On a recent trip to East Coast I went to this seafood restaurant. I've been here at least one other time on prior trips to the area. There are a lot of very good seafood restaurants up and down the coast of Connecticut, Rhode Island, etc., however, this spot really isn't one of them. In my most recent trip, I had a mixed experience. The food was good. Both of soups I tried, the lobster bisque and the New England clam chowder, were good. At least as good at other places in the area. The firecracker chicken had good taste, but the chicken was a bit tough. The fish and breading of the fish and chips was good, but french fries seemed stale. Lastly, the blacken mahi mahi was tasty, but I'm not sure they served or preparedthe fish correctly. The dish meet the description on the menu, but rather than fish being prepared with a nice crust of char/spices, I got fish drenched in sweet sauce. It tasted good, but it didn't seem like blackened fish. I ate it because I was hungry. I was hungry because the service that night was poor. It was also super loud in the restaurant. While the server was present and attentive, it took nearly an hour to get the main courses from time of sitting down. When asked why the food took so long, the server merely said the had a lot of big groups. At one point during dinner, I had to used the bathroom. The men's room only had one toilet, and, I will spare you the details, it was super gross and no one would want to use it. The views and atmosphere are amazing, but that's typical of restaurant like these, and more to do with the location and the quality of the restaurant. In sum, this spot is not a hard pass, but be cautious, there are better spots.

My friends and I had reservations for dinner at 7pm but we still had to wait 15-20 minutes for our table. We got drinks while we waited - I got the peach bellini which was yummy. For dinner, I did the crab cake salad but without the cheese and I was disappointed it only came with 3 small bite sized crab cakes and then just the arugula. I wish there was more to the salad. I got a side of the fingerling potatoes and they were good. My friend got the teriyaki hanger steak and that was SO good I wish I got that instead. It's a nicer restaurant as on the nicer side. We sat outside which was nice and it's on the water.

Enjoyed a wonderful early dinner out on the deck overlooking the harbor and clear enough to see Fishers Island and Long Island. I had the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and chips, both were very good. Enjoyed a nice local lager, and our server was knowledgeable and very attentive.

Went to Breakwater while visiting my son in the area; the views and vibe were spectacular, and my oysters were fresh and delicious. I opted for the hot lobster roll, and man, this is what a lobster roll is supposed to be. Absolutely plan to visit Breakwater if you are in the Stonington area!

Usually when in Ct a must stop. Location is beautiful relaxing eating on dock. We started by having parking issues the lot is extremely small. Once inside for our noon reservation we found out they ran out of lobsters and they were waiting for a delivery. Very disappointing. I ordered the fish and chips and the fish was good. My guests ordered the seafood sampler which was not eye appealing but tasted good. The other ordered the blackened fish taco. They are GF and without the gf lobster roll we're limited. The taco was ok. Luckily it was a beautiful day to sit on the dock and sip on our drinks but sure wish they had those lobsters

So the hubby was looking for a restaurant with a ocean view and hoping for a beautiful sunset. Unfortunately the day we went was foggy so we didn't see the sunset....but there is a beautiful ocean view and you can see Fisher's Island from patio deck and interior seating as long as you facing towards the ocean. We arrived early free onsite parking which is a plus. Went inside Sat at the ocean facing bar had a few cocktails and split an order of Oysters Rockefeller 4 plump Ninigrit oysters warm and delicious and the margarita flatbread which I didn't think was going to anything special but it was so good topped with plump roasted grapes tomatoes, cheese and a balsamic drizzle. This was so good but a little messy. We decided to sit inside for dinner since it was a little chilly with the breeze outside. I went with the pan seared scallops over a sundried tomato and asparagus risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The risotto was cooked perfectly but was very bland needed some more acidity or salt. The hubby went with the roasted halibut special served over black rice with garlic, kale and roasted carrots. His halibut was cooked to perfection. I was a little jealous and there was garlic. Roasted kale was very tasty as well. All in all it was a good meal and it would be a nice place to go back to on a sunny day.

