As a non-New England native, I believe I'm excused from the obligatory 'Dunks' obsession - and for those who work right downtown, this was our only option until Brew opened. Word spread in my building like wildfire and we are embracing this eclectic little place like the saving grace of coffee that it is. There is indoor and outdoor seating, breakfast and lunch food options, and a great variety of coffees and teas with multiple preparation methods. Everything I have tried so far has been fresh and tasty. One of the week days we were in, a summer camp group of 4-5 year olds were in just bubbling with excitement and asking the staff a million questions. I noted there were several customers with 'looks' on their faces - so I think it's fair that you be warned this is not a snooty 'I'm here to work quietly while I consume 15X's my recommended daily caffeine intake' sort of place at all times. I think it's nice that they entertain a variety of customer types and with a town center sorely lacking in activities it's a pleasant surprise. Nice people, good ambiance, great coffee, but PLEASE be mindful of the food preparation. Watched someone put on gloves, handle food (literally touching eggs on sandwiches and bread), keep the gloves on, grab the phone to answer, check out another customer touching the ipad/register screen (which rotates and customers touch), then swiped a credit card ALL WITH THE SAME GLOVES. Then turned around and directly handles food again with the same pair of gloves on. Not acceptable especially given the current attention to cleanliness and health. read more

Clean environment and great for meetings, hangouts or just reading a good book. The staff is friendly and I personally feel like they go the extra mile to make sure you are pleased with what you ordered. So why did I not give it 5 stars? I am a coffee roaster myself and get excited when I find little coffee shops like this one. I feel that smaller shops can focus on excellent coffee. The Brew's coffee is not bad, it's just kind of meh. Perhaps in the future they can use more than one company's roasts. Or maybe rotate which coffee roasters they use on a month basis. Great coffee store! The inside is gorgeous - super modern with exposed beams, chemistry themed wallpaper and comfortable leather couches. The machines are all new, shiny and gorgeous! I went early one more for coffee before work and the employees took time to teach us about the different machines while my coffee brewed. I also got a warm chocolate chip cookie to start the day. The coffee was good but not amazing. The first time I tried Guatemelan coffee and my friend got Kenyan coffee made from the new Seraphim coffee machine. Mine was light with citrus flavors and my friend's was a little darker with mocha notes. They took fresh beans, ground them and it took about 5 minutes to seep. The coffee was good but to die for. The second time I got a cold brew coffee. I thought that it would be a natural sweet flavor like the cold brew from Starbucks, but this one was slightly bitter. I saved it for the next morning and it was strong enough to keep me energized through the whole day! Overally, an adorable place to hang out or catch up with someone. Maybe 3.5 stars? Decor was cool and stuff. But like someone said-it was FREEZING. I dont know if it was the spot we sat in (maybe there might have been a draft coming from the ceiling or whatever) but (across the 3 hours that we were there) first I put my Canada Goose back on.. then I zipped it up, then I added my thick circle scarf... What. What's happeninggg. We shared a large caramel latte... Usually we get vanilla lattes, but I guess we wanted to try something "different". It seems like making large lattes is harder, since proportions are weirder (than say 16oz lattes). I had asked, and I was told that it was 3 shots of espresso and 4 pumps of syrup. When we got it, it was way sweet. Fiance had to drink some and add some more milk. Still too sweet (even for me), so we had to drink a little more and then add some... Basically if we're sitting in a cafe for 3 hours and can't finish a drink between the two of us.... then obviously it's not the best. U_U. Had a pretty good experience here on a Sunday morning before a big Pats game. It was pretty slow when we walked in but picked up about 15 minutes into our visit. There's a good amount of seating for a downtown cafe. Some couches/comfy chairs, tables with chairs and a bar type area as well. The breakfast options were kind of slim to me, which was odd for a coffee place, but the lunch menu had tons of sandwiches, so we'll have to come back again for lunch! We each got iced coffees, which I wish had more ice in them. We also got bagels which I really enjoyed, but wish they had displayed breakfast sandwich options or something else. Terrible cappuccino! Service was great but they need to retrain coffee making procedures and actually use "coffee" in their drinks. It was just hot milk. I will never order from Brew on the Grid again. I was extremely upset by the treatment I endured. My mother and I have been ordering fresh juice, and sandwiches basically every morning since we moved from Worcester from Boston. this year. We enjoy the food at brew on the grid however on 11/3/2018 I had a TERRIBLE experience which took me back a little. On the morning of 11/3/2018 I decided to place a order for pickup. I got 2 bacon egg and cheese bagels and 2 coffees..I arrived to the store and the Cashier said my order was not started yet....I figured it was because the restaurant was very busy that a.m and mostlikely understaffed so I sat down and waited for my order to be started, finished and called.. After some time roughly 20 min and many called sandwiches and coffes later I was wondering where my order was. , So I got back up and inquired again. The Female cashier looks to the male cashier and asks him did he start my order. The white male The Ca shire was extremely rude and unprofessional and first thing He said was " you should just cancel your order" I had payed on grubhub. So my meal was already payed for. The cashire then continued to serve other people there sandwiches and lattes and I continue to