I visited on Saturday, March 30th with 9 other people to celebrate my birthday. I have been to Brooklyn Crab several times and while my experiences with food and service over the years have been uneven, I still enjoy coming back for casual lunches and dinners and my annual birthday lunch. However our experience on Saturday was, in a word, unacceptable. We had a reservation for 10 people at 2:00 pm. We were told over and over by the hostess that they were waiting for the party before us to pay and leave the table. I told her no problem, because getting upset about something beyond her control wouldn't do anyone any good. We were not seated until 2:40, 40 minutes after our reservation. When we sat down, we saw that there was a party of 20 seated next to us, and it was clear that our server's as well as the kitchen's focus was on that group and not us. Our server, while very nice, was clearly overwhelmed, and it was difficult to get her attention to order more drinks, get her to take our meal orders, etc. Appetizers were slow to come, and when our meals finally arrived, only half the table received their meals. It took another 15 minutes for the rest of the table's meals to come, and one of our party had to wait 30 minutes for her crab pot to finally come out. By the time we were all finished with our meals, she was just starting hers. Oh, and the food was all cold when it did finally come. The server gave us two free deserts, but the damage was done. The server apologized profusely and said the kitchen was slow. That doesn't in any way make up for late seating, bad service and cold food. It's clear to me that they overbook their reservations with large parties, and neither the kitchen nor the servers can handle it. That is not their fault; it's the fault of the management for not planning better. I get one birthday a year and unfortunately I will have to find another venue for any future celebrations, as Brooklyn Crab cannot be trusted to execute even the minimal level of customer service. read more

My bf and I had a wonderful time here a couple weeks ago! It was such a beautiful day, we put our names in and walked around the piers for a while before going back for our table. I was glad we sat on the very top floor, there were great views and a breeze, honestly felt like I was on a mini vacation. We shared the punch bowl drink, which was really cool--pretty good for the price and tasted like a stronger piña colada. We also shared popcorn shrimp, mussels, and a crab roll. The crab sandwich was good, but I could've done without it. However, the shrimp and mussels were SOOOO good! We don't always like to get fried food but the shrimp were not oily or heavy at all, were nice whole pieces of shrimp, and just tasted great. The mussels... were to die for. That white wine-garlic-butter-herb bath is just... *sigh*. We asked for extra bread twice to soak all that up (and our waiter was so nice about it!). Those portions were great for two people as well, plenty of food and it was delicious. We will definitely be planning special trips to Red Hook to come back here!! read more

Review is for 6th Annual Spring Oyster Fest ONLY. $60 online | $70 at the door STAY AWAY. NOT WORTH IT. Here's some backstory... When I finally arrived after taking the bus to get to red hook, I was super pumped to see all this nice outdoor space upstairs at Brooklyn Crab, especially since it was such a nice day out. Sadly, the oyster fest was being hosted on the ground floor in the back next to a row of portapotties... After being in line for a while, we were greeted by hosts that were super enthusiastic and nice. I was thinking, YAY, start to a great event. They give you wristbands, and a mini plastic mug, which I totally thought was a throwaway souvenir but more on that later... It was already such a mess by the time I got there, about 15 min after the start time. There were so many different lines, the space was overcrowded with tables, and a LOT of confused people. - We thought oysters would be delivered to the tables in batches (you know, so overcrowding/lines wouldn't happen). Nope. You have to go to each station yourself and pick up the oysters. - But wait, no plates! We asked the host at the door, they don't know. We ask a waiter, they don't know. We ask the shuckers at the oyster station, THEY DON'T KNOW EITHER. Wow. We had to convince the stand selling food to please give us some trays...pathetic. They said no plates because this was meant to be a tasting (aka you pick one up and eat it right then and there), what the hell. - Some oyster stands insisted we could only get one of each. Others didn't really care how many you grabbed. The shuckers couldn't keep up, poor guys, they should have had at least 2-3 people at each station, and they should have probably had people shucking behind the scenes too!!! - Most of the oysters that were shucked were not separated from the shell and/or had sand/shell in the oyster itself from poor shucking. Ugh. - Remember that mini plastic mug I mentioned they gave us at the door? Turns out, no mini mug, no beer! They would only pour you a tasting size in that mug...this mug was probably 1/3 of a regular beer. Most of my friends who came in didn't even get a mug for some reason and had to go back and ask for one. Most beer vendors didn't care if you just stood there and got refills or poured it into a bigger cup, but why waste people's time when they could be enjoying their full beers for longer with their friends back at their table?! - Event was for sure OVERSOLD. RIDICULOUS. Most people couldn't even get more than 6 oysters, which would have amounted to 1 of each kind they offered. - I think everyone at this event deserves at least a partial refund. The 1-star is for the awesome beer vendors who just seemed genuinely happy to share the beers from their brewery. I feel horrible for making my friends pay $60-70 (plus all the money a lot of us paid for ubers, etc!) for a super sub-par event, never again!!! read more

