Spicy Crispy Chicken, Spicy Wings, Fries

'Twas disappointing I got the spicy chicken sandwich with scratch sauce & my partner got spicy wings & fries. The fries hit. Crispy, hot, and they have some type of house seasoning on them..good stuff. Now this spicy chicken was another story. Remember those school lunch chicken sandwiches..those are the vibes but spicy as hell. No flavor just spice same with the wings just spice. Idk I expected spicy with flavor, I just sat there with a spicy mouth couldn't taste nothing but spicy. Adding the scratch sauce helps but ehhh. The disappointment was in the food not the service, cashier was great. Helpful young fella etc. etc.

Grabbed Chicken Scratch at the Foundry last night before a movie! There wasn't too big of a line and after we ordered, it only took 10 minutes or less to get our food. I got two chicken tenders with a side of fries and their ranch style sauce, and my boyfriend got the chicken caesar wrap - one of his favorite foods! The chicken tenders were very good and absolutely piping hot - took ages to cool down. I didn't try the wrap but he reported it was good but nothing extra special. The nice thing was that it was all extremely filling so it felt like we got our moneys worth! The ranch wasn't my favorite but I think that is a personal preference. The fries might have been the best part, I loved the seasoning! I'd happily go back.

I love the Foundry Food Hall and have been trying several venues within since I discovered. I had a hankering for wings, so when I saw Chicken Scratch's offering, I ordered the flavor they said would be the hottest. All that to say the 'unicorn' sauce was A) not hot and B) not that interesting. Considering they named it after something highly desirable but difficult to find or obtain...I was underwhelmed. Overall the wings were fine and drenched in sauce, but I'll probably try a different food stall next time if I get the same craving. Maybe I'll give the other items on the menu a try and update my review.

The location is inside the STL Foundry which is a newer food hall and entertainment venue. Order off the kiosk because this is a one man operation. Expect order to take up to 15 minutes if orders ahead. Pay by cash or card and can tip off the machine. They offer bottled drinks only. Sandwich was good! Crispy chicken, fresh pickles and can add sauces. Bun was average, but fresh. The staff friendly, but busy! I would return. 3.5 rounding up and would return.

The food was hot but the wings were so covered in a dry spicy rub they were not edible.... A waste of money for sure

I frequent the Foundry food hall and had yet to check out Chicken Scratch, since I'm not always in the mood for a chicken sandwich. But I do love a chicken caesar wrap, and I saw it on the menu. It wasn't one of the best ones I've ever had, it was very bland. Barely any dressing, and more croutons than chicken. I mean I do love croutons but still. The photo makes it look more full than it was, after a couple bites of each side, it was mostly tortilla and lettuce. For $13 ($22 after fries and a tip), I'll pass on the caesar wrap next time. But maybe I'll try a chicken sandwich. Service was meh. Only 2 people working, but it wasn't exactly a popping day at the Foundry. Employee at the counter barely said a word except for my total, he didn't seem particularly thrilled to see me, but I've worked customer service so I know we have off days.

How do you mess up chicken tenders? These were so dry our 2 year old (who loves chicken tenders) wouldn't even eat them. We returned them for a refund. As you can see, the breading on these is burnt and almost non existent. Seasoning is bland - just all around really not good. This is my 2nd time trying the place and both times was a major disappointment. Won't be back. It's fried chicken guys....have some pride in your product because this is embarrassing for STL.

Chicken Scratch Dry Rub. You can pick up at the restaurant!

I've been using Chicken Scratch Dry Rub on chicken and fish, and it's a total game-changer! It's bold and flavorful without being too much, and just the right amount of kick! I usually struggle with cooking fish (it never turns out quite right), but somehow this seasoning makes it taste like a pro made it. Honestly, it makes everything better. I throw it on and instantly feel like a chef!

