This has to be the worst dining experience of my life. I've been to Napa numerous times and ate pretty much everywhere except at Brix. I finally made it a point to eat at Brix this time around. My girlfriend and I went to Brix on Aug 31, 2019 around 5PM. We were seated right away since it was pretty early in the day, but we were hungry. Once entered we noticed a number of flies hovering around the glass doors in the main dining area. Given the time of the year, it was somewhat reasonable to accept this as we were surround by a garden and nature is nature. We just didn't realize how bad it was. The server said hi and if we wanted something to drink. None of the waiters seemed very friendly or welcoming, as if they hated their jobs...This was another ref flag. We stuck with basic water and orders the Burrata and heirloom tomato salads. They were okay, lacked flavor and were served close to room temperature, but shouldnt be the case for salads. We ate those and there were some flues buzzing around, but nothing too crazy. Once the main dishes came out, halibut and bucatini, the flies swarmed and pretty much were all over us. There was at least 5‐10 flies buzzing on us, our table, plates, etc. It was untolerable and we told the waiter we couldn't eat this and should not expect anyone to endure such a horrible experience...especially for this type of establishment. The manager came out to the wrong table and apologized and we were like, "I think he was supposed to apologize to us as the party of 7‐8 just sat down". Basically the managerhad no idea what was going on. Then that table pointed to us because they couldn't but help notice us trying to shoe all the flies away. Eventually the manager made his way over tous and apologized saying it eas the weather, they left the doors open all day and there was nothing they could do. That was complete BS. If I had a restaurant, I would have closed the place for an hour and kill as many flies as possible so the customers won't be bothers. I eat out all the time and accept thar based on weather and food type, a fly or two in the restaurant is normal...they just fly in when people open the doors. This experience was different, 5‐10 swarming you is never acceptable anywhere except for third world countries. Also to note, we saw the party of 7‐8 seated after us received a bread basket immediately while we never did. Never received any pre-meal bread or anything. Maybe it was an item menu they ordered but I doubt it. So given the swarm of flies we told the waiter we can't enjoy our meal after one bite, and said we need to leave. They had the gall to charge us for the $30 for salads. Any other establishment would just have aplogized and say the salads were comped given bad experience and ask for you to give them another opportunity next time and contact the manager to make sure we had a plesant experience. Nope, no shits given at Brix. I've noticed this at a number of places in Napa, they really don't care if you come back or not. Overall, this place, Brix, was an embarassment of an establishment. So if you see a mnumber of flies on the windows and glass doors, turn around and leave, they will swarmed you once the food comes out. We ended up deciding on having brunch here on a weekend. Reservations were made ahead just to ensure we get seating. From what most people reviews, it get pretty busy. We arrived about 30 minutes before our reserved time and we were seated pretty quick. I was pretty excited to see what they have to offer because of the great reviews. As soon as we were seated, I requested for coffee for our table then headed out to the buffet area. When I got back to our table, coffee wasn't served yet. It took awhile before we got our coffee. There's a wide array of food selection. The refill part was just pretty slow. When I got to select my food, most of the trays were empty and had to get whatever was available. The first area are the different types of salad. Then, they have the hot food sections which consisted of their homemade sausage, bacon, pizza, braised riblets, pancakes, french toast, roasted/sauteed mix veggies, clams, eggs Benedict, corned beef croquettes. On the seafood/cold section were shrimp cocktails, smoked salmon, ceviche and bread. And they also have their dessert area. Food was pretty good. Just wish they could prep oysters quicker. Had to wait awhile before getting more fresh oysters. Most of the time, the person shucking wasn't there at the oyster station. There ambiance was perfect! While dining, you can see outdoors and take pictures outside afterwards. Once we got the coffee, refills and table check on what we may need is pretty slow on the service end. Terrible service was pathetic and food sub par at best. Finally seated after having to wait 15 minutes for our reservation, waitress came over, in at shirt and jeans, approximately 8 minutes after being sat to ask if we wanted to order. Started with 2 appetizers, soup and drinks for the table. One appetizer came about 10 minutes later. Still no drinks- a second bottle of water was ordered and came. Finally drinks came. My glass of bubbles- warm. Eventually second appetizer came. 10 minutes later had to ask about where soup was. Waitress came back, without soup, and said it got out on wrong ticket. 5 minutes later it came out. About 20 minutes later, Waitress came back to tell us our entrees would be coming out before our pasta and salad course- told her no. Waited another 15 minutes and salads were brought out along with pasta and entrees. There was no staggering at all. The table was overflowing. The entrees had clearly been put under a heat lamp and were totally overcooked. No steak knife was brought for our steaks and it was inedible. Couldn't cut it and it was so tough from sitting under a heat lamp. The petrole sole was inedible and bone dry. A huge disappointment and absolute waste of almost $500. Waitress couldn't have cared less about any part of our dining experience. Have gone to brix for over 30 years and will never be going back. read more

