My husband and I came here for my birthday and everything we ordered off the menu was delicious and amazing. We ordered the Caesar salad, the French onion soup, we each got a filet mignon, and the warm chocolate cake. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and all of the food tasted amazing. The ambiance was great as well. It was not crowded and it was quiet, but you could still talk. The waiter was great as well, he was knowledgeable about the menu and the food, and very attentive. I would recommend this spot to anyone, and especially for a special occasion. It was pricy, but for the meal and the experience it makes sense. read more

This place was a good find for an overnight stay in Charleston. We started the meal with oysters Rockefeller, shrimp scampi, stuffed mushrooms and an onion soup. I only had the oysters and mushrooms because my kids devoured the shrimp. For dinner the I had the goat cheese salad and split the rack of lamb. Others at the table had steak and scallops. For sides we got the artichokes, mac n cheese, and green beans. The favorites at the table were the onion soup, rack of lamb and the artichokes. We held a 60th Anniversary surprise dinner at Laury's last night. The staff was very accommodating and very gracious to my parents and family. The food was delicious, timely and presented beautifully. We have never been to Laury's before, however we won't hesitant to return either. I'm from FL and travel a lot. Laury's is a beautiful and historic place with a knowledgeable and friendly staff surfing delicious food. My wife and I had different steak dishes while others had a variety including salmon, sea bass, lamb, chicken and seafood pasta. Pretty hard to go wrong in my opinion. @Charleston area diners, you definitely have a unique space and invested business to match. Overall a great food experience and a good place to spend a wedding anniversary. Food: Table Caesar salad for apps. Yummy. Rack of lamb for my dinner and it had great flavor but a lot of work to deconstruct from the bone. I tried my wife's fillet and it was tender and well seasoned. Service: we were second to arrive after opening with a 5:00 on the dot reservation, and fifth group to be seated so not sure what the decision tree looks like there. Our waitress was helpful, kind, and prompt, but I kind of felt she was feeling some pressure to finish things up with us so she could seat the next table (I get it! But also hoped for better at a restaurant like this). Ambiance is very classy but also, I felt like it was speaking to an older crowd. As far as ambiance goes, this is one of the nicest restaurants in Charleston. The architecture and treatments are done really well. The setting makes for a very quiet and intimate dining experience. As for the food, it's a very old menu, by that I mean they've probably been serving these entrees across America since TV was invented. The salads are amazing and creative, I had the fried goat cheese salad and it was sublime! Wife had the standard wedge, no complaints. For our entrees I had the shrimp, scallop and crab Diablo. It was OKAY. It definitely does NOT live up to the name. I'm a heat seeker. If you say Diablo you better deliver! If you want heat, or even spicy flavor for that matter, you will be highly disappointed, ketchup has more heat than this "diablo". That being said, the pasta was the hottest I've ever been served, steaming hot! The seafood was cooked to perfection. Overall, no flavor other than the mild flavors of the seafood. My wife had the glazed salmon and shrimp. Again, doesn't live up to expectations. If you read "glazed" you probably expect the cooked to be finished with a glaze that thickens up and maybe has some slight caramelization. This "glaze" was just a bland sauce drizzled over the food. Both of our entrees were bland, no flavor. Everyone wanted salt, but didn't want to ask. Chefs are artists and this chef creates pretty plates, they just lack flavor. Again, the menu is probably the same as it was in 1979. They need a reboot! If you're a James Beard nominee, I expect a menu that reflects creativity, not my grandma's menu. read more

I travel to Charleston quite a bit for work and I typically always stay at the same hotel and eat at the same 2-3 restaurants. I've gotten bored of the routine so switched it up this time, and tried Laury's due to my boyfriend's recommendation (which was based on google and Yelp). I get nervous trying places like this because I show up with my backpack and computer to work on presentations for the next day, etc, and worry everyone will look at me and act like I don't belong. This is 100% not the case with Laury's. The bartender, Carrie, greeted me warmly when I walked in and even came by my table later to see how I liked everything. The hostess was incredibly friendly and sweet. My server, Monica, was great too! I had a few glasses of wine, both very good. I had the petite filet which was incredible and the table side bananas foster, though quite the production, was amazing! I'm absolutely coming back the next time I come here for work, and will bring friends. I was so impressed with the service and food. So glad I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried this. When we want a