First time dining here, and I couldn't imagine us ever coming back. Really disappointed. The reviews were so good, we thought this was going to be great. We were in visiting on a work trip and we were looking for some great food. First off, the venue space is nice. I really liked the atmosphere and vibe. Unfortunately, things kind of didn't start well and they just went downhill from there. We were looking at the higher dollar menu items like the seabass and scallops. They had a scallops special that caught our attention but the chef wouldn't budge on the menu sides. We were looking for something lower carb. What I wanted was the scallop dinner with the special miso sauce, but instead of the sweet potato hash, I wanted veggies. But the server said the chef said no. Based on that, we both ended up ordering a hamburger. It wasn't what we wanted but we felt it was the safest option based on the quality of the appetizer. You see, we had ordered some calamari and it was so bad we had to send it back. It was nothing but hard crunchy batter. There was very little calamari actually in the pieces. You couldn't even pierce it with your fork. It was horrible. Based on the quality and flavor of the calamari, we decided to not take the risk on sea bass or scallops. The burgers came out and they were ok. Nothing special. I've read through some of the other reviews about the complaints of how salty the food is, and I can confirm the food we had was way over salted. Now for the service. This was a really awkward and uncomfortable night. The server was trying but he honestly didn't fit the price point of the menu. Each interaction was more awkward than the next. The things he would say and the way he communicated, made us so confused and uncomfortable. He was a nice guy, he just probably isn't a good fit as a server. We've had good meals in Charleston before, tonight wasn't one of them. The martinis we had were good, but we walked out of there only spending $70, while we had a budget of $125 each to spend. This restaurant lost out on $180 worth of business all because they didn't want to budge on the scallops dish. Do the math, this wasn't a smart business decision. read more

I came here for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. Personally, I am not a fan of the seating. The barrel tables are neat, but the chairs were wobbly and uncomfortable in a short skirt. The gentleman who waited on us was kind and attentive. I ordered the salmon and my partner had a burger. My salmon was well cooked and I really enjoyed the sweet potato puree as well as the rice and Brussels sprouts. I will say, I have had a similar experience with a dish from Longhorn. My partner said he really enjoyed his burger. Overall, we had a good experience but it is a bit overrated for the price, in my opinion. read more

Ate at this location on 11/13/2025. This place was incredible from start to finish! The aesthetics were beautiful - warm wood, unique barrel décor, and a cozy vibe that made the whole atmosphere feel inviting. The music set the perfect tone in the background - it wasn't overpowering at all (which is often times the case at the majority of restaurants), AND the music was of good taste, which is also a plus! Tommie was great: friendly, attentive, and full of character! The food was incredible and prepared exactly the way I asked. I had the pimento burger with fries, and it was absolutely delicious. The peanut butter pie for dessert was the perfect finishing touch - rich, flavorful, and unforgettable. Overall, a very easy 10/10. Had high expectations based on other reviews but the food was very disappointing. Almost everything was greasy, overly salty, and it seemed like they were trying to cover up the bland taste with excessive cheese and butter. On top of that some of the main courses were cold, uncooked, or overly cooked and burnt. I would recommend skipping unless you're looking for a greasy diner experience. My husband I had the special (filet, broccolini, Mac n cheese, and lobster tail)...our friend had the swordfish....both were delicious. My only issue. We made a reservation for 9pm, at 10:12 we tried to order another round of drinks and were told they closed at 10 so they weren't serving anything else. Before our server brought our check she offered us to order dessert. So I was confused. If you closed at 10 how could I order desserts but another round of drinks. We went for an early dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We were able to sit in one of the barrel tables which was really cool. Our server, Tom, was so friendly and attentive. He gave us recommendations since we're from out of town and provided excellent service. I had the swordfish which was very good. The rice was a little plain - I would get a different side next time, the veggies were good. My husband got the spicy burger and fries and enjoyed it. Went here to celebrate my hubby's birthday and was very disappointed. He ordered the special, 5 cheese ravioli with herb chicken and it came out cold. I ordered the shrimp and grits which was pretty good. For dessert we each had a crème brûlée but they didn't even write happy birthday on it, or a candle or even say happy birthday. So uneventful. Charleston was our midpoint from VA to OH for the night. Found this spot from fellow yelpers. Grabbed a reservation on OpenTable (so convenient) and requested a barrel room. We were seated as soon as we arrived in one of their barrel rooms which was super cool! The rest of the place is very well done as well with brick walls and barrel tables. They could use a better light on their outdoor sign-we almost missed it! I had potato soup on special and the fried green tomatoes with filet. My hubby got the crab stuffed salmon special. Place is very... unique. Trying to be upper crust but really bottom of the barrel. Service was trying but ultimately failed. One person to serve a large group doesn't cut it. And the fact that orders were wrong, people didn't get their food nor in a timely fashion just made it worse. Everything here is SALT. just SALT. I've never had saltier hummus, saltier filet, saltier vegetables. Jesus. My sodium intake for the year in one sitting. Could even finish my food. Had to dip my filet in the mashed potatoes to eat away at the salt. Just dreadful. Left the veggies. Good god couldn't get through the salt. Wouldn't bother if you were thinking about this place. The manager saying that a burner was off for the pan they were cooking in was the reason, is a poor and fake excuse. I ordered my steak medium - medium well. Came out more on the raw side. Had zero seasoning or flavor to it. Only thing good on the plate was the mac and cheese. But hey, at least I let the staff know that one of the two tables they sat at the same time was being ignored. Came to Brick & Barrel with some work associates and had a terrific experience. Our waitress was great and took excellent care of our party. The place was very cozy and had a great selection of alcoholic beverages. We started our meal with the crab & artichoke dip and it was the bomb! Definitely recommend getting this to start your meal and it came with plenty of chips for everyone. I ordered the hangover burger and it was pretty good. The egg and onions gave the burger its signature flavor. Everyone else I was with raves about their meal. Though the food tasted good, it was cold ( asparagus was warm and delicious) and such a small portion of sea bass for $45-- 2 " × 1". I was charged an extra $3 for getting asparagus instead of the green beans that came with the dish-- $48 for dish. I was not told of the extra charge up front. Waitress never returned to inquire-- why 3/ 5 rating for service. I did have to go eat afterwards-- still hungry. read more

