The atmosphere was very loud and it was hard to even give your order. We had the Ahi and New York steak. The Ahi was excellent after I asked for a side if sauce. Passed through Placerville for work a few weeks ago and stopped by for a quick dinner on a weeknight. Probably the most popular spot in downtown Placerville that evening - understandably so, the food is top notch. I ordered a Figaro burger, subbing in a beyond meat patty, and it was mouthwatering. Highly recommend the burger, despite the odd-sounding combo. The fries were great. The service was great and the company at the bar was friendly. An all around great atmosphere. We used to come here to dine more often, but the last time we came for dinner we felt the quality of the food had gone downhill. I ordered a steak that was on the tough side even though I had ordered it medium rare. The waiter did nothing to remedy this problem. For the price, we will go some where else from now on. read more

The menu had a good selection of food and had some good vegetarian choices (I am not vegetarian). Daughter wanted a burger and got the El Paso but without the jalapeños. I ordered the Santa Fe turkey sandwich. Her burger was so good, she was bouncing in her seat. My sandwich was very tasty. Daughter loved the fries. She definitely wants to go back. Fantastic food, great quality and good variety. The servers are always very kind and responsive. They have great beer selection and a pretty good happy hour. Their salads and burgers are usually our go to items but we've had a few steaks there as well that were amazing. The best thing on their menu is their french frys. Live locally and have been here many times, but tonight was very disappointing. Up sides: bar (assuming your tastes run to West Coast and not New York, which is to be expected since it's Cali), beer tap selection, service. Down side: quality of the food. Fish and chips used to be fresh, flakey and batter fried and was the best item on the menu. Now, the chips are heavily salted and the fish is clearly out of a bag. So I'd been wanting to try this place out and when I finally got the opportunity I had already eaten...major bummer right? No, not really. My date being the smart, beautiful woman that she is (My MOM!) suggested we get some drinks and try out the appetizers....I agreed. We scored free 2 hour parking in the lot right across the street so we were off to a good start. The place was buzzing with people so we did have a brief wait which I expect at any decent restaurant at 7 on Saturday night. We got a table near the window that gave me a perfect view for people watching both in & outside the restaurant. I check out the cool art, smiling patrons, friendly staff, shiny happy people all around, so far so good. Alright on to the food...well drinks actually, first things first. We ordered up some of the local ELDo County wines I went with the Pinot Noir, she had the Riesling, we both liked. As planned we ordered a sampling of the appetizers, the 3 sauce ravioli, the sweet potato planks, and flatbread pizza. Food arrives promptly and we dig in. Despite the fact we had both eaten just an hour previous we left that table leaving nothing but a wake of picked-clean plates. That's a good thing. Final tab for glasses of wine and 3 apps? Just under $40....Rachel Ray would be proud. I like Bricks. If you're looking for 3 Michelin starred dining, you won't find it here. What you will find is yummy food(yep, I'm going with yummy), an original menu and a trendy-casual, genuinely friendly atmosphere-I feel like Brick's has naturally the kind of atmosphere that Chili's, E-Bar and the like pay millions of dollars to try and fake. I wanted to check this place out for my birthday dinner this year since it seems like we've tried everything in the area already without much to get excited about. Initially my parents both questioned my choice of Brick's - indicating to me that they must have already dined there and deemed it not good enough to return to. Unfortunately there are no reservations, only first come first serve, so we decided to arrive after 7:30pm. The dining room is somewhat casual on a Saturday night, with many families and children crowding the room. For a table for four we were asked to wait about 15 minutes which allowed some time to enjoy a round at the bar before being seated (very promptly, as it turned out). The bartender made my mom's lemon drop to her specifications, and personally I thought the atmosphere in the bar was preferable to the dining room. There is no seated waiting area, so patrons either wait outside or awkwardly mill about in front of the door (next to our table). I was initially unimpressed with the menu selections... everything is on the safe, somewhat generic side, so I didn't have high hopes that I'd be especially impressed with the dishes. I asked the waitress for her opinion on the shrimp victor or New York steak. She said the shrimp victor was "very good" but ultimately I asked her to surprise me! For appetizers we ordered the Brussels sprouts and calamari. The Brussels sprouts were especially well prepared and probably the plate that I enjoyed most. Our waitress placed our dinner orders right away but thoughtfully timed everything so that we'd had adequate time to enjoy our appetizers and drinks without being rushed into the next course. She also promptly asked if we wanted another round before our glasses were entirely empty, which I really appreciated (I hate an having empty glass)! My husband had the lobster cavatappi (which was a huge portion) dad ordered one of the meat dishes and mom got the cobb salad. My meal was the steak. I felt that my food was cooked pretty well but everything tasted bland (though to be fair, I sometimes have a tendency to over-season). The steak didn't have any noticeable seasoning on it, not even salt, though it was served with caramelized onions on top. The vegetable medley tasted like plain steamed vegetables without a hint of salt, pepper or butter. All the veggies seemed to have been cooked together, so while the zucchini was perfect, the green beans and bell peppers were a little too crunchy still (and the broccoli looked like it was from last week). The potatoes au gratin were delicious and the only thing that seemed to have any salt in it. Everyone was satisfied with their orders but no one was able to finish everything on the plate. Overall I was satisfied with the experience, but would not return to try anything else on the menu. Staff gets an A+. Chef gets a C. Location gets a B - it would have felt more upscale if people waited in the bar area instead of looming over me as I ate. read more

