Just had a spectacular meal at Brigitte Bistro ... first time since change of ownership and vibe is so much more relaxed, friendly, and welcoming. The pasta with shrimp and cherry tomatoes, the salmon with leeks, and the loup de mer with olives were divine (as was the bread). Great service. Wonderful wine and cocktails. Can't wait to go back! My girlfriend and I have been meaning to try this restaurant since we noticed that they have opened. Since, ya know, "all the stuff that's been goin on," we just haven't gotten dressed up and done much proper dining. As it was long overdue, last night was the night and we wanted to try something different than our usual go-to spots in the area. I'm very glad we did. This cute little house in the village of Redhook serves fantastically creative, but authentically French cuisine. The whole menu looked amazing and had a proper wine list replete with French wines. We started with the foie gras mousse, and salmon tartare. The mousse was of perfect consistency with a uniquely smooth texture and had mild but wonderful taste. The tartare was very fresh, light and summery with an uplifting citrus presence. For the entrees we went with the special: a lightly crusted red snapper with mussels and tomato on a bed of fennel in a lobster reduction -- definitely a creative and delicious construction. Chef's Kiss! The service was attentive, warm and professional with an obvious knowledge of food and proper service. (I didn't know this could still be found these days) Thank you, Thomas! BOTTOM LINE: All in all: fine dining in a relaxed country atmosphere. A most welcomed (and needed) addition to the area. The decor is beautiful and elegant. But the food is the star. We split time between Manhattan and Red Hook and Brigitte Bistro out shines any French restaurant we've been to (excluding France). We had the escargot which was perfectly garlicky and buttery, decadent foie gras terrine with berry preserve(I'll be dreaming about it), delicious two different duck entrees (confit and breast). What a truly perfect evening at this wonderful Bistro ! I felt transported to the Left bank of Paris! It is a welcome addition to the Hudson River Valley The Risotto will mushrooms and peas was the best , freshest and served piping hot. The chicken with olives,gnocchi,and peppers was simply sublime. My friend let me have quite a few tastes... The salmon was prepared exactly as I requested and was absolutely delicious. Lovely space, good food, poor service. We had dinner last night, restaurant empty when we arrived yet we had a long wait for our drinks and a way too long wait for appetizers. A couple arrived and sat at the table next to us whereupon the server explained in detail the specials. Specials?? No one told us of any specials, thereby limiting our entree choices to 5! The food was much better since our last visit in December and we had heard the ownership changed. The salad with beets was a generous serving and the wait staff divided it; the branzino quite good according to my dining partner; my short ribs were good, the sauce excellent and vegetables, the meat could have been more tender, however. The bread we thought with all its "stuff" had a strange taste; bring back more normal fresh bread, please. We might have ordered dessert but the three choices sounded so so. My husband and I love French food. We ate our way through Paris and talk about food all the time. We loved, loved, loved this restaurant! The decor is happy and bright with a glass front window, a cute porch, nice bar, festive but not overly fancy. The wait staff was friendly, professional, not oppressive. We had escargot, caesar salad, the duck and the chicken. They were all great. The chicken was hands down, the best chicken we have ever had. And the chocolate mousse and decaf were equally perfect. We were so torn on what to get (really wanted 4 apps and 3 mains off the menu, which appears to be seasonal). Given the two of us couldn't eat that much, we settled for two apps and two mains, which we shared everything, with no complaints at all. After reading all the reviews on this site we decided to go to Brigitte Bistro. It was quite an experience. The staff was very friendly but differently not well trained. After giving our cocktail order, the waitress returned to take our appetizer and entree order. It was not busy when we arrived. The bartender must have been new and inexperienced. It took 20 minutes to get our cocktails and one person didn't get one because the bartender didn't know what a Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry was!! The appetizer arrived before our cocktails. The entrees were served before the appetizer dishes were removed and had to be taken back until the table was cleared of dirty dishes. One entree had to be sent back because it was cold. I didn't send mine back even though it was lukewarm. My entree was the duck a l'orange very disappointing. However, the others did say their entrees were good. Maybe we hit this restaurant on an off night but when you charge these kinds of prices you can't have an off night. Sorry to say I will not recommend this restaurant and certainly don't plan on returning. read more

I loved this space when it was Mercato, so many family birthday dinners with kids now off in the world - that happy go lucky pre Covid era! So I really wanted to enjoy Brigitte and it didn't disappoint! I never have good experiences eating out on major holidays so we have Valentines dinner in January! I like the redesign the BB art, the chandeliers and the music. Good start. Nice looking wine list at a good for me good for them mark up and a nice bottle of champagne. It's spending money where you could save that wins me over so good bread and butter and nice cutlery make a difference. I had a very nice foie gras followed by duck and Madame had Salmon and mussels. All Bistro staples and first rate. We shared a delicious chocolate mousse and the check was a bargain. Service was excellent and we shall return soon read more

Everything about this experience made me so happy that Red Hook has a new restaurant full of casual elegance and impeccably rendered classic French and new French dishes. First: the wine list was varied and obviously curated with love. The white wines were all quite distinct. The service was extremely friendly - like neighbor to neighbor - yet great care was taken in a non oppressive way to make sure we liked what we were drinking (or they would have taken it back immediately). Next: the food. I won't bother you with the specifics of what we ordered but it was all just, well delightful. Fun, interesting, complex flavors yet prepared in a classic manner. Go there.
