Came here for lunch just a quick walk from my Airbnb. Ordered a breakfast burrito, which was covered with sauce. Unfortunately, the burrito tasted pretty bland. I had to drench it with Cholula just to get some flavor. In addition, the scrambled eggs inside were a bit overcooked so it tasted pretty dry. I love this place because they make solid food in general. You can't go wrong with anything you get here...whether it be breakfast or lunch. I keep it simple and always get scrambled eggs with bacon, potatoes, and a side order of fruit along with a short stack of pancakes. I don't leave the place without eating everything on my plate . I also love getting the freshly squeezed orange juice here. The waitresses here are very sweet and accommodating. The place is tiny but there is hardly ever a wait, which is great especially for us people who get angry and impatient when we are hungry lol. Downside to the Breakfast House is that is closes at 3pm. If you are one of those people who like late breakfasts, then you might have some trouble getting here in time, like myself. But, I guess that's not really a huge problem for most people. Overall, this is one of my favorite breakfast places in Chicago that serves solid food! read more

Overall, I'm swinging between 3.5 to 4 stars. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. They are byob and have fresh squeezed oj or grapefruit juice, which is a major plus! I ordered the chilaquiles that everyone is raving about.... it was good, but not the best I've had....nor did it really live up to all the hype on Yelp, unfortunately. I like how there were a variety of ingredients in it, but I thought the eggs were a bit too "eggy" and the flavors were too subtle (became one big mush after awhile). I'd love to see more zing come through the beans, corn, guac, chorizo (which I barely tasted). My husband got the chorizo hash, which was also highly rated on yelp... the potatoes were NOT crispy at all! Just boiled :( Perhaps next time we will specify for a super crispy sear. Pancakes were ok, not the best but not the worst. They serve it with store-bought jam and butter packets, along with the standard syrup. If in the neighborhood again, we may stop by, but I don't think we'd drive exclusively to eat here, IMO. read more

Sometimes you don't want to deal with the River North brunch, 1-hour wait, song and dance. I was meeting some friends at a brewery nearby and decided to stop in to Breakfast House on a Saturday. My husband and I were able to grab a couple of seats at the bar right away, and it seems like it wouldn't have been a problem to grab a table if we had wanted to. The server took our order quickly. I got the chilaquiles and he got the eggs benedict. My chilaquiles were everything I could ever dream of. The chips seemed homemade and most retained a crunch even under the layers of amazing cheese and sauces. I hate when I get chilaquiles and there's just boring chunks of scrambled egg in them. Not here--the eggs disappeared into everything else and it was just a delicious cohesive dish. The crumbled chorizo and guac on top was perfect. My husband really enjoyed his eggs benedict, it's his favorite breakfast and we thought it'd be a good benchmark to try for our first time here, and it didn't disappoint. We also tried a corn cake since it seemed interesting. This was also great and came with a nice spicy sauce. We had such a nice experience here, the staff is friendly and quick and the food is flawless, and CHEAP! We kept eyeing the fried chicken and waffles and the blueberry pancakes that kept coming out. What a cute little hidden gem! I would've never known about this place had I not randomly come across it on yelp. After seeing the high ratings I knew I had to try it. I came here for Saturday brunch and was a bit nervous there would be a long wait based on other reviews. But luckily even though it was packed and we came during prime time, the wait for 2 people was only about 10 minutes. Based on other reviewers' and our waiter's recommendation, we decided to get the Chilaquiles ($10.95) and the French toast ($10). This combo was perfect to get both sweet and savory. Both of these dishes were great! I loved the combination of ingredients in the Chilaquiles (tortilla chips, scrambled eggs, beans, chorizo, cheese, and guacamole - I mean what more can you ask for?!). The French was also very good - it was topped with blueberries and strawberries with a side of Nutella and caramel. Overall we loved brunch here and I would definitely come back. Also doesn't hurt that prices are very reasonable. Service was ok - they seemed to have forgotten about us at times but the place is busy so not a big deal. As you can tell I am loyal to my places. I order or eat here three times a week. Update: Don't call here and get in house delivery. Use grubhub or Uber eats. Ok, not fair, in house delivery is cheaper for you and the business. Just ask for the younger delivery guy. He's nice. This week the older man with a mustache delivered my food. It was late. I asked if they were busy. Tuesday must be? It was Cold. He doesn't have a hot bag. He was short with me. Didn't say thank you. Rude. And I tipped $5 or $6. Food is great. Delivery is not. And in this climate I am getting a lot of delivered food. I also think management really doesn't care. They trust a substandard service with a quality product. Once it leaves the place it's in the hands of the delivery service. Listen up: people are noticing. This is an extension of you. God dammit, I'll still get food here forever. They accommodated my bacon instead of ham, which was awesome! It all tasted great, and the tiny cubed breakfast potatoes on the side were perfectly seasoned and crispy. I only would have preferred less cheese (which, if you know me, means there was a hell of a lot because normally the more cheese the merrier in my book!). The cheese was cooled down to a more rubbery texture by the time it got to me and really dominated the sandwich in not a great way. However, the croissant was buttery and flakey and the eggs were scrambled just right. Also got a short stack of pancakes--the flavor of vanilla with a touch of sweetness was perfect. The fluffiness was like a cloud too! Bang for the buck: 5/5 The plate was enormous and less than $10! Half the plate was potatoes and the sandwich took up the other half. Additionally the short stack was two plate-sized pancakes for $5, which I thought was a steal! Recommend?: Yes. This place is also BYOB, which is a nice perk. Tips: You can add yourself to the waitlist ahead of time in Yelp so that when you arrive, you don't have to wait long at all. Lots of lunch options on offer as well. Easy to find parking right outside on Grand. Overall, a great spot to hit on a weekend morning. I'm always attracted to places with unique breakfast options. Sometimes they fail and disappoint, but this was not one of those times. First of all, the place is BYOB, so we combined our Champagne and their OJ/Cranberry juice for our own bottomless Mimosa special. (yeah!!) Service was fantastic. I opted for the Corn Meal cakes and subbed bacon for the ham and they were delicious. Another diner had the Chicken and Waffles and they probably were the best dish there if that's your thing. The chicken was crispy as hell and the waffles didn't have the sog factor I've seen elsewhere. Another diner had the Chilaquiles and reported it to be darn excellent as well so no complaints. Place is small so be prepared for a wait unless you have reservations (and even then you may still wait during prime hours as we did with our group of 8). I would give it 5 but not thrilled with the ambiance in the place, but if you want great service and food and don't care, you must check this place out. read more

