Paid $60 for a steak that can be topped by Applebees. More chew than swallow. The Special cocktail (old fashioned) was warm and half shot. Service was actually very attentive, perhaps to make up for the kitchen and bar (the drink was wam, did it sit for awhile) The building, the architecture , interior decoration is a blend of 1960s, 1980s, and some stone to draw you in with no acoustic balance which equates an elementary lunch room. This place is a legendary Napa valley classic that serves California/French fusion. Came early for a reservation after a wine tasting for dinner- they weren't able to accommodate us earlier but we happily chatted it out at the bar. It's a spacious, beautiful bar with windows overlooking their luscious gardens to which you are able to peruse before or after dinner. The food was delicious- the fried green beans weren't too oily and it was perfectly crunchy. The ahi tuna, although, was very underwhelming. You can see in the pictures- little mini cubes of tuna that can fit in two or three of the chips. Despite that, not attached below, the shrimp and grits was delicious and the chicken was even better. We closed our indulgence off with the butterscotch pot de creme, which I would say to be a house specialty at Brix. You cannot miss that. Something else you cannot miss when opting for outdoors will be the flies and the bees. They do have devices that can aid in ridding of them- unfortunately even with two, the bees went from a count of two to almost eight and we had to move indoors. They were more than happy to accommodate. It's part of being in the valley and is inevitable- happy to overlook that. We had lunch today at Brix, and we took our friends who were visiting from UK thinking it will be a great Napa experience. They took 30 mins to even start with our table, and after we placed the order no food came for 45 minutes. So basically we were outside in the heat for 1 hour 15 mins with just our drinks. They were clearly overwhelmed, but for the type of restaurant it seems to be and the prices of the food we expected better service. The food was alright, but nothing that would make us feel it was worth the bad experience. read more

Sadly, Brix is going down hills, and super fast! Took my parents and brother to celebrate my brother's birthday on a Friday. We have not been back in over a year. Things have changed, unsure due to the Napa fire or the Covid pandemic? Or the business has a different management? Brix always offered tasty food with such amazing view of the Napa vineyard. The majestic view with good food is the only reason why I would travel a couple of hours to lunch here. This time, my experience was horrible and disappointing to the max. I'm easily getting excited with food but no longer at Brix! A $16 appetizer for one small artichoke is crazy! I was upset that my artichoke was without the Heart! OMG! For $26.00 got you the thinnest and super oily hamburger I have ever seen at a restaurant! The size of truffle fries was also small. Surprisingly, the food was not hot! The service was also remarkably poor! Our food came to our table later than other tables with people coming after us. I was very upset that the Asian lady kept taking our plates when we were not done eating! Terrible! Outrageous! Shouldn't people ask before taking our plates away? We had dinner at Brix with our friends that lived in Napa. The grounds was amazing. The entry way had rows of grapes. The dining area was lovely, but nothing beats the patio area. The yard showed off the beautiful view of Napa Valley. The grounds had grass areas for kids to run around in, beautiful sunflowers to take family pictures. The sun was setting and it was a pretty hot day when we arrived. They had shades that helped with the scorching sun, but once the sun has set, the breeze was perfect. We ordered tempura green beans for appetizers and their famous punch to start with. Our friends brought a bottle of cab from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. Brix charged for a cork fee. My husband ordered the burger and fries, I ordered the short rib with polenta, my friends ordered the steak frise and a prime rib. The dinner was delicious. We ended with a strawberry biscuit and cream. I enjoyed the ambiance, and we were there for awhile but they team there didn't rush us to turn the table, which was great! read more

