Well, sort of the only option in what appears to be a bit of a rough area. We didn't have the energy to make it out to where the other food options all appeared to cluster. Service was nice, but a little slow. Burger and fries were pretty solid. Caesar salad was ok. Mixed drink wasn't great. Beer is the safe option. All in all this Marriott is a bit dated; is sort of one of those options of last resort if you're here for work or just passing through for the night, as we were. read more

This restaurant is in the lobby of the Marriott. We were stopping in West Virginia and staying at the hotel and decided to eat in. The seating options were limited for standard tables verses lounge seating and bar tops; however, the staff was friendly and prompt in helping us. My rating isn't low due to the food being bad, it was not bad by any means. I just cannot give this place a 4 based on restaurants I typically enjoy. The food was hot when delivered, everything was cooked well, and everything was edible. To be specific; the salad had too much dressing, the quesadilla lacked a sauce or seasoning, and the chips and salsa did not taste fresh. I will say the buffalo wings were good and the skin was crispy. Overall a decent place and convenient. read more

Several menu items were not available. Shrimp and grits ~ Cajun shrimp flavor was good, but no plate prided under bowl to discard shrimp tails. Corn relish was okay, but grits was the consistency of soup. Quinoa chicken avocado salad was mostly rice, not quinoa. Chicken had no seasoning or flavor. Chipotle dressing was not good. read more

I came in with modest expectations and they were massively exceeded. Highlights (in order) 1. Pork chop. This is a really lovely dish. Mustard gravy on top, with baby potatoes and broccolini on the side. I should have taken a photo but it was gone too fast. 2. Arugula salad. Nice and simple/light: 3. Service. One barman handling bar and tables but didn't miss a beat. 4. Makers mark Manhattan. Only so-so bits 1. Old fashioned (too sweet) 2. John was the bartender and he was great... he gets most of the stars in this review. It's a hotel bar, so nothing fantastic. The menu is small, which was my biggest complaint. However, I had the shrimp appetizer and it was really good. My second biggest complaint was the temperature. It was freezing cold! I had read a TripAdvisor review that said the same thing (bar and the hotel lobby), so I'm guessing this wasn't a one off event. It was mid afternoon and there was not a lot of people coming in or out, so it shouldn't have been that cold. I ate and left... too cold to sit around for another drink. read more

The service was slow and our drinks tasted awful. Others who had gotten margheritas, also complaned about the lack of alcohol in them. My bloody mary was the worst one I've ever gotten and it tasted like it had no alcohol at all. The reason for the two stars is because the Bibb salad was excellent. Tried to order a beer but was told 5 minutes after ordering it that the tap was empty. It was a Wednesday night at 7pm, nothing should've been empty. read more

Stayed at the hotel where this restaurant is located, so this was an obvious choice after a long day on the road. Dinner is served until 11pm. I ordered the new york strip steak, caesar salad, and chicken pot pie. The service was good and the food was definitely above average for a hotel restaurant. Most of the other eateries in town close very early, so tI recommend this place if you get into town late. read more

In town for two days, hoping to delve into a premium meal at Brick Salt. Ordered the rack of lamb (well-done) but it came out perfectly under-cooked for a cannibal. The waitress, a wonderful and attentive human being, acknowledged her error, and took the initiative to bring the manager over to the table for a replacement meal or whatever. Opted out of a do-over or replacement meal. Stomach too upset. As for that bar drink, it tasted like a Kool-Aid Jammers, and thus, was completely overpriced. Love Charleston! read more

Fun, kinda kitschy looking decor with lots of different styles of seating including a barstool/table seating, regular tables & chairs & sofa seating for lounging. The chicken Caesar salad is huge & delicious! It had just the right amount of dressing with every bite! Half of my friend's bacon burger had to be taken home because it was a very big portion. Welp it's a bar in a lobby. With a menu only barely better than the room service menu, I was whole-heartedly not impressed. After a long drive I was hoping for a pick me up at what is probably one of the nicer hotels in the area. Despite being a beautiful space, the food, service and temperature left me wishing I had braced the rain to explore a different restaurant. The Tuscan chicken soup was ok, served piping hot, but the only real flavor I got was pepper. The spinach artichoke dip had a hardened layer on top as though it was sitting under a heat lamp for a while before being served, however I will say the peppers added a nice kick and this appetizer still tasted great. The chocolate martini was delicious, but the experiences was sullied when the waitress spilled it on me and the table upon serving. She apologized and then blamed the bar for over-filling it. Then when I was almost done she grabbed the glass and offered me another... but I wasn't done with the first one yet! read more

