I had just dropped my boyfriend off at the airport and was feeling pretty bummed driving home, as we're starting long distance and I don't know when I'll see him again. I decided to stop and get coffee from somewhere new to cheer myself up (new coffee shops fix everything obviously) and wanted to find somewhere that wasn't in my neighborhood or downtown. Enter Brother Joe: the savior of my day. This place is a little off the Seattle beaten path in the Georgetown neighborhood, but if you have a little time to get here it's worth the visit. Not only is it a coffee, pastry, and sandwich shop, but they also have a small market inside with local goods when you need to grab a few things. From candles and spices/cooking oils to alcohols, syrups, and even a deli counter, they have everything you need to get you through your morning as well as the evening hours. Unfortunately I was a little distracted when I went in and didn't take as many pictures as I should have, so you'll just have to trust me that you'll want to come back as soon as your first visit is over. There is some comfy seating for when indoor things open back up, but right now it's just takeout. Staff wears masks all the time and has a Square chip reader so you don't have to give them your card to swipe. Things are well sanitized, and they even have a station for lids and straws which I appreciated. I'm an iced coffee all the time type of girl, but sometimes I like the hot coffee lid. Brother Joe is a gem of a brunch spot and Georgetown is becoming one of my favorite food neighborhoods in Seattle. Came with 2 friends on a Saturday and we arrived around noon. Parking can be difficult around this area and I had to street park a little ways away. The biggest downside of the experience was that we were told a 30 min to 45 min wait at the most for a table, and ended up waiting around 1 hour + 20 mins to get seated. However I will say that the food and overall experience were worth the wait and I can understand why they are so popular/busy. Even though we weren't seated until 30 minutes before closing time, our server was really sweet and didn't make us feel rushed in the slightest. To start, we all opted for the mimosa/bloody mary/red beer bar which imo is a really good deal at $15 for 3 drinks max. With the toppings they have available you can make yourself deluxe drinks which would probably cost you ~$10 each elsewhere. For food I had a hard time deciding because the menu has a lot of amazing sounding options, and I went with the crab benedict and I'm really happy I did. The crab cakes had a lot of crab meat (some crab cakes are mostly filler and so disappointing) and tasted fresh and delicious. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise was probably one of the best I've ever had! This place has potential, cool decor and vibe, unique coffee drinks, and some healthier food options. However, the service fell short and I'm hoping it was just a bad day for them. Came in during the weekday during a work lunch and probably not the wisest idea if your in a time crunch. While, there were other customers it was definitely not packed so was surprising we had to wait so long to order and then wait even longer for the food to arrive. I ordered the Egg Coffee and while that did come out fast, it was half a cup and she said they ran out of the egg foam but will make more and bring me a new cup. That new cup never came and later they came back said they don't have time to make the egg foam so they will not charge me for the coffee. When the food finally arrived, the California Salad was light and refreshing. We also had the chicken pita with side of apple salad. The flavor on the pita was wonderful but chicken a bit on the dry side. However, the side Apple salad was delicious and probably could have just ordered an entree size of that. Came for lunch with three friends today. One is on a strict diet no carbs and lean meat. Three of us had specialty coffee drinks and one an Americano. I had the hemp Holy Mole Mocha, one of my friends had the Off White Velour and I believe one of my friends had an iced cardamom late. I appreciated the waitresses honesty when I asked if the barista on duty did good latte art and she's said no. One of my friends went with the The Basic, had the. California Salad and added chicken for $2 extra and the last had Caesar salad with no bacon or cheese and he added chicken as well. I had the Verde delicious and eggs were cooked perfectly. Worked well served over the cornbread love that there was pickled radish the acid balanced the richness of the pork. We had great service the waitress was attentive and helpful. The sundries are diverse higher end products you don't need but you probably want. There are books, bar items, quirky cards, planters. The coffee is good. Stopped in today for the first time in a while. It looks like they switched back to more of a restaurant/seating format