I went for the combo with a tender and a slider, but heads up, one is probably enough unless you're starving, it was a ton of food for lunch! Checked out Dave's Hot Chicken on a Thursday night around 10pm with the BF. Was headed to Popeye's but decided to see what all the social media hype was about. I'd suggest going late during the week to avoid the extreme lines. We still stood in line but the line wasn't out the door and we were also able to grab a parking spot closer to the door. Hubby and I have been wanting to try DHC since they opened. Upon arriving, I noticed how busy and crowded they were, But it didn't stop us from going. There was a line wrapped around the building, but it moved pretty quick. Once you make it to the door, there is a working standing there to let you in. We opted to take our food to-go as the inside was just too busy and I find it quite awkward to sit in front of the window and people stare in your face while eating. This is the first Dave's location in the STL area and it has been absolutely packed ever since it first opened up. You can tell this location is well staffed, as our order came out pretty quickly. I ordered the Dave's #3 combo since I wanted to try a Tender and a Slider. I'd totally get this order again, as it's nice to be able to try both. Since I love spicy food, I tried the Extra Hot and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and heat level. My husband got the Hot version of the same meal and it was also pretty good. The meal came with Dave's Sauce and honey packets which helped bring down the heat and also balanced the flavors. For the side item we had cheese fries and it was delicious. The fries have a tasty seasoning added to the top. Although the meal was a bit on the pricier side, everything we ate was delicious and seemed fresh. It reminds me of premium fast food. This stretch of Chesterfield Airport Rd is filled with seemingly abandoned, anachronistic-looking chain restaurants. Some of them have clearly gone out of business. In some cases, the lunch rush may not have started yet. It's 11 AM on a Wednesday. Dave's Hot Chicken, meanwhile, has a line out the door. It's 400 degrees outside, and some of their more inconsiderate patrons are entirely unconcerned that they're "letting all the cold air out." Other nearby restaurants, obviously jealous, are blocking parking spaces for their own customers using dining chairs with handwritten signs on them. I had to see what the hype was about. Plus, it was free. Someone from my job with an expense account was going, and they must have felt sorry for me. It pays to be stuck in a rut. Like the nearby Raising Cane's, Dave's Hot Chicken doesn't serve anything other than chicken strips. Well, I guess they've got chicken bites, which are probably just chicken strips that have been cut up into little pieces, for people who don't chew as well. And sandwiches, which are just the exact same chicken strips on a bun--which these clowns have the nerve to charge you $2 for. Arguably, buns should be free, like cups of water from a fountain soda machine. (If they were, I guess people might try to bring their own meat to restaurants. Pause.) There's also milkshakes for some reason. Milkshakes don't really seem to go with hot chicken, except that maybe if you ordered the Reaper spice level, you could use one to cool down your palate and thus avoid having to call an ambulance. How embarrassing would that be. You can get just the strips themselves, served in a combo with fries, slaw and what appears to be Texas Toast, or you can get them on a bun, with slaw on it and some sort of Cane's Sauce-like substance, also served with fries if you get it in a combo. Why doesn't the combo also come with a drink? Is it because they know they're already charging entirely too much? If I go again, I might bring my own drink as a matter of general principle, even if I'm not paying. I opted for the two-sliders combo and a small drink. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the soda fountain had both Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Really, you only need Coke Zero (the best soda, "periodt"), unless the president visits. That might help them avoid an ICE raid. I couldn't see back into the kitchen, but you can never be too safe. The sliders were insanely big, for something that's supposed to be the size of a White Castle. You only get two, but most people--unless they just got out of jail--don't have any business eating that much. Each of them was bigger than one of the sandwiches at the also nearby Chick-fil-A. They put a few pickles on the sandwich, and they also give you a few on the side, which was very generous of them. The fries were crinkle cut, nicely crisp, coated in some sort of seasoning salt and served with a cup of the aforementioned Cane's Sauce-like substance. The chicken sandwiches were amazing. The exterior, with its crispy coating and dark-colored seasoning, almost makes the chicken look like it's overcooked, but no, it's cooked to perfection. The interior is nice and, erm, moist. I ordered the Hot, which I didn't find to be very hot. But that was probably for the best, since I wasn't by myself and I couldn't afford to look like a wimp in front of my colleagues. Whatever seasoning they used gave it a surprising