The spicy and crispy chicken sandwich were both delicious. Not oily or messy , seasoned just right . Hot and fresh . So were the fries(crunchy and well seasoned ) and the coleslaw . Highly recommend the unicorn sauce (mix of hot sauce and house sauce ) . Service was great and food arrived quickly. They also have whole and half chicken . I would eat here for sure when I have a fried chicken craving . Located in the city foundry with lots of seating areas and communal tables . Will eat here again and again that's for sure.

It was okay. For $23-something I got the spicy chicken sandwich, large order of potato wedges and a can of Diet Coke. Whoopity. The sandwich was alright; didn't care much for the sauce it came with. I don't even know what was in it, but it was a little sweeter than I thought it was. I should have gotten a smaller order of wedges but I wasn't sure how big the portions were. I thought it was very pricey, but I gotta keep telling myself that these businesses probably pay high rent at the old Foundry, so... Service was okay. The curly haired Gen-Z'er dude wasn't that friendly, or maybe he just didn't want to be there. Anyway, thought I'd try this place out. Let's just say I've had better chicken sandwiches.

After multiple visits l am convinced this is my favorite chicken sandwich option in St. Louis. It is also a must to complete the meal with their jojo potatoes. It's the cut of the chicken for me! My go to is the crispy chicken sandwich with their SCRATCH Sauce! Honestly there are so many options of food to try in the City Foundry but l tend to stick with Chicken Scratch. I recommend if you are struggling with selecting where to go.

I'm basing my review on customer service and the convenience! I ordered sandwiches to be catered for an event at City Foundry. I needed something easy for folks to eat and enjoy while being able to stand/ stroll. I ended up ordering two trays of chicken salad sandwiches via email with the owner. I would assume they have an online ordering option as well, but I had some specific questions to ask, so I went the email route. Ordering was pleasant and simple, and I also ordered salad. It was ready to pick up, and the staff member helped me walk/ wheel my food to my event venue. Everyone was kind and super helpful. I didn't get a chance to eat them since I was working and they were gone by the end of the event, I take this as a great sign :) I also heard tons of great feedback! read more

This Foundry place is huge and too much to choose from. This chicken menu caught our eye. All homemade rubs and sauces. We had the wings with dry rub. Fries with dry rub and homemade ranch dressing. Wow very tasty and unique is a good way. The chicken was cooked perfect and fast. Just try e right temperature. The lady there. Guessing she was the owner explained the menu to us. read more

I first tried Chicken Scratch at the Wing Ding! Their wings were among my favorites. We were planning to order food for Thanksgiving and Chicken Scratch was mentioned in a few articles. We got their famous rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, sausage stuffing and green beans. Everything was delicious and we placed the order online and picked up at the Foundry location. They even provided instructions and everything was perfect. Great service! We will be back to eat at the Foundry and try their more traditional menu items. read more

I've been to Chicken Scratch a few times at the Foundry. The chicken sandwiches are really good and I like their mustard based sauce. I got the chicken strips special this trip with a side of wedge fries. The chicken strips were hot and fresh but all the breading crumbled off when you bite it. Not my fav but not bad. I really enjoyed the wedge fries I'll probably get those on the side of my chicken sandwich next time. read more

Service and speed were very good but I chose this restaurant based upon recommendation from lovefood.com and article from fox2. The spicy chicken sandwich maybe matches the Burger King chicken sandwich in quality. The pic on google was not at all reflective of the sandwich I got . It was very spicy which I liked but was very thin, not much chicken at all, and mostly breading. Way too expensive for what it is and nowhere close to a chick fil a or Popeyes sandwich. No way I'd recommend this sandwich. read more

While in St. Louis for business, we ate at the City Foundry Food Hall. Based on other reviews, I had high hopes for the chicken sandwich I ordered. Unfortunately, the sandwich was overcooked, thinner than expected, and over seasoned. Like other reviewers, I found their "Scratch" sauce to be a little heavy on the dill flavor and used it sparingly. The fries were also overseasoned IMHO. In hindsight, I wish I had tried their wings. : ( read more