after running a cafe/gift shop format for a few years (likely due to covid). It is counter service so you order at the counter and take your items to the table in takeout containers. This seems to help keep the prices lower than other places. It could be a great spot for a larger brunch group without having to wait a long time or make a reservation. I had the Chilaquiles bowl which was tasty and huge! Could easily serve two. Super cute space. Love the vibe and Decor, with one area being like a living room in another like a general Cafe. Menu board for coffee is pretty cute and awesome. I decided on a honey miso latte, which was pretty good. My friend got a mocha which did not have much chocolate flavor in it and was a little bitter and watered down, so she had to get a little bit more chocolate added. I like the fact that they aim to partner with and support ethical coffee, cultivation and practices tho! Food wise, I ordered a veggie Phoenix wrap based upon the recommendation of the cashier. The kale, cranberries, and tofu was seasoned well, very filling and worked well together. The wrap itself actually was toasted and tasted quite good... different from typical wraps I've had. However it felt like the wrap was missing something and I had to relook at the menu to see that it didn't come with the avocado it was supposed to... so they rectified that for the second half I had leftover. This place has received some nods around town lately for its posh atmosphere, but I first heard about it through my coworker. Her friends are the owners, and they apparently came to open it via their catering business. So I thought why not give it a shot, try somewhere new. Well... I won't be chatting with her about it... We sat outside and watched some guy struggle to eat his plate of food seated at the couch in the front living room-style area. And then we all wondered why the hell they have a front living room-style area. It's a big space with (if I remember correctly) two window seats (didn't look comfortable) a chair, and a small couch. Besides the dude strugglin' there was one woman in the chair, drinking a mimosa. They could fit like three more tables in that space, but nooo gotta go for chic and make the line longer. Onto the coffee... My one friend got drip and complained that they charge for refills. Fair. The rest of us got fancy drinks off of their aesthetically pleasing, infographic-style drink menu. I got the Oh, Miso Honey, which tasted like a plain latte. So, so bummed. Where's my orange blossom, miso, caramel flavor I paid for?? Someone had the egg coffee. Tasted good at first, then was just regular coffee. Someone else had the macchiato. Good. Food... Two of us ordered the veggie hash. Two got the classic. Everyone was underwhelmed. The classic wasn't seasoned at all, even the scrambled eggs. No flavor. Tasted like they were catered (hmm). She didn't even finish the bacon because the texture wasn't quite right. My veggie hash was fine, but I could have made it myself. It's clear most of the veggies area just sheet roasted and held in a container all morning. The textures weren't great. The biggest disappointment: the potatoes. They all tasted like they'd been made the day before, then sat in a refrigerated container forever. Mealy, no crunch, dry. Terrible. This review is based solely on customer service that I recently experienced with Brother Joe or there lack of. I've had Brother Joe bookmarked on my collections as a place I wanted to visit. I contacted them via their Instagram on Wednesday 2/12/20 to see if they would be open on 2/17/20 (President's Day), as you can see from their response, they said they would be open. On Monday at about noon, my friends and I drove pass Brother Joe's to find parking on the street. As we passed the store front, I noticed that the lights were off and there didn't seem to be any sign of anyone. As we parked, I called the number listed as Brother Joe's and the phone kept ringing. No one picked up. I called back again 2 more times and the line wouldn't connect anymore. My friend tried calling on her phone and she had the same "this call cannot be completed at this time." We were so excited to try brunch here but was greatly disappointed. We quickly scrambled to find another place to grab brunch and made a call just to be sure. Calls to other places went through so it wasn't our phones that weren't connecting. I won't ever know if the food and "service" are great here. OMG YES. Oh Brother Joe, where have you been all my life? This is the best hidden brunch spot in south Seattle. Hands down. I discovered Brother Joe when googling pancake restaurants in the area. Their menu boasted "fluffy cakes" which I was immediately excited about. These pancakes are BOMB. They are essentially thick and fluffy squares of pancake covered in syrup, berries, and home made whipped cream. Home made! I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I've