Y U M. Oysters were fabulous. The clam chowder? Holy crap. Lobster bisque was GREAT but I think the chowder was better We ordered the firecracker shrimp and it was really great too. The shrimp were massive! I ordered the prickly pear margarita and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was quick and the staff was very kind. This place seems to go both ways, casual & formal. The viewwwwww is unreal. If it wasn't so windy we would have sat outside. Maybe next time!

On our way back to Newport from Mystic, we stopped at Stonington CT for dinner on a recommendation from one of my husband's VPs at his company. He didn't steer us wrong. Breakwater has a great outdoor deck which we took advantage of. It's so nice to dine outside enjoying the ocean, watching the boats and the birds. There's a large bar area inside the restaurant and a large dining room as well. Our server Faith took great care of us. She was engaging and friendly. We started with drinks, a Paloma for me and an ice tea for hubby since we had a long drive back to Newport. I requested the bartender to omit the soda and my Paloma was perfect. Loved the tajin rim. My hubby and I shared the clam & corn fritters and also a bowl of the New England clam chowder. The fritters were crispy with the perfect crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. There were five of them served with homemade tartar sauce. The clam chowder was spot on, filled with lots of clams and diced potatoes, the soup was thick and creamy. I had the tuna tartare appetizer for my entrée, and hubby chose the Baja tacos with grilled salmon. The fish is so fresh in New England. We both enjoyed what we ordered, so tasty! My tuna tartare came with black rice and was served with perfectly crisp wontons. I love black rice! My husband's Baja tacos had huge pieces of perfectly grilled, flaky and tender salmon. He mentioned how much he loved the flavor of the salmon. If you're in the Mystic or Stonington area, I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm so glad it was recommended to us.

Beautiful ambience and definitely a great place to stop to sit by the water. I definitely think that sitting outside on a beautiful day is the best way to eat your meal. The food was very good. I really enjoyed my lobster roll and the kids ate all of their food. My husband thought that the scallops had great flavor. The drinks tasted great also, I could sit by the water and have drinks all afternoon!! lol our server was very nice and helpful. Everything came out fairly quickly. I definitely would come back here or recommend it if you're in the area.

Breakwater was recommended by friends, so glad we listened. Friendly staff, fast service. Seafood oriThe waterfront location is part of the dining experience, specifically if sunny. The food was delicious, priced well. Reservations recommended.

I may be biased because we have had special moments at this place. The people here are so kind! I absolutely love that about this establishment. The food was good too. The seafood was fresh, and the drinks were impressive. When we go to Mystic, we always make sure to pass by here. The Bloody Mary was fun. The calamari wasn't too oily. The raw bar orders were fresh, and inhaled instantly! The view is spectacular. They have a dock which you can park your boat at. Now I need a boat.

The bay!

Great restaurant on the water, the view is spectacular with the bay in the background. I ordered a surf n turf special, a lobster mac&cheese, fish n chips, seafood pasta. Everything was delicious. The service was exceptional. Friendly staff. The atmosphere here is perfect on the water. The prices were reasonable. They have a nice bar inside. Really nice place to be on a Friday night. A little busy at 530. I would love to hang here on a Friday night!

This is much more than your local taco joint; the flavors are delightfully complex and preparation is on point. The service is always impeccable and attentive. There's some pretty great restaurants in the area, but I think honesty, this is currently my favorite location.