Had Sunday brunch for the first time, and we will definitely be back! Made online reservations the day before for 10:15am seating. We were running late, called ahead to let them know and they still accommodated us as we walked in 15 minutes late. (It wasn't that crowded yet) We sat inside by the window overlooking the back patio. It was tough to decide what to order without over ordering. We ended up with the Avocado Toast with bacon and poached eggs and the Bananas Foster French Toast and a couple mimosas. The mimosas were mostly OJ with a tiny splash of bubbly, I was disappointed as I never drink OJ unless it's with champagne. My husbands French Toast was amazing, delicious and not too sweet. The potatoes had a unique smoky flavor to it, really good for breakfast potatoes. My Avo Toast was good! I have Avo Toast a lot and I liked this version... the pimento cheese spread was interesting. They initially forgot my poached eggs but brought them out within a few minutes. They were perfectly poached the way I like slightly runny. Good food, good service, too many good things on the menu to try so we will be back! Great first time experience, highly recommend! read more

We had dinner at Brix in August 2021 during a visit to Napa Valley. The restaurant and scenery are really beautiful, and worth a visit just for that. Although the menu isn't very spectacular, the food was really nice. We had the buratta and shrimp/pork potstickers as starters, both of which were very tasty. For entrees, we had the porcine fettuccine and the braised short rib, and both were really delicious. Did dessert we shared the strawberry short cake, which was nice, but it's something you'd find in an average bakery. The wine list was okay, but a little boring taking in mind that you're in the Walhalla of Californian wine country. Our server was very friendly, but some of the staff seemed a bit grumpy, the hostesses in particular. Not a biggie though. Should you go there, sure. Would I go back, probably not. read more

They don't get 5 stars because there was nothing I thought was a wow factor. That being said, they did everything right. Loved the atmosphere. I interacted with a handful of different staff and everyone was smiling and enjoying themselves - which says a lot about their working environment. Coming from the industry it's easy to see when the staff works well together as a team. I can't remember our servers name but she was great - there when we needed her and not hovering over the table when we didn't. Wife and I ordered steak and fish, and both were excellent. Overall the ambiance, the service and the food were fantastic. One single item I suppose I'll have to agree to disagree on is that the "Butterscotch Pot de Creme" is really butterscotch pudding - albeit a delicious butterscotch pudding. read more

For the last few years this has been one of our favorite places for lunch. The last few times, however, have been beyond disappointing. Today we were seated at an indoor table even though we had requested outdoor and reserved one almost a week in advance. After being seated, we were given water and then waited almost 20 minutes for our server to appear. Once he did, we ordered our glasses of wine and our meal. Over 30 minutes passed and we got nothing. We didn't even see our server. Finally, someone delivered our meal, but still no glasses of wine. I asked about the wine when the meal was brought out and she said she would check on it, and then disappeared as well. About a quarter of the way through our meal, or server finally reappeared and seemed very dismissive of our situation, and said he would get our wine. After almost 10 minutes, we finally got the wine. Like I said, we have eaten here before and I always order the wine. This time, however, the glasses had barely a half inch of wine in them, very different from the other times. On top of all this, we had to wait at least another 20 minutes to finally get our check and we paid full price for this terrible service. Oh, by the way, the restaurant was less than a quarter full and had plenty of servers. I hope this was just a bad day, but all the same, we will not be going back any time soon! read more

We spent a lot of time researching places to visit (attractions, wineries and food) while in Napa and decided to add Brix to our list; not only because of the crafty name, but also because they received a Michelin star. We were slightly disappointed though, as we felt this visit didn't live up to the Michelin star-type food and service we anticipated. Our server was friendly, but since we were way out in the cold back yard of the restaurant, service seemed to not be ass attentive as we are accustomed to receiving. We waited a while for our cocktails to make it to our table and questions were difficult to get answered since she wasn't checking up on us very often. Their menu is decent and we did have a tough time choosing what to get for appetizers and dinner, as many items looked very appetizing! The items we chose were nice, but definitely didn't live up to the level we expected. The carbonara was an interesting take on the originally-named dish. The braised shortribs were really good. Potstickers were nice, but not as warm as we would have expected. The area where we sat was really cold also and it wasn't a very good dining experience sitting out there. We made reservations many months before arriving, so I'm pretty sure if it was first come to get the patio, we should have gotten that area instead. Overall, we weren't very impressed, maybe because we set our expectations high due to their status. But I can't say we'd return when back in Napa. read more