I love Bricks for a casual lunch. The menu is nicely varied with several creative burger and sandwich choices. The fried green tomato sandwich is out of this world. My favorite though, is the Figaro burger with fig jam and goat cheese. I'm pretty sure the name is a punny reference to the jam, but it might actually be because the burger is so good people start singing an aria. (It could happen) The fries are really great, generously cut, but still crispy and and light inside. Do yourselves a favor and spring for the sweet potato planks. The name doesn't lie and the house made ranch that comes with it is so yummy. (Confession: I don't even like ranch.) Their beer selection is stellar. The service has always been top notch when I've been there. The waiters are friendly and are conversant with the menu and what's on tap, so ask for recommendations! One warning: this is a popular Hangtown joint. Be prepared for a wait if you want to eat during peak hours. read more

Ok, i have to disagree with the nasty review by kathleen W and marilyn A... Bricks has just been open over a couple weeks now and is doing just fine. Everyone knows that when a restaurant first opens it takes about a month to work out all the kinks. I have been twice and the staff has been really nice. They have been busy everyday they have been open and are just getting their groove. Instead of talking trash maybe give them a chance to right what you feel has been wrong. Why would a person mention that the manager is cold and rude(seems like she has a vendetta for her) and then to mention another restaurant in town is better...? pretty rude..! read more

Brought our 3 children. Thought it was a nice family place as we noticed two small infants in the booths next to us. Then a Very drunk patron in the adjoining bar became ver loud and unruly. My kids were only nervous at this point, so we waited for management to difuse the situation. Never happened. Bar fight ensued complete with swearing and fist fight. Staff hid behind a wall. Another patron finally threw the drunk guy out. My kids were traumatized. Never tasted the food...we left. All of this unfolded over about 40 min. So I guess I can say slow service? We never saw a manager. Just the young girls serving as hostess and waitress. Probably wont go back. Bring your boxing gloves :). read more

Based on the reviews here, I had high hopes for Bricks and convinced my husband to try it out. As a bar this place is rather good. We had pretty decent Bloody Mary's and they have an extensive selection of beers on tap. If you are drinking and need a snack on the side, may I suggest the sweet potato planks. An excellent choice. The accolades end there however, as the rest of the food was at best mediocre, at worst gross. I was in the mood for a filet minion as I hadn't had one in a while and so I ordered one in spite of the $26 price tag. Big mistake! This was possibly the worst quality of meat I've ever had that was called filet minion. I believe this was that meat they glue together and form into a shape made to resemble a steak. It was really that low quality and it was disgusting. It came with veggies which were just ok. My husband ordered the fish and chips which he said was average/ nothing special as he shrugged his shoulders when I asked him how it was. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer which lets just say I've had better elsewhere. Overall, I've got to say I was surprised by the amount of stars given in some of these reviews. The only thing I can fathom is that this is Placerville and the standards are a bit lower here maybe. I agree with the other reviewer who said if this place were in downtown Sac it wouldn't even get 2 stars. Well, I can't say I won't step in this joint for a beer if I'm nearby but honestly, I won't try their food again other than the planks. I have to say, this is quite the new diamond in the rough for Placerville Dining! My husband and I noticed how busy this new place was when we were walking down Main St. one night and decided we needed to try it out. If sheer numbers of patrons was the only deciding factor for how great a place was, this place definitely takes the cake! We've never eaten here when it wasn't full! But I can honestly say it was worth the short wait we had! (Tip: You can call ahead and ask to be put on the list for when you arrive - love!) I've had both the classic burger and the Asian Chicken Salad and both were phenomenal! I also tried my husband's Rib Eye Steak and found it very flavorful w/o being overly fatty (my biggest pet peeve with that cut of steak). We also tried the Brick's Chocolate Cake on a whim and found it to be so rich and decadent, it was quite amazing! But be forewarned, this is not a cake to be eaten alone! And you will definitely want to consider asking for a glass of milk it's that rich! :) But my husband thought it was the best chocolate cake he's ever had. All in all, a wonderful addition to downtown Placerville. Great atmosphere, great service, great wine selection, and amazing food! Had lunch with a friend here recently. They really did a nice job with the remodel! There is a nice big bar too! I had the Brick Burger, my friend the French Dip - and a couple of sodas - the tab was a little over $30! The food was good (not amazing), the ambiance nice, the service attentive, but overall that seemed a bit pricey to both of us. I'm not sure we'll be back for lunch, but I will give them a try for dinner soon. read more