We were so excited to happen upon a Mexican resteraunt, because it is always our 1st choice, but…read morethe food was Meh. As a resteraunt, the downstairs was very small with 3 tables & a bar; the upstairs was more spacious. The food was edible, but it wasnt anything special; nothing a novice cook at home couldnt produce taste-wise, & you would have never known you were in a Mexican resteraunt by the food, the ambiance, or the drinks (which is hard to do because margaritas are made of tequila) Granted what we ordered wasn't Mexican, but isn't that strange in itself? I ordered one of the specials: ($27) boneless beef short ribs w/ a mescal mushroom sauce, on a bed of mashed potatoes & spinach w/ pickled onions, & a ginger margarita ($14). My friend chose the special ($26) coconut crusted cod w/ rice, mixed vegetables, pineapple salsa & a house silver margarita (16). Mine was edible & the meat was a good texture, but the flavor profile was nothing to write home about. Actually, it would have have been better without the sauce, because it overpowered the dish. The pickled onion on top was the best part of my meal. The drink also fell flat, but was drinkable. My friend reported that her fish was bland & flavorless, but could have been improved with a little lime. However the waitress never came back after taking the order, except to drop the check. It was delivered by a runner. She commented that everything else on the plate had flavor & as long as she ate bites of everything together, it was decent. I gave it a try, & agreed, but I have to say the pineapple salsa was a stand out star on her plate. Her drink was also passable, but not good enough to order a second & she had to add sweetner, because it was mutually bitter & tart. She said the sweetner improved it. The wait staff was not unpleasant, they were just mot attentive. Needless to say I won't be returning.

On our way to Maine to visit relatives, my companion and I thought a stopover in the peaceful…read moreseaside village of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, with dinner at the famous Ocean House, might be the perfect start to our extended weekend. While the hotel offers several dining possibilities, there is no question in my mind that Coast is their culinary chef d'oeuvre. My dining partner and I found their New England-inspired cuisine to be not only beautifully presented but also absolutely delicious. Throw in an award-winning wine list, friendly & personable service, picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean, and a most satisfying evening at table awaits. Be advised, however... What also awaits is a pretty hefty hit on your pocketbook, as our five-course prix-fixe Degustation Menu - with several choices included - was priced at $145.00 per person, plus beverages, tax & gratuity (there is also a similarly priced vegetarian menu). If you want to add the Reserve Wine Pairing, which I did, that will cost you an additional $125.00 per person (Grand Wine Pairing an additional $250.00 per person). Definitely not what you would call a cheap date. That being said, however, in my opinion - and that of my companion as well - dinner here is well worth the expenditure. Our first course was the Ninigret Pond Oyster "Pan Roast." Sourced from a local coastal lagoon that is linked to the Atlantic Ocean and Block Island Sound, Ninigret Pond is home to several reliable oyster purveyors. I must confess that I have never been an enthusiastic fan of bivalves in general - and raw oysters in particular. However, the pan-roasted representatives sampled here, smooth & buttery with a touch of sweetness and sprinkled with Royal Belgian Osetra Caviar, were quite good indeed. And the Ruinart Singulier 18th Edition, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Nature, Champagne, (France), proved to be the perfect libationary accompaniment. But even better was the outrageously delicious Bluefin Tuna Tartare. I have tasted this dish on numerous occasions; however, this particular incarnation was in a class all by itself. Gently caressed by avocado and kissed by golden kiwi and a beguiling carrot ginger reduction, the result was a presentation that was pleasing to both eye and palate, and a highlight of our evening. The 2019 Tegernseerhof Loibenberg Riesling Smaragd Wachau (Austria), of course, added immensely to the enjoyment. The next course presented us with a rather interesting conundrum... the choice between two equally appetizing possibilities. My dining companion, of course, went immediately for the Seared Scallops & Foie Gras. I, on the other hand, decided to side entirely with the carnivores... Kuro Farms Wagyu Strip Loin. Companioned by short rib, confit carrot, and Sicilian pistachios, this was a winner all the way... as was the wine selection, the 2020 Aslina "Umsasane," an enticing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot from Stellenbosch, South Africa. The dessert course was especially noteworthy, a Blackberry Sudachi Entremet aided and abetted by white chocolate mousse, lavender, and raw honey sponge. A rather unusual denouement, I must admit, but a lovely presentation and irresistibly scrumptious. And, once again, the wine selection - 2018 Domaine Huet Le Mont Moelleux, a Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, Touraine, in France's Loire Valley - was right on the money. The Bottom Line: An exceptionally fine dining experience. Pricey, to be sure... but, in my opinion, worth every penny. A restaurant to which my dining companion and I would gladly return. Highly recommended on all counts.
