Tried out Broken Yolk Cafe for brunch and it definitely delivered a solid, no-frills breakfast experience. Went with the buttermilk full stack, a side of fruit, and sausage patties. The pancakes were exactly what you want fluffy, slightly crispy on the edges, and soaked up the syrup well without getting soggy. Nothing overly fancy, just done right. The fruit was fresh and a nice balance to cut through all the carbs, and the sausage patties had that classic savory, slightly greasy breakfast flavor that hits the spot. Service was quick and the overall vibe is casual and easy...good for a laid-back brunch without overthinking it. It's not trying to reinvent breakfast, but it executes the staples really well. Our server susy was super sweet attentive and overall a really cool girl. Oh and the host staff was awesome too. Overall, a dependable spot when you're craving a classic, filling breakfast. Definitely a step above your Dennys ihop or norms tier. Clean and less of the like homeless / sketchy crackhead demographic you'd expect at those 24 / 7 breakfast & lunch joints. Buenos días mi gente. Have a good one.

I have been to other locations before and this was the first time going to the Irvine one. I like their interior decor. It feels very modern and clean. Just like any other brunch place, there was a bit of a wait to get in, and it's good to know that you can put yourself on the waitlist ahead of time. Once we got to the table, the service was very fast. Food was delicious. I had the oat milk matcha and lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything was good. The only thing I noticed was their menu -- everything seemed kind of plain because there are so many other brunch restaurants nearby that all try to make their menu stand out. I wish they had more interesting dishes. To be fair, they had the pineapple matcha drink, but it wasn't something that I wanted to try.

Came in around noon on a Monday. Seated quickly but didn't get water for a while. Ask for water and refill and took a while. Coffee was refilled quick My server recommended me half and half on the egg Benedict which was such a great idea. I asked all the sauce to on the side which was accommodated Food was cooked fast but I got tiny bits of avocado. Tiny! Tomato too. Wasn't how I pictured it. The green sauce was yummy. But I felt I really didn't get what I paid for. I went home and cut myself half a tomato and half an avocado and ate them. :-/ Prob not come again even tho it's a friendly place.

The tropical flight (subbed guava for orange) was delicious across the board. Strawberry was my favorite. Super well-balanced, lightly boozy, and each one came topped with fresh fruit that was the perfect finishing touch. The Choose 2 Benedicts were solid. The Border Benedict had a creamy green sauce with carne asada (flavorful, not spicy) and the corn cake soaked up the sauce nicely. The chicken & waffle Benedict was good; waffle slightly sweet but balanced. Hollandaise was excellent. Only wish the eggs were runnier. Biscuits were a bit dry but decent with the peppery gravy. Chicken tenders were very well seasoned. Definitely coming back to try more!

My mom and I were in the mood for some Easter brunch and decided to try this spot after having always driven past it. Even though Yelp said we were 21st in line, we ended up getting seated 5ish minutes after checking in. it's a cute and welcoming spot, though the light above our booth kept flickering in and out (?). I ordered the golden state benedict, my mom got the hash skillet, and we got a side of bacon. The first pass of our meal came out soon after ordering. I say first pass because we had to send 2 of our items back to the kitchen: my hashbrowns (that accompanied my benedict) and the side of bacon. The overarching word to describe our meal is "limp." My hash browns were limp. I don't think I've ever been served limper hashbrowns. I'm not one to send food back to the kitchen (I'll usually just tough it out), but I wanted crispy hashbrowns and these were just not up to par whatsoever. The bacon was also limp and chewy. Our server kindly took both dishes back to the kitchen, and everything came back a bit crispier soon after. My benedict itself was underwhelming. The English muffin was either severely undertoasted or not toasted at all. For me, an English muffin should be over toasted to compensate for the heavy hollandaise sauce, runny yolk, and all the residual moisture in a benedict -- this one was just limp again. The hollandaise sauce was too heavy and was missing some acidity to round out the sauce and balance all the flavours out. The sauce itself was also a tad broken, but that was honestly the least of my concerns. The hash skillet was arguably more mid. I want to say it was a 95:5 ratio of soggy potatoes to corned beef. There was maybe a soup spoon of corned beef hiding under the potatoes. TLDR: bland and mid. Disappointing experience, only made better by the fact that prices are fair.

Busy breakfast joint! It was a rainy Saturday morning, and we were looking for a good brunch in Irvine. Unfortunately everything had a crazy wait! Fortunately Broken Yolk had a Yelp wait list we could add our name to, so we shaved off about 10 minutes from our wait time while we drove there. I think we waited about 5 minutes once we arrived at the restaurant. We were seated in a corner booth which was nice and roomy for a party of 3. The food mediocre. I ordered chicken and waffles, and got 4 super dry tenders on top of waffles. Nothing was fantastic imo. I've dined at the HB location many times, and I remembered it being better than this. My mimosa was good though! :)

wait here could get a bit long on the weekend during peak hours. theres a good amount of seating inside but some of the tables feel cramped because they're trying to fit as many people in as possible. food was standard for brunch. i liked their french toast and chilaquiles!! portions are quite large and it was a lot of food to share for 2 people

Overall: A little pricey, but an overall lovely and nice brunch spot! I appreciated the option for the Yelp waitlist. Got the croissant sandwich, which was a much bigger portion than expected (though no complaints here about that). Service: Very nice server and friendly hosts in the front! Got seated quickly and they were very attentive. Ambiance: Very pretty, bright, and open concept.

