Ciabatta Avocado Toast Flight

I had a great experience here! This location is fairly close to my house, so it is convenient to visit. Our server Miguel was beyond amazing and made the experience a 10/10. Came here on a weekend and they were pretty busy, yet we were seated very quickly! They have a huge menu. Lots of drinks from mimosa flights to coffee beverages. I love the variety here! My iced pineapple matcha drink was really tasty. All of our food was delicious, but MAN those lemon ricotta pancakes sure are next level. Super great spot for brunch!

Tried out Broken Yolk Cafe for brunch and it definitely delivered a solid, no-frills breakfast experience. Went with the buttermilk full stack, a side of fruit, and sausage patties. The pancakes were exactly what you want fluffy, slightly crispy on the edges, and soaked up the syrup well without getting soggy. Nothing overly fancy, just done right. The fruit was fresh and a nice balance to cut through all the carbs, and the sausage patties had that classic savory, slightly greasy breakfast flavor that hits the spot. Service was quick and the overall vibe is casual and easy...good for a laid-back brunch without overthinking it. It's not trying to reinvent breakfast, but it executes the staples really well. Our server susy was super sweet attentive and overall a really cool girl. Oh and the host staff was awesome too. Overall, a dependable spot when you're craving a classic, filling breakfast. Definitely a step above your Dennys ihop or norms tier. Clean and less of the like homeless / sketchy crackhead demographic you'd expect at those 24 / 7 breakfast & lunch joints. Buenos días mi gente. Have a good one.

We got sat very quickly. Server was kind and helped my family. Who normally take a while to order, to hurry up and make decisions lol which i appreciated. Very few places have gluten free pancakes. It was a nice surprise to be able to have some as well for breakfast Oh grab the ices cappuccino, i got the hazelnut flavor. So freaking yummy

We ate breakfast as if it were our last meal amid an impending crisis. We were given plastic utensils, while the privileged people around us used silverware. Throughout the meal, we noticed no other table used plastic utensils. Very unfortunate!

I have been to other locations before and this was the first time going to the Irvine one. I like their interior decor. It feels very modern and clean. Just like any other brunch place, there was a bit of a wait to get in, and it's good to know that you can put yourself on the waitlist ahead of time. Once we got to the table, the service was very fast. Food was delicious. I had the oat milk matcha and lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything was good. The only thing I noticed was their menu -- everything seemed kind of plain because there are so many other brunch restaurants nearby that all try to make their menu stand out. I wish they had more interesting dishes. To be fair, they had the pineapple matcha drink, but it wasn't something that I wanted to try.

Came in around noon on a Monday. Seated quickly but didn't get water for a while. Ask for water and refill and took a while. Coffee was refilled quick My server recommended me half and half on the egg Benedict which was such a great idea. I asked all the sauce to on the side which was accommodated Food was cooked fast but I got tiny bits of avocado. Tiny! Tomato too. Wasn't how I pictured it. The green sauce was yummy. But I felt I really didn't get what I paid for. I went home and cut myself half a tomato and half an avocado and ate them. :-/ Prob not come again even tho it's a friendly place.

Choose 2 benedicts: border (left) and fried chicken and waffle (right)

The tropical flight (subbed guava for orange) was delicious across the board. Strawberry was my favorite. Super well-balanced, lightly boozy, and each one came topped with fresh fruit that was the perfect finishing touch. The Choose 2 Benedicts were solid. The Border Benedict had a creamy green sauce with carne asada (flavorful, not spicy) and the corn cake soaked up the sauce nicely. The chicken & waffle Benedict was good; waffle slightly sweet but balanced. Hollandaise was excellent. Only wish the eggs were runnier. Biscuits were a bit dry but decent with the peppery gravy. Chicken tenders were very well seasoned. Definitely coming back to try more!

My mom and I were in the mood for some Easter brunch and decided to try this spot after having always driven past it. Even though Yelp said we were 21st in line, we ended up getting seated 5ish minutes after checking in. it's a cute and welcoming spot, though the light above our booth kept flickering in and out (?). I ordered the golden state benedict, my mom got the hash skillet, and we got a side of bacon. The first pass of our meal came out soon after ordering. I say first pass because we had to send 2 of our items back to the kitchen: my hashbrowns (that accompanied my benedict) and the side of bacon. The overarching word to describe our meal is "limp." My hash browns were limp. I don't think I've ever been served limper hashbrowns. I'm not one to send food back to the kitchen (I'll usually just tough it out), but I wanted crispy hashbrowns and these were just not up to par whatsoever. The bacon was also limp and chewy. Our server kindly took both dishes back to the kitchen, and everything came back a bit crispier soon after. My benedict itself was underwhelming. The English muffin was either severely undertoasted or not toasted at all. For me, an English muffin should be over toasted to compensate for the heavy hollandaise sauce, runny yolk, and all the residual moisture in a benedict -- this one was just limp again. The hollandaise sauce was too heavy and was missing some acidity to round out the sauce and balance all the flavours out. The sauce itself was also a tad broken, but that was honestly the least of my concerns. The hash skillet was arguably more mid. I want to say it was a 95:5 ratio of soggy potatoes to corned beef. There was maybe a soup spoon of corned beef hiding under the potatoes. TLDR: bland and mid. Disappointing experience, only made better by the fact that prices are fair.

