We came to Brilla after attending a silent retreat for several days. We did the typical Yelp search because we weren't familiar with the area. Brilla had one of the highest reviews and was pretty close to our retreat. This coffee shop was very spacious and looked like it could seat more than 40 people which is great if you want to have a bite and chat, but probably not a good thing if you plan on working remotely. I also thought it was a great idea to have a drive thru like other major coffee shops (Dunkin, Starbucks, etc). I ordered an iced pistachio, dark chocolate latte and a spinach pie. I was a little disappointed that the drinks were just decent. I think the other reviews had me thinking this place was spectacular and it just wasn't for me. The flavor tasted a little too artificial and I prioritize more natural flavors than something sweet/syrupy. The spinach pie was good. It was flaky, cheesy and somewhat flavorful. The staff were professional and made our order pretty quickly. This spot will do the job for a cup of coffee and a quick bite, but this place doesn't seem like it has anything really craveworthy. Food: - I ordered the iced caramel latte with oat milk and it was good but just a tad bit diluted for my taste. But my husband ordered the iced pistachio mocha latte and it was really good! - we also tried the spinach cheese pastry and that was tasty as well Service: The staff were nice and we got our orders rather quickly. Ambiance: I really love what they did with the space. There's a lot of tables and chairs but decorated in a way that is very inviting. Found this coffee shop through a Google search & I gotta say it definitely lived up to my expectations. Loved the name, loved the Christmas decor and the coffee themed interior, friendly staff and fun, unique flavored brews both in house & take home brews. Just a local coffee shop that also welcomes pets :) It has a simple but unique selection of coffee, smoothies, drinks & food. I got the strawberry banana smoothie and my friend got hot chocolate. A bit expensive but also reasonably priced for the atmosphere. A small wait because we went around lunch time- about 10 or 15 minutes mainly because we got food too but nothing crazy. I typically go to Brilla regularly on weekends and always enjoy a coffee and breakfast sandwich. Prices I would say are competitive for what it is, but maybe a little on the high end. Great move on their part to their new location. Brilla's new location in Holden is just a few minutes more up the street. My wife and I love their coffee here. My favorite bean in Central MA. It's very cultured--and they roast Nicaraguan beans. I drink my coffees black and you can truly taste the smooth and richness of the coffee. They also offer nitro cold brew now as the previous location down the street did not. They have a display and sell their own coffee beans you can buy and plenty of seating and high chairs now. Bathrooms I noticed were also pretty clean with changing stations--even in the men's bathroom. New location has plenty of parking now and even has a drive thru for those on the run. I have not used the drive thru yet but service going in is fairly quick too. There is construction on the roads here as I write this so you might have to take a small detour during the day. Don't let this discourage your visit checking out Brilla's new shop. Cheers read more

Coffee was not good. Typically drink coffee black, so it's important to be really great beans, this missed the mark.

My sister and I have been loyal customers of this coffee shop since they opened, so it's disappointing to feel let down after our recent visit. We went through the drive-thru and ordered two tan cheek lattes with oat milk. The staff member repeated the order back and we *thought* she said oat milk again--my sister had been pretty clear. It turns out she actually said whole milk, but because we misheard and assumed it was correct, we didn't catch the mistake at the time. When we got to the window, we were surprised to be charged \$20 for just the two lattes--especially considering we paid \$19 the *day before* for the same two lattes *plus* a chai tea. We weren't sure what changed in pricing overnight. Then we were told the drinks had whole milk. We explained we had asked for oat milk and politely asked if they could remake them. Unfortunately, they said they could only do that if we paid again. We were surprised and disappointed by this--especially since it was a simple miscommunication and we've supported this business for so long. What really got us thinking was: what if someone had a dairy allergy or was lactose intolerant? Having to pay again for a remake in that case feels wrong and even unsafe. We ended up driving away without the drinks, feeling pretty let down. We hope this shop can reconsider how they handle these kinds of situations in the future, especially with their regulars. read more