This place for the location have so much potential but who ever is running this place needs to take an exit and let's someone else in! Do not ever buy that Dasssssit fishbowl drink!!! It was a hard pineapple seltzer, abosutely no liquor...suppose to have tequila..it just tasted like seltzer water with ice and a piece if orange for $23...madness!! The food and drinks were really good. The only reason why I'm giving this place four stars instead of three! We had the watermelon lemonade drink and it had fresh blended watermelon. Only negative was that they were each $1 more downstairs at the bar than sitting down at the restaurant. This was before tax. We brought this up to our waitress. Pretty sketchy if you ask me. This was Saturday at about 2PM. Once we got our table, we had to wait about 30 minutes before anyone came over. We flagged a waiter down to order our food. The fried shrimp was awesome! Went here this past weekend for a birthday lunch. It's a nice place on the water and I think one of the best parts is there's ample parking here which we all know is usually not the place when you go out to eat. We arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and were a large party of 12. We were told it would be about an hours wait for a table. While we waited, there were plenty of things to keep us busy. We had a few kids with us so they were able to run around and play with all the games. We finally got seated and looked at the menu only to notice a very limited, selected menu. We had the popcorn shrimp, fried shrimp basket, fish and chips basket and a blue crab feast. For the price, the food was not worth it to me. The portion sizes are very small! Came here for lunch during the Summer, nice to be able to eat outside on their roof deck. Decor is simple, like any seafood shack' ish style... with benches and big umbrella. We had the "oyster of the day" - couldn't remember the origin but pretty sure it's Long Island... these were very sweet! Also got the blue crab roll (generous w their blue crab!) The blue crab was sweet, fresh and thankfully no shells! And a big bucket of Alaskan King Crab legs. The spice mix was ok, cajun? wasn't spicy but did lack some flavor. The corn was very sweet. The food here is pretty good, but not amazing. It was very crowded when we went and it was hard to really relax and enjoy our meal with a million people yelling. The view is great, but we didn't have a table near the open windows. It sounds like I'm complaining, but I will come back because the food was decent. Cool location in Red Hook. What a great place!!! If you are a seafood lover (like myself) I highly recommend taking the trip to Red Hook, Brooklyn for a clam bake. With an amazing view of the Statue of Liberty and the freedom tower on a gorgeous night.. Who can beat that?! I ordered a piña colada it was blended perfectly and my husband had their homemade Narraganset beer. He loved it as much he ordered a pitcher! The fried calamari was ok. But their fresh oysters and clams were great and fresh. As for our main course my hubby and I ordered their famous clam bake.. King crab legs, w/ corn on the cob and coleslaw. I was there on April 5th with approximately forty of my high school classmates celebrating our 35th reunion from Brooklyn Technical High School. Everyone had a wonderful time. The drinks are still being talked about and the food was delicious. We were able to enjoy ourselves without interruption. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They were attentive to our needs and best of all, we were not rushed or pressured to leave. We can't wait to return when the weather is good, so we can enjoy the outdoor portion. It's pretty hard to walk into a place expecting the food to be subpar and come out of it even more disappointed. We wanted to give them a chance despite reviews but sadly the reviews don't lie. We will definitely never eat here again. I only ate about a third of my meal and only because I was so hungry. We ordered the beer battered fish and chips, snow crab roll and peel and eat shrimp. Everything was lacking flavor and seasoning. My roll came out already soggy and mushy, and the crab wasn't even mixed in with any mayo. It was most likely frozen and thrown on top since my roll was soaked through. Oh yeah, and the cole slaw that comes with the fish and chips is a sample size portion. My friend ordered mac and cheese because she is vegetarian and there is a limited meat free menu. When the server suggested the vegetable hot pot, much pricier, and my friend didn't take her suggestion, the server seemed angry and hostile. Her service was poor the rest of the evening. WOW! Upon coming to this location (very windy during wintry days), it seem so barren from the outside. It was in a neighborhood that is probably still being developed. But when you walk into the dining area, all the seats were FILLED! Luckily I made an apptmt for my party of 15, but still! It fooled us but in a good way. This place does get pretty noisy but it was alright. I think to enjoy the sunset and view, the best time to come would be during the summer time when the rooftop is exposed. I mean, during the colder weather days, they have an indoor heating system, which is fine. I just did not like that they keep opening the side doors for the dishes to be carried out :(. This is a festive-looking place, and I went with the gf without checking it out first. We had the halibut special ($24), the artichoke special ($5), peel and eat shrimp ($13) and mussels ($12). That was a tasty meal for us, totaling a reasonable $67.50, with a glass of chardonnay ($8). The halibut and shrimp were especially good. The downsides are that it's really, really a crab place. Don't go unless that's mostly what you want. The service and the table settings (paper plates, paper towels) are more like what you'd expect from a place on the gulf in Galveston. The food is good and inexpensive. And again, it's good, not amazing. I've been here twice and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The seafood is fresh and they don't skimp on the good stuff like lobster in the potato salad. The flavoring is simple, Cajun or butter. This isn't The Boil in Manhattan. That said, the atmosphere is chill and gives you the feel of being outside the city without the travel time. They have corn hole, mini golf, arcade games, and shuffle board. I had the most enjoyable day-off-fro work-lunch here yesterday. First of all, my waitress was Brooke, and she was attentive and yet respectful of me gorging....a mighty fine line to walk. I was so glad I came on and off day, off hours. The peel and eat shrimp bowl seemed to be endless, it may have been 40 shrimp deep, and I love shrimp and the head... fantastic. Our experience tonight was quite decent! It's refreshing to go to a seafood restaurant by the waters in brooklyn. The service we received tonight was on point, attentive and courteous. The food came out hot and the apps arrived promptly. I ordered the steam pot which had a good portion of scallops, one section of the crab legs, sausages and bunch of mussels. It was cooked perfectly and nothing tasted rubbery. The husband ordered the fish and chips. I sampled some and tasted great. Granted it's fried food but yes, you can mess up fried food. We originally wanted to order the blue crabs but the MP was too much IMO. 75$ a dozen mid sept. Overall, we enjoyed our little date night by the water and eating seafood. We came here after a trip from Ikea. The food was really food. My date order fish and potatoes that was so flavorful. Naturally this is a seafood spot and do not have a lot of selection for us but I was able to order corn on the cob and French fries it was soooooo good. they also have asparagus and red potatoes to order as well. (pictures to follow) They have a bar downstairs and televisions for those sport lovers. Super cool spot after a longggg Journey in Ikea. Sara was super sweet. I try not to leave bad reviews especially coming out of a pandemic and the restaurant industry was hit hard. But New York City has lifted all its restrictions and yesterday was Father's Day. I have been wanting to go to Brooklyn crab for a while. My dad who I brought with me has been there before and has been talking about this place for 2 years. We both love crab and seafood. But my dad hasn't gone since 2019. First from the appetizers, very small portion. The server told us the calamari was enough for 4 adults. No, it was enlightening for 2 maybe 3. The marinara sauce was brought in a small to go cup. Barely enough for one person. I asked for more sauce but they never arrived. Both appetizers were very good. Then the menu I dealt was very small with some crabs not even on the menu. Plus the size on the portions were small and NOT CHEAP. All portions were 1,25 the smallest size you can get. My dad said when he first went it was more crab options on menu and filling. We were all still hungry. So in addition to my small but expensive lobster I got a Jonas crab roll. The roll was small. I finished it in 2 bites and it was served with stale chips for $23. I'm sorry but this meal came out to $300 and I will never go back there. My dad thinks they have new ownership because it was a completely different experience he said. He agreed he wouldn't go back. I don't like leaving such a review but 2 days before this we went to an Italian restaurant that was 1/2 the price with bigger portions and the meal was filling. read more