Brix deserves their current Yelp rating. We were amped/excited to experience this restaurant and it could have been better. From the start, there were signals that this might not be the restaurant that we were hoping it was going to be. We had reservations at 6:30 and had arrived early so they said the bar area and grounds were available to use while waiting, great no problem. We went back up at 6:25 and they said to come back at 6:30. Weird since at 6:30 they took us to a table that had been empty since we arrived. The three appetizers were A-OK. However, the dinner was not good. My scallops plate was served with ice-cold mashed potatoes. Were they instant? I have my suspicions. The service was not attentive and no one seemed to see us looking around when we needed refills. Additionally, I had asked for a glass of wine to be served with my scallops per the chef's recommendations and never saw it. The desserts were A-OK. The grounds were amazing. I'm in love with this place. Ambience: We sat outside so it was gorgeous and looking upon their garden of veggies and some flowers, while the Napa train sometimes runs through which was cool to see. We came when they opened and even though we didn't sit inside they have a beautiful bar area and the inside seating is really nice and open as well. They even have a spot for a large party outdoors under some trees. Looks like a beautiful place to have a large family luncheon or dinner. What a beautiful day! Food: Ah-mazing! The Bone Marrow was so delicious. Sinful and delicious! The crab fondue was a hit, so much so, we want to try it at home! I had to have the fried green tomatoes. Delicious the sauce nice and spicy. We had the grilled chicken salad, duck sausage gumbo and the maple and chili corn in the cob. We decided to eat family style. We all wanted to try different things so this worked out perfectly. Service: Our wait staff was amazing! Literally all who waited on us not just the main server. The bus boy and the staff that brought the food out. Everyone was on top of it. We never had to ask for water. They were all attentive marks for a great team working together. We even forgot our corn which we never touched since we were stuffed. We wandered the garden and took photos and on the way to the car I realized we left it. They had it for us in the fridge. That was so nice. I can't wait to return. One of the best spots along the St. Helena Highway. After our last winery, we stopped at @brixnapavalley in around 6pm and we were able to sit down without a reservation. I ordered the FOUR CHEESE STUFFED PASTA SHELLS, made with kelleher cabernet sauvignon, portabella bolognese, parmesan reggiano, which were excellent! Really a great and filling plate! My wife had the HOUSE MADE POTATO GNOCCHI mary's chicken, leeks, roasted chicken broth, pecorino. We should have read the details alittle more or asked the waiter, but this tasted 100% like chicken soup. Not bad, but not what she was expecting. The dessert GLUTEN FREE CHOCOLATE TORTE berry compote, cocoa nibs, whipped cream, was spot on! Along with the great food, beautiful indoor and outdoor dining tables, they have open lounge tables and chairs in the bad overlooking grape vines, mountain, and get to see a great sunset! Had such a nice late lunch here yesterday. I had requested outdoor seating, but we ended up being seated inside in a semi-private room on the other side of the bar. We felt comfortably distanced from other guests. Our waitress was Jessica, and she was great and never rushed us. We ordered one of all the appetizers. My favorite, I think, were the potstickers and the green beans. The crab "fondue" was also good. The toasted bread slices were nice and buttery and crispy. The artichoke was a little undercooked--some of the leaves were still very tough. I had the french dip as my entree and the smokin passion margarita to drink. The margarita was great. The french dip was fine, not the best, but still good. (My second choice would have been the shrimp and grits, but I was in the mood for a lot of carbs!). The truffle fries, though, were great! For dessert, I had the butterscotch pot de creme and it was DIVINE. For six people and all the food/drinks we had, the bill came out to just about $100/person (including tip). It's about what we expected to pay for a decadent day out. You could easily get away with a much cheaper afternoon if you wanted to. read more

