    Las Trancas Dip
    Christina D.

Casual date night landed us at Las Trancas in Southridge after seeing Jungle Cruise. I was quickly reminded why they are one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The Las Trancas dip was phenomenal. My chicken chimichanga's where on point; loaded with veggies and tender chicken. My husband got his normal pollo loco and it is hands down the best in the valley. Piled high with two chicken breasts and tons of veggies. You could have fed two people on just his dish. The dip isn't on the menu yet, so you'll have to ask for it, but it's a good change up and only $5, you could make it a meal.

7/10 if it were an option, but I felt 3/5 was a tad too harsh. Now, I'm not gonna lie and act like this place is anything all that special. It's your standard Mexican restaurant, nothing more.... But one the things that I really liked about Las Trancas was their Salsa. In fact, I'd consider it some of the best that I've had. It's a less "chunky" salsa too, which is what I prefer. Aside from the food, I thought the service was good and the decor was refreshing. It is a lot more rustic on the interior than your standard Mexican restaurant. I found that to be kind of cool. Otherwise, not much sets it apart from the others. The salsa will probably bring me back though, I will say that.

Definitely a fan. Cheap menu (reasonable prices, compared to many places) and a heavy (and hot) plate is what you get in return. If you like authentic Mexican, this place has what you're looking for. Service was good. Our server was patient with us ordering. We were pretty indecisive with our selection. Third time was a charm with his return. Delicious food, and clean tables, seating and floors. Do watch out with those plates. VERY hot. Immediately can scold. Again, do be careful with a lot of the plates on the menu. Like, figurative plates but also the literal plate itself. Heh. Also, don't be dumb like me and fill up on the free tortilla chips. :P

Good food, consistent, not too pricy. The California Burrito is awesome! It's huge! The Chicken Taco Salad is good. The chips are a little thicker here than other Mexican in the area. The decor is most impressive. Large log wood construction, high ceilings, feels very roomy (because it is). We like having this place in the rotation.

When you ignore the request "no cheese" it ruins the dinner that costs me $60 to bring home, and not eat.

We were in visiting on a work trip and we were looking for some great food. First off, the venue space is nice. I really liked the atmosphere and vibe. Unfortunately, things kind of didn't start well and they just went downhill from there. We were looking at the higher dollar menu items like the seabass and scallops. They had a scallops special that caught our attention but the chef wouldn't budge on the menu sides. We were looking for something lower carb. What I wanted was the scallop dinner with the special miso sauce, but instead of the sweet potato hash, I wanted veggies. But the server said the chef said no. Based on that, we both ended up ordering a hamburger. It wasn't what we wanted but we felt it was the safest option based on the quality of the appetizer. You see, we had ordered some calamari and it was so bad we had to send it back. It was nothing but hard crunchy batter. There was very little calamari actually in the pieces. You couldn't even pierce it with your fork. It was horrible. Based on the quality and flavor of the calamari, we decided to not take the risk on sea bass or scallops. The burgers came out and they were ok. Nothing special. I've read through some of the other reviews about the complaints of how salty the food is, and I can confirm the food we had was way over salted. Now for the service. This was a really awkward and uncomfortable night. The server was trying but he honestly didn't fit the price point of the menu. Each interaction was more awkward than the next. The things he would say and the way he communicated, made us so confused and uncomfortable. He was a nice guy, he just probably isn't a good fit as a server. We've had good meals in Charleston before, tonight wasn't one of them. The martinis we had were good, but we walked out of there only spending $70, while we had a budget of $125 each to spend. This restaurant lost out on $180 worth of business all because they didn't want to budge on the scallops dish. Do the math, this wasn't a smart business decision.
