I can only judge them on their banana bread. I visited them during the Off Market event in Summit Park. The gentleman running the booth was very informative and I enjoyed our conversation as he spoke in detail about the products. I only purchased their banana bread and wow, that was excellent quality. The loaf was not dry, no nuts, no chunky bits of banana. Just a nice soft loaf. If I see them again, I'll definitely buy more of just the banana bread. Sadly, Breadsmith at Hyde Park Square is no longer the decent neighborhood bakery they once were. They have gone "Corporate". They ship the majority of their products out to other retail stores, and let the walk-in customer "choose" from whatever is left over, which, even at 8 am, is so spare, it isn't worth your trip. Of course, this is because they shipped most of their stuff out at 7am or earlier. You can always "call ahead" and try to get your favorite item held for you, but even that is "hit or miss". I recall past delights of getting up early and going in and seeing the beautiful full shelves of desert breads, pastries and artisanal breads. Not any more. read more

I'm seriously in love with this place. The bread is always FANTASTIC, affordable, and exciting! They introduce new breads relatively frequently and none have disappointed me so far. Last week I discovered they have PIE bread now. PIE BREAD!! The strawberry pie bread blew my mind. My usual favorites are the country buttertop and the rosemary multigrain (wednesdays only I believe). I just can't say enough good things! A few months ago I was at The Echo and had delicious multi grain rosemary toast. Our favorite waitress told us it came from Breadsmith. I came searching for that bread. It is only available on Wednesday, I was there on Monday. I came back the next Wednesday. I was overwhelmed by the different types of bread they offered. He always seems like he is in a ridiculous hurry and has better things to do, and any time we try to interact with him and we are met with shortness at best and downright rudeness at worst. Stumbled upon this bakery when I drove through Hyde Park and I am so glad I stopped by. At 3pm in the afternoon, the smell of fresh baked goods was so inviting. They had many off the shelf items to choose from. We tasted their pretzel bread roll and cinnamon claw. The pretzel bun was light and yet had the nice salty pretzel exterior and the cinnamon claw was also so fresh and the cinnamon sugar exterior had the perfect amount of sweetness. If you are looking for a good variety of artisanal bread, stop by here. You can't beat the consistency and the quality, with NO additives or preservatives!! Plus, taking a look at that amazing imported Italian oven is quite impressive and also pretty cool to watch the bakers in action. Also don't forget about the sweets, which are just as important to get while making a visit. Especially the scones, dessert breads and the pie breads are quickly addictive. I have tried multiple types of breads and my favorites are the sourdough, for sure, and the sauerkraut rye worked great for a reuben. Can't wait to try the Rosemary Garlic Ciabatta for some sandwich ideas, as well as the Raisin Cinnamon Walnut for some breakfast toast or even using it for a bread pudding, yum! The other great thing is if you are not looking for a whole loaf they have many choices of rolls of majority if not all of their breads they baked off that day. There is no seating room, but there is a little open room off to the side were you can just stand and watch the bakers at work. You can also get a cup of coffee, which is especially good on colds days like today. I was walking through Hyde Park square, when I noticed a bread store. How have I never seen this place before?? It's hidden right behind Lululemon, off of the square about a half block. Of course, you know me, I had to stop to check it out! They had samples of a few of their breads out to try, and they were very yummy. The people working there were helpful and friendly as well. I was looking at their options, and spotted the garlic cobblestone bread, and I knew I had to have it. It's like a garlic parmesan pull apart bread. I heated it up in the oven that night for dinner at 325 for like 15 minutes, and it was just phenomenal. I should have gotten two! I also got a few of their breakfast pastries, including the almond croissant. The breakfast pastries were good, but not as great as the garlic cobblestone. For the cobblestone and two pastries, I paid $10. That's kind of pricey, so I don't think I'll be back here every week for bread, but this is definitely a stop if you are having guests over or want something special. FYI, this is a chain bread maker, so it's not local, but they make everything fresh here in Cincy, so I'm ok with it. I'll be back! read more