Went here to celebrate our anniversary. - Stone Fruit salad: special of the day. It was delicious. Fresh fruits, light dressing, the feta was tasty. Really enjoyed eating it. - Prime Rib: special of the day. It was perfect. Loved the piece of meet, came with some marbling as we requested. It was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The stuffed potato was also delicious. - lamb: special of the day. The meat was great, and it came with side of fried veggies and delicious fresh tomatoes, which helped lighten up the meat. The pesto sauce was amazing and added great flavor to the meat. Peach & Blueberry Crisp: it was delicious & came out fresh. Beautiful flavors, crisply & nice on the top and moist & yummy inside. I didn't care about the ice cream on top. It was frozen and had lemon flavor. Personally not a fan of lemon ice cream and didn't like the frozen texture. Could have done without or or just a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream. The restaurant is beautiful, outdoor area is dreamy. Bathrooms are clean & nice. Service is top notch. We were celebrating our anniversary. They put a nice card for us and brought us complimentary champaign & chocolate. Really appreciated it. The service/manager was pretty awful and the food was subpar. I would expect better food from a restaurant that is so expensive. The view was very lovely, however, I wouldn't recommend this place for dinner unless they retrain their staff and improve their food quality. Over the years, DH and I have stopped several times at Brix for lunch or Sunday Brunch. Whether a sunny day or a rainy one, it has always been a pleasant experience. Our last visit was this spring, shortly after they had re-opened after their renovation. Beautiful job! We had been wine tasting and needed food -- not more wine, although Brix does have a good wine list. I had the Big Brix Lunch Salad which was brimming with goodies from their garden. Chicken was my add on. (Decided $10 for shrimp was not worth it.) I also had a side of cornmeal fritters. Perhaps they were a seasonal item as I no longer see them on the menu. Or perhaps there were complaints. I found them almost inedible -- too much baking powder or salt? DH stuck to a tried-and-true Brix Burger with parmesan fries ... $21. The most interesting thing about the burger presentation was the word BRIX branded on the top of the bun. The burger was on a white plate and the fries were in a separate white bowl. Bland presentation, considering there is a beautiful garden only steps away. DH said he missed the wire cone that the fries had been served in in past years. The prices are typical of Napa. But the meal did not "knock us out." Pleasant but nothing that special -- especially considering our young server seemed new on the job and could not answer several questions. We no doubt will return to Brix, but most likely for Sunday Brunch which has always been outstanding. read more

Oh my goodness, what beauty. Eating open air as the Napa Wine train chugs past Brix' abundant gardens. It is a frozen moment in goodness. The gals were drying out mid day, but I plunged into a Rose and the chicken paillard. So complex, there were mini servings of a green onion chutney and a purple cauliflower puree and the tenderest oerfectest chicken breast ever. May be the most beautiful restaurant. read more

My three friends & I came here to celebrate a birthday on May 15th and it was hands down the WORST dining experience I've ever had. We had a reservation for 7:45pm which we booked three weeks in advance (myself and two of my friends are BIPOC.) When my friends and I arrived, the hostess told us that our table wasn't ready so we decided to walk around their outdoor area, no problem. After 20 minutes, one of my friends went to check on our table and was met with hostility from our hostess. She told my friend that our table still wasn't ready and that we can wait in the wine room. This was strange as there appeared to be many tables available. As my friends and I began waiting in the wine room, I noticed that an employee was watching us, almost like she thought we were going to try and steal something. Very uncomfortable. After 10 more minutes of waiting, we were told that our table was ready. My friends and I were then led to an "overflow area." This room was separate from the main dining room, had no view of the property and had tables/chairs against the windows. We were confused, as there were open tables in the main dining room, but we were very hungry at this point so we decided to sit down and began to order our food/drinks. After we placed our order, another group of BIPOC guests were seated next to us in this "overflow area." We were taken aback because as we were walking to our table, we noticed that the guests in the main dining room were all white. We tried to ignore it, as we were celebrating a birthday. By the time we got our food, ANOTHER group of BIPOC guests were seated in this "overflow" area. My friend (who's birthday we were celebrating) went and walked a lap around the restaurant and confirmed that indeed, the main dining area still had open tables and the guests that occupied the reserved tables were still all white. At this point, we decided to go on Yelp to look at the reviews and found a review by Graciela that echoed a very similar experience. I have a VERY hard time believing that all of the BIPOC guests were seated together in another room by COINCIDENCE. As someone who works in the wine industry, I am deeply disappointed that management has not done the BARE MINIMUM by making their establishment inclusive to all, especially since this issue was previously raised by another guest VERY recently. There is a high barrier to entry in the wine world and this is a first hand example. If you are a person of color, please do not patronize this restaurant. read more

