They really knock it out of the park with the brisket and pulled pork. The sausage had the very satisfying snap and was very tasty. We visited on a Tuesday right when it opened, and it was already filling up with happy patrons. The ample parking and friendly staff made for a great start to the meal. The Meats The brisket had a delicious salt and pepper bark with a nice crust. While it could have been a bit more moist, the rich, smoky flavor was on point and a great representation of a classic Texas brisket. The ribs were a definite standout. They had a beautiful, deep smoke ring and came clean off the bone with a perfect pull, not just falling apart. The dry rub bark was fantastic, allowing the natural smoky flavor of the meat to shine. Both of the sausages were excellent. The house sausage was juicy with a satisfying snap to the casing and a nice peppery kick. Stamp twenty-one, secured. Stop number four. The East Texas BBQ blitz kept rolling, fueled by smoke, ambition, and just enough belly room to tempt fate. Big D and I had logged two stellar joints already, got turned away at stop three (sold out), and now we were heading into the final leg with hope and hunger in the tank. We arrived at Brendyn's BBQ just after 3 PM, the kind of timing that lets you stroll in calm but still chase greatness. One lone customer ahead of us, then we stepped up to the counter. The crew was sharp, friendly, and fully locked into their craft. Once they heard about our road trip and passport stamp quest, the energy kicked up a notch. Pitmaster Brendyn Todd was out, but the pit was in the expert hands of head pitmaster Leanne Perkins, who kept things humming like a well-tuned offset smoker. We came for the Hot Honey Burnt Ends, and we got them, glistening like gold nuggets in a pool of sweet fire. We added a couple of pork ribs, two bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers stuffed with seasoned cream cheese, a side of slaw (Leanne's top pick), and a couple slices of white bread to soak up the glory. The feast: Burnt Ends: Deep char, sticky glaze, buttery texture. These didn't meet expectations, they body-slammed them through the table. Ribs: Confident seasoning, ideal bite, and a rich smoke profile that lingered just long enough to be polite. Poppers: Balanced heat, rich filling, and that candied bacon crunch made them the sleeper hit of the tray. Slaw: Bright and crisp, with red and green cabbage holding their own in a creamy dressing that didn't drown the texture. Then came a surprise worthy of fireworks: the staff brought out banana pudding on the house. No heads-up, no warning. Just layers of fresh banana, silky pudding, and most important of all, the vanilla wafers served on the side, exactly how I like it. I don't do soggy. If the wafer can't hold formation, it doesn't belong on my spoon. We didn't bring anything home. My wife told me before we left, "Don't bring any leftovers home today." So like a fool, I listened. Terrible decision. That banana pudding was the best I've ever eaten. The bowl was cleared before I could even think about a photo. We stopped by this place for lunch. The service is outstanding. The staff is so incredibly helpful. I enjoyed the sausage but it wasn't as juicy as I like but the flavor was on point. The jalapeño poppers were smoked and seasoned beautifully. The brisket was on point and delicious. But my favorite part was the ribs. Taste, texture, pull, smoke, bark... all for ribs! The sides were ok. The beans were good and above average even for the top BBQ restaurants in Texas. The jalapeño creamed corn was just alright. It had a nice flavor but was missing something. The Cole slaw was bitter and lack luster. I added bbq sauce to the coleslaw to make it better for me. And their BBQ sauces are really good. I will go back for brisket and ribs for sure. Called in an order, one main. and two sides and was told to "give them 30 minutes to get the order together." It was not peak meal time, When I arrived, I was forced to wait behind 2 other customers, one of who ordered at the counter at least 3 times the amount of food I ordered on the phone. I tried to tell the cashier I was there to pick up a call in order, (35 minutes after the order was placed), and was rudely told to get in line behind other customers, none of whom ordered ahead. I called this order in because I was ill and did not want to share germs and informed the staff of that fact. It did not matter. I was treated poorly. I wonder if Brendyn thinks he is now Franklin BBQ so he does not have to treat customers with basic courtesy or even civility, or if he is channeling the Soup nazi. No calling in for you!