Broken yolk cafe was mediocre. If you are in a hurry this is the place to dine. We ate on a Sunday morning at 9am. We did not wait long to be seated. Our server was quick & friendly. The service 10/10. The quality of food: 5/10. We ordered the Belgian waffle, meat lovers omelet, breakfast croissant and a kids chicken with fries. Our food was brought to our table under ten minutes. I like that there was always staff walking by if we needed anything we can ask and they were helpful. The waitress checked on us at all the right times. We did not need to ask for our check which I loved. She even checked and brought us to go boxes. I am used to having to wait for the check and wait to get a to go box. If I could change something it would be a larger table space cause we sat at a half a booth table for the six of us. The plates and portions were large. Also the taste of the food was just O.K. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. I ordered the Belgian waffle with strawberry sauce and whipped cream on the side. When it was brought to me it was just waffle with slices of strawberry. So no strawberry "sauce" or puree. It wasn't served with butter I had to ask. If you are eating pancakes or waffles I feel like butter is an automatic pairing that goes with it. The bacon was not cooked "enough" I know everyone has their preference of how crispy or not crispy they like it but it seemed they just warmed up some bacon or "cooked" it for a few minutes it was limp still raw ish looking. Maybe that's why the food was brought so quickly cause the food was just made in a rush. If they spent more time elevating the flavor and quality of the food this place would be amazing. I appreciate how much staff was there and how helpful and quick they were. The quality and taste of the food can improve.

After all these years this was the first time I have been to this Broken Yolk location and I was happy I did. The breakfast was great. I was feeling gluttonous so I got the chicken fried steak with eggs over medium, home fries and sourdough bread. This was one of the better chicken fried steaks I have had, love the gravy and the batter. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The whole meal was perfect. I even got to try some the buttermilk pancakes, delicious. Nice and fluffy. I will definitely be back.

    Hash Skillet

We joined on the Yelp waitlist and it said the wait was only 1-11 min. However, when we arrived we were 21st on the waitlist? But we did get seated in 5-6 min. The atmosphere here was clean, pleasant, hustling on an Easter Sunday as one would expect. My daughter ordered the Golden State Benedict and I chose the Hash Skillet and an extra side of bacon to share. My Hash Skillet had heaps of potato underneath 2 sunny side eggs. There was barely any corned beef hash on here- more of what I would describe as a "dusting" of corned beef, hidden beneath the eggs! The potatoes were unseasoned and just tasted like boiled potatoes. I left behind half a heap of potatoes. Now onto our second plate of Benedict. The side of hash browns was incredibly limp and my daughter had to request it to be re-crisped. They ended up replacing it with browner hash browns. However some comments are in order with the Benedict. The muffin was not toasted enough. When you're having runny yolks and a heavier sauce on top you'd think that a crisp muffin to counterbalance all the wet elements would be in order. But no. The muffin, barely warmed, made the dish feel even heavier and soggy. And the hollandaise lacked lemon juice, a splash of acidity to brighten and lighten the sauce. Lastly were the strips of bacon we ordered extra. They were limp and chewy like shoe leather. They replaced it with browner bacon but alas it still wasn't crispy. Overall, it was a dismal Sunday brunch we had- the type you'd rather sadly want to forget about sooner. This is not a place we'd wish to set foot in again, ever. I think even Denny's would've been a better option...

We found out that 7 AM on a Saturday, you can actually get a seat as you walk in. Service was fantastic with all of the menu items explained to us thoroughly. The portions are big especially for Irvine pricing. You should try it out if you are in the area early in the morning.

The menu is detailed, you just have to pay attention to things like the burgers don't come with condiments unless you ask for them, especially if you're getting your order to go! The food was really good & exactly what we were expecting. The service was great as well, the staff are very attentive. Happy that it's local, we will be going back!

I wanted to share some comprehensive feedback regarding a recent experience, aiming to highlight both your successes and areas where further refinement could elevate the customer journey even further. First and foremost, I must commend your team for their exceptional warmth and hospitality. From my initial phone call to the moment I picked up my order, I felt genuinely welcomed and valued. This level of customer service, which often feels lacking in many establishments today, truly sets American Grub apart. It creates a welcoming atmosphere that significantly enhances the overall experience, and I sincerely hope this commitment to friendliness remains a cornerstone of your operation. However, I encountered a couple of points that, in my personal opinion, warrant consideration for improvement. Regarding the payment process, I felt a degree of apprehension about providing my credit card details over the phone. While I understand the operational need to secure orders and prevent potential losses, particularly for larger transactions, for a single item like my bacon cheeseburger, priced at $17.24 including tax, this practice felt somewhat disproportionate. I also noted the 99-cent fee for online payments, which, while minor, might deter some customers who are seeking convenience without additional charges. Perhaps exploring alternative secure payment links for phone orders or adjusting the fee structure for smaller transactions could enhance customer comfort and streamline the process. My primary concern, however, arose upon returning home. Despite ordering a bacon cheeseburger, I discovered the burger completely lacked bacon, as well as any form of sauce or mayonnaise. This oversight had a significant impact on the meal; the absence of these core components rendered the burger quite bland and far from the experience I had anticipated. When ordering a single item, the expectation for meticulous attention to detail is particularly high, as there are fewer variables. Consequently, the overall value of the meal, given the missing ingredients, was not quite met on this occasion. I did reach out to the owner privately via email to discuss these points, and I appreciate their responsiveness and transparency in addressing my feedback, particularly concerning the rationale behind the phone payment policy. It is reassuring to know that your business is open to customer input. My hope is that these observations can serve as constructive input, allowing American Grub to continue refining its excellent service and product quality. I remain a supporter of your local endeavor and look forward to seeing these aspects addressed. Thank you for reaching out. To clarify, all my reviews and communications are crafted solely from my personal experiences and genuine perspectives, not AI. Every word and insight you read is authentically mine, driven by my commitment to provide honest feedback. Even though the review was long..(lol) I wanted to make sure the details are accurate and understandable. Plus I think you and your establishment are great and I wanted to detail that as well Kimberly.
