If you are looking for local beers, this is the place to go. I wouldn't say they have a 'large selection', but better than your average restaurant. Our server was really good. Overall, it was meh... I had a soup and tuna appetizer. The tuna wasn't great quality... I'm guessing if that fish was caught on Tuna Wars that it wouldn't have landed more than $6/lb (in other words, it was tough and chewy). I got really excited when I got there (around 5 on a Tuesday), when I saw the special on the board when I walked in. It was a surf and turf type mac n cheese, but when I ordered it they said they didn't have a special tonight because there were too many parties. Great feel to this place! walked in and was seated immediately. Malbec and a Bloody Mary ordered! Had the seared ahi for an appetizer and split he Salmon. It should have been a sign on a Saturday night that the restaurant wasn't fully booked out.. and if not for the prom crowd would be over half empty. The restaurant looks beautiful, but the food doesn't match the overall look to the place. If they got the menu fixed they could have a full restaurant every night. Calamari- chewy/rubbery, thick coating, no flavor to the coating or calamari itself, not even salt. Artichoke and crab dip- shouldn't be allowed to say there's even crab in this.. had no flavor until we asked for a salt shaker for the table and then you had flavor. The pita bread was the best thing of the whole night. Scallops had 0 sear on them, and the seasoning was so overbearing of an herby peppery flavor. I've never not eaten a full order of scallops and I barely ate two out of the 4-5 on the plate.. The crab legs were decent thankfully. My date's lamb was medium well to well, the sauce made up for some of the moisture they cooked out of a requested medium rare lamb. Items don't look like the nice photos you see.. just either no flavor or absolutely covered in too much to the point it's inedible. My wife and I visited Bricks & Barrels for the first time yesterday. She got the fried green tomato & steak appetizer as meal, and I got the surf & turf [comes with shrimp and a filet]. She also got a side of risotto. Overall, the experience was very good. We both loved our steak - cooked medium and tasted delicious. Her side of risotto needed more seasoning and my sides of green beans and mashed potato was ok, not great. For dessert we shared the creme brûlée topped with blueberries and a sliced strawberry - it was very good. The waiter was attentive, but not overbearing. my mother and i wanted to have a little girls night so we decided to come to bricks&barrels for the first time. so, let's start with what we liked the truffle tots were good really crispy. the drinks from the bartender were good. now for the bad. we waited 10 minutes for our server (Lauren) to come over (we saw her a total of 5 times during our visit) we got the calamari appetizer and it was like chewing on a rubber band it took me leaning over to grab Lauren's attention as she was walking by to tell her it was too overcooked and we didn't like it and to ask for another drink. She didn't ask what was wrong with it or offer it to be remade, simply took the dish without a single word. A group of us went to Bricks & Barrels for dinner before a show at the Clay Center. Service was great. Food was good overall. Only minor issue was the chicken in my Cajun chicken pasta left a lot to be desired. It was kind of tough, but I chose to overlook that as the rest of the dish was very good, still kind of disappointing for a $30 pasta dish. Friends ordered the seafood Alfredo and the pimento burger. Each reported them being good. The hiccup for the evening was when arrived. Upon entering the building my friend fell coming across the threshold. There is a low spot just as you enter under the rug and her shoe caught it. Not one person offered to help her, nor inquire if she was ok. The manager was sitting at the bar with another gentleman and we even overheard him remark to the mgr something about getting that fixed. The group behind us also told others to watch their step. The host didn't do anything either, just stood there; granted he was on the phone, but after waiting for him to finish and greet us he still didn't mention anything. Bricks & Barrels was recommended by a co-worker as a go to place for great food in Charleston, WV. This place has sooo much potential but fell a little short for me. It's the type of restaurant I would probably frequent in a small town to put in rotation for variety but not the type I would drive 2 hrs to again. The ambience is nice. The servers not particularly friendly but not not friendly either. We started with non alcoholic mojitos. These were decent but not the best I've had. For appetizers we had the caprese flat bread. The flavors were pretty good. I would probably order it again. The caprese salad was very disappointing- not a single piece of basil. Lettuce is not a good sub- totally lacked flavor. The fired green tomato napoleon- at first we thought the fried part was really soggy but then realized it was actually the pimento- the flavors were actually good with this but I was not a fan of the consistency. For entrees my husband had the Seared tuna. He enjoyed it. I had the garlic and rosemary lamb. I really liked it. I have never had lamb made like this. It reminded me of a fried pork chop which was strange but it actually worked. Overall it was pretty good but definitely room for improvement. read more

Went with my daughter a while ago, absolutely amazing, best restaurant I've been to in Charleston. I got the steak with fries and mac and cheese, the steak was the best steak I've ever had, the fries were so good and crispy, and the mac and cheese had a really nice sort of bread crumb thing on top that was great. I wanted to get desert so bad but I was so full, there was no way. Our server was Cody, and he was amazing. He was so nice, and kept checking in on us while also balancing giving us our space so we could talk and catch up. This place looks AMAZING too, we got to sit in one of the barrel seats, and it's like a small little room that's separated from everyone else so it's like a little private dining experience that you don't have to pay any extra for. Very disappointed in our visit here, we were celebrating college graduation. The food is very over priced and the staff are extremely rude and unatentive but, when you add gratuity to a check automatically it's not surprising. Our waitress was awful, we had to repeat everything, she would rudely say she has to take the order by who was on the check regardless of who was ready to order, she snapped at us when we had to remind her she had forgotten things. The seared tuna was paper thin and poor cooked, the ravioli was gummy, lamb was raw and when they "fixed it" it was chard and over cooked, the crabcakes were under seasoned, the creme brulee was ice cold and extremely thin so they clearly did not freshly brulee it and a single cup of coffee was $4, was cold, burnt tasting, and served the cream in a broken dish. My husband and I ate here Sunday, August 13, 2023. I ordered the Cajun pasta with chicken, my husband ordered the seafood fettuccine, and we had the bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer. The bacon wrapped shrimp was pretty good, but. could have used more of the drizzle they put on it. I have had Cajun chicken chicken pasta several times at various locations. This was so spicy I was only able to eat about 1/2 of it. Three or 4 times the waitress came to the table and asked how things were, and each time I told her the dish was way too spicy. Each time her response was "well, I'll tell the chef to go easier on the spices the next time", "I'll tell the chef so the next person's won't be so spicy", I'm sorry, is there anything else I can get for you all?". I realize I could have sent it back, but it was getting late, and several of the servers were already starting to sweep/clean up. I overheard 2 different tables talking with their servers about some issue with their meal. A man whom I assume `was the manager came and spoke with them. No one came to our table, even tho 3 times I had told the waitress my dish was too spicy. I had to ask for a refill of ice tea. Each time the waitress would speak to me, she called me "honey" which I personally think is inappropriate. I expected a bit more jalapeño in the bacon wrapped shrimp. The bisque is the standout if I had to pick one. Also, they have the first Randall beer infuser in the area, making for some nice, unique beer experiences. I've always found the staff to be friendly and efficient.