BKC is a magical amazing summertime destination in Red Hook. 3 story outdoor bar w delicious food, games, instagrammy backyard. (Love the upgrades done this year!!) if you have to pick one place to go w your homies - this is the spot. Everyone will talk about it for years to come! Wait wasn't too long but when we were getting sat I requested to be sat at a booth instead of a table because I have a chronic back condition and the host denied me because he said they were for 4 tops . He then proceeded to seat 2 tops in the booths he denied me . I asked another person and they went to ask him for him to come back over to me and tell me a different excuse, that the booths were all reserved . While dining I watched a couple get sat and then move themselves into the booth on their own and no one stopped them or made them move . We reserved a party reservation to celebrate a birthday at this restaurant. My nephew did the reservation in person and we Confirmed over the phone . When the mayor raised the restrictions to allow more people in restaurants they cancelled our party because they would make more money without reserving for a party . When they were limited we gave them the business helping this restaurant by celebrating a party here but they thanked us by cancelling our party at the last minute. That's terrible customer service and this shows how much they care about there customers. Give your business to other restaurants that truly care about their customers !! read more

Great, friendly service. Great atmosphere. Reasonably priced drinks and delicious drinks (I got two red sangrias and they were perfect for a hot spring afternoon). Corn hole and picnic tables in the front was a nice touch. Mini golf in a kid-friendly area in the back was great as well. Delicious tasting food but quite pricey for what you get. We ordered the Royale for Two and it came with less food than I expected for the price. I could've eaten all of it myself and I'm not a big guy. 4 snow crab legs (like individual legs, not sections), one king crab leg, and a half or one of a Dungeness crab is not the most abundant "assortment", and even with a 1-1/2lb lobster on top, some corn and coleslaw, that isn't worth the days MKP of $130. Still, all around a great time. I will definitely go back and order other dishes that hopefully come with more food. I do wish it was closer but not much you can do about that.