We were concerned after reviews, but hungry so we walked downstairs for dinner. We were greeted by Betty as we walked up and seated immediately. My husband and I asked for a beer sample of the local brew and ordered it. We ordered the chicken fingers from the kids menu for our four year old with fries and fresh vegetables. We should have asked what was in the fresh veg because it came out grilled squash, zucchini, onions & peppers. While it was tasty, he didn't eat it. The portions on his plate was generous. Our 8 year old ordered the Chicken Pot Pie from the main menu. It came out piping hot in the cast iron skillet. Once it cooled, it was tasty. Large chunks of chicken, a light gravy and plenty of peas & carrots and seasoned well. The biscuit topping was perfectly crispy, buttery & browned. We ordered the hummus appetizer and it was really good with plenty of warm pita triangles. It also came with a serving of crisp celery & carrot sticks. I had the chicken sandwich with fries and my husband had the bacon cheddar burger. The chicken sandwich needed some salt & pepper, but was cooked just right- juicy, not dried out! I don't often see a chicken sandwich on the menu with roasted red peppers, spinach, provolone & pesto. My husband enjoyed his burger. Those fries, though. Yum! The fries are huge and have a delicious crispy coating. The portions were big and our meals were filling. I really wanted dessert, but just didn't have the appetite after dinner. I am not a native of Charleston, (I am passing through and business) so I'm going to grade this restaurant on a curve. If this restaurant was in another place, like Pittsburgh or Chicago, it would be two stars. But in Charleston, and given the other options in the downtown area, I'll give it a three. I ordered one of the "premium" items on the menu, the 10 ounce New York strip. It was nothing more than average. In fact, I have had steaks at chain steak houses that were far superior. The mashed potatoes (supposedly with garlic) were fair. Not horrible. Just fair. The service was exceptionally slow, (but super polite) - but super slow, particularly considering there were only a few other tables with people at them. The lighting was way too bright. I felt like I was constantly being reminded that I was in an extension of the hotel lobby. Simply dimming the lights by 20 or 30% and raising the music to something relaxing and conducive to socializing would've gone a long way... (To be honest, I don't remember what music was playing, but it really didn't matter because the lights were way too bright). I don't mean to be cynical, it's just that this is not up to the normal "status" that Marriott has set for the quality of restaurants that are attached to their hotels across the country. I wasn't even staying at the Marriott. I was staying at the Embassy suites and I walked over to this restaurant, (which is right next-door to the Embassy suites). But in my travels, I have discovered that Marriotts very often have exceptional restaurants that are attached to them. Even if the owners of the restaurants in the hotels are completely separate. There are several dining options that are within walking distance of the Marriott and the Embassy Suites that are significantly superior to this place in my opinion, based on my one trip to this restaurant. Unfortunately, this place isn't going to get a second chance for me the next time I am back in town. read more

I travel frequently to Charleston Wv and stay at the Charleston Town Place Marriott because they have the most unique chefs and servers in town. From the early breakfast with a made to order omelet by Rose, or lunch served by the fabulous barkeep Tim - try the Ruben or grilled chicken with artichoke pesto, to a delectable chef prepared dinner of impressive clam chowder ~a filet and some of Phil's home churned bourbon with bacon ice cream for dessert to end the work day, you will be thrilled with your service and selections! Staying at the hotel and had a conference call and it was pouring rain so couldn't go out. So I took a chance. Hotel food and all you understand. My classic gin martini was acceptable. A personal beef is that they had no cocktail onions which I prefer with gin. But that's just me. For a snack I ordered the chicken pot pie with a promise of a reasonable amount of vegetables and chicken. So you see the image. The bisket on top was crunchy and when broken up added body that the vegetables and chicken did not provide. From what I could tell the vegetables were peas and some carrot with maybe celery or onion. The diced chicken was probably initially steamed when grilled would have added some needed flavor. The gravy was a bit heavy. I'd have appreciated some potato in the mix. Just to see I ordered the cheesecake dessert. Billed as ricotta cheesecake which I think it was. Not sweet. Actually rather light. A good finish to the meal. Passable for a small meal in a Marriott. Solid 3 star experience. read more

As I sit here waiting on my order, I wonder why this town seems to have a shortage of original restaurants. The majority of the eating establishment within walking distance of the hotels are either franchises or hotel restaurant, which in my experience are rarely any good and pricey. I got my drink rather quickly but had to let the bartender know I was ready when she was after waiting a good 10 minutes. She still did not seem too interested in my hungry urge to order. House Salad and Sandwich was hotel expensive (what usually 20% over a local restaurant would charge?) and standard fare. House Salad was fresh mixed greens with string beans. Stingy on the dressing but I asked for more and they graciously provided. Unfortunately, a long wait for Bleu Cheese! Surprisingly, my Chicken Sandwich was good but disappointingly I wasn't told about the specials! Mahi mahi fish tacos would have been wonderful. Someone sitting next to me has them and they smelled delicious. My overall assessment? This place is better than expected and probably as good as it gets for now in this town. read more

I had the spinach dip and a glass of Le Creme Pinot noir. The dip was creamy but didn't have a lot of spinach. I did like the pretzel chips. I then ordered the apple cobbler. It was very light and had a lot of apples. It's a great spot for a quick bite before dinner. I know Marriott restaurants are not a Ruth Chris but I do know I'll have friendly service and decent fare. Great food and great service. Beautiful hotel and couldn't have had a more comfortable stay. The crab poppers are to die for and really great chili as well. The one negative comment about this was catching our waitress eating off of plates that she took off of tables. Very disturbing to see for such an expensive hotel. read more