Apparently, I haven't been back in over 10 years?? I still really miss their Sunday brunch buffet. This time, we came for a weekday lunch and reserved a table on the patio. Parking is easy in their large private lot, but it was actually quite busy even on a weekday. Corkage is only $20/bottle, which is quite reasonable. The limit is 1 bottle per person, so essentially sky's the limit! In addition, they have a full bar. I tried The Oakville Grade: green tea vodka, st. germain, lemon - clean, smooth egg white, a legit cocktail. We had a vegetarian in the group, so it's really nice that they have a separate vegetarian and gluten free menu. We got some starters to share and then ordered our own entrees. - Fire roasted cauliflower: truffle cauliflower puree, lemon, currants, pine nut, brown butter - the brown butter was nice and nutty - Tempura green beans: the spicy mustard sauce was great, and breading wasn't too heavy - Wagyu beef tartare: traditional presration, served with garlic crostini, caviar, cornichons, dijon, egg yolk, pickled mustard seeds - Kohlrabi fritters: flat pancakes without too much batter, red cabbage puree, baby carrots, radish, tokyo turnips, leek oil - Mushroom risotto: with black truffle - sadly overly salted - Steak frites: fries were great, steak was nicely cooked medium rare and well seasoned, topped with mushrooms Service was prompt and friendly. The patio is really nicely set up, but it can get hot during lunch. Overall, there's a good variety on the menu with a lot of options with something for everyone. Brix, I don't know what happened since our last visit. Has there been a change in ownership? Every time we visit NAPA we end our visit with dinner at Brix. I'm not sure we will return after last night's visit. 1. This restaurant underwent a remodeling. It looks very nice. The bar is now located in the middle of the restaurant. The new layout allows a huge opening where if you were sitting inside makes you feel like you are actually sitting outside. I am a stickler for detail. The decor tile is not set in a straight line. Very noticeable when you stand in the lobby looking towards the kitchen. Minor details. 2. The menu has been changed. To be honest nothing on the menu was desirable. I had to ask what Artic Char was; never heard of it before. None of the basics were on the menu as in salmon, filet and basic chicken. It was all fancy. Too fancy. Spent $100 on a meal I did not even enjoy, did not even purchase alcohol. The crispy brussels sprouts were horrible. So crispy all the nutrients were baked out of them. You used offer but balsamic brussels sprouts. We love them so much we started making them the same at home. 3. This part was the worst. The restaurant is closed for 1 to 2 hours from lunch to dinner time. We arrived around 5:30pm. I went to use the ladies restroom and came across the first stall with an out of order sign. Unfortunately the door was wide open to the stall. The site was horrible. Picture is attached. I understand things like this may happen. That is acceptable. What is not acceptable is for your customers to see that horrible site especially as they are about to partake in an expensive dinner. The stall door could've been locked until it was clean. Or better yet it could've been cleaned prior to opening the restaurant at 5pm. I am wondering if no one felt it was their job and the janitor was not on duty at the time. We've had the: Salt and pepper fries-great Butter lettuce salad-okay Asparagus salad-great Brussels sprouts-great Cauliflower-good Short ribs-great Halibut-great Scallops-okay The wine list is awesome and if you choose the right wine, the prices are competitive and reasonable. They also offer "retail" pricing on bottles to go. Brix is making its way to my new favorite Napa dining spot. read more

We came for dinner as our trolley tour guide recommended. He said the food is both delicious and affordable. Food was a hit and miss. The crab fondue was delicious & had a good amount of crab. My seafood Provençal pasta was not as good. Seafood was good but pasta was a bit gooey. I am not sure why the texture was gooey. It was not al dente or mushy. But on the other hand, my friends short rib was tender and seasoned well. Not sure if I would recommend this restaurant as a must try in Napa. read more