wait standing. After standing for 5 Mins. the cashier then looks at me and says, HE doesn't have the items for bacon egg and cheese. and he can subtitle it but it will take him an additional 30 mins to compere my order. Now at this Point I was very concerned because I had been waiting there for 30 min and, seen many others get there sandwiches. But I had to wait for some reason. there was a complete lack of costumer employ communication, which I feel in a cofffe shop is utterly unacceptable.I felt as if I was being avoided.and treated with zero respect as a every morning costumer. So much that I felt like crying. I suspect racism for I am a young African American women being treated with very poor service, while everyone else in the store got their meals in a timely manner. Went to BrewOn The Grid this past Sunday with friends before our mobility class. It was a bit farther than anticipating but it was worth it. I got a large cappuccino and it was made perfectly. Located at a corner beneath an apartment complex, Brew on the Grid is a surprisingly good find for us caffeine overloading wifi hoarding fiends. It is a brightly lit place with numerous seating and sufficient outlet options. Go there later in the day and it's basically a quiet library with caffeine on tap. Their wifi actually allows for work to be done. I surprise even myself the number of places with speeds that can only be dial-up in disguise. The house coffee is not a stand-out, but definitely bang-for-your-buck fuel. The caramellatte is seemingly reminiscent of the caramel macchiato at Starbucks. Close your eyes and you wouldn't even know the difference. There are a variety of bakery items and entree choices if your craving calls. As for parking, it is along the street. So, heed at your own risk, as I have been told and experienced, the meters are not metered. If you catch my drift... Stopped in for lunch today as this location is very close to my work so is super convenient. I've ordered lunch here once before and remember it was good. Haven't been here in a while. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad to go. Asked if they had any veggies I could add on, one employee said they would check. They came back with my salad in a bag and never mentioned anything about it. I noticed that nothing was added to my salad, so I suppose they don't have cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. that can be added. No problem, I get it, restaurants have certain items on their menus and cannot always accommodate. One of the two employees was not very friendly at all, maybe I came on an off day. The other was very friendly. People have bad days, it happens, but maybe just be a little less rude. Also, it was not busy when I came in so it was not like they were packed and rushing around to serve all of their customers. I will say that my salad was not very good. Romaine was crisp, croutons were soggy from sitting in a pre made salad for who knows how long, and sadly the chicken was rubbery. Salad was bare bones and boring, and I think it should come with a roll or baguette. I also did get a drink and a cookie. For the $15 I spent on lunch here, I could've gotten a much better lunch at one of the many local competitors, and for likely less. $15 for lunch is fine, but it needs to be a bit of a better quality than this was and the staff needs to be a bit nicer. Food orders were handled in reverse order (last in first out), meaning we had to wait 30 minutes for avacado toast. Other customers got a refund, we did not. This place is very modern and beautifully decorated! Brew on the grid has a lot of potential. They have a water bowl for dogs out front. Coffee and lattes were very good and made quickly. However, I ordered a bagel and asked for it to be toasted, within minutes it was hard as a rock and almost inedible. The cream cheese they served was plain and in a pre packaged tub. I felt like I was in a cafeteria with the quality of food. Invest in some locally made cream cheese (toms deli, maybe Ed Hyders) it will be infinitely better than a cold, barely spreadable tiny container of cream cheese. My friend ordered a breakfast sandwich and apparently, it can only be served on an English muffin. Why is this exactly? No one offered an explanation, just that it can't be done. When I told friends about my negative food experience, they told me "yeah, they're not known for their food" But surely, they can't survive as a business on just coffee and espresso alone. Stopped here on the way back to NYC from Maine and enjoyed a nice cappuccino here. My fiance gave our origin away when she ordered an iced red-eye. The barista immediately asked us if we're from NY since thats how she learned the lingo of the drink. This place is very large and trendy and hey could fit more seating but I dont think they need to. Long story short: Coffee bad. Service bad. Food bad. Short story long: I'll focus on the coffee here, because that's ultimately all I care about. I have given this place multiple chances. I finally took a solid 6 months off after it continually disappointed me. We both needed our space from each other to reset our expectations. After 6 months I order a pour-over light roast coffee. I'll wait the 5 minutes for a better coffee. 10 minutes (I'm estimating) later I have to go to the counter and ask for my pour over, which I could plainly see was done brewing for some time, now just getting cold. I should take the time here to explain that I'm fine with bad service and I don't even find it that upsetting, as long as my coffee is good. It wasn't. Although my preference is for good coffee, I've been known to drink bad coffee until it's completely gone. This is probably the 3rd cup from The Brew that I've dumped out. "Unfinishable." I can only theorize that the beans are either poor quality or mishandled at some point. Who knows? What I know is that a cafe or coffee shop should be able to make a decent cup of regular coffee. This seems to be a struggle at The Brew. I honestly am baffled by the current 4.5 star rating. Unfortunately with no real competition within a 15 minute walk The Brew unlikely to change until change is thrusted upon it. read more