I went here with a friend for brunch after it was recommended and was so glad I did! This is a cute neighborhood place with great food. The Breakfast House is literally a house that was converted into a restaurant. It has a nice ambiance with white table clothes and windows. I got lucky when I arrived because we did not have reservations but there was space open at the bar. I ordered the recommended Supreme Chorizo Hash. My friend ordered one of the omelets. Both were generous size. The pricing is fair for the food and quality you get. The hash was delicious, very well done. It came with either toast or pancakes on the side, I opted for the toast. I also had the drip coffee, they have intellegencia coffee which I was absolutely okay with. The service was great too. Maybe it was because I was sitting at the bar and the bartender was constantly in front of me. Next time I'd like to make reservations and do table seating to try that out. This place is known for its Mexican twists on breakfast favorites, but it should really be known for pancakes. But I guess the biggest surprise was they give you real maple syrup for your pancakes. I had to apologize to my boyfriend!! After telling him I really wanted brunch and suggested we go to Yolk, he takes me here instead. I was a bit disappointed, and ask why he didn't just take me to the place I asked. He said this place is way better. "But it doesn't have as many reviews as Yolk!" I exclaimed! During the short wait, we asked a couple if they have been and they said they loved it! So that helped to reassure me. After waiting outside in light rain for about 15 minutes, we were seated. I looked around at everyone's plates, most people had the chillaquilles they are known for and pancakes. After much deliberation my bf decided on the chicken and waffles and I decided on the French toast with a side of chorizo scrambled in the eggs. I was BLOWN AWAY. I haven't had good French toast sense trying batters and berries. This French toast is just as amazing. My boyfriend's vanilla waffles and chicken were perfect. The chicken was seasoned, fresh, hot and crispy. I could not have been more happy with my meal! I apologized to my boyfriend for not trusting him to make the best choice (I'm not even from Chicago). We found this by accident and we talked about it all day. We were visiting Chicago and wanted a comfortable sit down place to eat. Service was fast, breakfast was amazing. Obviously made with great care. I had the Paris Omelette, my husband had eggs perfectly cooked with bacon and potatoes, my oldest had the croissant egg and cheese and my youngest had the best pancakes I've ever tasted. We left happy and full. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and has ample seating. Obviously a neighborhood favorite. There is also outside seating for those nice Chicago days.