Breakfast

Busy breakfast joint! It was a rainy Saturday morning, and we were looking for a good brunch in Irvine. Unfortunately everything had a crazy wait! Fortunately Broken Yolk had a Yelp wait list we could add our name to, so we shaved off about 10 minutes from our wait time while we drove there. I think we waited about 5 minutes once we arrived at the restaurant. We were seated in a corner booth which was nice and roomy for a party of 3. The food mediocre. I ordered chicken and waffles, and got 4 super dry tenders on top of waffles. Nothing was fantastic imo. I've dined at the HB location many times, and I remembered it being better than this. My mimosa was good though! :)

wait here could get a bit long on the weekend during peak hours. theres a good amount of seating inside but some of the tables feel cramped because they're trying to fit as many people in as possible. food was standard for brunch. i liked their french toast and chilaquiles!! portions are quite large and it was a lot of food to share for 2 people

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes

Went here for a quick Saturday brunch! Got the famous lemon ricotta pancakes short stack They came in a little late than expected! Benedict was good and classic with hollandaise sauce Good area for seating they have out door seating too! Servers were nice and warm!

Overall: A little pricey, but an overall lovely and nice brunch spot! I appreciated the option for the Yelp waitlist. Got the croissant sandwich, which was a much bigger portion than expected (though no complaints here about that). Service: Very nice server and friendly hosts in the front! Got seated quickly and they were very attentive. Ambiance: Very pretty, bright, and open concept.

Strawberry Belgian Waffle

Broken yolk cafe was mediocre. If you are in a hurry this is the place to dine. We ate on a Sunday morning at 9am. We did not wait long to be seated. Our server was quick & friendly. The service 10/10. The quality of food: 5/10. We ordered the Belgian waffle, meat lovers omelet, breakfast croissant and a kids chicken with fries. Our food was brought to our table under ten minutes. I like that there was always staff walking by if we needed anything we can ask and they were helpful. The waitress checked on us at all the right times. We did not need to ask for our check which I loved. She even checked and brought us to go boxes. I am used to having to wait for the check and wait to get a to go box. If I could change something it would be a larger table space cause we sat at a half a booth table for the six of us. The plates and portions were large. Also the taste of the food was just O.K. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. I ordered the Belgian waffle with strawberry sauce and whipped cream on the side. When it was brought to me it was just waffle with slices of strawberry. So no strawberry "sauce" or puree. It wasn't served with butter I had to ask. If you are eating pancakes or waffles I feel like butter is an automatic pairing that goes with it. The bacon was not cooked "enough" I know everyone has their preference of how crispy or not crispy they like it but it seemed they just warmed up some bacon or "cooked" it for a few minutes it was limp still raw ish looking. Maybe that's why the food was brought so quickly cause the food was just made in a rush. If they spent more time elevating the flavor and quality of the food this place would be amazing. I appreciate how much staff was there and how helpful and quick they were. The quality and taste of the food can improve.

It was a like a fancy version of McDonald's Filet-o-Fish, with a piece of fish at least twice the size. It came on a brioche bun (way better than McD's), a healthy dose of tartar sauce, red onion and cheddar. I added a side of tater tots for $3 more, which I shared. It was the perfect-sized lunch! Our order was over $20, so I was able to add on the Guava Wang for free, It was just the right amount of sweetness and a nice treat! I ordered online, and my order was ready on time. However, Bopomofo specializes in this, providing a generous amount and you can even choose if you want dark or white meat. They also have been steadily increasing their food offerings. When I first visited months ago, it was just the chicken and the shrimp burger. But now there seems to be quite a good variety of options (and unique fusion items)! For drinks, I've been stuck on the Ba-La Matcha, which is a matcha with guava puree. The guava creates this creamy consistency which is really nice. Their boba is also pretty solid. Where I have to dock points...1st the venue is tiny. I guess this is meant to be a grab-and-go, but with so many food options now, it would be nice for there to be sit-down spaces inside. The outdoor seating in the center is quite vast, so just pray that it's a good day (not too hard to achieve in Irvine). Their non-matcha drinks are just not that great. The assam black milk tea was quite mediocre - tasted more like sugar water than any tea. A boba shop should have milk teas locked down. For that reason, I consider this more of a fun snack shop rather than a dedicated boba spot.

The space itself is absolutely stunning with lots of seating both inside and outside. The store has a lot of floral decor, which gives it a very clean and spring vibe. The standouts for me here was the banana pudding, Matcha and the array of pastries they had available. We purchased two drinks here, one of which was the banana pudding Matcha and the other was a tiramisu cold brew. The banana pudding Matcha is one of the best drinks I've ever had with a rich high-quality Matcha and fresh creamy banana pudding inside. It's basically two desserts in one, and the flavors complement each other so well. Highly highly recommend - it's viral for a reason. The tiramisu cold brew was also good, although next time I would probably opt for a latte on the bottom since the cold brew is pretty strong. The foam on top was sweet and creamy. The pastries here are absolutely stunning, and I wish I could buy the entire display case. We ended up purchasing a Dubai chocolate croissant and a plain salt bread. The Dubai chocolate croissant was very unique - on the drier side but it definitely had that crunch and flake. I wish they had a little bit more chocolate or buttery elements to balance out the dryness of the cocoa powder. The salt bread was absolutely delicious, very well-made with a chewy texture. I will 100% be back to try everything else that Bag of Cakes has to offer. Highly recommend!