Chicken Scratch is located in the City Foundry. The food all has an overwhelming dill flavor. If you don't LOVE dill - avoid eating here. I couldn't escape the dill in the multiple items I tried from wings to chicken tenders to fries. I don't mind dill but the amount on the food was too much for me. They offer some unique sauces but as stated before, be warned of the underlying (or overwhelming) dill flavor in all of them. read more

I absolutely love Chicken Scratch. The chicken caesar wrap is a go to but my favorite thing is ordering a whole chicken which lasts me an entire week! This is no grocery store scrawny chicken. This is the real deal like you would find on the streets of Paris. Trust me and grab one on your next visit you won't be disappointed. read more

The other night, I met up with some friends at City Foundry and decided to order from Chicken Scratch since I had not had them yet. Ordering was simple and the guy behind the counter was friendly. He explained their sauces to us since I needed more information on their flavors and while I was hoping to get 1/4 chicken, that was not an option. So, I ordered the 1/2 chicken knowing that I would need to share with my hubby. I opted for a side of the JoJo Potatoes. I asked for a side of the Horsey Mustard Sauce and then my husband asked for the Hot Sauce with his sandwich. We paid and gave them my number so that I could get a text when the food was ready for pick up. I like the places that have this system in place! After about 10 minutes, I got a text that our food was ready. When I went to pick everything up, it was all there and did look fresh and smelled great. I could not wait to eat. I noticed that they had some plastic forks, but no knives. And the napkins were just so thin. Since I could not find a knife at their booth, I wandered around looking for one at others and found one that was just okay. To be honest, I think most of the places at the CF need to invest in better quality plasticware and thicker napkins. When I started to eat the chicken, it was really good, but it was so messy. I am glad I grabbed a ton of napkins, but definitely needed more for my hands. This chicken was meant to be eaten with my hands and not with a fork and knife even though I tried. I think next time, I might order a sandwich or a salad since eating a half rotisserie chicken was just too messy for me. The sauce on the side was really good too. Just the right amount of sweet and tangy. read more

Hit up the Foundry on a Sunday afternoon for lunch at the food court. This food court is amazing, btw. Something for everyone. Having just read the write-up in Sauce Magazine recognizing Chicken Scratch as one of the best new restaurants of 2021 (I think), I was interested in trying the fabulous sounding Chicken Salad. Field greens, butternut squash, apples, almonds, with a roasted garlic dressing. I requested extra chicken since I'm a caveman and I love meat. It was fantastic, the tender, flavorful chicken was a perfect addition to what would already be a great salad. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the whole chicken! read more

My first time visiting this multi use space didn't disappoint. We stopped here for a tasty lunch and I was super impressed with the high quality of food at a low price point. The roasted chicken was juicy and meaty with the skin crispy. The portion sizes were huge and easy to share. We also tried the chicken salad sandwich. The pickled onions were generously applied and added a welcome tang to the creamy chicken salad with huge chunks of meat in a light sauce. I wish the bun had been toasted. Both of the side we tried were flavorful and I would order them again. The pasta salad was unique and the fries thick and hot with a super crispy outside. I can't was for my next visit to St. Louis to try more of these concepts. read more

Chicken scratch us located in the Cutu Foundry food hall. They were running a spring break special so I was able to try the chicken wings fir a reasonable price and added the fries. They have different options to choose from and several flavors for their chicken wings and tenders. I tried their signature dry rub that was a blend of garlic,lemon pepper, paprika and some other seasonings. It was really good but a little too salty for my taste. Overall the chicken was good fried crispy and the fries were seasoned. I was satisfied with my meal. I was able to order quickly and the food was made to order. I love crispy chicken sandwiches but had never tried Chicken Scratch on my visits to The Foundry. So, this was the day. I got both a Spicy Crispy Chicken sandwich and a chicken caesar salad to share. There was only one guy that I could see working the entire space but he was friendly and patient. The sandwich was huge. My first bite was so spicy! I'm okay with heat but something was very off. I tried a couple more nibbles but it was just too much spice. The salad was just ok. I only like breast meat and this salad tasted more dark than I liked, to I let my kid have the rest of the salad. I might try again, but am a little leery. read more