The aptly named Bricks and Barrels serves a delicious grilled pork chop. Done to the exact temperature I requested, it had an authentic grilled flavor. It was served with a side of mashed potatoes, green beans and apple chutney. The chutney was the only item that could have been better. It was served in a small plastic cup and it didn't seem fresh; but, it was tasty with a spicy finish. The service was good despite it being a busy night. read more

I used the Open Table app to secure our same-day reservation. They also were able to honor my special request for a barrel (the special request is a field/feature on the app). We arrived at the stated time and were promptly seated. Our server was friendly and attentive. We never lacked for water or other beverages. We ordered the charcuterie board as a starter. I found it underwhelming for the price ($22). I've had their charcuterie before and this didn't live up to the memory. I had a cup of lobster bisque before my meal. It was very rich and maybe a tad too salty. I took half of it home, where it reheated nicely (added a couple tablespoons whole milk). I ordered the butter-basted salmon medium well. Guessing that previously I'd had it "medium," which is what I'll get next time, but this was good and also reheated well. My dining companions both selected the ribeye, which comes with a Parmesan risotto and green beans. One of them swapped out the beans for Brussels sprouts. I like that Bricks & Barrels allows for substitutions. Tiramisu was a nice, light, shared dessert. I highly recommend the peanut butter pie (more of a brick with Oreo crust) if you want something more indulgent. The menu of seasonal cocktails is also sure to have something to please every palate. I'm not a beer drinker, but one of my friends enjoyed the two draft craft brews ordered. In all, it was a great evening celebrating a milestone in a place that's not your run-of-the-mill restaurant. Being able to dine in a barrel is really cool. I've been here for special occasions and more casual experiences--and each have been great. To update my review, apparently someone from the restaurant read my last review and raised the price of the CF Chardonnay from $28 to $42. It's still a good price and I bought it again. It tasted the same! We had the same food, the excellent lobster bisque and the filet and fried green tomato appetizer, which is great. They took the chocolate brick off the menu. Disappointing! Service was a little slow tonight, particularly at the end. It's a great place and we'll figure out a way to return. read more

We drove from Ripley to try Brick & Barrels for our anniversary. When we arrived we were very impressed with the restaurant and wait staff. We had a great experience. Our server was wonderful and the food was excellent. They have the best lobster bisque I have ever had. The only reason I gave this restaurant 4/5 stars was because our meal took 45 minutes from the time we ordered until it was delivered. Overall, we would recommend trying Bricks & Barrels. read more

