Went here for an early lunch the other day. It was 11 am so the place was pretty empty, just one other guy enjoying some food. The place was small but seated 15 people maybe and it had a cool vibe. Have heard that it can get really busy during lunch so 11 seemed like a great time to beat the rush. I took a moment to look over the menu but I knew what I wanted before I even walked in... I wanted to try the reuben. The menu was impressive, a large selection with plenty of vegetarian options, they also feature some daily soups. The reuben was about $7 which isn't too bad for a sandwich these days. A couple of guys at the grill quickly put my reuben together and before I knew it I was sitting down for a solid lunch. The reuben was good, not the best one in the city or even the loop but a good one. Personally I think Eppy's or Paramount Room has a better reuben for just as good of a price. If I'm over near Brett's again I'll give it a try. They had a great menu, at a good price and friendly service. But I don't think I'll be going back for the reuben anytime soon. read more

Service needs work. Ordered a reuben at 12:30 today, didn't get it until 5 after 1. Order came up and sat by the register in front. I stood at the counter, patiently waiting for my food. No one ever checked in with me. Eventually, after another reuben came up - someone that no doubt ordered well after i did - i spoke up, and instead of an apology or "how can we make this right" i got "why didn't you say something"? Food is decent but in this neighborhood there are too many other great options to deal with lousy service and bad attitudes Won't be back. read more

This is my favorite lunch place in river north. They have basic lunch selections at reasonable prices (always cheaper than going to nearby delicious or galleria market) and have a tasty revolving specials - the veggie burrito and veggie burger with mango chutney are my favorites. They also have a pretty extensive hot breakfast selection. read more

Everything is good here...and I really mean everything! Sandwiches, eggs, etc...you can't go wrong no matter what you order! I've ate here about once a week for the past year and have yet to get sick of it. Don't expect anything fancy, but do expect good food. read more

OK, gotta say this.. the food here is relatively okay but extremely overpriced for the paltry portion sizes. The real problem however is the horrible service.. every time I go in here.. I stand around waiting, although there are not many people .. The food is good...I really like the sweet potato fries...the burgers are great and the chorizo and egg sandwich is good....it is a bit pricy and normally that would not bother me for good food.....BUT....the staff has such attitude. The cashier acts like he has been sentenced to hard labor....it is not pleasant to deal with him at all. This isn't your spot if you're vegetarian. I ordered a grilled cheese with tomato and basil, simple enough. I waited at the counter for my lunch as required so I had a great view of a sandwich that was straight cooked in bacon grease then lifted off the grill will a spatula covered in steak. No joke, there were bits of steak stuck to the sandwich. I told the gent working the grill that I won't be able to eat that as I am vegetarian. So he says "Okay, I can give you this other one". Silly me, I assumed "this other one" was another of the sandwich I ordered. It was not, and it also tastes like bacon grease. $12 for a sandwich I threw away and a tiny cup of coleslaw, I won't be back and I don't recommend this place. read more

If I order vegetarian sandwich, is it necessary to make it on bacon and burger grease..!? (Every time). Soup cups only filled half way.... They are cutting on portions and quality and prices are going higher and higher. This place used to be much better. Since starting my new job, Brett's has quickly become a favorite spot for lunch. The staff is definitely fast, but they're also really friendly. The food is great and decently priced. I'd recommend grabbing a take out menu and studying up before you step up to the counter. I keep reminding myself to on a Friday so I can try one of these special brownies people keep talking about. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat and it was just what were looking for. I had a delicious Reuben sandwich and tried the tuna salad sandwich was also really tasty. I had a bowl of the carrot dill soup which the lady over the counter recommended and now I want the recipe! Good reuben. That's all I had. It was toasted which was a nice change. But not the best reuben in town by any means. The place is small and quaint. We were in and out, but I guess during peak hours it gets pretty busy. Kind of reminds me of a place you'd find in Greenwich Village. The pulp-heavy fresh-squeezed orange juice here is deeeeelicious! It's $3.50 for a medium-sized plastic cup, but it's worth every penny. Service is super-sweet, and this is also a very family-friendly place - seems like a rarity out here in River North in the gallery district. Quick and tasty-- that is Brett's kitchen. I grabbed a bite to eat before dress shopping down the street. Both my best friend and her mom enjoyed their meal as well as her 4 year old's niece. Quick, friendly and a bit pricey. But the food is great. Their portobello mushroom sandwich with provolone is a favorite. They are known for their Mexican chicken sandwich which is flavorful. And you can never go wrong with fries, which I try and steer away from (but continually fail). read more