Well this certainly puts those fast food chicken joints and supermarket roasted chickens to shame. The rotisserie half chicken I got was flavored from skin to bone. They dry rub on the skin made me want to eat the skin like potato chips. And the overnight curing of the chicken meant that the moisture and flavor want all the way through the meat. All very tasty. Fried chicken sandwich was on par with Popeye's. The chicken salad sandwich was a surprise treat. Made with pulled chicken, it had a texture better than the typical ground chicken for chicken salad, and a nice load of seasonings with the mayo worked really well on it. read more

Walking by Chicken Scratch inside the Foundry will make your mouth water! This visit, i was looking for something tasty but not too heavy so I went with the Scratch salad. It has pulled chicken, apples, onion, and more on a bed of mixed greens. It was a beautiful experience and I look forward to coming back and trying one of their full chicken meals! read more

This is a really popular stall at the foundry because it's more kid-friendly than some of the other choices. My kids chose this but were disappointed. The ranch-like sauce had a ton of tarragon or dill and it made it unpleasant for a kid palate. The fries even had an herby-ness that was not liked by the kids. The chicken was ok and cooked fresh to order, which means you're going to wait a bit. Overall ok but with the creativity on offer at the other stalls, I would not go to Chicken Scratch again. read more

I will admit right off the bat that chicken scratch impressed me more than I was expecting too! I got just a crispy chicken sandwich and wow it was really good! The chicken patty is probably one of the best chicken patties I have ever had in a fried chicken sandwich. It was a lot more tender and juicy than fast food chicken sandwiches. It was complemented well with shredded lettuce, but what I was particularly surprised with was how good the white sauce was. It basically seemed like a tzatziki sauce, and it complemented the chicken really well. Bun was also soft and well toasted. Overall, one of the best sandwiches in St. Louis. However, I must also mention the downsides of this place. I paid about $15 for the chicken sandwich itself, no sides included! Was the sandwich worth $15? It was very good but I'm not sure if it's worth the price point. While I don't regret trying it, I'm not sure if I will visit again because it's a bit expensive. read more

Just not that great. The rotisserie chicken had flabby skin, was under-seasoned, and very tough meat (breast & wing). The chicken juice for dipping was flavorless. I hope this is a one-off experience. But honestly, the rotisserie checken from Whole Foods is far superior. read more

I ate your lovely establishment earlier today (September 9th). As good as the food was, it was no match for the hospitality shown to us by the cashier, Daniel. Does it serve diner fare with a southwestern flair due to its address, or is that a mere matter of coincidence? According to a guy I know, who knows several people who work there (don't be jealous), it's the latter. Certainly, you wouldn't put a restaurant here for the ambience. This looks like the kind of place where you'd ditch a stolen car after using the backseat for a fried chicken dinner that somehow involved ketchup (why?) and an assignation with a lady of the evening. If you live nearby, I guess it's not off the beaten path, but who lives here? The menu is a veritable plethora of riches. You could have breakfast food, or you could have lunch food, even if you couldn't bring yourself to roll out of bed until after 10:30 AM. It's downright anxiety inducing! It looked like something your mom would make with Bisquick when she's feeling especially lazy, but it tasted great. It may have been better than the biscuits at Popeyes--which is pretty much the highest compliment you can pay a food item. The omelet was also pretty good. I appreciated the generous helping of eggs, which must have run them, thanks to a certain individual who shall not be named. It was definitely an egg-forward preparation. The arugula didn't seem to add much, as I suspected, and I don't know that the bacon or onions were present in sufficient quantities as to be truly dominant. The goat cheese was definitely a choice. It was warm and soft (ahem), but not melty the way you'd expect cheese in an omelet to be. I liked it, but I don't know if I liked it as much as a regular ol' Denver omelet. I'm a close-minded individual. I buy vanilla ice cream for the taste. Would I feel the same way, to varying degrees, about everything else on the menu? There's only one way to find out.