Came here to celebrate my anniversary with my wife. The main dining room was very nice but they seated us in a side room which was clearly not on the same level. I ordered the filet medium. Came out burnt and well done with no seasoning. I took one bite. It was tough, flavorless, by far the worst steak I have ever tried at a restaurant, so I sent it back. Meanwhile, my wife had the pork chop. It was bland, no seasoning at all. Everything on her plate was bland. Had fireball apple butter in it and she remarked that it tasted like it was from a grocery store. Finally got my remade filet after about 20 minutes and my wife was finished choking down what she could manage, to cut into the steak in front of the manager to find it so undone it was jiggling. Manager immediately took it away and I said we would just take the check. Spoke to the waiter and asked if they could comp the check, she offered a free dessert which we weren't interested in. I almost asked price, but figured how much can chicken and ham with cheese deep fried cost? When the food arrived I figured due to the small portion size it would be under $20. Wow was I surprised to see the bill with a charge of $42 for the "special." The meat portion was far less than 6 ounces with some potatoes and about 6 spears of asparagus. If you decide to go and the "special" is offered. Ask the cost! The service was also just okay with little attention to our table. Quite an intimate place but depending on the time (especially during baseball season when there's a home game) things can be buzzing and quite loud. What an absolutely wonderful dinner for my mother's 80th birthday. We booked the small party room for 20 people. It was nice and cozy and well set up. I would probably not go much bigger because of the acoustics but the room was perfect for a group our size. Our waitress Chelsie was very good at her job. Our orders were accurate, drinks full and service was prompt. Beyond being a great waitress she was so sweet and kind, made jokes with my family and entertained my daughter's playful personality. The chef did a fantastic job. We ordered the appetizers of fried green tomatoes, calamari and several people had soup and salad. The fried green tomatoes were bursting with flavor. They were paired with pimento cheese (a lot of pimento cheese lol) and each tomato had a slice of medium rare (maybe rare) filet mignon on top with a balsamic drizzle. The filet was so tender and rich it was a great combination with the tart flavor of the tomatoes. Everyone that ordered the made from scratch soups raved about the flavor even stating that they could have had that as their meal. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The food was fantastic and priced reasonably for what you get. The portions in my opinion were good size. We finished our meal with crème brûlée and ice cream sundaes and left with smiles on our faces. We will be back. When I return I plan to reserve a bourbon barrel table to sit in, so cute. Bricks & Barrels is a decent choice for upscale fare... IF you choose wisely, and if you come on the right evening. Came here on a Tuesday evening to have dinner with a friend. This place came well-recommended and the pictures of the offerings were quite appealing. While the outside of the restaurant is relatively unassuming (and you may wonder for a moment if you've found the right place), the inside is very attractively designed with excellent lighting. While they were not busy at the time when we were dining, due to the open-seating plan, I can easily see this place being quite loud during peak business hours, so bear that in mind if you come on a Friday or Saturday evening. The menu certainly looks appealing in its offerings. My friend assured me that the shrimp and grits was to die for (and I fully believe her), though I did not partake of that on this occasion. I opted for a simpler chicken sandwich, which unfortunately was particularly dry and in no way flavorful. The same goes for the "truffle tots", which are nothing more than regular grocery-store tater tots, so expect to be disappointed there (try the mac and cheese instead). The peanut butter pie dessert was excellent, and I would recommend it. Their draft beer list has some good local options as well as your typical brews. I was underwhelmed by the service. Callbacks were infrequent, interactions seemed forced, and menu/drink knowledge was lacking. Additionally, after we ordered our desired dessert (the chocolate brick), she took a full 10 minutes to report back that they were out of it. As a former server myself, here is how the dessert process is supposed to work: on chilled desserts (like pies, cakes, ice cream, etc), turnaround time from order to delivery should be 5 minutes or less, since rarely does anything need to be done aside from plating the dessert and adding any garnishes/toppings. When the restaurant is not busy and it has taken 10 minutes purely to let us know that you did NOT have it available, that shows a failure of the server to follow up twice: to expeditiously check on availability of the dessert, and to let the table know of that fact. Not a great way to finish a meal. All in all, the restaurant certainly looks attractive and seems popular for corporate events, though I personally would only return to try the shrimp and grits to see if it lives up to what my friend claimed. Otherwise, I am certain better options exist in the Charleston area. Overall: 3.0 stars ----- Pros: - Some good food offerings, though avoid sandwiches and basic fare. - Great dessert options (when they are actually available) - Excellent drink selection, a stellar option to have drinks in an upscale setting. Just some everyday, store bought meats and cheeses - but a sizable portion and plenty for our table of 7. The Parmesan tots were great and the dipping sauce for the sweet potato fries was DELICIOUS. The pb & j burger and the pimento cheese burger were really good. The bacon was mistakenly left off of both hangover burgers that were ordered - but the server quickly rectified that.