complexity, I thought. It was probably just cayenne. What do I know? I've hardly been anywhere. Dave's Hot Chicken opened 7/11/25 I believe and we came 7/14/25. OMG the line was so long. It was wrapped around the back of the building. Is say we waiting about 45 minutes until we were able to order then another 15 to get our food. It wasn't so bad but it was humid outside. The staff managing the door and lines was very friendly. It's pretty much chicken nuggets, strips and sandwich. You can also get cauliflower to sub for chicken if that's your thing. With there being 4 of us, we all ordered a few different combos (drinks are separate) My husband said it wasn't bad, he'll return once the lines aren't so long. Honestly, it was a great experience overall. The food was delicious, and the front cashier, Traelyn, mixed a strawberry lemonade and fruit punch slushee for us, which was a fantastic idea. She was super kind and walked us through the best menu items and how to get the most bang for our buck. It's definitely a pricier spot for chicken, but the flavor makes it worth it. My son wanted to come here after seeing them on YouTube and even he said it was just ok. There are much better chicken places around. I say this not to bash the place, but to provide my honest opinion. The service here was awesome and the woman taking my order was so kind as to tell the cooks to split my nugget order in half and give me 5 hot buffalo bites instead of all medium. Unexpectedly spectacular hot fried breaded chicken from a place that started as a night time food stall in 2017. Built into where the Five Guys once was, I wasn't expecting the food to be superficially similar to Raising Cane's, nor for it to taste as good as it did. The portions are deceptively small for their prices (although one can argue that Cane's goes overboard with the texas toast and meh fries anyway) but the taste of the chicken alone might have been worth the $10 USD I spent on a slider and fries and pickles (they call their chicken sandwiches "sliders" here). I asked for the hot spice level, since this place seems to pride itself on spiciness. There was a sign nearby that reminded customers to sign a waiver form before eating the Carolina Reaper level chicken, but I usually scoff at that since no restaurant with an ounce of self preservation would sell something that can kill their customer. The hot spiciness level wasn't (in my spice-deadened tongue) *too* strong, definitely a level or two above that of Popeye's but not enough to drive any casual eaters away. What really carried the chicken was the rub they used- as well as how meticulously prepared the breading was. There was a very audible and noticeable (mouthfeel) CRUNCH when I bit into the sandwich, making me wonder if I had been served chicken cartilage. Far from perturbed, it made me want to eat more, and I had to force myself to slow down lest the shock caused me to inhale the entire meal. Somehow, the breading wasn't boiling hot but the meat inside was a comfortable warmth and juicy to boot. Could this have been because of the open AC above me, blasting 50f directly onto my table? For once I'm glad about that- it counteracted the heat of the sandwich and allowed me to continue eating with gusto even though the sandwich *just* came out of the frier. That rub... I'm not sure how to describe it. Nashville style almost but a little sweeter and, like I said, "tolerable" for a palate that was slightly more than casual. As I was eating the fries, which were *also* somehow fried to perfection (you can tell they were hand cut and breaded using the same or similar process to the chicken, having uniform texture that slightly gives after a bite. also no cold core. go figure.) I thought to myself "is this just the Red Robin (rip) special seasoning except waaaay less salty, so that you can actually enjoy it and not feel your heart pressure jump? no way." The fries were just dusted but it was enough. I almost didn't have enough to use with the "Dave's Sauce" because I kept eating them one after another. The Dave's Sauce was decent, but nothing too special. It reminded me a bit of a slightly spicier version of honey mustard, which is great because I love honey mustard. Thinking back, the woman who took my order, Nay, asked if I'd like more Dave Sauce (complimentary). I should have taken her up on that. Normally I dip my chicken sandwiches into these sauces, but I completely forgot to by the time I was like 2/3rds of the way through, lol. As if the sweet coleslaw tucked into the bottom of the sandwich, which was a bit of an afterthought, didn't merge so well with the little smattering of sauce in the sandwich itself. (it did.) I'd like to end this review by pointing out that it's nice and unexpected that the cashier who took my order offered her name in case I had any questions and concerns. That's something you normally get from a sit down restaurant, and was kind of appreciated. For disclosure, I was also encouraged by Jacky to write a review, after she stopped by to ask how I was enjoying my meal. Half a sandwich was in my mouth at the time, so i gave her an ok sign. My husband and I went here in a Thursday evening around 6:15. While it wasn't packed, there were a lot of people there! People were in and out the entire time we were