We decided to share several dishes, including the Royal Trumpet Mushrooms, Beef Short Ribs, Crispy Artichokes, and the Stracciatella. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. If I had to choose a favorite, it would easily be the Royal Trumpet Mushrooms. They were incredibly savory with a rich, almost meaty flavor that made them the standout of the evening. The service was warm, attentive, and welcoming, and the restaurant has a cozy neighborhood atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and enjoy the evening. I will absolutely return to explore more of the menu.

If you've never tried toasted ravioli, you haven't lived. This is a great place to go to try it. I could eat it until I no longer fit in my pants! They really should have a plus sized clothing department right there in the store as some people are going to need it. Oh, and they have great pizza, too. You can try the St Louis style with provel (which I really like), but I'm pretty sure they have a mozzarella option, too. I've also tried their salads in the past and really enjoyed them. One day, maybe I'll get to try one of their Italian dishes. The place is a bit unusual in its look and structure. If you are going to get a table and eat, go in through the back door. There are some areas that look like smaller rooms, and then there was a larger room where we ate. It's all enjoyable, though. I also want to say that our waitress there was one of the most outstanding waitresses that I've ever seen. She was very friendly and helpful. It definitely added to the experience. The two of use arrived about 6pm on a Saturday and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table -- they don't take reservations for small groups. Turned out to be fine as we found a seat near the bar and got to watch the World Cup game as we had a drink. We were on the patio, this was June, and it's a really neat space as they can adjust the room to be more open or closed depending on how the weather is. Was an interesting feeling, felt like we were inside but with a nice breeze. For food we got the toasted raviolis to start, each of us got a salad, for entrees we got chicken parm and the rigatoni allá vodka with shrimp. They also gave complimentary bread that was very nice. I especially enjoyed my rigatoni allá vodka but everything was delicious and reasonable my priced. Food all came out fast and service was quick and friendly.

Their food came first while mine came later. I sampled a piece of the gyro meat and it was quite tasty but had a taco flavor, which I found odd considering we were at a Greek restaurant! My dish was good. It wasn't that blackened but it was still seasoned well and had great flavor. The vegetables were a bit basic and could have used more seasoning. Aside from that, the dish was a hit and our service was great. I'll for sure be back.

The kind of place where they welcome you and are truly appreciative of your patronage. The Stellar Hog is one of those places. Located in an older neighborhood all by itself, we were greeted by the owner who took us to our table. The first thing you notice is the smell. It's a wonderful BBQing meat smell that makes you can't wait to eat. The place is bigger on the inside than it looks and very clean. There's an outdoor eating area as well. We ordered at the bar, both my friend and I ordering the OG Brisket Sandwiches, mine with Coleslaw and my friend's with fries. No sooner did we sit down did our food come, and WOW, the sandwiches were huge with a pile of perfectly cooked melt in your mouth Brisket. I'm hard pressed to remember any better. The coleslaw was, well, different and hard to explain, but had a tangy mustard kind of taste. The fries on my buddy's plate were fantastic as well. The owner checked on us several times, and obviously valued us as customers. BBQ is huge in St. Louis and the big places and chains get all the attention. The depth of flavor was astonishing. I mean the rub is superb, and a few flaky ends tasted like beef jerky in the best way possible. Because of the thickness you get a multitude of textures, intensities. Every bite is roller coaster ride. Some send you straight out the milky way--incredible! The sides were good, but both missed the mark on elite for me. I would love to experiment with some others! Oh, and their house bbq sauce is splendid. Like that is legit stuff. Smoky, tangy, a hint of heat serves a reminder it's at the party, but not the reason you came. As far as bbq in stl goes, this is rightfully pitted as some of the most illustrious!