In all fairness, I can't comment on any of the food or coffee...I walked in the first time, and the music was so loud (and it was loud pop music) so I walked right out again. I don't understand why so many of these places have to have blasting pop music, loud and annoying. I can't hear myself think, let alone have a nice calm time or talk with a friend. If I could give this place no stars, I would. Staff is incredibly rude. I've been here before and ordered my usual coffee. One with oat milk and the other with almond. The one with almond I ordered had a bad taste. So I went back in to get the coffee remade. The girl behind the counter starts making it and stops and says if I think it tastes bad, I have to pay for an entire new drink. I told her she could have the other back, I've been here before and this just tastes off. She refused and said I wouldn't get a new coffee unless buying a new drink entirely. After some back and forth I asked to speak to a manger. She points to a man and says he's over there by the wall. So I walk over and ask if he's the manager and he said no, he was just a customer...... I go back to the counter and say you sent me to a customer?? She laughed in my face. I then ask where is the manager? She advised one isn't even working right now. And then offered to give me whole milk only. I can't have dairy. So I tell her this and she said any other milk than dairy will be a full charged drink. Unreal experience. I'm still dumbfounded that this could have all been avoided by just remaking me a new coffee and dumping the old one. I'm a nurse at UMass memorial and have mentioned this place to coworkers and telling them to try this place. I'll now be encouraging people NOT to come here. Love this place!!! I only drink espresso/latte. Been going here for about a year. The owner family is super nice. We order different flavors either online or in person. Beans are really good and cheap compared to almost all places. Tons of bean flavors, caf or DECAF beans for any flavor!! THEY GROW THEIR OWN BEANS! (Not here though). Also they use high quality barista milk substitutes, not the pretend watered down stuff. We spent about a month trying new coffee places since it's been a while and needed something new. That's how we found this shop, and so glad we did. Some places of mention are Fuel America in Worcester, strong coffee but that's the only espresso experience and it's not something for everyday or everyone. You can make a latte stronger but if it's too strong there's nothing you can do without killing the flavor balance. Plus the guy would not tell me where he gets his beans from. I'm not going to go there every single day, sell me some beans so I can make this at home.... whatever. Another place of mention in all the fails of people not knowing how to make a iced latte despite it being on the menu, is Sturbridge Coffee Roasters in Dudley. Their coffee beans are expensive $$$$ and in store ice latte, well just get a hot one same thing but cheaper. The owner man doesn't believe in ice or in treating his customers with dignity. I think about getting their beans on occasion but it's just so expensive and really not that special. Finally, a coffee roaster in Holden!!! Alex and Osiris have created a little piece of coffee heaven in coffee Siberia!! The important factors include lots of parking and pretty easy on and off the highway to get in and out. Once you're inside just be prepared for coffee bliss. The welcome is warm and the coffee is absolutely delicious. They're cold brew rivals the best I have tasted all around the country. There's a lot of love when they roast the beans from Nicaragua, their home country. Both owners sat down with me and spent quite a bit of time explaining the process and their passion. Coffee was ok, asked for a blueberry scone, received a Cinnamon one. After sitting for about 5 mins, they started blasting Brazilian music. Felt like I was at a dance club. I went here with my two grandchildren for the first time. We ordered a regular coffee for me, a chocolate cake to split and the kids grabbed chocolate milk out of the fridge. I asked that the cake be cut in two, so the kids wouldn't fight over it. I was asked what I mean by regular coffee. I handed her a $20. While we were ordering, the owner stopped everything for pictures. So everyone who was working left to join in. Hence, I never got my change or confirmation that I was all set. After they were done with the photos, I asked for my change and what happens next. She said she will call my name. We needed a table for 3. There were some empty tables but with items on them, so we were not sure if they were taken. We sat anyway and moved the stuff. I did not hear my name but saw a coffee cup and a container with the cake. I asked again for the cake to be cut. Sorry to say, but the cake was awful. The kids liked the chocolate milk. There weren't any obvious trash cans. So what do you do? Do you leave your trash so that others think the table is taken? I know people were looking forward to Brilla but I will not return. This is one of the best coffee shops in the Holden/Worcester area. All of their coffee is made from their own roasted coffee beans in house. The cold brew is my favorite and they offer a ton of flavor shots as well. My husband likes to brew his own so it's great that he can get his ground coffee and I can get a pre-made one! They also have good pastries, I've tried the cinnamon roll and the dough is fresh and light- not too heavy which I like.
