The inside

The people working are very nice. The place is cute, western appeal. As far as the food - it was just ok. The sauce was too sweet and my husband said the brisket and ribs were well cooked and tender but no flavor and no smoke. Good texture.

a variety of food items

Well, where to begin. First there was only 2 people working. Once we got our food we sat down. There were flies on the tables. Then we start to eat, the worst barbecue we have ever had. Even the banana pudding was a let down, old. The Peach Cobbler was also horrible. We left after taking a few bites. What a waste of $40.00.

Stopped there today to pick up some pork sandwiches for lunch. What a let down and waste of money. I ate my sandwich and had about 3 pieces of grizzle and fat. Not too bad but wasn't impressed with the overall taste. However my mom and niece had one and half sandwiches and it was nothing but grizzle and fat!!! Look at this plate there was no edible meat. Will not ever go there again. Want to go back and complain and get our money back but my Momma wouldn't let me drive back into town to do it. Don't waste your money! Not even worth it if you're starving. HOWEVER the beans were delicious so that's why I gave it 1 star.

One of the best BBQ houses in the south. We ordered the ribeye po boy sandwich and tri tip meat platter. The ribeye meat was the tenderest piece of meat that I have had in a long while. Their house BBQ sauce had great flavor. Their beans were to die for and of course their banana pudding was a perfect finish.

We ordered ourselves a little sampler this time of sausage, pulled pork, brisket, potato salad, cream corn, pinto beans, and the Marvelous Taco. They really knock it out of the park with the brisket and pulled pork. The sausage had the very satisfying snap and was very tasty. There is a good smoke level on everything and I cannot wait to return. We had a magnificent time standing in line and visiting with everyone, including Santa! I would like to mention also that this place is very clean and has clean restroom. The staff here are super friendly and a lot of fun to visit with.

We visited on a Tuesday right when it opened, and it was already filling up with happy patrons. The ample parking and friendly staff made for a great start to the meal. The Meats The brisket had a delicious salt and pepper bark with a nice crust. While it could have been a bit more moist, the rich, smoky flavor was on point and a great representation of a classic Texas brisket. The ribs were a definite standout. They had a beautiful, deep smoke ring and came clean off the bone with a perfect pull, not just falling apart. The dry rub bark was fantastic, allowing the natural smoky flavor of the meat to shine. Both of the sausages were excellent. The house sausage was juicy with a satisfying snap to the casing and a nice peppery kick. The boudin sausage packed a great spicy flavor without being overly filled, which can often make boudin greasy. The Sides & Appetizers We also tried a couple of the unique sides and appetizers. The jalapeño poppers were a pleasant surprise. I usually prefer a protein filling, but the cream cheese had a wonderfully flavorful and creamy texture that won me over. The jalapeño crème corn was another highlight--incredibly creamy with a tangy, spicy kick from the pickled jalapeños mixed throughout. Overall, this barbecue joint is a must-visit. The quality of the meat and the delicious sides truly set it apart.

Went to ordering the food. As we were moving along I saw the kitchen door was open. There was a guy with a huge tub of potato salad. He was mixing it up. Then I looked up above him, and on the ceiling above him was an orange fly strip like you use in a cattle barn, hanging above this tub of potato salad. I told the wife and pointed to it. We were grossed out once again. We left and have never been back.

The town has changed considerably since we went to school here, but finding this location was easy as it is on the main road. Parking is easy as they have a big lot, and we were able to get near the entrance. We walked in and memories came flooding back. We knew exactly what we wanted to order, chopped beef for me, and chopped pork for my wife. Unfortunately, they were out of her pork today, so my wife ended up with the chopped beef too. Service was friendly, quick, and efficient. Orders were placed and food was delivered quickly. As we had one of our dogs with us waiting in the car, we had to take the food to go. We could have eaten inside as the weather was unseasonably cold for this time of year, but we couldn't do that to our dog. The sandwich was just as I remembered and still tasted like they used the same seasoning and sauce (that's a good thing). In this day of high prices, we found the prices to be very reasonable (although it was much higher than when we were in school-lol. Will I return? If I am ever back in Nacogdoches, no doubt that you will find me coming here.

Thank you, Gabby! Someone give that gal a shout out in your next team meeting. She was so attentive and kind. The place was packed for a Saturday evening - lots of large groups of locals. Everyone seemed to know everyone. I've ordered the chicken and dumplings here before and it was very peppery, but tonight it was perfectly seasoned. Warm. Filling. Everything you want. Husband got the fried fish basket - perfectly flakey and moist fish. He thought he ordered the plate but got the basket which is only one side, which he didn't mind but wish he clarified first. You know what stole the show? Their cornbread. I don't know what voodoo they put in their cornbread, but it is so moist, sweet with a crispy outside. Pass on those yeast rolls and just go for the cornbread, you'll thank me later! The restaurant was clean and didn't have any weird smells. We were greeted upon entrance and promptly served.

Makes you feel like you're in a Texas country town for sure! My daughter and I were in Nacogdoches for college visit to SFA and we looked this place up in the hopes that we would find something different than a normal chain stop. It certainly is different and was exactly what you might imagine. Everything on the menu is decently priced and it seems that Tuesday is the place to be with short stack specials for $2 along with the weekday breakfast special at $6.95 On of my daughter's favorite meals is chicken fried steak and what better place to try that than a local diner??? Unfortunately it fell below expectations. The portions were quite large, enough that we could have just split a plate. The idea of sausage gravy on top of the mashed potatos and steak sounds heavy but also potentially fantastic. However both the gravy and the fry were quite under seasoned. I was able to fix mine with some cholula sauce and some salt and pepper was a quick fix as well for my daughter. The side of green beans and carrots she got were actually pretty good so perhaps there was just a disconnect in flavor at the meat station this day. I did very much enjoy the side salad I chose instead of the veggie medley. Came with home-made ranch which brought me back to my East Texas family gatherings with the freshly shaken ranch.....it was great. The portion size was pretty fair value at $13. Like I said we could have just split it between us. Very hit or miss flavors leaves this at a 3-stars for me. But no doubt some of the nicest folks in town work here.