beautiful atmosphere and great food with terrific service starting with hostess Stacey and our fav long time server and friend Betty - we go here!!! We relax and let Laurys do the rest. Table side Caesar, Ribeye, filet with Au Poivre sauce, the Duck, and yummy yum mashed potatoes are all our go to's. They actually get the steak temp right consistently too which is top notch. The owner Fazi checks in to make sure all is well and we appreciate that too. My wife and I travel the states trying restaurants from coast to coast. We are obsessed with food of any kind. This was probably the best food I have ever had in my mouth. I had the Beef Oscar and my wife, the Lobster. Her only gripe was that she wished it was served with risotto instead of the macaroni, but regardless she made sensual noises with every bite of it. Mine was prepared perfectly, and our server was right when she said I wouldn't need a steak knife to cut it. Hell, I barely used my teeth! I've never had a steak before that I could "chew" by using my tongue and the roof of my mouth. Everything was perfect, from the staff to the ambience. The best steak in Charleston. Great place for anniversary dinners, client meetings, etc. The restaurant is located in an old train station and is decorated nicely. The way the tables are set up it is easy to have a private, intimate meal, even with a larger group. Service is always phenomenal. The ambiance of the interior, with beautiful crystal chandeliers, helps keep the fine dining experience at Laury's. Would be nice if all the bulbs in chandeliers were working and crystals cleaned every now and then. Food preparation and service was above par and still considered one of the top restaurants in Charleston. But there more restaurants to choose from, with wider selection of excellent prepared foods and substitutions are acceptable, even encouraged, so you totally get what you want and have enjoyable meal. Wow..where to begin. My wife and I went here to celebrate our 1st year anniversary, and even though NOTHING in this life is perfect, Laury's took its best shot, and it came as close as you can. The server was wonderful. Attentive yet not annoying, which is rare in my experience. The food was..astounding. I would have taken pictures but seeming as the occasion I thought it best not to cheapen it by taking photos of my food. There is a time and place lol that being said..I wish I had. The steak, 8oz filet mignon, was hands down, the BEST steak I've ever had and I've had a lot of steak in my life. It was cooked to medium, my personal preference, and it was stunningly beautiful. This is the first steak in my life I've eaten that I didn't need steak sauce, which they do provide if you ask. The honey roasted carrots were amazing as was the appetizer, a crab cake. Don't let the menu fool you, there's only one. However between my wife and I, it was more than satisfying. The 20year tawny port wine was sublime. I can't wait to try the 40year. And the desert, blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream..god that was good. Everything was $186 total and worth every single penny. This is truly fine dining at its best. We were promptly greeted and our server, Charles, took the time to inform us about different menu items. I strongly recommend the Caesar salad, prepared from scratch at the table. ONE OF A KIND! After reading fellow Yelper and fellow foodie, Ashlee T's review, this became a top of the bucket list requirement for me. The train depot setting is surreal. I swear there was a moment or two when I felt I was in a Fellini film. The ambiance works. The interior is unexpectedly drop dead gorgeous. No plastic forks or styrofoam cups to be seen. The Govenor's wife probably dines here often with classmates of yesteryear. You won't find a better meal in all of West Virginia. The beef is legendary. No point in my waisting words about how you can, "cut it with the back of your butter knife". The escargot had to have been raised in a rose garden by some French Sisters of Mercy. They must've given up their tender little souls so graciously in death, (the escargot, not the Sisters). They were then bathed in fragrant, hot butter, beautifully plated, and beautifully served. Amazing! And the Dessert? Don't leave without sampling it. You don't know but what you might get run over by a car on your way home and never have another chance to try it. Order it even if you have to leave share it with the next table or leave some on the plate. I'm convinced the wait-service or kitchen staff will find some use for it. Regarding the Wait-service. I arrived in a vicious mood. I've waited for years in my travels for restaurant repairs, and the stars to align to enjoy a meal at this long celebrated restaurant. The day finally arrived but twenty minutes before the appointed time one of my client/guests cancelled. Knowing how hard it can be to get a rez two of us went anyway. I've often said it is the Wait-service that makes or breaks it for me. On this occasion it was Ms. Betty who proved me right and saved this wonderful restaurant's reputation. I arrived as an angry, bitter old traveler with a chip on his shoulder. I was unhappy and in the foulest of moods after a very tough day in my toughest market.