My parents came here about 30 years ago when they visited Napa. They remembered it being delicious so the three of us decided to try it. It was my first time so I really wasn't sure what to expect. The inside was beautiful with spacious tables and nice lighting. The huge glass doors opened up to the outside where there were gorgeous gardens and lots of tables for seating. We sat right between the inside and outside which was perfect. Our server came over right away and we ordered the burrata for appetizer and the scallops, salmon, and halibut for the main courses. The burrata was delicious. I ordered the salmon and when it came out, it was extremely salty and pretty fishy as well. I'm not that picky when it comes to salmon but this definitely didn't taste right...my parents agreed. I hate sending back food but I just couldn't eat this so my server kindly took my order and asked me if it was okay that it took 20 minutes to make. I didn't mind waiting, I ordered the fried chicken. It came out about 35 minutes later and the chicken was very good, so was the biscuit and greens, but the mashed potatoes were so salty! I couldn't eat them. I didn't make a fuss and finished most of my plate. After that, the server never really came back to our table. Overall, it wasn't that great of an experience besides the atmosphere. It was pricey for what it was. We won't come back, unfortunately. read more

TL;DR: Mediocre apps and entrees. Superb desserts. Not worth the price. The decor and garden are nice, the food however leaves much to be desired. Truffle fries: Flavor is on point with a piece of truffle shaving. Fried to perfection. 4/5 Cary's Mac and Cheese: Pasta was a bit overcooked, and didnt really have much taste. It had several truffle shavings on top, but did nothing to enhance the flavor. 2/5 Flatiron: Cooked well, but had an awkward taste. A bit overseasoned too. 1/5 Black Garlic Risotto: WAY too salty and didnt taste good. 0/5 Blue Crab Burger: Nice texture and had some tartness to it that complimented the crab cake. BRIX B.L.A.T (plus a burger patty for $8): Best thing by far (customized by me, just sayin'). Bacon was thick and sweet and had a nice crunch, but wasn't brittle--texture was just right. Burger was cooked medium rare perfectly and had super good flavor. The focaccia soaked up a lot of the juice from the meat so it kept a lot of the flavor within the sandwich. But for $27, it wasn't quite worth the price. 4/5. Dessert time! Peach Mousse: Sweet granola bottom crust with some tartness coming from the mousse itself. Super tasty. 5/5 Banana Split: Had several toasted hazelnuts on top which were a bit savory which paired well with the bruleed split banana and ice creams. Another banger! 5/5 What threw me off the most was that the staff was using a push vacuum and was literally pushing it underneath my chair and hitting it. Really? I'm trying to make the most of my $30 burger and I don't need someone ruining the mood cleaning underneath my chair. Overall, you're paying Napa-like prices, but not really getting the best bang for your buck here and better off eating at any other fine establishment nearby *cough* Don Giovanni *cough*. read more

Used to be a fan.. but cannot recommend anymore? We've been to Brix many times... mostly a great meal and experience... I say mostly because on occasion it's been meh.. but the atmosphere and service usually make up for it.... Not this time however; as I guess we've always gone on a Sunday for brunch... This time we're here on a Saturday and I was telling my wife how I was Jonesing for a Benedict but there wasn't an egg dish on the Saturday morning (12noon) menu... Ok no problem, we ordered a fried chicken sandwich and a french dip. But first we asked for an off menu drink common during brunch a Ramos Fizz... The Ramos came out with lime instead of orange flower water... it was horrible, couldn't finish it after one sip... and nobody seemed to care or ask why I had hardly touched it. The sandwiches were kinda Meh too, though weren't bad... just really nothing special. As we got our bill, the manager stopped by to see if everything was ok. My wife said, it would have been nice to have an egg dish offering (the weekend and all) and he said, "we don't do that on Saturday, sorry" and walked away... This is the COVID-19 review of BRIX. We are so fortunate to live in California and enjoy outdoor dining in the winter. We had brunch today at Brix. I certainly miss the days when the Sunday brunch here was served buffet style, but the à la carte menu is also great. We started with the breakfast poutine and Brix Bloody Mary's. I wish we ordered two orders because it was delish. I also had the breakfast sandwich of the day. Today it was short rib topped with a nice sunny side egg on a Model bakery English muffin. Since we live in COVID times, we dined outdoors in the beautiful garden. They also have nice outdoor heaters to keep you warm in a cold day. I highly recommend making the trip while you still can! read more
