the dough because it smelled so good. It was perfect to share with another person in order to try another item. Their coffee and tea drinks were on point. I loved the green ice tea they made us by freshly brewing the tea for every order. It was such a treat on the hot afternoon. On the second visit, the savory scone was also delicious. Again, great job at getting the outside crunch while retaining the moisture on the inside. The morning bun was a rich sugary concoction that felt like what would happen if you made a cinnamon roll with croissant dough and without the cinnamon. It was delightful with a black coffee. They have an open kitchen design and you can happily watch cakes getting decorated and breading pudding being made. Great seating both indoor and outdoor. This place has the goods. People were lined up at 7:50 for their 8 am opening. I'm happy to report I was second in line. Worth a stop if you're ever on the island. read more

This is an absolutely "Must Visit" place if you are visiting Orcas! My wife and I have now been to this bakery about 6-7 times during out last two visits there. All of the items are simply too good to pass on. Salmon quiche, savory scones, Sasquatch cookie, bread pudding and a bread topped with ham, cheese and asparagus are our top favorites. They have outdoor seating and a perfect place to have a breakfast in Eastaound. David, one of the owners, does an absolutely fabulous job creating the fabulous bakery items. Bon Apetit! This place is fantastic. The ham and cheese croissant was the perfect breakfast before exploring the island this morning. Their lattes are also quite wonderful. Nowhere to sit inside but there is a great view of the kitchen while ordering where you can see all the fresh goods coming out of the oven and the pounds of fresh butter about to become delicious pastries. As long as it's a nice day there is a lovely garden area with benches and picnic tables to sit as you watch people going about their business in the quaint little town. Highly recommended. read more

On our first visit to Orcas Island, we were in need of a good cup of coffee and found it here. Twice in two days! The staff were incredibly helpful, welcoming and friendly. The baked goods looked amazing and as we are gluten-free, we assumed that there was nothing for us. What a surprise to find that their blueberry muffins are gf! My brother and I stayed in Eastsound in May 2017 while biking Orcas Island for two days. Best part of each ride - without question - was sitting in the garden by the bakery after the ride, with a great cup of coffee and fresh pastry. They bake throughout the day; service is the best; and the view on Eastsound is excellent. Wish it were closer to my home (Chicago)! read more