Good and Bad! We enjoyed our meal on the patio at Brix today. Food and wine were wonderful. Service was great and the setting is breathtaking! Our lovely time was overshadowed by the final two minutes as we left the restaurant. As I was exiting the restroom, what seemed to be a manager was having angry words with the young girl at the front desk. His final comment was "if this happens again, I'm going to have to write you up!". There is absolutely never a reason for patrons of an establishment to hear this type of exchange. This should have been handled in private. There was another couple coming in the door and this was what greeted them. Instead of talking about how much we enjoyed our lunch and BRIX on the way home we talked about the poor behavior of the manager. Food is ok, service is even worse. We made a reservation for our fourth or fifth visit to Brix, and the experience A-Z was crap. I called to make a lunch reservation for outdoor seating for two families of four - four adults and four young kids. They immediately wanted me to speak to the large/group reservation desk, even though I explained that the large party was comprised of 50% kids. Finally, after I suggested that we would take two separate tables and practically having to make a legal case (10 minutes at least) for the setup, the person on the phone rudely and begrudgingly agreed. Fast forward, we arrive to the restaurant with our out-of-town visitors and lo and behold...their patio is at best 50% occupied. What was all the fuss for? The other family and ours were sat at tables next to each other and we started to close the 2 ft gap between our tables...the restaurant manager then proceeded to come by and admonish us. I don't use admonish lightly; this was a lecture that flashed us all back to childhood. Anyway, we agreed to cease and desist - apparently pushing tables together is an epic sin. Service was great otherwise - our server was incredibly nice and attentive. Other than that, not sure why staff/servers aren't masking up given the spike in the Delta variant in Napa, food was average at best and overpriced for the quality/taste, but have to say that the patio is beautiful and definitely captures the essence of Napa. Probably not coming back: can deal with average food, but not bad service. read more

This restaurant is adorable from the swing at the front entrance to the vegetable and sunflower garden in the back. This sets a really nice ambiance for a Sunday brunch. We had the outdoor seating which was lovely since it was a very nice day out and your view is a bed of sunflowers and endless varieties of plants. The food selection is just right...not too much but enough of a variety that is satisfying. My favorites were the fresh oysters, Siracha hot wings, heirloom tomato/watermelon salad and the French toast. The French toast is petite which is just the perfect size as a sample so you can return for more. They also have an omelette / egg cook to order. My husband got some fresh oysters and asked the cook to make an oyster omelette. Lol! Desserts also have a nice variety. The mini size macaroons are amazing! I wish I can fill up a box and eat them like popcorns on our drive home. The cooks and the servers behind the counters were super friendly and seems very happy to be there. The table service, on the other hand puts a small damper to the whole experience. The servers were only slightly courteous and not very friendly. It could have been perfect if the servers were a little warmer. The brunch is reasonably priced and it comes with coffee and tea. You can pay a little more to get the alcohol option. Their food is good (if you order the right thing) and it's always a great time walking out into their garden with your glass of wine in between meals. We came here for brunch as our other plans fell through because of the rain. We made reservations for 10am the day before. They open at 10am. We arrived a bit before 10am and checked out their mini garden in the back. We were seated promptly and the decor is quite nice. I liked that the tables weren't too close to one another. We opted for just water as we were driving back to the Bay after brunch but they have an extensive menu. The brunch was pretty good. They have a good variety of options from standard brunch items such as scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, eggs Benedict, etc. They also have cheese and meat charcuterie. The salami was really good. Some highlights - clams, oysters, try tip, strawberry french toast. We also liked that some of the items were cut small - the eggs benedict was a mini version. The strawberry french toast was cut into small pieces. The strawberry was cooked into the bread! The service was amazing. They clear out your plate and utensil every time and replace the utensils. A server finally came and asked if tap water is okay. But no water for another five minutes. Amazing we sat at table 35 right in front of the station and had no water. Bus boys standing around but it never occurred to them that they should offer us some water. We must be invisible. We left 15 minutes after being seated with no greetings and water. On the way out we let the hostess in black know and she just stood there and didn't even offer an apology. Wow. The service left a lot to be desired. Came here with a large group dinner following a full day of lectures. The service for such a large group was spot on. We all started with a nice salad which was the perfect amount and mixture of greens and other vegetables. I ordered the pan seared Alaskan halibut which was served on coconut rice, dungeness crab, shiitake mushroom, hot & sour lobster broth. The halibut was amazing with the right amount of veggies, crab and starch to complete the entree. We all finished the evening with a dessert of brown butter apple tart with huckleberries, bourbon pecan ice cream, caramel sauce. I wish I could of give zero stars. They ruined my birthday dinner and management did not care. Not only that but they are racist, if you are a