there. We got in line and it moved pretty quickly. The two people taking orders were super friendly and helpful. They realized it was our first time there and gave us some advice. Their sliders aren't sliders. They're a whole sandwich! They have different spice levels to choose from. One sandwich and fries, along with a milkshake, was more than enough for me! A gal was sweeping the floor and told us to get honey and Dave's sauce and put both on the sandwich. We did and it was tasty! It was a little loud in there, but not annoyingly so. It was very clean. And the walls are decorated with all kinds of stuff - they have a "graffiti" look. The only thing wrong was that our fries were not hot - barely even warm. It seems like a place that has that many people coming through, and most orders appeared to have fries, that it would be easy to serve hot fries. I visited Dave's Hot Chicken on opening day 7/11/2025. Upon arrival there were huge crowds about 100 deep wrapped around the outside corner, and friendly employees working the crowd while handing out plastic chickens and menus. The line went relatively quick, given the crowd, it took about 15 minutes to get to the counter and 5 minutes to receive food. The dining area was a bright and open design with windows on all sides and a cheeky hot chicken decor. I ordered a hot box of sliders(5 hot and 5 extra hot), a hot box of tenders(5 mild and 5 Reaper), a hot box of fries, and a fountain drink. When ordering I asked for no slaw on my sliders, and the cashier advised the sliders don't come with slaw on the sandwich, while I understand it may have been too busy for modifications, the fact is, the sliders do come with slaw. After trying a few sips of different drinks; including cherry Coke, Coca-cola, and HiC, I found the fountain drink syrup balance to be a bit watered down and lacking that fountain drink oomph, so I switched to water. While I'm not usually a crinkle cut fry fan, the fries at Dave's had a dusting of spices and seasoning that was an absolute flavor bomb and won me over. The chicken for both the sandwiches and the tenders was moist, rich and meaty, and the Nashville seasoning was powerful, but not overwhelming in spices as I've come to expect from a Nashville hot. The sandwiches came topped with a sweet and tangy house mayo sauce, slaw and pickles. The spice levels mild through hot were very approachable and flavorful. The extra hot is where things start to enter a territory that children and those not into spicy foods might find uncomfortable, while still very tasty and flavorful. The Reaper does in fact taste like and have a hint of the heat of Carolina Reaper pepper powder, which Carolina Reaper pepper is distinguishable from other peppers, with it's somewhat floral flavor and a kick you in the face heat that takes 10-20 seconds to build and minutes to subside, ironically I found the Reaper to be on the more approachable side for something with Carolina Reaper in it, even though you need to sign a waiver for it, it barely kisses challenge level spice for any pepper heads looking for that super hot kick i.e. you're unlikely to get capsaicin cramps from one or two tenders, if you know you know. Overall Dave's Hot Chicken delivers on it's promise of great Nashville hot chicken with a little fun and flair. read more

"Hot" is hot enough that I don't care to go higher. My wife ordered "mild", and said she would go for "medium" next time. Good and juicy chicken. Decent crinkle fries. We prefer ketchup over dipping sauce. Sandwich was better flavor combination than just strip. Good value. $14 Combo meal is easily for 2 people to share. Loud background music is ok, super loud order pickup yelling is unpleasant (order ready display might be less disturbing. Stopped by for lunch and to our surprise they were pretty crowded late afternoon and seemed to have a constant line. Staff did an excellent job keeping it moving. Our meals came out relatively quick despite the crowds. We ordered chicken tender meal (mild) and the chicken slider meal (medium), for our taste the medium heat was perfect, might try a step up next time. Restaurant was clean, staff tried wiping down tables and mostly kept up, but like I said pretty crowded. Restaurant was colorful and bright and had quite a few tables. The chicken itself was well cooked, with crunchy outside and tender inside. This is the only redeeming quality otherwise I would give it a 1. We tried three temperatures: mild, medium, hot, which we picked because I am more timid with my heat sensitivity, but my fiancé loves to sweat while he eats a good hot chicken. The mild and medium had no heat whatsoever, and with the lack of flavor I felt like they were both so bland, like I was just eating a plain crunchy piece of chicken. The hot initially had no flavor as well, but the heat crept up on you, then burned when you swallowed. Sauce: 6/10. They only have one sauce. It's not like anything I've ever tried, but similar to 1000 island in a way. Not quite savory and not quite sweet. I think it is interesting to make one signature thing, but it is quite limiting if your customers don't love it! Gave Dave's Chesterfield a try after having a not so great experience in Kansas city. Spoiler alert, it wasn't any better here. It's not that Dave's is terrible, just