I used to eat at Brett's EVERY DAY (voluntarily and religiously) when I worked nearby. They have a basic menu with lots of burger / sandwich options. I tried a few, but my personal favorite is the cheeseburger with chipotle sauce and diced jalapeno peppers (you have to ask for the sauce and peppers. Good thing is, they don't charge extra for additional ingredients. And you get a pickle on the side!). I don't know what it is but I've been getting cheeseburgers my entire life at every burger joint I go to and none are quite like how they make it at Brett's. I work on Michigan Ave now, so I don't get to go back as much, but I really miss it and urge everyone to try out this place. read more

Restaurants make mistakes on orders. It happens and really isn't that big of a deal. But after a customer picks up an order for 6 people, walks back to their office to realize the order was missing one of the meals and comes all the way back to the restaurant the LEAST you could do is apologize. I genuinely think I left the bar pretty low on this one but as you might guess from the tone of this review, I returned to Brett's to pick up the rest of the order and not only did they not have the replacement ready (I ordered in advance) but the cashier was about as dismissive and unapologetic as one could possibly imagine. read more

When I got here, they told me 'the grill is turned off' - which is a little weird in the middle of the day. The only thing they had was cold sandwiches. I paid $7 for a cold turkey sandwich with turkey meat that was worse than super market bought. I also asked for mustard - and instead of putting it on the sandwich they put a couple packets in the bag. I expected better service and better food. I understand it's the holiday season, but they should have their grill turned on at all times. read more

A friend introduced me to this place a few days ago and this is now a staple in my diet after I finish a Bikram yoga class (the studio is right around the corner and I'm always famished afterward). I've had several of their soups, including the broccoli cream, chicken and rice, and the turkey chili. The made to order sandwiches have all been quickly prepared and loaded up with ingredients that are very fresh. The coffee is great, they have a nice little selection of tea, and plenty of cold beverages to wet your whistle. And to boot, a great staff! Check it out if you haven't! read more

Today I ordered a fruit cup before work to add to my lunch as the fruit looked so nice and fresh in the cabinet display. I don't know where the lady got my fruit cup from but I was surprised to see when I opened the bag a sad looking assortment of not very fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Most of the time I've had a good experience here but I was quite disappointed with this, for $4.25 this is what is given to me. Meh. read more

I went wedding dress shopping with a friend in the area to help her find "the dress." In between appointments, we stopped by to grab a quick snack. I got their banana bread. . . a thick slice, which was extremely moist and the perfect consistency of banana-ness to it. After looking at the boutiques, we stopped back again for lunch. By this time it was early afternoon on a Saturday. To my luck, they were still offering the breakfast menu. . . which made me extremely happy! I ordered their chorizo omlette, which I added some tobacco sauce for a nice kick factor. The hash browns were delish. I liked how the items weren't as greasy and good portion-control sizes. This place was decorated so cutely with their array of colorful mixing bowls, which were placed on top of a shelf along the upper perimeter of their cafe. The cashier was really sweet too. read more

I don't know what the hype is about this place. I've been here twice and both times was not impressed with the food. I'm more unimpressed with the service which is always, slow, rude and overall annoying. Today I came in and tried ordering a French Toast to go and it took almost 20 minutes. I was the only customer along with a red headed girl that may have worked at a different location? She kept going back and forth about hot beverage sleeves and it took FOREVER. UGH, do that on your own time and don't take up mine. I was so annoyed I couldn't wait to get out of there. Once I had a few bites of my French Toast I was more annoyed as it didn't even taste good, there is not enough butter or syrup in the world to make this edible. Luckily, I saw a homeless person and was able to give it to someone in need. I will never go back. read more

Tried out Brett's Kitchen today for the first time. I was walking by and it looked cute so I stopped in. Bright, cute cafe. It was pretty crowded but the line moved fast.
