Absolutely incredible. Friendly and welcoming staff, TOP notch pastries, and a lovely indoor and outdoor atmosphere. Sad they were only open on the last day of our stay, but well worth the wait!

Brown Bear Baking is a delightful bakery. We visited Orcas Island over Memorial Day Weekend and must have stopped by BBB at least 3 times. The staff members were so friendly. We loved the peanut butter sandwich cookies.

Love this bakery! We came here for a birthday trip and I picked up a little fruit tart as a birthday treat. It was perfectly sweet with fresh fruit, tasted fresh even though I picked it up later in the day! We came back here the following day for coffee and pastries and had a wonderful time. The pastries are delicious, some of the best I've ever had. There is an outdoor seating area as well, dog friendly so we enjoyed the sunny space with our puppy. Overall, I'll definitely be back. Happy eating!

i do not have enough good things to say about Brown Bear Baking pastries were absolutely amazing. our whole group went back for extra pastries for the rest of our trip. who says i can't have five chocolate muffins on vacation?! (will never stop thinking of those muffins ) dave was so kind and welcoming and made us feel at home. i cannot wait to return to orcas. i feel so inspired to emulate the kindness we were shown at my own hotel & cafe at home

Wow wow wow! If you're on Orca's Island this is a must stop place! From our delicious vanilla and hazelnut lattes to the mouth water salmon & veggie quiches, to the crisp and delicious Pain au Chocolat (chocolate pastry) everything was delightful. The croissant that had me coming back for more every time though was the croissant pêche! It was the perfect balance of fresh fruit and sweet pastry. The staff was kind and offered recommendations of their favorite dinner spots on the island. The vibe of the bakery was welcoming and had indoor and outdoor seating! The only "downside" was they had a smaller menu at the bakery than we found online. This may have been due to the fact we went on the first day it had reopened after winter break though. All in all this is a must stop place!

    So many pastries!

This came highly recommended by the internet. The internet was right. The croissants were so soft and flaky and wonderful. They had multiple types. We got a spinach and feta as well as a ham and cheese. Both were fantastic. Coffee and chai were both perfect. The staff was super nice and efficient. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well as to go containers. Perfect spot to read a book while drinking your coffee or have a nice time with a friend. 10/10 recommend.

After an eventful and beautiful camping trip at Moran State Park, we stopped here for some breakfast treats before heading back on the ferry to Anacortes. It's nestled right in the heart of the small downtown area, and it's hard to miss with a decent courtyard of people all enjoying the yummy treats in the sun. So many yummy looking treats on display. As you can see phone did not eat first here. It was so delicious! Ham and Swiss croissant so savory so flaky and the peach croissant was so good so balanced and also flaky. Service was super kind. We got a black coffee as well and you get a free refill before 4pm. A must stop on the island!

Relatively long line for 8:20 on a Friday but they were efficient. Super cute bakery with absolutely delicious food. Surprised my how many veggies were packed in

The (often long) line is there for a reason! Think: temptation in the form of buttery scents; eager visitors and locals alike; pastries, quiche, and sandwiches crafted with artistry; and fulfillment on the first bite. (The coffee is pretty darn good as well!) Add: a beautiful team often seen delivering smiles to customers. An irresistible island stop.

How about a cheerful greeting along with an astounding array of baked goods worth a 6am inter island ferry? Oh heck yeah. I have been waiting since prior to Covid to stand in this line first thing in the morning to experience pastry perfection and let me just tell you. The case was as beautiful as it was delicious. Outstanding g warm and friendly staff and baked goods that qualify as divine experiences. Oh yes. Worth the wait and lived up to my memory.

The menu is highly miss leading from the yelp post, especially for the menu pricing. Online price…read moreis $10 for my French toast of 3 slices but current menu has 4 slices for 12. Also traditional Texas toast for French toast is nice and thick, these slices are paper thin. And the overall batter lacks flavor. The side ham for $4.50 is not worth it as the ham is paper thin and maybe 2.5-3 ounces. Whereas off island the ham would be 1-3-1/2 inch thick and 5-6 ounces. Ham should also be juicy, but B.C. this is so thin it's almost like Jerky would be, and very salty. When you go into a cafe that says Organic Orange Juice you are thinking fresh squeezed, this is obviously not the case here, definitely tastes no different than the Minute Maid I get for home. The coffee is not very strong either tastes a little watered down and a slight bit chemically from maybe them not cleaning the machine very well. Service is very lacking as well. Other than taking my order the server never came to my table again not even to see if I needed a coffee refill Would not recommend this as a place to stop when visiting Eastsound.

We only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated and the service was quick. We had good orange and cranberry juice. The breakfast burritos were BIG and filled to the brim. I had l pico, and avocado to my ham burrito and my wife added the same plus sour cream. It was reasonably priced and delicious! We were only able to eat half of our burritos which the waitstaff could tell, so they brought us a few pieces of follow with a chuckle to take home the leftovers.

Menu is somewhat limited to 5 or 6 starters, and only 3 pizzas for mains. Our food was OK, but it just tried too hard to be different. When half the descriptions on a menu item need either a thesaurus or an explanation from the waiter, the chef is just trying too hard. We had the hay smoked tuna, which came wrapped in an oversized lettuce leaf, and a two line description. It was good, but nothing like I expected from the waiter's description. It was raw, which I love, but not as described on the menu. Then we had a salad with "garlic toast" which was nothing more than toasted bread crumbs browned just this side of being burnt. The salad wasn't tossed, so it was only after a few bites that we found the dressing drizzled on the bottom of the plate, hidden beneath the greens. The burnt crumbs overwhelmed the little dressing we could dig up, so the salad was not good. Finally, we also had the Poh Tah Toh Pizza, which was both dry and burnt. Wood fired pizza with a little charring is OK, but our crust was fully burnt about 2 inches in from the edge. I didn't care for the honey on my pizza, though my wife liked this twist. Wine by the glass is limited, but they do have an extensive bottle list, but only of foreign wine. We had a nice Chianti blend, but the dregs had a chunky sediment that ruined that last sip. Again, this may be the best food on the island, but the menu just missed the mark for this foodie.

We had reservations and got a great table at the window, looking out over the water. Problem was, the windows were filthy with sea salt grime which really obscured the view. If waterside dining is your big appeal, clean the windows! Waiter arrived with menus but not a word. Not to be deterred, I asked him how he was doing. "Oh, I'm really tired after a long weekend." and he shuffled off without a smile. Throughout the dinner, I tried to engage with him, and it turns out he is the Front Manager for the resort, and while he brightened up a little when we asked about him, he didn't show any attention or interest in us, which is just careless service. Food was mixed. We had steamed clams & an order of ciabatta for starters. Clams were OK, but the broth lacked any distinctive flavor. It could have been broth out of a can. Bread was just bread, nothing special. We shared the Bucatini with prosciutto in cream sauce for our main, and it was wonderful. But at $38 for a plate of pasta, it better be. Which speaks to the greater menu, where most the mains are from $40-$50. They can charge that because there are no other options in Doe Bay, but this food is not worth that price. Finally, their wine selection is embarrassingly small. 4 whites and 4 reds, no Chardonnay and no Cab. Really disappointing. Considering all the other rave reviews, if you are already in Doe Bay, and since there are no other options, you'll get a decent meal here, but I wouldn't drive to the far end of the island to pay these prices for a limited menu with tired, mediocre service.