only personally ordered the fluffy cakes, but I've had friends order their savory breakfast dishes as well. Everything is always wonderful. Each time I go to Brother Joe, I also look forward to having an espresso or specialty drink. The coffee drinks are always delicious, unique, and typically come with a fun design on the foam on top. The gentleman had himself the Off-White Velour (he thoroughly enjoyed his choice as well). FOODwise: We enjoyed ourselves the Chile Verde Plate and the Fluffy Cakes. Perfect share for salty and sweet. Our girlfriend had the Avocado Toast with Tofu Scramble. We took her food to-go and I really enjoyed the salad that came with her plate. I was walking by and was just going to stop in for a coffee, but it was lunchtime and there was a BLAT on the menu, which is always a draw for me. So I got it and I have to say, it might possibly be the best BLAT I've ever had. Definitely up there. Brother Joe is a hot mess. I had a friend in town, so I called ahead to ask how easy it would be to snag a table. The lady on the line laughed at me. What? When we arrived, the place didn't match the Yelp photos. The tables in the photos had been replaced by shelves of overpriced tchotchkes. I placed our order to go since seating was impossible. The guy who took the order wasn't very clear about how or when the food would come out. It was a long wait. During the wait, the lady, who I assume answered the phone, yelled out "Americano that's not a drip." this is a welcome addition to Georgetown's lunchtime eats seen! the place used to be in the space were Two Tarts bakery/cafe used to be. the interior and layout is entirely different with really high ceilings and a modern feel. stuff tried: impossible burgers: i like to dress mine up with cheese (havarti or cheddar) and top it with a fried egg! thr ciabatta like bun is a nice touch. cheesy grits: seriously, this is some of the best cheesy grits i have ever had! the sprinkle of roasted sweet corn kernals on top makes it more 'corny' and delicious! cauliflower and mushroom soup: soup options vary daily. this one is amazing. creamy and yummy they have a large selection of coffee creation options and use beans from Herkimer roasters so you know its good quality stuff. the only unfortunate thing is they are mostly open for lunch and close pretty early (2p) on most days so plan accordingly read more

My first time here was over a year ago and I just remember their grab and go breakfast menu, which was small. A year later, they have expanded their menu, especially for the weekend brunch. Their weekend brunch is when you need to come (9am to 2pm). They offer a full service brunch with a cocktail bar. Braised Short Rib, Biscuits & Gravy, The Basic and Fluffy Cakes are all winners. In fact, pretty much everything is great. The flavors are delicious! I have a sweet tooth so Fluffy Cakes for me! It's a twist of pancakes/ french toast topped with fresh berries and whip cream. It comes drizzled with maple syrup and it's perfect! So good that I dream about it. ^____^ I love their coffee too. I've had the Americano and it's not overly bitter like Starbucks. Aside from the long wait (because this place is that good), everything was amazing. The menu is expansive and has a lot of options but at the same time not overwhelming. I ordered the holy mole mocha with almond milk (sort of lacking in the flavors they mentioned but still fine), fluffy cakes (amazing, moist, fluffy, not drenched in syrup, fruit fresh and vibrant, whipped cream amazing as well), and veggie hash (super fresh and seasonal, veggies still had a crunch to them, sauce was a little heavy but good and flavorful. Potato's were perfect, super crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside). My friend got the short rib hash and the meat was a little chewy but not bad. Overall, experience was super good. The wait is long for the food and when the food did come out, two of the dishes were luke warm. The other two were steaming hot though! We ordered the basic, the chili Verde, half order of the biscuits and gravy, and crab cakes egg Benedict. If you order items like the chili Verde, those may take longer. The basic and the biscuits and gravy were the lukewarm items. Taste wise, the food was delicious but, I wish the wait was not so long and the food came out a bit hotter. If you like unique coffee, I recommend the oh honey miso. It's made with espresso and miso caramel. It has a small hint of that miso and it really does mellow the bitterness of the espresso. read more

Baristas need a round of customer service training. The barista, Chelsea, seemed to only think talking to her regulars respectfully was the priority. Seeing her warmth towards them and her coldness towards me when I walked up was pretty stark. I know we're in hard times and want to give some slack--but I had a similar experience with another barista before this who worked here.