Superb breads and pastries, albeit it is a bit unpredictable what you will find there on a given day, especially later in the day I have never had *anything* here that wasn't at least very good, and most things I have had have been flat out excellent, whether it is a savory bread item or a sweet pastry, scone, or croissant. Really, really good. They usually have 1-2 different samples out on the counter, usually a bread with some butter plus some dessert/sweets type item, so you can try before you buy One thing I noticed on todays visit that I hadn't before - they have bagged pizza dough, ready to roll out and top as you please. You can find this right by the entrance They have their own parking lot (a BIG plus for this area in particular), a few tables inside, and service is friendly and accommodating. Prices are fairly reasonable for the quality involved. I think they get overlooked a bit because they are on a side street just off Hyde Park Square - out of sight, out of mind. Breadsmith is a great bakery tucked away in the middle of Hyde Park. The bakery is locally owned and staffed with attentive friendly employees. The store itself serves a vast amount of different baked goods in addition to jams and coffee. The bakery offers a ton of great treats my favorite of which is the croissant. This comes in three varieties: chocolate, almond, or plain. I am also a huge fan of the cranberry oatmeal walnut cookies which are a must try for any oatmeal raisin lover. The sweets aren't the only thing Breadsmith has to offer. Their sliced bread is also delicious. Try the sourdough for a low carb alternative to bread or one of the more exotic options such as the potato cheddar chive which pairs eloquently with a homemade egg salad. They also take orders ahead of time for large groups are parties so make sure to give them a call if you know you'll be needing a large order. I also enjoy shopping here because unlike some other bakeries in town they actually DONATE all of their unused bread to various charities each night. Give them a try. A couple of months ago a new artisan bread baker opened in Hyde Park Square, Breadsmith. This is really close to the spot where Blue Oven operates during the summer months, attracting large crowds as part of the Hyde Park Farmers Market. The demand is certainly there for a brick and mortar shop to be successful and with a great product I think it will. Each loaf from Breadsmith is made from scratch daily using only the finest ingredients and then hearth baked. Any bread that does not sell that day is then donated to local food banks and soup kitchens. Bread is available in loaves and rolls, which are a good way to sample a variety of flavors. The first bread I tried was the rosemary garlic ciabatta, and I was in love immediately. I also sampled a very good sourdough as well as honey wheat. The staff at Breadsmith took the time to profile each of the breads available that day and make suggestions along the way. I also learned that pizza dough, hamburger and hot dog buns, as well as a variety of sweets are all available. Daily breads like whole wheat, rustic italian, and french peasant range from $3.95 to $5.25 per loaf. The bread is made without preservatives and should stay fresh for a few days or it can be frozen. I've been working with Ward on making a large batch of cinnamon rolls for an event I'm having this winter, and he has been more than prompt as far as returning phone calls and emails, he has a pleasant disposition, not once have I felt like I was putting them out, the prices are very reasonable, not to mention they have a delicious product! It has been a pleasure working with the Breadsmith and I would recommend them to anyone and everyone!! My son and I dropped in here on a whim. I'm glad we did. The baker was incredibly nice and attentive. The store is very cute with a clean, open feeling allowing you to see back into the baking kitchen. We came late in the day so there were not many large loafs to choose from. That was ok though since we were looking for a sweet treat. My son had a cookie and I had a blueberry scone. Both were very tasty and a great value. The scone was huge! The staff steered me towards a sturdy rosemary ciabatta to accompany my pinto bean hummus at a party. They were so friendly and easy to chat with. They conveniently have premade pizza dough in their fridge - white or wheat. It's extremely delicious and easy to use at home at a reasonable price. One ball ($2.95) is a pound and makes a 12-14 inch pizza. All you need to do is let it come to room temperature, stretch it out, add toppings, and bake for 15-25 minutes. Definitely get this instead of the ones in grocery stores! When I went, they only had white but you could call them to check beforehand. read more

We walked here yesterday to check the place out. The person working there was very friendly and gave us samples of any bread that we requested. We tasted the raisin cinnamon walnut and it was delicious. We left with a loaf and had a few pieces this morning for breakfast. I put raspberry jam on one of my pieces and butter on the other. It was incredible. I could have eaten the whole loaf! Glad to have this shop so close by! We also got a cup of coffee and they have the local Seven Hills coffee which was very smooth. The scent greets you when you are a block away and they often have a punny sign outdoors to greet you. We only but bread here; our diverse household prefers sourdough ( hearty and tasty), whole wheat seeded (brown, hearty and especially good topped with cheese), and the girls prefer a light sandwich bread like country butter top. There is a weekly menu so we go several times a week and weekends they have specialty dessert breads. We prefer the BonBonnerie for pastries but the breads and friendly service here are not to get beat. read more