that it is incredibly overrated, and way too expensive for what you get. The Good... Chicken bites were cooked fresh! Practically still sizzling when I opened my to-go box in the car. The MILD seasoning on them was still too spicy for the wife and kids, but I personally enjoyed it. The fries (crinkle cut) were really, really good, and I particularly liked the salt/spice mix they were tossed in. The Bad... The tenders (2 piece HOT) I had also ordered were dry. Not totally dried out on the inside, but the breading was thick and HARD. Not light and crispy like the freshly made bites were. Almost like the tenders were fried twice if you know what that texture would be like. The HOT seasoning dusted on top was indeed spicy, and took a minute to build, so at first bite it almost seemed like the mild was actually hotter. Other than that, the Dave's sauce is definitely not my thing. I assume it's 90+ % mayo with some added spices or other tangy/spicy/sweet liquid condiments blended in. Not good at all IMO. The bread slice(s) you get with it are just plain white bread and not toasted or buttered etc. I realize this is a traditional way to serve hot chicken but its just a bit disappointing. Also, why no ranch??? The Price... 2 Tenders with a thin slice of plain white bread and a tiny basket of fries is over $13 with tax and no drink. Add a drink and you'll be at or over $20 if your generous enough to add a buck or two for what feels like a forced upon tip. It's honestly just not good enough to warrant that type of asking price, and who am I tipping and for what? Then of course since your tipping before receiving food or any service, you get the feeling that if you don't tip well or at all, the workers may treat you or your order differently. Do they? Will they? I don't know, I just accept that it's going to cost me an extra 15-20% over what the menu says it is and move on. That being said, my two chicken with fries combos to-go with NO drinks was just shy of $30. Tip included. Bottom line... I definitely wouldn't go out of my way for Dave's. If your set on trying them out however, the best bang for your buck seems to be the #3, and you could still add on an extra tender OR side and come up just short of $20 (no tip and no drink). Adding a drink would put you closer to $25, but at least it will feel like an actual meal and not just an overpriced snack. read more

Don't understand the hype. Gotten it twice now with 3 spice levels. So expensive it ruins it all. Portion is small for that price. Fries are mediocre. Food - Absolutely delicious. No complaints there. Service/Ambiance - Well... where do I start? We got in line and before we could even place our order, a staff member marched in front of us with trash bags, stared us down for several seconds (felt like an eternity), and then barked at my husband and me to confirm if we were together. After we said yes, she ordered me to move behind him. (Romantic, right? Nothing says "date night" like being rearranged in line like a game of Tetris.) I brushed it off, thinking maybe she was just having a rough day. But oh no, it didn't stop there. The whole time we were there, her attitude was... let's just say the main attraction. Slamming chairs around, loudly complaining about how hard the job is, telling a family at their table to lift their feet so she could sweep under them mid-bite. She was practically narrating her misery for the whole restaurant. At one point, she got on the speaker so loudly that people literally jumped in their seats. The only thing missing was popcorn to go with the show. Honestly, the food was great, but the vibe? Let's just say the employee's energy could season your meal all on its own. I work in the service industry too, and I know how much a single person's attitude can make or break the whole experience. In this case, it definitely tainted ours. But hey, if you can tune out the chaos, the food really is worth it! read more

Our order got a little mixed up. 1 ordered the #1 medium and my wife ordered the #4 extra hot. My first piece was medium and my wife's single piece was medium. My second piece was extra hot. It was too late to change it, as 2/3 was eaten, and they were very busy so I didn't want to wait to fix it. The food was good but the extra hot was too hot for me. They should take more care serving the right food to the right customer, especially when they can serve extra hot or especially reaper hot. read more

Arrived at my second visit to this restaurant to find an employee in uniform eating her meal outside near the door while engaging in a loud, profanity laced conversation. Not something I would want my kids to hear / see. The employee who took my order was very unenthusiastic and seemed very unhappy. My food was good, but honestly how hard is it to screw up the meal when you only have a handful of things on your menu? I was disappointed with the lack of disability access in the restaurant. There is no disability seating, no door assist device and no disabled parking spot. While the bathroom is large and marked for disabled persons, the men's room is single use only which resulted in a line outside of the door. Who puts a single use bathroom in a restaurant the seats over 50 people? My prediction...this place will be gone in 18 months. read more