person of color do not come here. The atmosphere is not welcoming to us. They sat me and my party in table all the way to the back next to the dumpsters when there was enough space to sit in the front because I made my reservations far in advance. The general manager and assistant manager were there as well but looked at us with disgust, this restaurant needs to hire new management. Their comment was there is no space to sit y'all in the front but as time passes only white folks were being sat in the front, then an asian family came and got sat in the back next to the dumpsters with us when there was more than enough space to sit us in the center to admired the vineyard instead of looking at a dumpster and walls in the back corner. Not only that, to ruin my birthday even more they cut my cake without permission, an expensive cake in fact. Do not even apologize and say there is a mandatory cake cutting fee. I NEVER ASKED for my cake to be cut and they cut it before my party could even sing happy birthday to me. I have contacted the vineyard owners but no responses, I have been dealing with multiple reports to this restaurant. No one has even tried to reach out to me. I just warn y'all to not come here because it is not welcoming environment from staff and management. Brix was a great first dinner in wine country for us. The outdoor patio area is beautiful and we had good service. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and it was good, but had SO MUCH butter and not enough cheese. My dad and husband both had short ribs and let me say those were outstanding! Their desserts were also very good, particularly the nectarine and blueberry crisp and the chocolate torte. This place is so beautiful! Even the entrance (kind of like a waiting area, with a swing). We started out in the garden, walked around a bit watching the sunset (we got there a bit earlier than our reservation time) and then were sat at a table outside surrounded by string lights and fire pits. The tempura beans were a great start, and my mushroom risotto was delicious. It has been a while since we last had a meal at Brix. A few years ago, Brix redesigned the whole restaurant by taking the bar area to the center of the restaurant, upgraded the outdoor patios and bling up the dinning room area. We started off with amazing cocktails at the bar area. Our tables are inside in the main dining area overlooking the outdoor patio. We had a few starters (grilled artichoke was a stand out), as for the mains we had the short ribs that was amazing! They have a decent amount of options for alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The staff very very nice and welcoming. I had the mushroom stuffed shells and sadly it was slightly salty. The two stars are for the friendly staff and great ambiance. The place is beautiful and the staff is super nice! There's a gorgeous view from the patio and beautiful little garden. The inside is gorgeous as well. The problem is- the food. We ordered the crab fondue and chicken carbonara. The crab fondue portion is very small and not very tasteful but it was okay. The chicken carbonara was the problem. Essentially it was chicken noodle soup. The pasta was not creamy it was watery and the flavor was exactly chicken noodle soup - for $27 it was hugely disappointing, Olive Garden has better pasta for less. There's a vegetable garden right next to the outside seating area and a expansive vineyard view. We sat at the bar since the place was fully booked for the day. I highly recommend the steak frites ( cooked how I requested and beautiful presentation) and grilled crab ( very generous serving of crab) sandwich from their lunch menu. The tempura greens beans ...delicious, they also have a great selection of wines but since I can't really drink and feel good afterwards, I had to pass sadly. On our last day of our CA trip our family had brunch at Brix. It is located a little bit north of Napa and the drive there from our hotel was just beautiful. Passing some vineyards and mountains. The scenery is beautiful. Brix has two parking lots (so plenty of parking!). They also have a very neat garden where they grow their own vegetables and herbs. We had so much fun walking around and exploring their beautiful outdoor space. Once we arrive we were seated immediately. We were given a table away from the main dining area (which almost gave you the feeling you are in a private dining area!). Service was great! Our server was very friendly and professional. Explaining the menu and specials they have and was great in giving recommendations. The food was great as well! We absolutely loved their fried green beans. Y'all have to know my boys are not big fans of green beans but this they devoured (young and old) enjoyed the appetizer. We ordered breakfast (egg Benedict, fried chicken, pancakes, steak and egg and the kids had their ultimate favorite grilled cheese sandwiches). The food was hearty and solid. Something you would expect when you order breakfast/brunch. The steak was cooked perfectly and was tender. The pancakes were fluffy and soft. But their dessert was amazing! We ordered their sorbet and strawberry shortcake. It was refreshing, sweet and just a great way to finish a great meal. What used to be one of my favorite place in Napa is no longer a place on my list. The face of a place is in its staff. We met the worst front desk lady today. I had booked the place a week before, asked for a table outside for a health reason that is important, drove almost 2 hours to find that the seating is not there for outside, she didn't even bother to let us know ahead of time, didn't do the effort to suggest a waiting time or to even allocate a table for the condition we were in and basically quiet rude attitude. She should definitely not be welcoming guests in or even assigning their seatings. I would put a zero for front desk personnel and her attitude, she's lucky she got a 1 star just because the food used to be good. read more