Love the ambiance - the artwork of Main Street is so beautiful - the antithesis of Placerville's Kincaid and edgy/artistic. We ordered the fried ravioli and sweet potato planks - best part of the meal!! My husband wanted to lick the plates!! :) For dinner I had the pasta primavera - it was really good. Fresh veggies were mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and roasted red & yellow bell peppers. My husband had the Malibu Chicken sandwich - delicious. It had a chipotle BBQ sauce and came with perfectly cooked fries. My sister had the BLAT (bacon lettuce avocado tomato) sandwich and my brother-in-law had a burger. Same deal - all delicious. We topped the meal sharing a piece of chocolate cake - omg it was amazing. So rich it was almost fudgelike. My husband made sure the plate had nothing left on it - so good. The kids were happy and it was a loud restaurant so it was perfect for them. They get kudos for having the Giants game on too! ;) Highly recommend!!! read more

If this place had been open for longer than a couple weeks, I would be tempted to give 2 stars, but I'm assuming that they're still working out the kinks. Some things were good, and some weren't -- it has potential. I went at 6pm (early for me) on a Thursday, and it was packed; we actually had to wait for a table. The hostess told us it would be 20 minutes, so we sat at the bar and ordered drinks, and 3 minutes later, the hostess told us a table was ready. Cool. The drinks made it over from the bar (despite no real communication between the different staff members). I liked their thoughtfully chosen selection of delicious local wines. The menu has a lot of variety -- to the point of seeming a little scattered. Everything from gourmet sandwiches and burgers, to fish, pork chops, steaks, and the occasional random thing like lumpia. Honestly, I prefer a restuarant to have a smaller selection of really fantastically prepared dishes, rather than a large selection of okay stuff. That's just me. I selected the Normandy Chops (pork chops in mustard sauce), and my friend ordered fish & chips. We both ordered side salads. The salads were fresh and tasty, although the dressings could have been right out of a bottle. My friend's panko-breaded fish was good, and cooked nicely. My pork chops, which were *smothered* in sauce, were decent. I had 2 bites that were VERY salty, as if someone had spilled some salt, and then the rest of it was fine. The veggies (some very basic/sad little pieces of broccoli and sliced carrots) were cooked well -- not too done. But the potatoes. Hmmm, how do I describe them? They were supposed to be mashed, but someone had beaten the hell out of them, and overcooked or oversoaked them, because they had the consistency and taste of glue. Inedible, really, even with the yummy mustard sauce on them. What a shame, although maybe for the best since I'm supposed to be going low-carb right now. The service was very friendly, and everything came in a timely fashion, despite the place being full. The interior is attractive, with cool vivid blown-up photos of downtown on the walls, brick walls, open layout, etc. One other note: this place, when full, is LOUD, so don't expect a quiet, intimate conversation. I didn't mind, but it's good to know before you go. So, long story short: I will give this place another shot in a little while, once they've had the chance to work out the details. read more

My parents suggested we eat here as they had liked it the first time they went. I was impressed they did half pound burgers. It's way more than I can eat, but yay for leftovers. I can't understand the people that keep coming here... The cooks are poor or under trained or both. The ability to cook fries that are not dirty brown (old grease) and sodden and limp is a basic skill they do not possess. When a sandwich includes cheese; it should be a piece greater than a 3 inch square;-- and the avocado should be bigger than frito. Overall - I just felt like there must be a child or a rookie cooking.. BOTH times I went there. Sadly disappointing overall. After visiting Apple Hill, for the first time, we stopped to visit Placerville, also for the first time. We stopped in to the Hardware store where they recommended GOOD EATS at the BRICK'S. It takes a local to know!!! Stacy H was a FABULOUS server. Warm, cheerful, efficient and all around fun. We enjoyed great food and an a amazing Macadamia Stout from the fine collection at the bar.
