The quality has not wavered once. I ordered what I always order: The Combo (fried eggs, maplewood smoked bacon, cheese, brioche toast), extra egg, extra bacon. Most kitchens treat a fried egg as binary (runny or ruined). Songbird has mastered the middle register: lacy edges with a yolk that stays glossy and intact right up until the first bite. I ordered them over hard, and they came out a bit closer to over medium, but they were just as good as I wanted them to be. The bacon carries real smoke. This is a decadent sandwich, big enough that half of it would make a light breakfast; I wasn't remotely hungry after one, the second half was indulgent. The service made the move too. The hostess still recognizes returning customers, and the bigger room finally lets the dining experience breathe. The service at the table could have been a little warmer as we've had it the past, but it is still professional. I was there with two close college buddies, one of whom declared his latte excellent. So this past Sunday, I took advantage of their Brunch. I started my Sunday breakfast with an adult beverage. Their Bloody Mary, has just enough spice to give it a good kick to start your morning. I don't know about you, but I always have to have a cup of coffee as a chaser for my Bloody. I take mine black and strong, to get through the entire day. For my entree, I built my own Omelette with, Spinach, Bacon, Onion and Cheddar Cheese. It was a light golden yellow and was filled with a generous amount of my chosen ingredients. As a side, it came with crispy potato wedges and a small cup of ketchup for dipping. The two paired together, made for an excellent Sunday Brunch. I always sit at the bar, since I usually dine alone and the service was attentive. The bartender was personable and lead the entire bar into a good conversation. I'm glad to be back in STL and I am super glad that my new condo is closer to Polite Society than my last home was. I'm confident I will be once again, be a regular.

One hot with almond milk, one iced with oat milk and one hot with 1/2 and 1/2. The coffee came out and 2 "milks" were placed in front of us and our waiter moved on. While it is not likely the norm, the owners, Mark & Leslie, met us at the front door, quite literally inviting us into their establishment. It was simply the most welcoming manner in which to be introduced to this treasure and Leslie quickly engaged us with the history of the home and how she and Mark had recently become the owners. We chose this destination based upon the significance of the Fleur-de-lis to my love, a native New Orleanian. Given St. Louis' rich French heritage, the mansion was originally outfitted with four chimneys that feature the fleur-de-lis design and the pattern is repeated throughout the home. While we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee in the back of the property, a lovely shaded patio area, she noticed how many places the symbol was present. She actually made mention to Mark & Leslie that they could make an activity out of counting/finding all of the fleur-de-lis around the home. What a fun idea! We were fortunate enough to book the Tower Grove Park room, a spacious room fitted with a king-size bed and a two-person jacuzzi tub. There is even a 'fainting couch' for that extra French touch! The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor and accoutrements were exceptional, right down to the pocket doors and writing desk. But a B&B is set apart by the fare served in the morning, and this is where Mark, a chef by trade, and Leslie, a self-taught baker, knock it out of the park. That morning's menu included a fruit starter, fresh juice, Leslie's home-baked sourdough toast and home-baked English muffins, and Mark's egg and sausage soufflés with country potatoes. The entire breakfast had us completely over the moon! We felt so at home that we wanted to clear our own place - so we did! The rates are competitive and well worth every moment spent here. There is parking behind the property, as well as across from the property, and each guest is allowed a unique security code so as to gain entry while you are enjoying your stay. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this getaway, and Mark, Leslie, & assistant Sammy made us feel like family from the moment we crossed the threshold. We'll be back - and you should give Fleur-de-Lys a try!