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS EXPERIENCE. Never experienced this when serviced via the food truck. DO BETTER. Brendyn, we know you can. Finally! After chasing a decent plate of 'cue all over East Texas for the last 40 years or so, Texarkana to Beaumont I landed at Brendyn's spot east of downtown Nacogdoches. Sat on a bench outside with my friends, shared a beer with the pitmasters, just like the sign listing the rules said to do. Their outside dining was very reminiscent of some of the old school joints you used to find on the back roads of deep East Texas. The food, though. What about the food? The front of the house staff was very helpful and downright generous with the burnt ends, short ribs at the end of the rack and the wet and dry brisket. Did the barbecue trinity of brisket, sausage and ribs. Even the dry brisket was moist and tasty with a good smoke ring. Rub was subtly spicy and not super salty, a bonus in my book. The ribs were also a little spicy, but with a slightly sweet finish. Sausage was course and juicy with a nice snap to the casing. For sides I got the jalapeno cream corn and the pinto beans. The beans were pretty good. On the creamed corn I'd recommend switching to fresh jalapeños, instead of using the pickled kind because i think it made that dish a little sour, but that's a minor quibble. So, nice joint, good atmosphere, clean inside and out. Top notch meat and sides, for the most part. However, what really drew me in and hooked me was the genuine warmth and generosity that permeates this place from the top down. Brendyn told me what he really likes to see is good people having good times and eating good food, just like me and my friends. Excellent! The service is fantastic. They walk you through the whole menu, make suggestions, and explain everything. Do not be afraid to ask them what $10 worth of any meat looks like (they'll throw it on the little scale and show you what you're getting). The pulled pork was my favorite, narrowly beating the brisket. Everything was very good though. You will leave smelling like a smokehouse, but that's to be expected, lol. The tables and everything were nice. The chairs are a little narrow if you're a big-back, haha. However, it is a great place for BBQ. Will definitely be back again. In Nac visiting my SFA daughter and very glad I noticed this listing. I had the Garebear sandwich, white Mac and cheese, and a link of boudin that was a special for today. I've eaten at Brendyn's several times, and have never been disappointed. The brisket is never dry or bland, and any non-bbq items are always prepared above and beyond what you'd normally make at home. My husband and I moved away from Texas several years ago and we find ourselves missing good barbecue often. We found ourselves in Nacogdoches and weren't expecting to find the best food, but Brendyn's blew us away! When we got to the front of the line, I asked the person behind the counter if he had extra moist brisket. He looked at me and said "well..." and then he squeezed the brisket, and so much juicy amazingness dribbled out that I felt like crying tears of joy. it was an incredible sight and one I will never forget. I could really talk about the brisket all day long. I've had amazing barbecue in Austin and Lockhart and other places all around Texas, and my husband is a native Texan, and the brisket was the best we've ever had. Like ever. I was in town for business and decided to try this spot out. Showed up around 415pm and had the whole place to my self. Ordered a loaded spud with brisket and a key lime pie slice. The loaded spud was fine but the superstar was the pie. Cooked in house and had bits of lime zest. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice to see youngsters using yes sir. Also the banana pudding with absolutely amazing. One more thing before I forget the rib was smoked to perfection. Every single meat I had here was definitely five stars. I should've tried some of the sides as well but I knew I would before with the banana pudding. Service: The line gets long pretty quick but they move you in and out pretty fast. For Texas style BBQ, this place definitely lived up to it's reputation. I moved from Texas a decade ago and really miss this style BBQ. It was my first time to try Brendyn's and I loved it. I ordered the brisket sandwich and it was loaded with tender chopped meat with great smoky flavor. I told him to just put his favorite sauce on it. Not sure which one it was but it was perfect. I ate at this place today. It is superb. The brisket is so tender and moist and delicious I bought 2 pounds of it to freeze and take back to Hawaii. Came across a little gem of a BBQ spot in Nacogdoches...Brendyn's BBQ. Walked up to the counter and the lady doing the meat cutting kindly gave me an overview of the menu. I already saw her make a couple of sandwiches and was impressed, she is a skilled meat cutter. I decided on the Omarvelous Brisket Taco and the Carebear sandwich...watching her stack the meat on the Carebear is sheer artistry!!! The taco is delicious and the layer of jalapeño cream corn with a bit of BBQ sauce really makes it special. The Carebear sandwich is stacked with sausage, brisket, and pulled pork...the sandwich is damned near 3" thick and the Brioche bun does a great job holding it all together. Bottom line...for the carnivore in me this sandwich makes the beast very happy! All I added was a drizzle of the BBQ sauce and the flavors of the different layers were excellent. I have to say the brisket was the shining star of the sandwich and was so tender, but the pulled pork and sausage were no slouch either.
